Took our 2025 Lincoln Nautilus for a safety recall in June. Soon afterwards had trouble with the blue cruise and other navigation related items not functioning properly. Took it back in August. Told by Glenn that would take 24-48 hours to fix. I figured just a software update. We were visiting Lubbock staying in an Airbnb. Took the vehicle on Wednesday. Thursday morning I watched on my Lincoln app the location of vehicle. It showed the vehicle was on for a period of time and ultimately driven around Lubbock and back to garage. It showed parked outside the garage area. I called that afternoon and Glenn told me the car was disassembled and not driveable. I advised him I needed the vehicle that day as we were leaving Friday. I said put it back together and we would come get it. He said he would call me back. About thirty minutes later I saw the vehicle being driven from the parking lot into the garage. Glenn called and said they just got it checked out and the vehicle was ready. You don't disassemble a vehicle and park it in the parking lot. If I hadn't called they would have held it until Friday. I know it was ready that morning after the test drive. Very dishonest and shady business. Would never go back. read more

Not surprised the last FOUR reviews for this place are all 1-Star. I had the distinct pleasure (cue sarcasm) of visiting with "Ashley the Car Guy". If there was ever the embodiment of a dollars first, people second-salesman: it's this guy. Inquired bout a vehicle online. He responded online via call/text. My wife & I setup a time to go see the vehicle. We drove it. Liked it. We asked for what we believed was a minimally discounted price. (Remember, customers DO NOT KNOW what price a DEALER pays for cars on their lot unless they SHARE that information.) Immediately had a flippant attitude thinking we're asking for $5k or $6k discount -- So we said thanks for trying. Called back a couple of days later -- 100% prepared to pay the original price -- and on the phone, VERBATIM, says to a CUSTOMER, BEFORE asking what the call was for, BEFORE knowing what was on our mind, BEFORE asking a single question... "Oh yea I remember you, you're the one that wanted like a $6500 discount" -- to which I responded, "woah chill out chill out..." To which he responded "well, just being honest" in the most middle school teenage boy tone I've ever heard. (My background is middle school public education ) Imagine using the guise of "Just being honest" to throw verbal tantrums when you don't get your way the first time. Lord forbid a customer try and NEGOTIATE better deals for themselves. Can't have that. Gene Messer Ford of Lubbock is quite possibly the worst place to take your car! Don't go to them! I took my car in for routine maintenance; perfectly safe car. When it was returned to me, it was in worse shape than when I dropped it off, completely unsafe and not drivable. My service advisor told me that the brakes were installed backwards. Took it back to them to "fix" again. Now, I have my car back and is in even WORSE shape now. They are crooked and don't actually "repair" your car, they break it!!! They're next to impossible to reach and good luck getting a call back or honest work. Avoid them at all cost! read more

Absolutely horrible dealership. Purchased a used vehicle from them to which they agreed to fix the hail damage on the vehicle. All were fixed except one big dent in the middle of the hood, that was worse after they tried to PDR it (paintless dent repair). Had to argue with the sales manager about fixing it as they promised. One of his replies was "what do you expect, perfect?" among other demeaning statements. Ended up having to take it back and show him, at which point he agreed to have it fixed by the body shop. Was told it would take 1 day. When I dropped it off to the body shop they said it would take 2 days. On the 2nd day I tried calling multiple times (at least 4 calls) to see if it was ready, could not get an answer or be able to speak to anyone in the body shop, so drove to the dealership to check in person. It was almost ready when I arrived (4:45pm), but had a lot of ripple in the hood where the previous dent was. Was so fed up with them I just took the car as is so I didnt have to deal with them again. Certainly no where near perfect. I will NEVER do business with Gene Messer again. This is just a partial list of the pain of dealing with them, other things like showing the car to us with it dirty (which hid a lot of scratches), no answers or no return calls, missing legal documents in our paper work, etc was just part of this horrible buying experience. read more

Bought a car on December 15,2024. As of today, Mar 13, 2025, I still don't license plates & registration. Multiple calls to the dealership , all with the same results. Either the person who handles it is out or they'll ask & call back, but they never do. Awful experience. My mom and I went to this dealership to get her a new car. Some people were helpful and nice, but, Luis Gutierrez, our finance guy was very shady and unprofessional. My mom had very clear financial guidelines about how much she was willing to pay a month and the length of the term. They went back and forth until we settled on the monthly payments, but he quickly brushed over the length of the term, which was almost a year longer than agreed. Later when we canceled the deal, everyone was understanding except for Luis, who then asked if our reasoning was "really a good reason". After this I cleaned out my moms car while she waited for paperwork he said needed to be signed, we waited for almost another hour just to find out that there was no paperwork to sign and he just wanted us to waste our time. This whole experience lasted for 7 hours. This is our second bad experience here, would not recommend coming to this dealership. read more

If you're looking to purchase a car Jeremiah is awesome. But when it comes to service after the sale look else where. Bought three vehicles from Jeremiah and all was great. Had leveling kits installed on all three and taken to Gene Messer for alignments. 2 of the 3 cost $80 and on the final one was told it would cost $500. When I asked questions I was told by service manager that they needed more time to do work and that certain alignment angles were not included in their alignment. But, this service manager also agreed that the angles he was referencing ( caster and Camber angle) are in fact part of an alignment but not covered under their alignment unless extra charges are paid. He then continued to try and explain that myself, with numerous years of mechanical experience and many vehicle builds under my belt that I was unaware of how hard alignments were. I explained that I was well aware of the work involved and that on the other two vehicles the charges of $420 were not added. Needless to say before it was all over the service manager told me to pick up my vehicle and take it to a competing ford dealership in Lubbock for service. He also insisted that I couldn't have the work performed anywhere any cheaper. I called two local shops one being the above defended competitor and they could complete the work next day for $120. The second shop I called completed the same job on the same day in less than 2 hours for a grand total of $125. Needless to say the service department and management is not only condescending to customers but also by far the worst part of the dealership. My advice for what it's worth stay far away and shop elsewhere. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. When I picked up my truck I show the GM at Ford the damages they caused. His words were "well, your truck isnt new". These are new damages that they caused. I have the bedliner cut up with 6 big holes were the bolts are now, the custom symbol was melted and no longer on the passenger door (on the floor board inside), my seal at bottom of windshield is really messed up and pieces are picked away, there is tape residue in several places on my paint, the dashmat was smashed up on the floor under my back seat heavy blanet (they were dry cleaned- and both then shrank. No longer fit-to small), my $600 hitch was moved from under the backseat to the bed of the truck (thankful I heard it moving about before it was taken), my truck went in for hail damage and there is still alot of hail damages, I have called many times left messages and always told the Manager or Body Shop Manager will return my call- this hasnt happened yet.- Since Feb. 3, 2024. I was told it would take 22 days - it still isnt done and it started Feb. 3, 2024. I picked it up May 24, 2024. I was never told it would be worked on at an off site shop that was not a Gene Messer company. My truck was drove around town without me knowing about it. I had to email the est. 2 times and drive a paper copy over 200 miles to the shop 3 times because they kept loosing it. My file had seemed to be always missed placed. This is just some of what I have been and still working with. The insurance paid well over $15,000 and I have over $2000 of damages they caused me. With still hail damages they claimed were fixed and never done. Be very careful. My mistake and truck troubles can be your warning. read more

I wrote of previously good experiences with smaller items like tire rotations and oil changes here but if I could give this dealership half a star I could. Two MAJOR issues with this dealership, and the amount of miscommunication or lack of communication at all is mind blowing. My car has been in the shop(and currently is) for two oil leaks that were quickly diagnosed on 6/17. I called about a week after diagnosis and they said they had all of the parts, etc. and they said there were two cars in front of me. Fast forward to an almost a month later(7/10), I call because I have been contacted less and less about the status of my vehicle and there's one car in front of me. I call back a little later and ask when I can expect my car back, and they said it could be another week or two, and that there are now TWO cars ahead of me. I have a feeling it's because my car is warranty work, and pays less but to see this happening is appalling. That was issue number 1. Issue number 2 was equally as ridiculous. I had purchased fender flares through fords website with ford pass points, and paid extra for the option that included installation at the dealership. I called and told them that if it could not be done the same day, that I would book another time. They ensured me it could be done same day. I booked an appointment for later that week and dropped it off. After hours of waiting i decided to call, and they said it would be there another FEW DAYS. I repeated to them about me needing the car that same day and what was the point of me making an appointment. They then told me I would owe them MORE MONEY for installation I ALREADY PAID FOR! After about an hour of arguing and going from person to person at the dealership it was done by the end of the day. What's crazy about this one is that they had the receipt that said installation was included and already paid for. I have bought more than 10 cars at Gene Messer Ford and had never had a problem. Fair prices and good staff. My last purchase in June 2025 was the worst car buying experience I had ever encountered. Bought an F150 at what I thought was a very good price. The vehicle was a Blue Certified Vehicle with 3 month 4,000 mile warranty. The vehicle had been in my possesion all of 5 days when engine warning light came on. Took it in and was told 4 cylinders were misfiring and needed new spark plugs, ignition coils, and catalytic converter. Price to repair was $2800.00 and not covered by warranty since they were wear items. Well what did your touted 139 inspection actually inspect? AHigh school auto tech intern could have easily detected these defects. When I informed them I wanted to exercise my option under the Blue Certified Warranty I was told the warranty was void due to a odometer mileage discrepancy. When I bought the vehicle is was listed as having 144,000 miles but actually only had 114,000 miles. While signing these purchase documents I pointed this discrepancy to the financial representative but instead of actually verifying the mileage was asked if it was a problem. Since the discrepancy benefited me I said no. So how convenient to void a warranty due to Gene Messer Ford's mistake and make the customer pay the price. Instead of being treated as a loyal customer I was treated as customer you can dump a flawed vehicle on. If you miss the good old days of the past when car dealerships used every dirty trick to sell vehicles and service after the sale was just a fantasy along with Unicorns and Sasquatch, then Gene Messer Ford if the place you're looking for. I will never buy another car from any Gene Messer dealership ever again. read more

Slow service department. I dropped my truck off for basic recalls and called them 3 days later and they told me it wouldn't even be started for another two days. They dont have a team that works weekends so that's like 1.5-2 weeks without a car. Who can do that?! It's like this every time I go in. And if you read the other reviews, this is typical for them. Horrible service department. 2018 Ford Fusion 2020 Electrical issue with gear shifter no power to car but the shifter had a loud buzzing noise, Service dept could not find the problem I had to take a video and email them for them to realize what the problem was. 57525 miles while driving the gear shifter was getting hot of course they had no clue of course unable to diagnose 59540 miles overhauled transmission no codes ever occurred showing any problems transmission was dropped and found to be leaking 61150 miles remanufactured transmission no codes ever occurred showing any problems transmission was dropped and found to be leaking 64452 miles having issues with the transmission service department claimed to drive my car 30 miles and he found no issues Mileage In-64452 Mileage Out-64452 wow I thought it was drove for 30 miles 71114 miles more transmission problems especially after driving around town in the heat Service Department transmission needs to be replaced per glenn the transmission has an internal problem if they had drop the transmission at 64452 I can guarantee it is Probably leaking all these problem and no codes have showed anything wrong with my car I guess they have X-ray vision which is exactly why they did not drop the tranny cause they know that they would be responsible at that time. Now they are claiming that the warranty started the first time they overhauled the tranny and not the second time why cause I didn't pay anything to help with the repairs. Why would I the overhaul only lasted 1200 miles before it had to be remanufactured. Remanufactured tranny only lasted for 6500 miles but now they want me to come up with thousands of dollars why cause they lied and have tried to play me like I am stupid and have hid the true problem long enough to claim it's out of warranty now so they will not pay nothing. Horrible dishonest people who should be ashamed of their selves. Do not trust this dealership it has always been an internal issue but now i have to fight to get what I am deserved on getting my car repaired. I have all the paperwork to back up what I have said in this review along with an email with the video I had to send to them for the first part to replaced that was the gear shifter for the transmission. of course they could not diagnose the problem Just like they did not drive my car the 30 miles on the 3rd go around of taking the car in for tranny issues. Ashley actually surprised me. Had been trying to sell my truck, and couldn't get what I needed out of it, but he was very nice and helpful. Well, got it sold, and was looking a week later for a much more inexpensive vehicle. I had been given the run-around at other dealerships in the area, and as I drove into your parking lot to see something that I had noticed online, Ashley called me to follow up. He came out, and we looked at a couple of vehicles. To my surprise, he remembered me and what we had talked about a week earlier. We found the right vehicle and negotiated a fair price. There are probably 10 people.sitting in the service garage all playing solitaire or on their phones, I scheduled an appointment for 9:30am to have the oil changed, tires rotated and to have someone check the shocks because of a wobble any time I hit uneven road. At 5pm I called and they were like oh yea were almost done but we didn't look into the wobble issue we just didn't have time. Maybe this dealership should invest in more mechanics and less service reps. Also I had scheduled my other vehicle to have the oil changed tires rotated and an alignment done I even called the day before to make sure there wasn't any issue with it being a dually, they assured me everything was good. We used Gene Messer's website to find the brand with several cars under $10,000.00 so we could buy a first car for my son. The salesman informed us that the specific car we were most interested in was in the shop and in such bad shape that it would be auctioned. In fact, of the 5 vehicles listed on their website, only one was available - a jeep liberty that is baby diarrhea yellow-green. When we said we weren't interested in that, the salesman basically shrugged and said they didn't have anything for us. This dealership has found a new way to play bait-and-switch, putting vehicles on their website that they have no intention of selling. Bought a couple of cars here. Sadly, the body shop/service sept is an absolute disaster. Still do not have our car back after 5 weeks of excuses. Was gonna buy a truck or SUV from them next month. Glad we had this experience, now we know NOT to give them any more business. My kids bought a car from them too. Never gonna happen again. Never return calls, have no concept as servicing the customer. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND TAKING YOUR CAR THERE. I honestly have nothing good to say about them at this point, so I will leave it there. Hopefully we will get our car back in one piece. But they really missed an opportunity to retain a good customer. Scratch that. They had now had my car for 8 weeks. I bought a Ford Explorer from Gene Messer Volkswagen on May 28, 2024. Today is July 6, 2024, I haven't received my car registration and name plate. I called the dealer and was sent to the salesman Luis Esparza. I left a voicemail to him. I also sent him a message on his cell number. He totally ignored me. I called back the next day, and questioned him directly. He said he will get back to me. Later of the day, he texted me back that the plate is in and he was busy with customer and will get back to me. I'm still waiting for him. He's a lousy salesman. After I had a test drive, I said I wanted to buy the car, and asked him show me how this car works. He said we will do that after we're done with paperwork. So we proceed and finish my purchase. Because I drove myself to the dealer to buy the car, so he had to help to drop the car off at my house. I asked for demonstration of how the car work at that time. He said he had to go, and I had his number, and I can call him at any time. Mainly, he only care of selling a car, and does not care of customer services. What a terrible customer service that I did not expect from this car dealer. I demanded to speak to the Sale Manager. I was informed that he will call me when he's available. I'm still waiting to hear from the salesman and the Sale Manager at Gene Messer Volkswagen and wondered when I will have my car registration and plate. I've attempted service at this facility twice and both times has been poor experience. It's clear I will need to find independent shop for future work as this one I suspect is only seeking after high-cost factory warranty work. Reading reviews on Yelp, over 100 have been removed and they still have poor rating. Yelp fans, this review this to confirm the other experiences out there are no different than mine. Specifically I had appointment for Labor Day morning (their suggestion not mine) and agreed on $99 special brake service for front pads. This was bait and switch once arrived - refused to repair while waiting - said it would take at minimum all day or had to remain onsite for 2-3 days - for a basic brake pad replacement! Suggested the special price was PER WHEEL. Im sure plenty of kids and wives fall for this scam. Pat in service needs to be avoided at all costs. Cmon guys...it's not hard to do better. read more

I would give negative stars if possible. My dad worked in the car sales business for 40 years, so I know exactly what a good dealership looks like. My purchase was fine, but the other reviews here are right when they say the service department is criminally incompetent. I scheduled a freaking oil change online a couple of days in advance. When I arrived they said it would be about 1.5-2 hours to change the oil on the CAR THEY SOLD ME because they don't have Buick "parts" in stock. My car takes 5w-30 oil and the basic filter that all of the lower tier 2018 Encore's do. Literally everyone should have those two items in stock at any dealership or service station in the US. The worst part is they suggested I go to the Chevy location in town, because they have Buick/GM "parts" in stock, and when I got there that location said it would be at least an hour. It's an oil change people, you're not trying to bottle unicorn farts. A special needs doorknob could successfully change the oil in less than two hours, but that's apparently way too much to ask of these criminally incompetent losers. read more

I purchased a "certified" vehicle less than a week ago and the check engine light has been on for the last 5 days. A diagnostic check came back with the code P0171 and also showed that someone had been overriding the code so it wouldn't show up again for a while. I'm getting the run around with the service department and apparently the general manager's number cannot be given to customers. I literally flew to Lubbock from the military base I was just stationed at to AVOID buying a crappy vehicle and the dealerships who take advantage of soldiers, just to purchase the vehicle I thought was safe to buy because it's certified just to keep being told "someone will call you back" or "you can leave a message" or "call this person." Sounds like y'all are purposely wasting time trying to get me to drive over the 1,000 miles or go past the 14 day buy back guarantee. Pretty pissed if you can't tell. I'll adjust my reviews if you all actually correct the situation. But neither of the individuals listed in your response have called me so we'll see. read more
