We came here extra hungry and ordered a boat full of sushi, and left full and satisfied, having eaten 10% of the ocean and our weight in tobiko. The sushi here is great, fresh, and made our neighboring table gawk at us with looks of "OMG why didn't I order that?!" as our enormous sushi boat creeped onto their table. The boat was a solid selection of spicy tuna rolls, salmon rolls, California rolls, shrimp tempura, etc. Definitely a good mix that probably easily feeds 5 people (for $100). Points for cute set-up / decor -- there are curtains giving every table a bit of chic privacy, and it's very much Japanese minimalist zen. Service was excellent, food was incredible (esp. the volcano maki!), and I can't wait to come back to try some more of their specialty rolls. read more

Genki is a stunningly executed sushi restaurant in Legacy Place, and quite frankly the best quality food in the plaza. If you're with a group that enjoys sushi I can not recommend this place enough. We started with some fried pork gyoza and moved onto two simple rolls and two specialty rolls. The specialty rolls we order came out pleasantly warm and practically melted in our mouths, while the Smoked Salmon rolls we order were some of the best I've had in a while. While prices aren't cheap, they're fair for sushi and considering the locale I may even say priced at a bargain, we certainly would have spent more at some of the surrounding eateries! Overall I highly recommend this place, though it isn't overly large so I would recommend checking in early! When I saw the sign, Genki, I thought that it was Genki sushi, which is a sushi chain that serves conveyor belt sushi. I stepped in and realized that there was no conveyor belt sushi, and that this restaurant was not part of the chain. Anyways, I decided to give it a try. The service was quick and efficient. Stopped in for lunch on a weekday. We ordered the three rolls Maki lunch special. I had mushroom tempura roll, spicy tuna and spicy yellowtail. Wife had unagi roll, California/shrimp roll and spicy yellowtail. Each meal came with a small salad and a bowl of miso soup. Miso was really good, had straw mushrooms and green onions. Salad was fine, but too much dressing. Sushi was good. The mushroom tempura was just sliced mushroom, no tempura batter as far as we can tell. Other sushi was typical. Filling and quiet setting. Nice staff, had to ask for a green tea refill. Atmosphere was fine. The restaurant needs to clean up the hallway leading to the restrooms, lots of stuff in the hallway. read more

Then a man came out and basically told us we couldn't order. We have never had a sushi place turn us away. They did. It would have been easy enough to wipe down the area and take care. Ordered nabeyaki udon from ubereats as well as the karaage chicken. Thin of the thinnest slices of chicken that are cheaply breaded and chewy - that was the karaage. Probably the worst I've ever had. Do not recommend. And the nabeyaki udon was super salty, barely any veggies or mushrooms (2). Tons of noodles. 25 dollars a bowl for that. Egg was overcooked. No way. You're better off traversing into Boston. I'm sure the people are nice, but the food barely passes as edible, and for sure isn't Japanese. read more

We went her impromptu on a weeknight, the place was not so busy and were seated right away. The ambience is great and liked the decor a lot. We ordered edamame, Scorpion roll, torch roll, rainbow roll and rich salmon roll. All the food arrived at the same time and it was delicious. Scorpion roll was my least favorite, the eel was a bit chewy. I know not to order it the next time. Not a huge fan of spicy mayo on sushi and they had plenty of options for me. I wasn't sure if I wanted to write this as we are big Genki fans. We have had good experiences at this location as well, but we are done. Food is generally great, no issues. I think its a great sushi/Japanese chain locally and they never disappoint. We have always had fresh sushi here and they had great items on the menu. Our waitress was also great, she was helpful and ended up giving us a discount for our frustrations. We have always had good service here as well. The reason for the poor review is solely based on the host during a lunch date we had on friday. He had been clipping his nails and when we asked to stop, he continued to do so. We lost our appetite quickly and were really disappointed. Our waitress gave us a discount which was a nice gesture but we won't be coming back to this location ever again. Very gross. read more

We came in at around 4PM on a Wednesday and the restaurant was pretty much empty, except for 2 other people, yet it still took 10 mins to get seated. The workers were not attentive, so the only 2 people sitting there had to get their attention. Finally got seated and ordered California Roll, Caterpillar Roll, Spicy Tuna Roll and Ikura Sushi. The California roll was huge with too much rice. The caterpillar roll was even bigger, yet it had almost no eel in it. The spicy tuna roll was ice cold and the Ikura sushi's fish eggs were saltier then the ocean they were obtained from. Overpriced sushi to be honest, will not be coming back. read more

I religiously eat at their Brookline location, but when I heard they were opening a location in the beautiful Legacy Place in Dedham, I had to try it. The food is still amazing as it is in Brookline. But the location is much larger and very modern looking. Its in a great area of Legacy Place, right next to the movie theater (perfect for dinner and movie). I had the makimono combo which is 24 pieces of various sushi with a miso soup for only $19.99! The sushi is always made fresh and delicious. The service is quick and pleasant. This is my favorite restaurant!!!! I normally come once a week and everyone in the restaurant treated me like friends. Salmon torched is my first choice, super dragon and Yaki udon are yummy yummy. Angel is my personal server lol, she's definitely sweet and kind. I love ginger for my sushi, she's very patient no matter how much time I stop her for extra-sauce or ginger. Parking is easy in the free parking structure by the shopping center. The restaurant is within an outdoor mall area and was easy to find. Their menu is extensive with many roll options that include vegetarian options and options without raw fish. This place was sub-par, I've had better sushi. My boyfriend and I stopped by after catching a movie, and since he was craving sushi. I personally wanted Shake Shack! Our waiter was nice, but a little clumsy. He kept spilling our soy sauce dishes every time he bumped into the table. We started with the gyoza (pan-fried pork dumpling), and it reminded me of the one's I used to buy at the asian grocery store. I was like for real? I could've gotten this at home, and not have to pay $7 for it. The dumplings were definitely not pan-fried either. We decided to be adventurous and try the tori no karaage (Japanese style fried chicken, battered with ginger and garlic. served with mustard sauce). If that is how Japanese style fried chicken is, I don't think I ever wanna try KFC in Japan. I'm Vietnamese, and it reminded me of this shrimp paste on a sugarcane, I used to eat as a child. We ordered two rolls of sushi because we weren't starving. The crazy maki was eh, I've had better. Their volcano roll was my favorite, it had great presentation. It made my night. Since it was my turn to pick up the bill, I noticed that soda refills were not free (it would've been nice to know). I personally wouldn't return, it was not my cup of tea. This is definitely my go to place for sushi when I'm in town. The plaza is always packed but I've never had to wait for a table. Very quiet restaurant as there are only 3 or 4 other parties when I'm here. My favorite appetizer here is the fried gyoza, on the other hand the seafood delight was waaaayyyyy too mayo'd up. The beef negima was a good filler but not something I was too crazy about. My favorite sushi roll is the doomsday roll, although the banana in there was strange yet complemented the other ingredients. I've also tried the following rolls and they were all wonderful: triple torch, salmon torch, spicy scallop, spicy king crab, scorpion, and spider rolls. The hostess and waiters here are all friendly but the language barrier is a downfall that makes them come off as rude. Fortunately for me I'm used to this barrier so I though the service is always tolerable. It is disappointing that they rarely seat parties at the sushi bar, they mainly use it to prepare cutlery and place water pitchers on. Overall, this is a great place for a Friday date night or to fuel you up for bar hopping around in the plaza. read more

Hmm...and the sauce was just some soy/sugar/mirin mixture. They do serve uni (urchin roe/gonad) here. The ones I was served still had brown specks of the the poor urchin dotting the roe. All semi standard. Food was standard good, not bad, not great. Service was good too: refilled glass twice, asked me twice if things ok, took away empty dishes as soon as I finished.
