THANK YOU YVGENY!! This guy is absolutely THE best. I had a very odd buzzing coming from a GFCI outlet. I'd tried everything I could think of (including changing the outlet itself, and various other things) and just couldn't figure it out. As an architect, I probably know only just enough to be dangerous, but there was no logical solution. I called Yvgeny on Saturday (it wasn't till later that he told me he usually doesn't work on Saturdays.). He spent at least an hour on the phone, sending texts, videos, etc back and forth. The forensics were tricky, and he even said he'd never heard that kind of buzzing from a GFCI. But he stepped me through it, and finally we identified AND FIXED the problem. When a plumber knows what he is doing and friendly, he could save your day! My house was leaking from upstairs to downstairs so badly. And I was out of town, my in laws were there, but they could not find the leaking origin. I searched Yelp and found so many good reviews about Yevgeny and General SF. When I called around 5:00pm, which was the closing time, I was wondering if he can come and help. To my surprise, Yevgeny answered my call for help immediately and arrived at my house in 15 mins!!!! Yevgeny is so professional and so knowledgable, and identified the leaking spot right away. You can tell that he is so knowledgable that he went through the whole process with my in laws and pointed out all the safety concerns. By only touching the dry wall, he knew where already got moisted and need to be replaced. He gave us so many good advices and did not charge us for them. I am blown away with General SF! I honestly wish that I could give more stars. I called Yevgeny after we hired a different electrician for an emergency situation over the weekend. I started getting a weird feeling about our situation but since I have no background in electrical work, I decided to call other local electricians to see what they thought. Yevgeny answered my call immediately and after explaining my situation, he confirmed that we had been swindled out of a great deal of money. We talked for about 15 minutes and then he asked if he might be able to stop by and look at the solution that had been created for us. Not 20 minutes later, he was outside (socially distant and with a mask, which was very appreciated!) and immediately recognized our issue. He took pictures of what the other electrician had done and then drew diagrams on top of the pictures of what should have been done. He was so calm and explained things thoroughly. He went through each of the parts that were used, looked up the current prices of the materials, and gave me an estimate on the high end of what he expected the costs were. The entire time he reiterated that he wasn't trying to take over the job and that he just wanted to counsel me in a tough situation. After he left, he emailed me a great deal of references so that I could better understand our issue. He also sent me the contract that he uses for his clients so that I could see what we should have been given. Yevgeny called me to talk through everything and ultimately was largely responsible for our very positive outcome. Over the course of several days, we spoke on the phone for probably between 1-2 hours. He never asked for any compensation and he continued to tell me that he just wanted to help us get out of a bad situation and restore our faith in the profession. I am so so grateful for Yevgeny and for General SF. The customer service, attention to detail, and, most importantly, the honesty and the true concern he shows for people is unparalleled. I don't usually write reviews but when one needs a good plumber, it's incredibly helpful to have the opinions of others. My experience was exceptional so I'm willing to share it. I have experience doing my own plumbing (replacing faucets, valves, etc...) but I know my limits and knew this job would require a professional. I say this to convey that while I am not a plumber, I do have a bit of knowledge and having worked with contractors a lot, I also have a pretty good idea if someone is trying to sell me something I don't need. I have a 1930's house in the Sunset District that had a 3' vertical crack in a section of the 4" cast iron drain pipe in the basement. The crack was leaking so I wanted it replaced. This was all that I thought that I needed. But I also knew that the bathtub and kitchen sink were draining slowly. My brother thought they just needed snaking or the traps cleaned out so we didn't think this would be related to the work Yevgeny would do in replacing the cracked pipe. I called Yevgeny on short notice and when he arrived, he looked at how all of the drain piping was laid out (it's all exposed in the basement) and asked if everything is draining OK in the bathroom above. Interesting, given that I hadn't told him about the slow bath drain. I told him about the bath drain and he told me that he asked because the drain pipes from the bathroom connect to a horizontal section which then takes a sharp 90 degree turn to drain into the 4" cast iron drain pipe that he would be replacing. He explained that the sharp 90 degree turn was a point of constriction that was begging for trouble, if not now, in the future. I don't have to be a plumber to understand this; it was a reasonable concern. Yevgeny merely said he would have done it differently, where it would be a 90 degree turn but more gradual so that it wasn't a point of constriction. Something like making a 90 degree turn over 8" instead of over 2". Current plumbing standards require the design of systems that allow for improved drainage. Plumbing standards in the 30's weren't as efficient. Yevgeny proposed replacing the 90 degree section as a part of his work replacing the 4" cast iron pipe because it would prevent future problems and he was working on that area so it could easily be made a part of that work. I'm a woman and my brother worries that I will be taken advantage of. But what Yevgeny proposed was reasonable and made sense and I did not get the feeling that he was trying to up-sell me so I agreed. I am extremely grateful that I did. I don't know how to attach photos in Yelp but if I did, I would. The horizontal pipe that fed into the 90 degree bend was almost completely clogged with material; including lots of metal from pipe interiors. The 4" cast iron pipe was also similarly clogged. I am indebted to Yevgeny for having the experience to recognize a potential problem, the persistence in explaining why it was a potential problem and the wisdom to recognize that due to my suspicious nature toward contractors, I would only arrive at my decision on my own. Yevgeny did excellent, efficient work, he was meticulous, up to code and insistent on cleaning up everything when the work was done. He also pointed out other areas that I should keep an eye on - not toward gaining more work for himself but taking time to explain what I should be aware of. My kitchen sink that was draining slowly that we thought was the trap? Yevgeny checked it, the trap was fine. The kitchen has a separate drain system and snaking from under the sink did not help. Yevgeny had to take apart the drain piping in the basement only to find the same problem that the other drain system had; pipes almost completely clogged with rusted metal from the inside of the pipes. He cleaned out the pipes by digging out the clog and snaking and then reassembled everything. This section had previously been serviced by another contractor who should have replaced this rotting pipe section when they worked on it but hadn't. I once had a tile contractor who was excellent. Early on in the job, he decided he wanted to use a special flexible material over cracks that had formed in the foundation due to earthquakes. The material was expensive and I questioned why it was needed. Years later the tile has held up beautifully and I've stayed in touch with the tile contractor. He said it held up due to the expensive material he put over the cracks. I asked him why he persisted when I was reluctant to approve the material. He told me, "Whenever I do a job, I always think back to past jobs with the pride of knowing that I did my best. If I don't do it right or I take shortcuts, I know I will always think back to, 'that one job' that I know I didn't do right. And that job will always weigh heavily on my mind. I don't want to be haunted by, 'that one job'". Yevgeny is that kind of person. Call him. You're welcome. read more

I called Yevgeny on a Sunday afternoon after I discovered some unholy sewage bubbling up from my garage floor. He was on another job, and promised to call me back within the hour after he finished his current job. He called back three different times to let me know where he was and when he anticipated he would show up. He later let me know he tried to find someone else to do the job, but when he couldn't find anyone else to do it, decided to do it himself because I told him that I called him first. You really don't hear that kind of honesty nowadays. After arriving at around 3 pm (extra points for showing up at 3 pm on Sunday, by the way - who else does that??) he quickly diagnosed the problem and started to get to work. Honestly, I wasn't sure he knew what he was doing when he first started, since progress was somewhat slow and he used some techniques I had never seen any other plumber use. However once he started to explain what he was trying to do and then pulled out some of the strangest stuff you could imagine - and some things he said he has never seen before - you could tell he really knew what he was doing. Other plumbers would have tried to blast the clog out of there, and if they failed, would have told you they needed to tear up the sidewalk and charge you x-thousand dollars to fix the problem. However, after nearly two hours at persevering, he got rid of the clog and freed the pipes from all that unthinkable ungodliness. After getting rid of the clog, he even cleaned up the garage after I insisted I would take care of it. Yevgeny's rates are completely reasonable. Furthermore, he truly cares about getting the job done the right way, and makes sure he does so. I can truly appreciate that, and I would absolutely recommend Yevgeny again. read more

Finally an honest and caring contractor! Everyone had bad experience with contractors and Yevgeny is the exception! I was originally thinking to build an outdoor kitchen with sink, Yevgeny came over and carefully examined everything, then told me that I could not do it because the waste water has no where to go, the yard drain system only takes clean water. I really appreciated his honesty and it save me tens of thousands dollars to build something that I could not use later. Since Yevgeny is such an honest guy, I consulted him of my balcony flooring job, Yevgeny did estimation carefully and also told me what the pros and cons of doing it. Again it turns out that I would be better off if I do not go with the approach I had on my mind before. Then we went further to discuss what options I have which is better and cheap. He recommended me to use epoxy which is cheap and look nice. For almost two hours consultancy, it is all FREE! I could not appreciate Yevgeny more for being honest to me and providing me the best solution for my problem. Disclaimer: no work was completed this review is in regard to the complete lack of response and Yevgeny leading me to believe he would work on my remodel and then disappearing after I went to the planning dept, wasted an entire day, and paid for the permits. Basically I called generalSF for a quote for a basic kitchen remodel: install kitchen cabinets, some drywall, prep the the surface for counter top install, a little light plumbing for a new fridge and relocating a gas line. He seemed very interested and helpful at first and I felt really good about our first conversation. He quoted me about $6k for the whole job which i thought was not bad. He insisted the first step was to go pull permits for the project and once I had done that to call him back to schedule the work to commence. I don't know if there is a language barrier or what but I went the NEXT day paid the $600 and pulled the permits with the city. When I called Yevgeny back he insisted that he was completely on board and to submit everything through his website so he would have a record of the address and the job etc. Which I did 3 times. I called to make sure he received it, he said he would look and that he was very busy. No response. I called again, again I was assured that he would take the job and that he would call me back. A week I wasted waiting around for this guy, even turned down a reputable contractor that was a bit higher but could start ASAP, not to mention that I didn't even need to pull the permit the contractor is supposed to. Really frustrated that he wasted my time and lead me on. I know we didn't have a contract but I am just really sick of all these flaky contractors out there. Ended up going with Yiu Wong Construction and they have been awesome so far. read more

This is a review from someone who has never posted a Yelp review in the past but felt compelled to post a review for Yevgeny Dublinsky of GeneralSF. My three unit apartment building's hot water heater stopped working all of a sudden two month ago. It was a Sunday afternoon, and my tenant was complaining of not be able to take shower. I checked Yelp to see if there was anyone who could come and take a look on a Sunday, but unfortunately, most services are closed on weekend. Fortunately, I found GeneralSF, and Yevgeny Dulinsky who answered my call immediately. He told me that he happened to be driving in the neighborhood on his way back from a cancelled appointment (his customer cancelled at the last minute). Lucky for me, he showed up within 10 minutes! He checked the boiler and found that it was not a mechanical failure, but it was just not working because the switch was flipped to "vacation" mode instead of "Hot" mode (thus in dormant). He discovered this error right away, but he still took the time to check my hot water heather carefully to make sure the boiler would work properly when he left, and he didn't charge me a dime for his time and service! Sometimes repairmen might not be able to show up on time due to traffic or a prior job took longer than planned, but I really appreciated the fact that he was available right away on a Sunday, and I am glad that I found a decent service guy for when I need a repair job next time. In a prior review, Yevgeny made a partial fix to a problem with my water heater. A couple years later and the water heater finally went kaput (it was towards the end of its life). The timing was as bad as it could be, as my wife and I were in the hospital delivering our first baby, so would be coming back to a house with no hot water. Called Yevgeny who managed to fit us into his schedule quickly, order a new water heater on rush delivery (since we needed a non-standard model), and install right away. During the install he made some extra improvements we didn't discuss ahead of time, like upgrading several valves and patching some drywall around the heater - all without increasing the cost of the job.
