Service was effective, efficient, and customer oriented. We ordered Pulled pork, bison burger, side salad, sweet potato fried, fried okra, & fried pickles. Each dish was flavorful and well prepared. It's a cute little dive bar/brewpub that I want to love. Family operated. Very casual. The food is the issue. Brisket is very tender and moist. It's tasteless unfortunately. Not a whiff of smoke. No flavor on the bark (really there is no bark). BBQ sauce is just so - so. Less flavor than Arby's BBQ sauce which is pretty unfortunate in a BBQ joint. I just moved to the area from Texas a couple weeks ago. Being so new, I'm not really sure what's around here. I stopped here on a whim because it is right next to my house and I had an hour off from work. Now coming from Texas I will tell you my standard for BBQ is unreasonably high. I just ordered a beer and a brisket quesadilla and was impressed. Seating was easy and informal, and my order was taken and delivered VERY fast. I was also impressed with the menu items in general- I can't wait to come back and try the lobster roll. My only wish was that the brisket was a little fattier but I realize it's totally hit or miss depending on what they get delivered. Establishment itself is 5 star for what it is. We stop here once or twice a year coming back from the mountains because it's always a reward after dealing with I-70 traffic. Literally cannot beat the friendly smiling service- we've never had bad service here and they're always extremely attentive, fun, kind and welcoming. We just moved to the area a few days ago and have already been twice. The food is great and the people there are very nice. The first visit was burgers and salads; the burgers were juicy and not greasy at all. Fries were thick cut steak variety and delicious. Second visit (last night) was BBQ. We got the huge sampler platter for just two people with the goal of having some leftovers and will surely be eating the stuff for days. The stars of the show were the ribs and the turkey, which were both juicy and very flavorful. The pork was also good, and I would say the brisket was not as good as the other meats. We were there for lunch on a Sunday with a group of around 25 - babies to adults. Very pleasant outdoor setting with a live band. We were there around noon and you could order from either the brunch or lunch menu. With 25 people we had an incredible variety of choices - everything was delicious. Went with friends who recommended dining here. The menu looked good with lots of options. Ordered the Cod and was surprised to learn that anything else that you wanted to order to go along with the fish was ala carte - so I ordered a baked potato for $3. The waitress (brand new) seemed okay until she messed up my friends order a few times. She brought my two friends their meal but had to wait about another 5 minutes before mine came. The potato wasn't very soft but didn't want to say anything - it came with butter. Before I was done with my meal, the waitress came by and took my friends empty plate and proceeded to ask "you ready for the check?" What about asking ... "can I get you anything else" or "would you care for some dessert?" She brought the receipt and I reviewed the prices. I knew ahead of time what the meals cost, but was quite surprised that the butter that came with my potato, was .25 cents. Really? They charge for an item that goes with the potato? After I paid, she brought only the Merchant's copy and had to request a copy for my records. Her reply was "oh, you can use the original check for your record. She had to have the other waitress show her how to produce one. The food was mediocre at best, the service was awful and the prices are way over-priced. What a complete disappointment!! While waiting for our food noticed the owner walking around - he didn't acknowledge us and didn't seem friendly at all. Food arrived and the brisket was okay and the slaw was very bland. A friend and I went for a hike in Genesee, CO and of course we were starving after. Looked up what was around and this place caught my eye especially since I had a loaded BBQ potato on the brain. What a little out of town gem! As mentioned I wanted a loaded potato which they had however, we're still freshly baking and it would be another hour. Pop went my food dreams but we move forward! Decided to give the prime sandwich with the most thick and juicy aus juice I've ever had. It was a pricy sandwich at 19.99 but when they sat it in front of me, I knew why! Not just slivers of prime rib, an actual thick slice in some freshly made hoagie roll of some sort. Let's just say this little piggy ate the shit out of that sandwich with no apologies! My friend also had a BBQ sandwich of sorts which she said was good, just a little dry. Maybe more BBQ sauce for that sucker? Service was awesome as well. The bar tender noticed immediately we had done a hike and brought water over no questions. Restrooms were clean, a little messy but nothing horrible. When I say this was godly, I mean this was GODLY. Each bite was juicy and explosive in flavor. This was without the BBQ sauce. Once I added it on, we were looking at an amazing combo. This took me by surprise as most BBQ places I try can't nail the juicy brisket down. It ends up being dry in some places and juicy in others. But Genesee puts these places to shame. Juicy all around and a must get when you come! The pulled pork was exceptionally done! Juicy, but dry at times. This did not take away from the flavor it had though. When paired with BBQ sauce, we were looking at an all around juicy pulled pork. Worth the buy if you're not a brisket person yourself! Overall, Genesee puts a lot of the BBQ spots I've been to to shame. They nailed the brisket on the head! The place sits in a cozy area and weekends they have live music. I'm about to petition yelp to make a 6th and 7th star possible because they clearly don't know this place exists based on their limited star availability. This is the best BBQ place I've come across...without a doubt in Colorado, and I am racking my brain trying to think of a place on par with this anywhere I've been in my endless travels. Let's start with my #1 factor in BBQ...the sauce options. These guys offer a standard BBQ sauce on the table, but you better ask for the spicy and the gold that they don't sell but could be rich off of. The second most impressive factor is their burnt ends. Oh my God, when you see and bite into these burnt ends, it will forever set your standard for burnt ends. The perfect combination of flavor and tenderness...I seek out burnt ends above all else in the BBQ world, and these are the best that I have ever encountered. 3rd and hardly final but for the purposes of this review final...the service barely beats out the delicious waffle fries. I'm pretty sure the bartender who still gave a crap about the tables was named Chase...he and Sage were shining stars amongst a solar system full of attentive, polite, and fast employees here. I spoke to the gentleman who I believe runs this place, and let him know it doesn't get better than this place from where I am sitting. To think I wound up here as a result of my #1 foodstalking (pizza) leading me to an all too familiar bout of closed disappointment, makes this experience that much more magical. If a review like mine existed for this place yesterday, I would've planned my whole adventure around this place. I'm already doing that now for future trips, and I highly suggest you make sure your visit to this neck of the woods includes this practically life changing BBQ experience. read more

This place is a dumpster fire. If you're contemplating a visit, don't go! Save yourself the misery. The wait staff is rude. We just left because we asked the waiter a question about the wings and he rolled his eyes and walked off. I'm not the type of person to just leave, but he was totally rude, so we left. We've eaten there before and have learned that if you order BBQ, it will be fatty and gross. They don't have good BBQ despite being called a BBQ restaurant. Sorry, but it's true.
