Norton is the exemplary mechanic and owner of this place. He embodies honesty, integrity, kindness and excellence. He is one of a limited number of automotive repair shops you can go to and have the peace and confidence that you'll be given honest information, repairs and pricing. Norton will NOT tell you to replace something that doesn't need to be replaced, or claim work was done unless he DID IT. Sad many mechanics will cut corners by doing things like that but they do and that's why Norton is a diamond in the rough. After talking to him a handful of times while he performed repairs, I found out he actually LOVES to help people far more than squeeze money out of them. I actually had to INSIST he accept a tip when he took a quick look at my car & set my mind at ease Rather than feeling anxious and trying to figure out if you're being strung along and lied to, go see Norton and put yourself at ease. One thing to be aware of though is that Genesis is a one man show...he does the work, the billing, the test drives, etc. That said, if you show up expecting immediate attention and he already has a car on the rack and another couple waiting, he may not be able to push you to the front of the line. ...unless it's something quick. For example, if you arrive desperate and afraid because the HONDA dealership just told you your 2000 Accord engine and tires are going to EXPLODE if you don't spend $600 to fix x,y,z - he may be able to take a couple minutes, visually inspect and/or drive your car, and stop your panic attack & let you know all you really needed was a non-urgent $80 fix! Wow, talk about saving the day and very hard earned money because you sought a second opinion from a garage that doesn't have all the glitz and glamour , but does have what really matters. Call ahead to see when he can fit you in, be prepared to leave your car, or bring a book as you may have to wait for a while. Is that really much different than any repair shop tho? read more

Jasen and the crew at Genesis are extremely detail oriented and take great care when working on the cars. My weekend car is an older late 80's Honda and while parts are hard to find and the car is delicate to work on, Jasen and his team have done great work to it. They've done everything to the car from quick oil/transmission fluid changes to swapping out radiators and fabricating brackets for the new fans. I've always been immensely happy with the quality and care of the work they do. They even fixed a cracked bumper turn signal light on my car without even mentioning it to me that they did. Excellent experience! I had a warning light on my 2009 Hyundai Elantra that indicated a serious electrical malfunction. I was really worried I would have to spend a lot of money on a car that I'm hoping to replace in the next year. I went to Genesis on Monday, December 30th since a lot of other shops were closed for the rest of the year. The mechanic Jasen ran a no-charge diagnostic and figured out one of my O2 sensors needed to be replaced. They found a supplier close by with one in stock and replaced the part, and I've been driving warning light- and noxious fume-free for the past two weeks! The price was very reasonable and the work was done quickly once the part was delivered that day. I highly recommend taking your car here, as I know I certainly will if I need to again! read more

I was recently able to score on getting a car I've wanted for about 30yrs. Honda CRX si. I was getting the smog done next door and a guy walks by to compliment me on my car. Turns out he (Jasen) has a Honda/Acura repair shop next door. As we spoke he seemed genuinely happy for me about my recent car purchase. Just good vibes. After the smog I checked out his shop. Super clean! On my way home, my car dies on me on the freeway. I called Jasen and he gave me a couple things to check. Eventually I just got it towed to his shop the next day. Jasen,Steve,and Gus were all really great people to talk to. Soon as the car was dropped off they got to work checking it out. "Maybe it's this...let's try that...could be this other thing..." they were just bouncing ideas off each other trying to figure it out. And they seemed so into it while trying to solve the puzzle. It reminded me of my youth as we would do the same kind of thing. But unlike me & my buddies, these guys actually know what theyre doing. It was just really good vibes from all the guys and girl (Valerie) working there. I don't know jack about mechanics and always feel like I could be getting screwed some way. I did not get that feeling here at all. For me, trustworthiness is the most important quality in a mechanic. I trust these guys to get my baby running again and not get robbed in the process. I don't think I've ever made a review for a place before the work was done or services received but when I have good news, I want to spread it. If you are thinking Norton is too good to be true, so did I...after 6 years of taking my various Hondas to him for service and repairs, even a couple of my friend's Accords, I cannot say anything but He's the best. I just dread the day he retires. He never tries to UP-Sell like those highly profit driven dealers with bloated payrolls. I just ask him, "what would you do if this is your car, Norton?" and I go with that advice. It has saved me lots of $$ and hopefully sent more work his way by referrals. I love that he's across the street from the dealer so parts are not far away and a block from Enterprise if I need a ride for the day while he's working his magic. I've been to this guy for a couple of things now: broken window motor, old spark plugs, tune ups, busted head light, etc. First of all, he's always up front and honest about price in that he charges you for his labor and exactly the parts that you need, nothing else. For example, the engine light to my Honda Civic went on. When I called the Honda dealership about finding out what was wrong with it, they said it would cost $105 just to hook up the computer to my car to run the diagnostic. I called Lito over at Genesis Automotive instead and he said it would only take five minutes to hook up the machine and that it would be at no cost. I was right there when he did it, too and he let me look at the computer read outs for myself. Also, when my headlight wasn't working, I took it in and asked him to help me out. This was my first ever visit to him. He said to wait ten minutes while he got a screwdriver so he could replace the head light right there on the spot. He didn't even charge me for labor, just the $15 for the light bulb. Finally, he tries to work with your schedule. By this, I mean that he gets the job done quickly if you need your car back by a certain time and also, if you can't pick your car up until late after work, he'll stay in the office later for you. He used to work for the Honda dealership right across the street, but left them when the manager started cutting corners on work and charging more than what was needed to maximize profits instead of looking out for the customers. Bottom line: he knows what he's doing, and he's an honest guy. Those are the best qualities you can find in a mechanic. read more

Around mid-June, I was very grateful that Genesis Automotive was able to accommodate an unscheduled, late afternoon, multi-point vehicle inspection of a used car I was about to purchase from the auto dealer across the street. The inspection service was very thorough. Significant items of the inspection service included: a test drive; putting the car up on a lift for underbody/frame inspection and check for leaks; visual inspection of exterior of the car; tire wear check; brakes inspection; under the hood inspection of engine and fluids; and check for engine diagnostics code. In the end, they provide me with an inspection checklist and the engine diagnostics computer report for my review. The price for the service was very reasonable. For example when my check engine light came on he informed me that the code indicated that the issue was with a valve. Instead of trying to persuade me into replacing it immediately and spending $300 he turned off the light and told me that if the light comes back on that he would perform another check. When my girlfriend couldn't get her car to start any longer, she wanted to bring it to Honda of Pas. I looked this place up for her and suggested she check it out. They diagnosed it to be the starter fairly quickly (which isn't saying much), but told her that they didn't have the part for her car. They said Honda had it but wanted to charge $650, but they found it somewhere else for $350. I ended up getting it online for $130 and having it overnighted. They were cool with me bringing in the 3rd party part, installed it quickly and called her back to come get the car. They even asked us if we wanted the old starter, said they'd give us the address of a place in downtown LA that would buy dead starters for like $20 and fix/resell them, which i thought was cool as all heck. Since we're too busy of people, we said no you keep it as long as there's no disposal fee. They were totally down to make $20 from it. I was going to give them 4 stars, but kinda think they're worth 5 stars.. but i'm on the fence, 4 or 5? I don't know. Then i remembered my boss told me once while giving me my review: "I was on the fence, i could've given you 5 stars, but i gave you 4 instead..." I just remember how much it enraged me to be told "yeah you were worth 5, maybe, but i gave you 4 instead because i wasn't 100% sold on 5." .. I didn't want to do this to these guys, so they get 5 stars. (plus i don't want to be the a-hole who brings their rating down with 4 stars.) read more

This was New Year's eve morning and I needed it done before driving back to SF. Called them at 9:30 to see if they could take me. They said "sure, come on over". I was there in about 15 minutes. About 1/2 hour later they were done. And no upselling! In fact they said your filters are clean, no need to replace. So courteous and competent. Having researched this particular Honda maintenance - A12- I was expecting to be hit up for $200 to $250. That's typical in SF Bay Area. I was due for my 100k service on an Acura TL. The dealer quoted me 2 grand and Norton quoted me $1500. Easy choice. In addition to saving me money, they also got it done incredibly fast(in at 830 and done by 4 same day), the actual price was below what they quoted me($1350 instead of $1500) AND they replaced a motor mount(not included in the $1500 estimate). I couldn't have possibly asked for a better experience. If you're near Pasadena and drive a Honda/Acura, you're nuts to go anywhere else to get your repairs/maintenance done.
