The plumber that came out was nice and fine, came at exactly the scheduled time and was done with the work quickly. No problems there. But the business operation is very scammy, and "discount" it is not. If I had it to do over again I would have trusted my gut after the first phone call and moved on to try to find a local, independent plumber. I used yelp to find someone to fix a broken garbage disposal, and literally less than a minute after submitting my request I got a yelp message, a text, and a phone call from Discount Plumbers. On the phone was a friendly fellow offering to schedule a free appointment to look at the problem and give me a quote. It didn't take long for me to realize the guy on the phone was AI. That made me realize this was a large, corporate organization, not a local plumber. In spite of my misgivings, and because I didn't want to waste a lot of time, I agreed to the appointment for the next day. As I mentioned, the plumber arrived right on time and was very nice. As I had already determined via my own investigation, he told me the disposal needed to be replaced. He tapped some things into his iPad and came up with a quote of almost $700. I asked him for a breakdown of parts and labor, and he was unable to give that to me, trying to make me feel fine that the amount would cover everything. I asked him what brand disposal he would be using, and I looked it up online to find that it could be purchased for $150 at home depot. I asked him how long he thought the work would take, and he said 2 hours, which I figured meant the labor charge would be around $250/hour. As it became obvious I was skeptical, he offered a 10% discount. Since I didn't want to take the time to find someone else to come out, I just went with it. The work took 30 minutes. I just paid someone $1000/hour to replace a garbage disposal and feel pretty stupid. The icing on the cake was when he showed me a broken O-ring and said he would be giving me a new one for free. My husband went into the crawlspace to look and pipes were leaking under the pressure of a clog somewhere. There was no additional call out charge for it being a Sunday and no charge unless work needed to be done. He also went into the crawlspace to confirm what my husband had seen. Antonio was so personable throughout and very clear in his explanation of what was going on and what work needed to be done to fix everything. They wouldn't leave until they had replaced our lawn and put our deck back together, working in the dark. The technician was nice enough, but my 100 year old plumbing is a bit challenging. Originally called to unclog a short section of drian pipe coming from my clawfoot tub to mainline. Ended up cutting that section out for replacement. While replacing it caused tub supply lines to leak. Scratched up pipe and flange that are decorative to outside of tub. The guy worked rather untidy and did not carry rags to clean up water but used toilet paper to wipe up spills. He left without offering or giving me any receipt. I'm puzzled by the positive ratings for Discount Plumbing Rooter Services, LLC. I had a toilet that wouldn't drain because the line was blocked. Plunging only forced water past the wax ring and into the ceiling below. When I called, the company would not provide even a rough estimate over the phone, stating that a technician needed to inspect the problem first. After using a camera to inspect the line, the technician told me a standard rooter would not work and that the pipe needed to be descaled. The quoted price was $1,888, which was reduced to $1,699 after I questioned it. With a disabled bathroom, water damage, and overnight guests arriving, I felt I had little choice but to proceed. The work took approximately two hours. Based on the final charge of $1,699, that works out to nearly $850 per hour. The descaling process appeared to be little more than an expensive version of a rooter service, making the price especially difficult to justify. I was also charged an additional 3% for using a credit card. What concerns me most is that the invoice described the work as "Descaling Clogged Pipe + Crawlspace Inspection." A crawlspace inspection was never discussed and, to my knowledge, never performed. Based on my experience, the pricing was excessive and the billing was questionable.
