I must be transparent and say that having lunch here today is not the first visit I paid at this establishment. Anecdotally, I first ate here when I intended to dine at a neighboring restaurant and they happened to be closed but Genki was open. It was during my work lunch hour so I did not have much time to pivot. I must say that that I do not regret my decision patronizing Genki the first time and subsequent visits. The service here is friendly, quick and efficient. The food is also excellent. Everything is delicious and the sushi and Sashimi are very fresh. I have recommended this place to others and they have all had similar experiences as I have. The interior is clean and the kitchen is open. There is a parking lot so there is no need to worry about street parking. I will be back again and again. read more

A nice Japanese option in the Lancaster , plenty of packing outside and easily accessible area. The inside interior looks great and very clean. The staff are so friendly and respectful, really genuine Japanese customer service . I tried the spicy tuna which had plenty of tuna and great meat to rice ratio. I also tried the fire roll which was somewhat disappointing, it was not spicy and had an almost bitter/sweet after taste, I was not a big fan. I also tried the cucumber salad which only has a sliver of imitation crab and it was good but not worth it. I hope to come back and try more classics like spicy salmon. The ginger tasted great and they give you plenty of wasabi , way more than you need. The restaurant is spacious with plenty of seating options. Will be back soon! read more

I'm not expecting a Michelin-starred restaurant but it tasted like fast food and our rolls were falling apart when they brought them to our table. The woman that sat us was very nice and attentive. Very high quality compared to other local sushi spots and their Black Pearl special roll is one of the best rolls I have ever had. We had lunch here the other day selecting it by the 5 star rating so many people gave. Our whole experience was a mixed bag. The staff was warm, friendly, helpful and professional. That was a big plus! We ordered a Volcano Roll , 2 kinds of Sashimi, and an Unagi Donburi. No beer or sake at this place. They welcomed us with a 3-piece tuna roll on the house. It was different. The tuna was cooked. We were grateful! Our order came soon after. As fresh as the Sashimi was, the experience was not as we had expected because the sashimi pieces were sliced too thickly. It lost that delicate Japanese touch. The Volcano Roll was a different kind we'd not had in any other Sushi restaurant. Hats off to them for trying to stand out. My first visit to Genki was mid-July for take out. Unbeknownst to me, they opened in April. I am soooo glad to have ordered from here as this is the best sushi I've eaten in Lancaster County in years. It rivals a favorite near Baltimore. I ordered salmon roll, eel roll with cucumber, tako salad, and Black Dragon (spicy tuna roll topped with grilled eel). Yes.... I love eel. It's a fatty fish but so flavorful and has a wonderful texture. All rolls were generous portions and super fresh. Genki is affiliated with Sapporo East (https://sapporoeastsushi.com/) in Mechanicsburg which has an excellent reputation and has been in business for approximately 20 years. They have other locations near Baltimore who have received several awards over many years. Finally, Lancaster County has a high quality Japanese restaurant serving superb cuisine. They've earned a regular customer and I hope to dine here for decades! Check it out. read more

With trends, I am forever coming late to the party-- so me and sushi are relatively new to each other. And don't get me wrong-- I had the errant bite here and there, but nothing with enough gravitas to make me want a commitment. Until now. Genki Sushi and Grill is one of those places I would have never found without someone telling me to look for it. It's tucked into a strip mall off of Manheim Pike, its frontage effaced by bigger, more recognizable franchises-- Chili's, KFC, Subway, and Rita's, which is really a shame-- because Genki has something to offer that no franchise ever could. We went at around 4:00 on a Tuesday, and no one was there; the space was serene, quiet-- all clean lines and spareness-- what one would expect from a sushi place-- and the menu reads like a novel: sushi, teriyaki, tempura, all the standards. But Genki is anything but standard. Menus make us suffer from choice, so we like variety. We started with the Edamame, which came to the table warm and flecked with salt, and then the Gyoza-- a step up from a run of the mill dumpling, with it's delicate pastry encasing a subtly seasoned bit of chicken and pork-- served with that soy, ginger garlicky dipping sauce dotted with black sesame seeds. Both were fantastic. Then came the Jungle Roll, a salmon roll served warm atop a soy based sesame flavored glaze, an unctuous, slightly peppery, but also subtly crunchy bite. Then came the mains: the spider roll, the lobster tail roll, the Chesapeake roll, and the Volcano special roll; all of them were more than worthy of the name "good"-- but the standout-- the one that was calling my name ten minutes after we left-- was that Volcano Special roll-- the perfect pairing of warm and cold, sweet and savory. I'm sayin' that roll is the embodiment of gustatory balance: real warm crab, the subtle heat of chili, and the cooling sweet note of diced fresh mango, all atop of a hint of wasabi cream. No lie. It was nirvana. And then, on top of everything else, the green tea was a perfect comfort while we briefly waited for our food; the service was attentive, warm, and unobtrusive. Genki Sushi and Grill truly has ALL the things-- and should you be so brazen as to strike out and try something new, you too will find that fortune does indeed favor the bold. read more
