So I arrived here late on a biz trip. Talked to a security guard at another spot that was shutting dow and he reccomend this place. The Front was a pizza joint walked to the back full on dive bar. Great music, all genres and had a great local feel. The bartender was a very sweet girl, kept her cool through a very boisterous crowd. Loud, active drinker vibes. It was so cheap, great drinks. Downtown Pittsburgh, around midnight after a day in the hot sun at PNC park. We were starving! Did a Yelp search of who was open and found this gem! Got a hot fresh pizza in the lobby about 20 minutes after ordering. The in shop crust was soft, but had that perfect crunch on the bottom, the toppings generous. Okay let's face it. We were hungry. But still, this is one of the top 5 pizzas I've ever had. My wife and I started think let's just have 2 or 3 slices. We put it in the fridge, and 10 minutes later, I catch her getting another slice. My friends and I went to Genoas bar to reflect on our college memories and to get rid of our change from our apartments "tip jar" (a jar of change that we collected throughout our 3 years of living together). We walked up to the bar tender, Holly, and acknowledged that paying in all change was an inconvenience but it was sentimental and important to us. She flatly denied us and said she was " way too busy".... on a tuesday... at 11:00. we had the change counted out and would've tipped her heavy for helping us create memories. We then went to sit down and wait for our pizza drinkless and she ranted to other customers about how immature we were. We just wanted to have a good last night in our apartment and she definitely put a damper on it :(. A simple polite no would've sufficed. Ordered a pizza for delivery. Delivery driver called when he claimed to be here. Dropped me a pin where he was parked. It was a mile away!! Asked him to pull in front of hotel so he canceled the delivery. I called the restaurant and first spoke to a bartender. She was very nice and tried to be helpful. Passed me onto manager. He said order was canceled would not deliver. My husband waited in front of hotel for a half hour in the rain for this. Will never give them my business. And can not recommend it. Absolutely the worst Calzone I've ever had! It was nothing but grease, completely inedible! Very little ricotta! When placing the order the price on the menu was $12.49 plus 1.66 for the sausage, he charged me $17 and change, when I brought this to his attention he quickly corrected it! I don't know for sure, but looking at their menu and walking by the next day to see the restaurant, I am guessing they will make a pizza any way you want them to. Fairly standard pizza shop. A bit mediocre, but it's not bad, and certainly a few highlights even. They are open very late and the location is interesting (Boulevard of the Allies). I tried the classic cheese calzone and their cannoli. Their calzone came in a solid size. It was a bit soggy, but not insanely so. Some of the cheese was also in clumps, which made for a bit of a strange texture. But overall, it wasn't a bad calzone. Not too bready, and not too oily. Good size. Price was fair enough too. I really quite liked the cannoli. I'm not sure if they are homemade (probably not), but the cannoli cream on the inside was very tasty. Although it was a tad stale, I still enjoyed the dessert. The chocolate felt a bit plasticy though. You get 2 per order. All in all, this is a pretty good spot for pizza and other such items. Prices are fine, portions are solid, and it's open very late. Glad they were open on New Years Eve (during the day). I guess it's me-I like to say something good, when I also deliver unfavorable reviews. I tried to order on line. But, you can't use a coupon AND order on line. So I called. The phone rang and rang, then disconnected, three times. On the fourth (and final attempt) I did get through. Ordered a pizza for delivery. After over an hour, I called back to see where the delivery was. I was told he tried to deliver but my phone number was wrong. They apparently recorded the number I called from and not my actual number (that I gave them over the phone when I placed the order). Pizza is average, at best. It's cold. Hopefully, when I heat it up it will be better. UPDATE: Nope, the pizza is not good. Hardly any sauce or cheese. Toppings are OK (Pepperoni and mushroom). Got some garlic bread for the kid in the group who would not eat anything else. The bread was really soft and fresh with mild garlic flavor. It was served warm and was just perfect for the cold weather. Service was pretty fast if you ignore the line. read more

Let me tell you how you go from being a loyal regular, to NOT giving a place a second chance: I never had a bad experience with this place, since I started ordering from them last year every 2 week. However, I ordered delivery from them the evening of May 28 and this UNBELIEVABLY is what occurred: My order showed up with a cold pizza, that was OVERcooked, where my tomato topping had like LITERALLY (not exaggerating) 1-2 little pieces of tomato on each slice. Ask me about the sauce? Well, I couldn't tell you because IF they put it on, I couldn't find it! The LARGE dinner salad ($12.92) was a small put in a large container. I've ordered from this place over a dozen times and this IS NOT the quality I expect. That's fine, everyone has an off day! So, I called thinking they'd be reasonable... but they didn't even offer store credit. Just said "pizza drivers don't always have pizza containers/bags". So what? Okay, maybe it wouldn't have been COLD, but it was STILL over cooked. This man child "manager" I spoke to initially wouldn't even come to the phone, then made excuses instead of trying to fix the problem. In the 12 minute convo of my time he wasted, it was ALL EXCUSES. Whoever was staffed Wednesday evening May 28 was bottom barrel level compared to all the other positive experiences I've had. I'm out $40 for a salad, pizza and tip... but you'll never get another dollar from me and I'll make SURE to cost you 10X the amount it would have cost you to give me a store credit in good faith for trying you again. I'm a loyal customer of Genoa. I love their buffalo chicken hoagie. It compares very well to Pizza Milano on 5th Ave. I normally have no issue. Today was a different story. I ordered a whole buffalo chicken hoagie for take-out. They gave me a whole italian hoagie. I didn't realize until I got back to my office. I called them about it and let them know. I returned to Genoa and gave them back the italian. They gave me the buffalo chicken. I returned to my office and opened foil wrapper. Half of the buffalo chicken didn't have chicken. It was just cheese and buffalo fries. I brought that hoagie back and explained to them that this was my 3rd time in the store. They said they would make me another hoagie and I could wait. I told them I don't have time to wait as it took my whole lunch break to resolve this issue. I asked them to refund my order. They did refund my order but did not offer anything else as restitution for my time. They lost a very loyal customer that worked right next to them. Everyone in my office was asking me why I kept leaving with my hoagie. I explained to them all the situation. I doubt anyone in my building will be going there anytime soon. read more

Thought I'd try a new place so I ordered Genoa delivery. I always try a new place out by ordering a deluxe Pizza and half an Italian hoagie. Well, hoagie was good and had a decent amount of meat and tomatoes and onions (my favorite) and lettuce. But I gave 3.5 out of 5 stars. Pizza was another story. Dry and bland. It seemed like there wasn't any sauce on it at all and how do you make a bland deluxe?? I would imagine it is pretty hard to do! Even the crust was tasteless. Entirely. And I asked for anchovies. I saw one on the whole pie. And tasted them maybe 3 times. So much for this new tryout. One and done. It was a 45 minute wait which I understand with staffing shortages and a Saturday evening. However, my pizza arrived immensely dry and lacking flavor. This place screams old school pizza shop. The pizza is delicious and there is a separate bar where you can get drinks. You know this place is good because all the others hospitality staff from other joints showing up after there places closed. Highly recommend for a way to close out the evening.
