I went to Gene Langan Volkswagon in Glastonbury for routine 50,000 check-up on my 2020 Tiguan and for an overall check of everything before a trip to Maine. I had an 8:00am appointment and I was early. One of the service guys was outside and let me know before I walked all the way over to the door that the door was still locked and they would be sure to let me know when the showroom door was open. Just before 8:00am, Troy opened the door and motioned to me to come on in. Troy greeted me and took me straightaway. He greeted me by name, since he saw me in the parking lot and saw my 8:00am appointment. Troy checked my service record and explained what they would be doing today and asked if there was anything else I needed. My car was taken for service quickly and returned in a timely manner. After getting service at Gene Langan, they send a video to you in your email of the underside of your car and the service technician shows all the things they check - all 4 tires for wear, brakes, rotors, boots, etc. It's fascinating, and I really appreciate it. They also give you a little report on your car of what's good (green), what will need service in the future (yellow) and what needs immediate attention (red). Had a terrible experience with Dave the salesperson. I would not recommend this spot to anyone. I had gone there to look for a car that I had wanted, I then put a 500$ hold on the vehicle to take it out of the lot. Because the process of getting the credit checked was taking a lil bit longer than expected, the salesperson started to make small comments and have a attitude which made me ask for a refund and go somewhere else to look for a Volkswagen. Tldr: I got my car fixed at Firestone for $10 for which Gene Langan wanted to charge me $700+ Looks like anytime I need service for my VW I will need to go out of state. After a horrible experience with the VW Dealer in Vernon, on a off hand trip in NJ I went to a VW dealer there. My cat would shake at highway speeds. They diagnosed the issue as a bent rim and out of balance tires. They balances my tires and asked me to change the rim at a future date. The shaking was visibly better. Fast forward two months, I go to Gene Langan VW service to get new rims. Get new rims, excited and when I leave the dealership I realize my car is shaking worse with the new rims. So I go back and they tell me that they have "mistakenly" put on another bent rim. Wow! So I wait two more weeks they get new rims shipped in. Put on the new rims and tell me that everything is good to go. I leave the dealership again, the shaking is still bad. So I go back a third time. They keep my car for a few days, only to tell me that the balance is great, but the tires are "old." Not worn, but old. And I will need to get all 4 new tires and alignment ($700+ cost). I was skeptical and knew that it was the balance. So I went to Firestone today and asked them to see what was wrong with the car. They within 30miniyes said that my tires were out of balance. They rebalanced by tires and now the shaking is totally gone. All in all after getting a promotional discount, I spent $10 at the Firestone. This has to be either CT or VW. Because never in my life, have I found that a Firestone can service my car better than the dealership. It's either astronomical incompetence or just straight up lies that they made up to upsell me the tires. Either way shame on you! read more

The only good thing about this is the inside. We came back to buy a car and the salesman was being nice at first, but when things weren't going his way cause we wanted a lower price he quickly changed and it became very hostile so we walked away. Luckily, we also worked with Mitchell Volkswagen because they have such a large variety of available cars and went back to them to test drive. We were able to get the price we wanted with the superior customer service that is expected from a dealership where a customer is making such a large investment. They lost an easy sale. Been customer for years-purchased car and service. Today brought my car in for routine service. Found something wrong with the car outside annual maintenance that needed replacement. I explained that it was critical that I get the car back within a certain time. Over the course of 5-6 hours (already 2 hours past the promised return time), I repeatedly checked on the status and the response was always that it was just about done. Staff made me feel uncomfortable each time I checked as if I was inconveniencing them. Of course, there was never an apology to me for the delay and inconvenience. I am so disappointed in the dishonesty of repair time, which also created job-related financial implications given the inaccurate time estimates. I feel that I was taken advantage of and cannot even imagine the lack of experience of the mechanic who worked on my car...hope no issues when I finally get the car...still waiting... read more

Very disappointed in the service department. Went in for an oil change and for them to diagnose a noise thought to be a power steering related. The service writer came and told me that the power steering hose needs to be replaced. The hose was in-stock and that I would need to wait two hours for the work to be completed. 1/2 hour later my car was done and I was charged for two hours labor. When I called, I was told that it was a "flat rate that protected the customer". Somehow I don't see it that way and feel taken advantage of.... may be time to find another service provider. read more

A year ago my engine started misfiring. My local mechanic fixed the misfire which was spark plugs and coil. He said bring it to Volkswagon if it happens again. It did, I brought it to Langan and they cleared the codes and said it was fine. The light came on again several months later. I called Langan and explained who I was and the problem the car was having. My daughter dropped it off, the overnight envelopes was a blank envelope. They had my car for 2 days but I heard nothing. I called and they said that I didn't tell them the problem and they didn't have my number. (I have been a customer for 5 years.) They had it a total of 5 days. They insisted it was the aftermarket spark plugs which I did not think it was. I said look at everything else. They charged me $1100.00 and the misfire light came back on on the way home. I brought it back, they "ramped" the codes up to Volkswagon and then said there is sludge on the engine and it would cost $1300.00 and it might not fix it. If they were not sure the first time they should ramped it up to the high ups at Volkswagen and I wouldn't have spent $1100.00 fixing what was not the problem. They said it probably wasn't worth fixing because they couldn't guarantee it wouldn't need a new engine. There was no offer to assist in fixing the right problem. Jimmie, the manager, was less than helpful. The only thing we agreed on was he had a Honda like me and they last a long time!!! I'm extremely disappointed with Langan VW. I purchased my new VW from Langan VW in Vernon CT in May. The initial experience was a good one. Now it is July and when I'm ready to go back for my first service I found out that the dealership was sold! No one ever said or mentioned that to me at the time I bought the car! Within a week I had an issue with the car so I went back to have it corrected. The service department told me it would be 2 weeks before they could look at it. I was furious and now I get redirected to their other VW dealership in Glastonbury CT. The problem was rectified. Today I showed up for my first oil change. $139.00!!!!! Outrageous!!!! I recently dealt with Troy in Service who was extremely difficult to deal with and unwilling to provide any assistance in clarifying a complicated warranty situation. As a service adviser I felt he should have been willing to listen and assist in resolving the issue. Eventually he hung up on me. Prior to this they had been very helpful, but if they have a person like this in a customer service position I would not be comfortable in using their service department. When I called back to work out the issue he became rude, surly, and extremely argumentative. The essence of service is listening and providing what customers need and they have failed in every aspect of this requirement. I've contacted the owner to see if this issue can be resolved and will edit this review if I receive a good response. Received a call from Gene Langan who asked that I consider revising the review as I did not actually pay for any service. He promised to speak with the Service adviser and explain that hanging up on a customer is not OK. Since they did respond to my comments I raised the review to a pair of stars. I got the diagnosis code P0299, underboost of the turbocharger. On 06/13/2018, I went to the gene Langan VW. The front desk, Marlon S George, was in charge. It only took about half hour (only half hour!), and the whole turbocharger needed to be replaced. As my car is out of warranty, the dealer quoted a price, the labor 6.5 hours and $780, and part $1346.04. Some people on the vw forum shared their experience to call the vw of America for the relief. So I told the dealer I would try to contact with the vw of American and asked if they knew the phone number. They gave me the wrong number(The correct one should be 1800-822-8987). I told them I would come back to fix my car after some phone calls with vw of America. They charged me the diagnosis fee, but they promised me the diagnosis fee would be as my repair fee after I came back to fix my car. On 06/14/2018 and 06/15/2018, after I called the vw of America, they would cover the part, but I have to pay the labor. To know the average labor hours in Hartford area, I called several dealers. No place will take more than 6.5 hours, and Crowley VW even only takes 5 hours to finish this job. More importantly, the diagnosis fee could be refunded if I went to the gene VW as they promised me. On 06/19/2018, I dropped off my car so that they could have the whole day of Wednesday to replace the turbocharger. I arrived around 5pm and met with Marlon S George, and explained to him I was coming back to fix my car, and showed him the diagnosis fee charged several days ago. And he told me he would take care of that. The manager, Chris, came out and said the labor should be 7.3 hours because they gave the estimation to VW of America when the regional manager of VW of America contacted with them to confirm that VW of American would cover the turbocharger and I needed to pay the labor. How could the two times of quotes be different at the same dealer? The only explanation is they tried their hard to rip me off and charge me more. After some argument, they agreed with the 6.5 hours labor. But when I asked for the loaner, they would not give the loaner. The simple reason Marlon S George told me was that my car was not bought there.What discrimination the dear has! Anyway, this was not a big deal for me since my friend could give me a ride. The next day when I was picking up may car around 5:50pm because of wait for the ride of my friend. I found the amount was not correct. they did not deduct the diagnosis fee from the amount unlike what they promised me before. I argued with Marlon S George. He told me they should have charged me 7.3 hours but right now only 6.5 hours. What the fuck! We had the agreement of 6.5 hours before the repair. This guy had very bad attitude and even threw the paper documents of my car. What the shit! That was your problem, not the customer. He asked to talk this with service manager, but the manager was not there at that moment (left work before working hour). Because my home is far from the dealer and I do not want to give many troubles to my friend to give me the ride again, I paid the amount and picked up my car. Today, 06/21/2018, I called the service manager to discuss this issue. The attitude of the manager was very very bad, and said they should have charged me 7.3 hours labor, the estimation to the VW of America, and asked me to call VW of America. They would not refund the diagnosis fee. The manager rudely hung up my phone even if I was talking. VERY VERY RUDELY! Then I called the customer service of VW of America to clarify the whole thing. The customer service told me the VW of America would only cover the part, turbocharger, and I should discuss the labor with the dealer. 7.3 hours labor is only the estimation given by the dealer. In conclusion, there is nothing to do with VW of America. Overall, Gene Langan Volkswagen always tries their snakiest and dirtiest ways to rip off the customers. Please open your eyes to see the truth!!! If there is a zero star, I will choose it, no doubt!!!! read more

Our experience at Gene Langan VW was one unlike we ever expected. What brought us to Langan VW was the selection of cars that we were looking for in one place (actually in two places when you add the other Langan branch 15 mi. away). The selection was the best we could find through internet searches for cars within 100 miles of NYC, which is where we were coming from. True to what we were looking for, we were impressed with the number of cars, selection and quality condition of the vehicles. What we didn't know nor expect (we did not know this dealer nor read reviews about them) was the level of service, the facility and the experience that awaited us. Bob greeted us and while we knew which car we were interested in already - he didn't know that though - he was not pressuring at all, let us have a look around and even gave us the price list and left us alone to look around on our own. We found the car we came to see and liked it. Bob let us take it for a test drive and was very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. Back at the showroom we discussed and looked at the inventory at their sister showroom. There was a similar car there that forced us to go to have a look. It turned out it wasn't the same trim level so we came back to see Bob. It was 3:30pm on a Saturday and they closed at 5. To make a long story short we were out of there with a car, financing, temporary license and insurance arranged by close. Even though they closed at 5, they still had us go to their car preparation site nearby where Sergio had polished up the car beautifully, and in a museum like setting, vintage VW warehouse setting sat us in the car to teach us all the bells and whistles and how they worked. We finished the day driving back to NYC with our newly acquired CPO Jetta and could not have been more impressed and thrilled with the entire experience and deal. I have to mention that if you plan to come the Gene Langan and negotiate a deal don't bother. They don't negotiate in favor of pricing their cars competitively and provide an overall purchasing experience above all others. And at that they succeeded. I must admit I was expecting, even hoping to negotiate and even voiced my displeasure when I learned their business model prevented this. On the other hand however, the experience, and in the end the deal I still believe we got, was hands down one of the finest car buying experiences I ever thought I would....well, experience! read more

I could not imagine buying a car from this dealership. We live at the apartment complex across from the dealership and have seen time and time again pre-owned cars that are stored up the road from us being beat on. On 8-31-19 we witnessed a pre-owned maroon Jeep Grand Cherokee being driven at a high rate of speed over the speed bumps on the road we share like it was back at the factory proving grounds. Mind you, there are many children in our complex riding bicycles, etc. We noticed the jeep had no license plates and sure enough it pulled right into the lot at Langan and was placed front and center for the unknowing future owner to inherit its abuse. read more

I love this dealership! Their sales, service, and parts departments are all top notch. Whenever I go in for service, everyone in the service department greets me by name, and they're always helpful and honest. If my salesman happens to be around he always comes over to say hello and chit chat for a few minutes. Their parts department is great too. In March 2017, I bought $970.00 worth of tires and rims from Langan VW which they sized for me to be installed on my car for the winter. I went there with the tires and rims on 12/12/17 to have them mounted on my car and much to my surprise, they did not fit. I asked them to change the rims to the correct size and they informed me that if they did that the tires would not fit on the new rims. I asked them to replace the tires I bought with tires that would now fit on the new, different rims. They said that the tire supplier would not take the tires back and neither would they. So I asked what do I do now...they said keep the tires and rims that I had bought from them and never used (and are of no use to me) and buy four new tires and rims, from them now, that will fit for another $900.00. Langan VW did not feel that they had any moral responsibility to exchange the useless tires and rims that I bought from them in good faith for new tires and rims that they now said were properly sized to fit my car. I brought this complaint to VW of America. They assigned it a Customer Care Case number and they contacted Langan VW on my behalf. VW of America informed me that Langan VW refused to change their position. I paid Langan VW of Glastonbury, CT, $970.00 for products they specified for me which I cannot use. Since I specialize in customer experience as my day job, I pay special attention to what other companies do. Something as annoying as a regular car check in has become something to look forward to. Their customer lounge to wait is extremely nice. Great big comfy chairs, free coffee and ice cream (Yeah, that's right, there's a stack of Klondike bars in a mini freezer), a great view of the rows of VWs. The staff is always great to work with. They are knowledgeable and transparent. They will always answer what a piece of equipment does and how it impacts your car's performance AND they don't shy away from providing estimates that are accurate AND they have never pressured me to do any work I didn't want to. I do think their services are a little bit pricier (around $75 for a synthetic oil change when I could probably get it for half the price elsewhere) but I completely trust the staff and their quality. Something new that they do is send video visual inspections. As I was waiting for my car in the lobby, I got a text with a link to a quick 2 minute video where I got to see the quality of my brakes, exhaust pipe, turbo, etc and have the service person describe the condition. That is differentiation at its best. I'm so impressed with this place that Im still sitting here waiting but writing this review. I also like to visit the dentist because I like how my teeth feel afterwards, so you can discount all of this as crazy talk if you want. But if you own a VW and don't service your car here... Had a bad experience test driving a car here. I called about a specific CPO Jetta that I saw on the website, and made an appointment with a salesman to come in the following day. Well, I wound up having extra time that night and went over to test drive it with whatever salesman was working that night and (I'm assuming due to the fact that I'm a 25 year old woman) was not treated like I was being taken seriously. The owner was standing around nearby BSing with a different sales guy and came over to talk to another customer who was older than me and clearly being taken more seriously, but made zero fuss over me whatsoever (not that I care about fuss but you kind of look like you're not taking me seriously when you introduce yourself to one customer but not me). I was turned off by the experience but really wanted the car, so I walked (the salesman didn't even bother getting my number) and called back the next day to talk to the original salesman that I had an appointment with that evening. Let him know the situation from the night before and told him that I was still interested in the car, but it was priced over $1,000 higher than the highest KBB value, so I wanted to see if they would talk about a more fair price (I didn't even ask for a good deal, I would have paid the maximum price in the range on KBB and made that clear). The guy said he needed to talk to someone about the price and that he would call me the next morning. He blew me off and never called, but it's okay because I went and bought a car at the Vernon location and had a much better experience with my salesman Mark, the financing person Ryan, and the guy who is the manager of that location. This place was fantastic. My husband and I bought a car here last weekend. The entire deal was prenegotiated because we were coming from out of state. I sent pics of my trade-in, they sent pics of the car we were buying, and we settled on pricing. I worked with Dennis, and he was fantastic. Very responsive via email and cell, very patient with all of my questions. My husband was dreading actually going to the dealership to sign the paperwork due to experiences buying cars at other dealers, but we were thoroughly wowed. The transaction went beautifully, and they stuck to the trade-in value we had agreed to even when they found a glitch with my car that we had forgotten about. That gesture was hugely appreciated. The dealership itself is a museum to vintage VWs, and it's fun to see them in such gorgeous condition. My only critique would be that whatever chemical they used to clean the car interior is Very strong. Hopefully it will fade quickly, I'm driving with the windows cracked in the meantime. When we went to pick up our car, we were taken to another location with a showroom that had even more vintage beetles and campers, and there was even an indoor tiki bar! High pressure sales; 'have to buy it now or you will lose it'; circling like vultures the minute you step in the door or on the lot; upselling when you have already indicated that you know what you want; and a general feeling that once you are finished, they are on to the next suck... I mean person. If anything turns me off of making a purchase, especially one like a car, it is the aforementioned. Walking through the door, we knew what we were looking at and I indicated that I had already been working, albeit through email, with a specific salesperson. I wanted to be sure that the appropriate person received the credit for the effort and was willing to hold out. In the interest of time, Dan Arsenault was assigned and began the journey down the path of looking and testing an almost new vehicle. We went over all the basics with assurance that "Junior" would follow up with answering any question. We were on our way with a test drive inclusive of a stop at the prep shop / museum just down the street to meet "Junior" as well as allow me to ogle and avoid drooling on some gorgeous classics. A short amount of time later, the deal was seal, financing was complete and off I went. Dan could not have made this a more pleasurable experience. It has to say something that we traveled more than 60 miles to Gene Langan VW in Glastonbury to trade in my old VW for a new (to me) one. It also has to say something about the dealership family that a decade ago I bought that VW I traded in from Langan VW in Meriden, CT, also driving an hour to go there. This dealership is fantastic. Warm, friendly, no-hassle, no pressure. Easy to do business with. And the price was below what I expected to pay anyway, so what's not to love? Fantastic. I purchased a slightly used volkswagen from them recently and was treated with respect. Gene Jr. was my salesman, and although new at sales, he did a great job. He wasn't pushy, but rather professional and interested in my needs. The paperwork was quick and easy. My car was detailed by Sergio who did a great job in getting my car ready for me and explaining all the features. My only issue with this dealership is their reluctance to negotiate a deal. I was insulted and embarrassed on their trade in offer and they refused to budge on their selling price, even though they were priced the highest in the region. Had I not traveled 130 miles and the car wasn't as immaculate as it was, I would have easily walked out the door. In summary, if you're okay with their advertised prices, then I strongly recommend this dealership. Expect a quality car, a friendly sales staff, a pleasant buying experience, but do not expect to get a great deal here as they have a no haggle policy. read more

This was my first car buying experience at a dealership, and I was quite nervous about pushy and dishonest salesman (which I'd witnessed going with friends previously). My experience at Langan VW, however, was pretty much perfect. I worked with Dennis Erk, who provided accurate information about the availability of the car I was interested in and gave a fair and accurate price quote. This made it well worth the hour-long drive to get to this dealership. He responded promptly to emails and was very friendly and helpful the day of my purchase. The CPO car they sold me was in great shape and has been driving beautifully for the last several days since I made the purchase. Sergio at the service center was also very friendly, patient, and knowledgeable, guiding me through their showroom and all of the special features of my new Jetta. And to top it off, I was given a cup of beer and a gift at the end of my visit! Highly recommend purchasing a car at Langan, even if you have to travel for it. read more
