    Side salad

Overall: 3 Food: 2 Service: 4 Ambiance: 3 Came in for lunch around noon just looking for that traditional diner - their menu options are solid so I was thinking it would be a hit. The prices are.. well it's 2024, so they are pricey. Meals that used to be 9 dollars are now like $15 but that's just life. The food itself wasn't anything special. I'm a sucker for open faced hot Turkey sandwiches... it came with a side of mashed potatoes! When the plate was first presented I was a little confused as the mashed potatoes were the same consistency as the gravy so I thought I had a massive plate of gravy. The Turkey was decent, but the bread was kind of lost in the amount of gravy provided. The gravy was just okay which was over half the meal and I'm assuming the potatoes were instant box mash. My girlfriend got the SNS Burger which was their smaller portion burger and a side salad. She said it was mediocre... from a looks standpoint it was pretty, but kind of looked like cheap frozen beef patties. She enjoyed the salad. The service was solid - really no complaints on that end. The environment itself is an old school diner vibe with 2 sections in the building. We were seated on the left side, but I'm assuming both sides are the same style/theme.

Bacon cheese burger is not hand pressed but it's really good.

Walking up there was a hair weave in the grass and a dead bird so I knew this place was going to be good! Our waitress was great! She had a good sense of humor and joked with us several times. I had the bacon GCCB and it was really big! The patty wasn't hand pressed but it was delicious! The fries were really good too. My son had the hungry man special and it was huge! Came with unlimited pancakes too! My other boy had the bbq burger with a side of Mac and cheese. The Mac was pretty bad. I was hoping it was good but it was dry and rubbery. The waffle was huge and full of strawberries and whip cream. I like this place and I would probably be a regular if I lived close by. Two thumbs up from me.

This place is out in West Phoenix. We wanted breakfast in a diner style and that's what we got. It is definitely an older building. The decor has not been updated since..... I don't know actually LoL. Very late 70s mixed with 80s. The feeling you'd get from a diner out in the middle of nowhere. Looks like the owners might be an Asian family. They were so nice. Greeted us and sat us promptly. They were pretty busy mid morning on a Sunday. Our wait wasn't that long. Our server was very pleasant. We placed our order and it was just what we wanted. Delicious hearty kinda greasy diner food. It was just right. My steak and eggs were cooked perfectly. My husbands omelette was flavorful. We certainly will be back when you're in the mood for hearty meal.

Came in here on a Sunday. Even though the joint was packed, service was fast. Waitresses are friendly and prompt, checking-in on our table often. My husband recommends the steak and eggs, one of his fave breakfast spots for a good reason. Food definitely has a homestyle taste. And though you can tell the place is old, it's very clean and smells delicious!! Definitely recommend to anyone who is a fan of old school diners with great food, great service, and a nostalgic feel.

I've been to Genie G's off and on for many year. The food and hospitality are exceptional and I really appreciate it. On a different note, Why don't you…

I wish Yelp would only show ratings from 2025 and later, after 2025 a lot of prices have gone way up and quality has suffered at most locations so a lot of ratings are no longer relavant.

Overall I would give this place a 3/5 stars. Huevos rancheros- disappointed it wasn't the traditional salsa bandera (onion, tomato, Jalepeno) but it was good. Different twist with the rib with eggs. The chips were soggy when I got my food. I liked the red onions, it added a little kick to the food on top of what the food offers to begin with. 6/10 Eggs over medium- not too runny how I like it. Velvety, the eggs weren't burnt crispy and was delightful. Meat was umami, savory and tender. Different than what I expected, had a little kick of spice. Beans were dry and bland. Not very impressed. 3/10 Pancakes were okay. A little dry for my taste but they were fluffy. The syrup with it was tasty. 5/10. I enjoyed this restaurant but I think it was a bit pricey for everything we ordered.

Come Saturday evening, we thought our son would fly in early enough, on his way back from North Carolina, to take him to Lon's restaurant at the resort. Unfortunately, due to delays he was not able to make it to the resort until after ten. By that time, most restaurants are closed for the evening!!! After a quick search, apart from the traditional 24/7s, we spotted the 5 & Diner, and it was close enough to get there within ten minutes! When we drove up, we were mildly surprised, a little retro, a restaurant we are not used to...upon entering the establishment, the staff was prompt, friendly, and we were seated in a nice booth right away. Our server, Danielle A was extremely helpful with the menu items, wonderfully cheerful, prompt on our orders, and could not have been more attentive!!! The food was well prepared, hot, very flavorful, and timely!!! We were extremely surprised and found this restaurant checked all of the boxes...not to mention surprisingly reasonable!!! By the way, the air conditioner was set at a perfect temperature for the triple digits of Phoenix!!! We would go back again!!! Humbly and respectfully, FLK

It arrived with a bun and no lettuce wrap. My husband ordered the Southwest Burger and paid for an extra patty, but received only one. For our three children, I ordered three Short Stacks but received only two. I also ordered two orders of scrambled eggs with turkey sausage but received only one, and I ordered bacon with sunny-side-up eggs but received only the bacon. I alerted the dasher, who returned to the restaurant and called me so I could explain what was missing. Unfortunately, the employee I spoke with was extremely hostile and rude. They insisted that I hadn't ordered the third Short Stack and repeatedly said they only make what's on the ticket. I explained that my screenshot showed the order I placed and that, unfortunately, the ticket apparently didn't contain my entire order. What bothered me most was the attitude. I was treated as though I was asking them to give me something for free, even though I had already paid for these items. I still made a point of expressing my appreciation for the dasher's help despite the way I was being spoken to. The employee responded with a sarcastic "thank you" and hung up on me. The dasher then told me that the restaurant refused to remake or compensate me for the missing and incorrect items, despite the dasher returning to the restaurant and waiting 10 minutes to try to resolve the issue. I didn't even mention the burger bun during the call because the interaction had already become so unpleasant. If the employee was simply having a bad day, I genuinely hope things get better for them. Mistakes happen, and I understand that restaurants can be busy. However, the combination of multiple missing and incorrect items, the refusal to correct or compensate me, and the way my concerns were handled made this an awful experience. Unfortunately, this is a hard pass for me. I wouldn't recommend ordering from here, and I won't be ordering again.

The highlights are the large coffee mugs, the portion sizes, and that they menu items are made with thought, so the only customization made was no butter on the bread. I dumped that over the top and let everything absorb. zit was the right amount of food and great flavor. The build you own omelette is a customization in itself, but the fruit cup made it stand out as it was larger and included bananas at the bottom with enough blueberries and strawberries. Fast forward nine years to 1938, and Fred MacAlpine purchased it, renaming it for his namesake, and operating it as a full-service pharmacy and soda fountain until 1991. It was then purchased by a couple who still own it today and have kept it in as much of its original condition as possible, including the soda fountain, the counter, and the malt machine. When you park and walk to the front of the yellow building, you can't help but feel joy. The storefront windows, the antiques, all of it make you wonder just how far back in time you're going to travel. Once you've stepped foot inside and onto the checkered floor, you can't help but smile at the counter, all of the antiques from decades past, and the wait staff who wears 1950s uniforms. We slid into our wood booth with the tiny jukebox on the wall and immediately got to reviewing the extensive menu. Everything... and I mean EVERYTHING... looked good. Bonus: They have gluten-free bread! My husband chose the cheeseburger and I chose the turkey BLT (on gluten-free bread) - both were delicious! We then opted to share a mint chocolate chip milkshake that was created on the original 1940s machine - something that completed the experience. When we were done, we were fortunate enough to chat with Monica Heizenrader, co-owner of MacAlpine's wth her daughter. She is a very kind woman who is very passionate about keeping the history of this diner alive, even taking to selling antiques (in the other rooms of the building) to help support the upkeep. However, with rising costs and some family challenges, it's getting tough. She was proud to have kept this going as long as she and her family have and even mentioned some of the more notable people that have stepped into the diner over the decades, including Barry Goldwater (a regular), Joan Ganz Cooney (one of the creators of Sesame Street), Frank Lloyd Wright, Aunt Maud, Marshall Good, Wayne Newton (who was discovered by a talent scout there), and more! Very nice - but cherry is always my go to. My mom chose Black Cherry which seems like a small distinction but her choice was better. We split the Turkey Bacon Croissant sandwich. I'd say the sandwich was just average, however service was excellent with different people continuously checking on us. The interior here is very dark/cozy and filled with antiques, taking you back to another era. There's a small antique shop you can step through to on the other side if you feel like browsing after you eat. We were too full to enjoy dessert but they have so many great options: shakes, malts, sundaes, homemade pie. I really need to get down here more and their special offerings.
