Wow! I thought in today's economy that business relied upon providing superior customer service. Guess that model does not apply here. Why is does not apply, because the manufacturers feed consumers their number for warranty service. Here is the story: Our new Rheem water heater went out. Called Rheem, they gave me GI's number as the warranty service provider. Called GI, was told same day appointment was $150.00, agreed and was given a 1-5PM window. 6 rolled around they still no call or no show. When I called them at 6:10, they were closed. I got transferred to Eddie, who claims to be the supervisor. Eddie gave NO apology for missing the appointment and no reason why they did not call. Told him I had no hot water and a house of six with small children, he did not seem to care, as he only offered to have someone come next day. Once I told him it was not acceptable, he hung-up on me. Upon my call back, he again offered tomorrow appt. Not knowing my options, I agreed. The next morning, I called, said they canceled the appointment. Appointment was reinstated but would not give a guarantee it would be today. I called Rheem, they gave me another service provider (Norm Co.) who was courteous and made same day appointment for half the price. I called to cancel my GI appointment, asked for Eddie's supervisor, said one was not available, then they hing up on me. DO NOT USE THEM. IF YOUR MANUFACTURER GIVES THEM AS WARRANTY SERVICE, DEMAND ANOTHER. Even Rheem said they had a more reputable service provider and gave me Norm Co. read more

I recommend avoiding this company. Below is my experience and opinions: I had a horrible experience with this company and their dirty, lazy and unethical technician. They were sent to my business by the manufacturer to service the warranty on a water heater. The over weight technician came in, just what you don't want to see he was dumpy, unkept with a bad attitude, and when he was told that the water heater was in the attic he acted inconvenienced and the look on his face told me he didn't want to do the work. The attic is a full standing 8 foot space. He went up into the attic without his tools and then grumbled about everything. I told him that if he took the part with him he could have already installed it and been done. But he chose to climb down and then put on a big show that he had to call "Jose". I sat there with him as he wasted time and the first words out of his mouth were false by telling Jose "There is no air up there", nothing about doing the 10 minute part replacement. He was sent up there again to take photos, he huffed and puffed up the few ladder steps, completely out of shape then he wiggled his over sized corpse down. Again the part could have been repaired. He sent the photos in and again complained about the work to Jose...surprise they told him he didn't have to do the warranty repair. This order was given by a guy called EDDIE. The alleged "Supervisor". I spoke to EDDIE and he proceeded to over step his bounds and make false and inaccurate statements about the job and job site. His job was just to repair the water heater under warranty. Then EDDIE asked me to pay him the $85.00 for the service call! I told him this was arranged with you by the manufacturer not me and you refused to do the work because your technician doesn't want to do it. When i asked the technician whether he even had brought the correct part with him he admitted he did not. All this appears to be some scam to bill for a service call, and manufacture some excuse why the work can't be done. Finally, the fat useless technician asked me to sign his paperwork! (SO THEY COULD BILL THE MANUFACTURER) I told him he refused to do the warranty repair so I am not signing. Then he told me I wasted his time. I informed him that he wasted my time, he chose not to honor the warranty and respect the manufacturer and that I had waited for them to come out and to fool around with their scam shenanigans. I asked him to just give me the part so I could do it myself and he again refused. In my opinion this company should stick to showing their butt crack while they clean out drains...they certainly failed to service a simple warranty job. Their actions in my opinion were completely incompetent and unethical. read more

It started leaking and was told by Rheem that they would replace the water heater but I needed to find someone to install it. After calling several places with no luck, I called Josh from General Installation. He was so kind and helpful and went out of his way to contact another plumbing company to get my heater replaced. We had a issue with our Rheem water heater the manufacturer sent the work order to General Installation with the defect part sent to us via fed ex over night; however an installer called from General Installation only to say the gas value failed because it most likely got wet from the rain ok well rain or shine what difference does it make ?? your job is to replace the gas value. who has control over th rain? yes it's I get it's a defect from Rheem Manufacturer however tell Rheem that not the customer or refuse the work order from the beginning then I don't have to wait for an other installation company to do the job days later. I get the fear they may not get paid from the manufacturer however communicate with the customer as to why (not being paid) don't just say it's because of the rain second call back the customer back with status or again bottom line refuse the work order from the beginning. show professionalism ! read more

I was actually referred to this place via another water heater service company that could not accommodate my needs. I was initially put off by previous reviewers but after calling everyone else I could find I ended up using General Installation for my water heater. I have a very difficult water heater issue on a model that not many people have and to top it all off it was a long holiday weekend. I called their number was promptly called back by 24 technician and explained all my issues. Within the hour of calling I got another call from the Tech that would be doing the work was explained that I would have to be charged overtime fee for Sunday/Holiday hour, I didn't care just needed my hot water immediately. Long story short tech came SUNDAY MORNING he had all sorts of relevant parts on his truck and solved all my issues with experience and expedience. The cost was very fair and although OT charge was more, it was just one more line item and not every hour additional. It ended up costing much less than your typical plumber that has a low rate but up-charges you for every little thing. Everything was fixed Sunday in about an hour. Highly recommended! read more

How weird that people have such different experiences. I was referred by another plumbing company (a great one, Economic Plumbing and heating, I gave THEM 5 stars). They figured out that my water heater was still under warranty and sent me to General Installation. General said they couldn't get out here that day (it was already pretty late) but they'd come the following day. The following morning, since I hadn't heard from them, I called and discovered that someone would be here between 1 and 2. At 1:30 Emir arrived. He was so GREAT, explained everything so well, gave us some other tips, fixed it! He called later in the day to make sure we still had hot water (we'd been having intermittent problems). We did. I too was given General Installation Co.'s phone # by the manufacturer of my water heater for warranty service. I'll admit, I was very hesitant to call based on the one review I had read, and in fact, had called back my water heater manufacturer to request an alternate service provider, just in case. Fortunately, my experience with General Installation Co. turned out to be extremely pleasant with no problems whatsoever. I called them as soon as they opened at 7AM. They promptly answered the phone and I was informed I would be called back between 8:30AM and 9:30 AM to confirm my same day appointment time. I was called at 9AM by one of their service technicians for a 1PM to 3PM appt. at my home that same afternoon. He arrived right on time at 1PM, (actually a few minutes early even), was courteous, clean and professional in his work. Ultimately the problem with my water heater ended up being related to my gas line, but he went ahead and replaced the thermostat on my water heater while he was here as he was aware of my particular model of water heater having problems with the original thermostats and indicated it would need replacing soon enough anyway. All in all, I had no problems at all from the initial call to the end of service and would not hesitate to use them again should I have any problems in the future. read more

Recently had an experience with this company and boy let me tell you...nothing but incompetent garbage. It is extremely sad to see a large water heater company like Bradford White recommend these guys to repair a a heater. The technician was unwilling to touch the heater what so ever because he could not see the vent. To my knowledge they have not come out with x-ray glasses yet so common knowledge would tell you the the vent goes straight up from the top of the heater, so instead of spending a whopping 2 minutes to get a 3 foot ladder to peak in the attic he said there was nothing he could do. So a 9 month old heater just gets left unfixed or diagnosed with this company basically saying sorry your out of luck. It's companies like this that gives the plumbing industry such a bad name. Not sure how they can even call themselves plumbers or sleep at night. All I can say is shame on them and shame on Bradford White for not doing any kind of due diligence when they choose a company to represent them. read more

Called General Installation Company at 7am to request a same day service call. Showers are not meant to be ice cold. Was told we would receive a call before 10 am to schedule the repair man's arrival. Jose called at 9:30am and informed us he would be here in aprox 30 min. He arrived on time despite dealing with the 405 during rush hour, which is a task in it itself. Very professional and very polite. Within one and a half hour our water heater was fixed. If we ever have any further issues with our water heater we will most definitely call General Installation and we would most definitely recommend them, inparticular Jose, to anyone. read more

These guys get a middle-grade rating, as a sort of averaging of some very good things and some not-so-good things. My 3-yr.-old hot water heater quit working on Friday evening. Perfect timing, right?! That meant either no warm showers for 3 days, or paying overtime rates for weekend service. We chose the former. (For that price we can go shower at the YMCA for a couple of days!) First the good: (1) The technician, Noel, (who, I got the impression, is an independent contractor, not an employee) seemed quite knowledgeable and competent, and was friendly and courteous. He arrived equipped with the necessary parts and was in & out in about 20 min. (Of course, being an engineer, I had given them clear & accurate info re: the nature & likely cause of the problem when I made the appointment, which the technician confirmed.) (2) The water heater was under warranty (parts only); they didn't expect me to pay for parts & file for reimbursement from the manufacturer (as is allowed in the warranty), but instead charged me only for labor* and will take care of the warranty claim themselves. Now the not-so-good: Like many other reviewers here, it took a lot of time & effort (6 phone calls, 4 placed by me, two by them) to finally nail down when the tech. would arrive. In my case, that turned out to be a manageable inconvenience. (Work-to-home in 15 min. and a boss who's very tolerant & accommodating.) If you'll be significantly inconvenienced and/or stressed by this sort of uncertainty, either be prepared for it or call someone else. (That said, be reminded that: "the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence", and you may find yourself "jumping out of the frying pan & into the fire".) * They quoted me a flat rate in advance, regardless of what parts or labor would be needed. This seemed a little strange, and I knew the quoted charge ($183) would seem brutally high on an hourly basis if it turned out to be a quick repair (which it was, in the end). On the plus side it motivates them to get the job done quickly and limits the customer's exposure should the problem be more extensive or hard to resolve (assuming they don't try to wiggle out of their stated "flat rate" policy, or just give up & go home, in such cases.) Note: I considered 4 stars, but figured my issue was so simple to resolve that I can't be sure they'd provide 4-star service in more difficult situations. read more

I was given the number to three plumbers by my warranty company and General Installation was one of them. Because of the reviews I chose the other two and after two days still did not have hot water. One company was rated number 1 but had a waiting list that would mean that I would go another 4 days with no hot water. The second one was unreachable and I kept leaving messages. Finally I called General Installation and was so happy at their quick response. Someone was to my house and the water heater was fixed within 1 hour of me calling. I will definitely use them again. Our water heater was broken on Saturday and Sunday morning, we contacted General Installation. The technician told us they would come and fix the water heater on Tuesday and would call us Tuesday morning to let us know the time they would come. Tuesday morning, the technician called us and told us they have to reschedule us to Wednesday as there was an emergency case they need deal with first. The technician also said he would call again Wednesday morning between 9 and 9:30 to let us know the time. I understand that as emergency could happen. So Wednesday, I took a day off and waited for them to call and come. No one call at all in the morning, so I called them. The technician didn't return my call until 12pm and informed me they are overbooked today and no one would be available. They need to reschedule us to Thursday. Again? Are you kidding me? Can you imagine no hot water in this cold weather for 5 days? If you could call us early in the morning, I don't have to take a day off from my busy schedule. If you told me you are short of staffing on Sunday, I could have contacted another company and have water heater fixed already on Monday or Tuesday. How could you keep promising your customers and keep breaking them? Very disappointed with the arrangement. Shouldn't contact this company at the very beginning! read more

LEFT ME HANGING! Called at 6am to get a hot water heater serviced at my rental property. They took my info and assured me a technician would be calling me to schedule. Had not heard anything by 11:00am, therefore, called General Installation. They messed up the paperwork and said they could not get out to the property until the next day. Was not willing to make adjustments in their schedule although it was their careless error. What a HORRIBLE company! I called at 8 am this morning to make an appointment and was told they would call back shortly, within an hour, to let me know when a technician would be here. Two hours later I had still heard nothing. I called them and was told someone would be here between 1-4 pm and I would receive a call when they were on their way. At 3:45 I called AGAIN, was kept on hold for a very long time and then told that they wouldn't be able to come today after all. I wish I had seen these other reviews before I ever tried them. Used their services two times... first time was ok. Second time they charged me the service $85 because a water heater was not acting weird. At arrival he did not see a problem...left and I came back to inspect the water heater and found the problem again. So, i called them told them the error message and sent someone again but charged me another $85 for the trip. I got the estimate and told me that they will charge another service fee $85 on top of the estimated price again... I get it that they charge me one time...to identify the problem and get the estimate. It took them two times and did not identify the error on the water heater until I told them what was the issue. I was hesitant when rheem told me this company would be servicing my water heater. Juan cleared up my hesitation by answering all my questions on the phone and in person. When I went to recommend General Installation to a friend, I was surprised to see they were rated at only two stars on Yelp. Over the years, General Installation has installed three 100-gallon 199,000 BTU/hour heaters for me. Installing those heaters involved complex orchestrations of service personnel to make it possible to get the tanks in and out of tight fitting laundry rooms with solar heating components. At other times, I've needed them to service the electronics of a unit damaged by a water leak. In every case, they were totally cooperative in working out compatible schedules. I can't speak to the complaints voiced by others, but as one who has had work done by many plumbing contractors, General Installation is still my go-to place for replacement of commercial water heaters. read more

Our American Standard water heater stopped working due to broken pilot assembly. I called around 9am and they came to repair my water heater around 5:00pm. Since they are certified repair guy for American Standard, they had the all the parts they needed in their truck. Cost of repair with parts and labor was $237.30. kind of expensive, but we got our hot water in 30min. read more

They were sent by the warranty company to fix my water heater. The repair went fine. The guy who runs the company is pretty tightly wound, though. If he calls and you don't answer or call him right back, he keeps calling and calling even if it's outside of regular business hours, eventually leaving a message like he's a debt collector or jealous lover. It's off-putting and odd, but at least the work by the tech is fine. I can't speak to their prices because I wasn't the one paying them. read more

We were in need of a plumber and Whirlpool recommended General. I called and they could not make the service call until the next day. I wasn't happy but we would wait for the service call for the next day. An hour after my call we received a call from the service guy and he said he could come out in about an hour! I had them install a 100 gallon water heater at my apartment complex in June of 2017. After the installation, the city inspector could not sign off on the final inspection as there were several issues. They had not wrapped the pipes, they left a large hole in the wall and installed the tank without sealing the hole, and no fire dept. sign on the door per code. Needless to say we just got final inspection Feb. 2018, 8 months later. They often do not return phone calls and reaching the company is difficult. They set dates to come out to correct the problem and postponed week after week after week. We were told we would be high priority to get it done and then nothing. Finally in Jan. 2018 they came and removed the water heater to fix the holes behind and reinstalled it. The service tech said they would call the inspector and schedule final appt. however three weeks later I called the company to find out what happened and they stated we were to call. The inspector came out and stated there was still no sign on the door to the heater which was one of the original issues. I called Donnie and he stated my manager told him that someone took the sign. This was not true. My manager was never informed about a sign until the inspector told her we needed one; she he never discussed a sign with Donnie. I called Donnie to tell him how dissatisfied we are with the company and that we will not be using their services anymore. I also told him that I will go buy the sign and post it myself. read more

I was extremely pleased with the service I received from General Installation Company, especially when calling late morning, the Friday before the Fourth of July weekend. They came out the same day in the mid-afternoon and the technician knew exactly what was wrong with the water heater. He was very friendly and knowlegeable on A.O. Smith water heaters because they are trained and authorized to work on them. He even showed me step by step how to turn the pilot light on and ignite the water heater, and then asked me to show him. I highly recommend this company and will use them in the future. read more

We had an apartment building without hot water for several days. We had a couple of different plumbing companies come out to check but no one was able to repair the 1 1/2 year old unit. We were told different parts needed to be replaced (not under warranty) and one company actually replaced a part but it didn't work.. After several panic phone calls, we were directed to General Installation. Jose is our hero. He was able to figure out a small metal piece was somehow too close to the ignitor and just needed to be bent back. Once that was done, instant hot water. Jose is very knowledgeable, patient, and amazing to work with. We will definitely use General Installation for all our water heater needs from now on. Thank you again, Jose!! read more

Amir, the tech, is the best and Victoria has been great on the phone. I think General Installation did the original install of our two 100 gallon hot water tanks back in 1997 or so. I was not at my building at that time. I had their name and number so I called them a couple of years ago when one of the tanks was not working properly. Amir came out and got it working. Forward to this last week when the tank was leaking and I called Amir back out. He explained that it was time for a new tank, couldn't stop the leak anymore, it is a 15 year old unit now. He said he would have to shut all the water off for 1 hour to replace two shut off valves, after that he could turn the cold back on and probably the other hot water tank. This was real important to me because there are 27 units, including a coffee shop, who need the water to always be on. I wasn't sure if I believed the water would be back on within the hour but I set the appointment for a few days later. Amir showed up exactly on time, turned all the water off at 10am as he said, and turned it all back on 44 minutes later, can you tell I was clocking him. He spent a good part of the day doing the install, showed me how the new unit was all working well, making the water nice and hot, and he even sweep and made the room look nice when he was done. The total bill was exactly what he quoted, not cheap, but less than another quote I got, and I know they will stand behind their work if I have any problems. I'll use them again if I have the need.
