While the staff at the office may clinically seem all right, this place should be avoided. I was a patient (now victim) of this office for over a decade back when it was Southwest Dental. It was sold to a private equity group, rebranded as Gentle Dental, and now they are pushing procedures that are not needed. All of this is done in order to increase revenues and drive a higher return on investment. I put trust into their staff because of my long history of being a patient with them. I never thought they would try to milk my insurance for as many procedures as possible. When my insurance pushed back and I got a second opinion (from an independent dentist), I learned how this game works. If you do decide to go here, be sure that they get preauthorization for procedures from your insurance so you can avoid surprise billing. Also, ask them if the hygienists receive commissions. I have been going here for years...and it's a bit frustrating to always have a new hygienist and mostly new faces in the office. I do really like the dentist. Today was a good visit. Dr. Silverman and his staff are great. They are friendly and make you feel comfortable. We have not had an issue with the office trying to upsell procedures. I typically have to wait about 20-30 minutes before being seen, which can be annoying when I'm having to change my schedule to accommodate their appointment times. I am concerned about repeated billing issues. My husband and I have paid our balance at the end of each visit, yet we have received multiple bills. We have contacted Gentle Dental and they say our balance is $0. They have confirmed this multiple times, but I continue to receive "past due bills" by mail. This is beyond frustrating and needs to be corrected. read more

From the time I discussed costs with Lisa over the phone, to my first visit today for a wisdom tooth extraction, my experience at Gentle Dental Ahwatukee has been a phenomenal one! When I walked in for my appointment, I was greeted by name and quickly checked-in by Lisa who is so warm and friendly. Dr. Troy Richins was so gentle and kind, and he took the time to discuss my treatment plans with me. Dr. Richins also made me feel as comfortable as possible. All in all, we worked together to come up with a perfect plan, and Lisa scheduled me for two upcoming appointments in a breeze! Such a great staff here! From the front desk to Dr. Chow. Everyone was so friendly, welcoming and helpful. My whole family went here for the first time together including our 1 year old son for his first check up! Definitely started his dental experiences with the right foot. Dr Chow was very good with him and didnt push him past being comfortable. And he also advised how to keep him from getting scared of the dentist for the future! I love Dr. Silverware and he is a great Dentist. Kind , patient and very thorough. But the office is a mess. They cancel appointments all the time for one reason or another .I had an appoint for the 27th of December for over 4 months and then 1 week before they called and canceled. But yet I continued to get text reminders of my appointment on the 27th. then the office called yesterday to make sure that I knew the office would be closed permanently on Wednesdays and that my appointment was cancelled . It is very frustrating to continue to make sure I take time and schedule my day to go to the dentist office and yet again my appointment is canceled. I have to pay if I don't show up or cancel in a timely manner but they do no have any consequences for me rearranging my life. I will not go back to that office and I am very sad to leave. the Dentist there is exceptional. read more

I don't recommend these people at all. I assume they pay for positive reviews to be shown. In late September I had a massive tooth infection, my lower left jaw had swollen to the size of a ping pong ball and I couldn't talk. I needed to see a dentist as my regular dentist was closed for a three day weekend. These people were my last option before seeing an emergency room. I called and was able to be seen before they closed. I was treated like a patient who was important and that was appreciated. I saw the dentist and he recommended that I go to a Gentle Dental surgeon to get the tooth "drained". I was in an incredible amount of pain and had no other options rather than going to an ER, so I took his referral to go see the Surgeon and was prescribed an antibiotic for the infection. I arrived at the referred office and I had a brief wait before I was seen. The surgeon was pleasant and she sat me in her chair, looked in my mouth and laughed that I was referred to her for this procedure. She explained to me that the tooth would need to be pulled eventually but that I just needed to take the antibiotic and that I would be okay. She said, "If you want me to take your money, I will do the procedure. But I don't think you need it". Feeling relieved that I wasn't in worse condition than I was I went home. I was later charged $67 dollars for the visit to the surgeon, although no procedure was performed and in her opinion I didn't need the procedure. I called the help line and was told I was charged for a "consult". I questioned, "Why am I being charged for a consult for a procedure that my dentist knew I didn't need in the first place?". I got no response that matched my question. The girl on the phone was just doing her job, but she knew this wasn't right. Now if I take my car into a mechanic and he looks at it, and nothing is wrong, I don't get charged 50+ dollars for a quick look. However this is Gentle Dental policy. I JUST paid this bill so the constant phone calls and harassment would end. If you can AFFORD these people treating you in this way, I can highly recommend them. read more

I use this office to have my dentures adjusted and I have been back a few times and they are welcoming every visit. We are getting closer every visit to a perfect fit and they are not the least of all frustrated with multiple return visits. Free of charge of course. read more

I had to change dentists due to my insurance and I was very hesitant. My assigned dentist was Gentle Dental with Dr. Silverman. I was so impressed with his staff and the dentist. I was able to get an appointment right away, my wait time in the office was short, the staff was so sweet and constantly checked on me during my procedures, and I experienced the best treatment and cleaning from Dr. Silverman and his staff. Scam artists. Teeth are fine, went to them for simple cleaning and "Dr." Silverman refused to clean my teeth until I did did the $500 uncovered cleaning. He stated he would be in jeopardy of losing his license by simply cleaning my teeth. Keep in mind I've never had a cavity or any oral surgery of any kind. To top off the wonderful experience, I waited over an hour and a half to be seen. The Hygienist was incredibly kind, but clearly embarrassed that it took so long. They took the time to get me into someone that specialised in the particular problem I was having and they did it that day. I really appreciated that. This is really a business run by Interdent llc in California and not an actual dental office. Intead of submitting the charges for my wife and I to our dental insurance company, they billed our credit card full tilt. As a result of this fraud, my credit card company refunded us over $3000.00 for the false charges! I was a patient when it was Southwest and was very happy. Came back and I'm STILL very happy! The lovely ladies at the receptionist desk were VERY friendly and knowledgable!! The dental assistant was professional and friendly! The hygienist that did my cleaning was Very thorough and paid great attention to detail! The new manager/ receptionist in this office has been very unpleasant. Once I was 5 minutes late, literally for an appointment and she gave the appointment to someone else. I was charged for something that was not done and promised to be refunded. That was over two months ago. I was called to cancel my appointments as a result of calling customer service about these issues. I was told because of the complaints that I could always find another dentist. I am echoing one prior review regarding reckless billing practice by another user. I have similarly just found out they have been over-charging above my co-pay schedule. When I requested an account review, they did own up to their mistake and I was told they owe me around $1,800, although based on my co-pay schedule I suspect the actual number should be higher. It took forever for them to reimburse and provide an updated statement, however. Last contact was 5/2/18 and I was told it takes three weeks. Well, it is the fifth week now and counting. It might take another great review for them to do the right thing. read more

Echoing other reviewers before, Dr. Silverman, his assistants, and hygienists are great, but their accountants are over-zealous with the billing. Before I first visited, I actually brought this up with one of the receptionists, who reassured me that all previous complaints on yelp about billing had to do with a previous owner. I was however still on alert. Sure enough, on 1/13 I received their statement and paid it off immediately with credit card, which was posted on 1/15 in my credit card account. Then I received a mail from them with a postmark on 1/17 regarding unpaid balance. When I called they acknowledged that balance was now zero, but gee, I have never seen any service who have been so aggressive in collecting, essentially jumping on your back starting from day one, and you would not get a break even if you pay your statement immediately! What's wrong with giving people some credit? I am keeping my next appointment, but they need to know I am not happy. With all previous complaints, I thought they should have known better now. It would be a pity if patients would not come back for issues as silly as this. read more

I am absolutely very pleased with this dental office. I've been to lots of the other Gentle Dental locations, and this one I like the most. The dental staff are very sweet and mindful of your visit. Diana is my favorite assistant, she has probably known me the longest out of the other staff members. I always feel comfortable with her during my appointments. Dr. Silverman is a very laid back Doctor. He is very easy going, one of my favorite Drs by far (aside from Dr. Mazer). He is always willing to explain any of the procedures that will be done to you. He reminds you during procedures to let him know of any pain or simply to just breathe! He has updated the office with cool electronics for the usual dental exams. I like that I can see my X-rays right away. It's neat when he adjusts the contrast levels and shows me where my cavities are on a large screen instead of those tiny little film strips from long ago! One thing to note is that Dr. Silverman has a great music playlist. It's nice to listen to some good jams, for you know, those long procedures. It's about the only thing to help keep you distracted from the time and drilling! One of THE best reasons to visit that office is the receptionist staff. Desiree and Blair are always there to assist you in all your dental needs. They are so personable, funny, and are too very sweet. read more

The front office staff are friendly and were able to accommodate my busy schedule with flexible hours and scheduling all my work in one appointment. 12/23/16 called the office spoke with Blair no last name who has been handling my financial info there. I asked to get my file emailed to me or if I could pick up a copy as I am going through a dispute with them for charging me out for work that was either never started or never finished they are trying to charge me over $5000. This office is refusing to give me a copy of my file to show to a dispute lawyer so I can pay for work that was actually done and completed. I'm still so disgusted in the way they conduct their business and treated me as a patient. I'm making sure to write a yelp review every time I am in contact with them because it is just awful the way they talk and treat me and I want to make others aware of their true colors which is they simply just want money, they do not care if your walking around in pain with unfinished dental work, I also have reported them to the BBB twice and in the process of setting up the interview with 3tv. I'm not stopping there also obtaining a lawyer and disputing these fees again I have no problem paying for the work that was finished/completed but refuse to pay for stuff they never even touched or finished/completed. read more

I had been a patient of Gentle Dental for years. After signing in to my appointment today, I was advised by a very unprofessional office clerk that I have an outstanding balance from 2015 and that it had gone to collections. I told her that this must be a mistake since I have always paid my bill at the time of service and this is the first I heard of this balance. In the past 3 years of going to this dentist, no one had ever mentioned anything??? I told her I would need to look into this and she advised I could not be seen today if this balance was outstanding. I asked her why she waited until this very minute to tell me this and her response was, " I just got back." Huh??? The worst part is that she said it loud enough so other patients could hear her. I will never go back to this dentist. In addition, they can forget trying to collect the lousy $50 they somehow think I owe from 3 years ago, too!
