Grabbed a take out order of chicken parm and a side salad for dinner on a Friday night. There is a separate back door where you can go solely to pick up take out orders which was very convenient. The back parking lot is very small and can get crowded though so in that case I would try to park in the lot across the side street. The chicken parm was well seasoned and breaded. The house salad was also simple and effective, did the job well. The to go meal also came with a small loaf of bread on the side which was a pleasant surprise! Gennaro's Eatery in Boston was a very cute Italian restaurant with delicious food. They give you bread and oil when you sit at your table. The New England clam chowder (not pictured) was delicious. Our server told us they win an award every year for the clam chowder, I definitely recommend. The arancini is good if you like sausage. The chicken parm was the best chicken parm I have ever had in my life, definitely recommend. Our server was super nice and personable and boxed up our food for us and wrote on each of our boxed what was inside. We loved it there but couldn't eat it all because it was so much food with the bread and apps. 10/10 would recommend! read more

Not one thing to complain about, both are meals were excellent. . It was off hours so customer wise it was quiet so service seemed very attentive. I have ordered from here multiple times and usually the food is great. Unfortunately the other day I had the special which was stuffed peppers and regretted it! I had it at work and it smelled bad, tasted bad lost my appetite as soon as I tasted it! Have felt nauseous and had the chills ever since eating it. Feel like I'm gonna get sick! I've never had a bad meal from Gennaro's. Chicken or Eggplant Parm are outstanding. Love their sicilian pizza, very filling and delicious every time. Reminds me of the Italian cooking I grew up with! Portions are great and often I get a second meal out of them. Service is excellent, dining room is small/medium size, but I've never had to wait long, if at all. Wait staff is very friendly! The 4-5 star Yelp reviews are definitely out of date. I ordered the chicken ziti broccoli with white wine and it tasted like nothing. The sauce honestly tasted like water lol and the chicken was tough. My boyfriend got the chicken Marsala and it was slightly better than mine because you can taste a little bit of favor but not a lot. Eating it was like torture, we couldn't even finish our food. I went to Gennaro's and got the Rib Eye dinner ( they were out of the Chicken Pot Pie ), to go, and I was so disappointed! It was disgusting! The container was filled with sliced tasteless meat, it sure didn't taste like any rib eye steak! Lots of fat and tasteless brown gravy! Even the Broccoli tasted funny! They gave me 3 slices of stale bread wrapped up which I could not eat! The only thing that tasted good was the potatoes!!! I threw away 90% of it! What a waste of $18.00!!! My first experience here was when my husband and I came back to his hometown under unfortunate circumstances. I was in dire need of some good Italian dishes and there is none where I am from (California). I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food ( we ordered chicken parm / calamari / pasta ) it was delicious and is very generous in portions. The service also was fantastic! Our waitress Sue was very attentive and held great conversation! I was so impressed with them that later that week we decided to order for pick up to try their pizza - here is where it gets good. I was helping plan a funeral and as you know everything is done quickly and last minute. I was having a difficult time getting a hold of other establishments in the area and was getting very worried on what to do. In comes in my husband who mentioned that they do rent out the restaurant for events and that was all I need to give them a call. I was directly connected to Gerry and was able to come up with a plan right that that moment. He was very accommodating and gave excellent suggestions! I was finally put at ease that things were falling into place. On the day of the funeral - when we were arrived at our prior discussed time - everything was set up beautifully - we have had 50 people to our party. Everything went smoothly - food was amazing - people went back for seconds. The service was out of this world with Sue, Owner Gerry, His son Anthony and a few others I did not have the opportunity to get their names. Overall, we were treated like VIP and would highly recommend considering this place to host events or even have an evening out with a loved one - trust me you will not be disappointed. I was pleasantly surprised when I stopped by Gennaro's with a large group for dinner. The bread and oil dip was really good for a starter. My parents ordered the Margherita and they loved it. They said the crust was perfect. My dad and I both ordered the steak with a side of pasta and Mom ordered shrimp scampi. All of our dishes were delicious and the portions were huge!! It seemed like we barely made a dent and we had a lot to take home. I would love to come back again and try another dish. For dessert, I got the m&m cookie and was pretty disappointed. Waitress was great but place is understaffed. She had every table; taking orders, serving and cleaning. The haddock special was not good. Fish was obviously frozen with mushy cracker topping. I know for a fact I speak for most Italian sub lovers - put some Italian sub toppings on this! Any variation of oil, vinegar, or balsamic to give the sandwich some moisture, and then any variation of lettuce, tomato, onion, hots or pickles. The only reason I am even giving it two stars is because the minestrone soup was very good My wife ordered the veal parm and it was so overcooked that it was tough, dry and burnt, so bad she didn't even finish it never mind take it home. I got the fettuccine alfredo with chicken. Chicken was cooked properly but the sauce was way too thick. I recently had a dinner party at my house and asked Gerry from Gennaro's to make the entire Turkey dinner for 10 people. Gerry and his staff were gracious enough to make an UNBELIEVABLE DELICIOUS meal. The Turkey was perfect and cut making it so easy to serve, the mash potatoes, homemade gravy, corn, Apple pies and stuffing. I can't say enough about the entire cooked meal. They even brought all the food, loaded my car even opening the restaurant just to get this dinner done for my Friendsgiving celebration. I ordered a meatball sub for takeout. I cut it into pieces so it's easier to eat. As I was eating I found an object in the meatball. I coul have swallowed and choked on it. I have no idea what the object was. it could be a bone or plastic. Who knows. I threw the sub away. it was such a tragic experience that I will and cannot eat any meatballs again. So dissatisfied and disappointed. After many years of being a #1 fan, I'm finding that more often than not, things have changed here, and not for the better. I get it,....there's always bad days at busy restaurants; I see more 'bad days" happening more and more here. this weekend, our take out dinner wasn't good. ~ we ordered chicken parm,...and received a tiny paper-thin, ( and I kid you not) piece of veal instead of the chicken . Gross. ~ we also ordered the carbonara .....very skimpy portion, with a salty creamed 'broth"....wasnt the great old thick creamy version.So skimpy on the tortellini. ~ the bread tasted dry and stale ( in the old days, I couldn't resist eating a roll in the way home),....this time, I saved the sliced bread for the seagulls.
