I've been coming here regularly since 2020 for regular cleaning, x-rays, and cavity filling and all my experiences have been extremely positive. The process of signing up was easy with a quick phone call. After that, I would regularly fill out an online form before arriving, so no paperwork needs to be done the day of. For someone who's uneasy with dental work, I feel very comfortable here! The hygienists I've worked with are all very gentle and thorough with the cleaning. The doctors (I remember one was Dr. Li) were extremely helpful in explaining the condition of my teeth and the next steps. The staff and receptionists were very patient and hospitable to me, particularly during the times when I was late! There were occasions when I got there 15-45 minutes late. Thankfully, the receptionist was communicative and the hygienist was still able to clean my teeth in both of these situations. read more

I do not recommend this clinic at all. The service is very poor; they do not care about the patient and they submit incorrect (inflated) claims to the insurance, which results in unnecessary extra costs. Their priority is not dental health, but making money at the expense of our insurance. read more

This past week I went to Gentle Dental. I can say everyone was very nice and attentive, which I very much appreciate. However... I unfortunately had a filling come out. I ran to the closest dentist to my new apartment in Brookline, so they could take a look a quick look and hopefully fix it. They took some X-rays, and did a little exam. After I was told by Dr. Li that my mouth was basically full of cavities, and I need multiple root canals plus 5 crowns on my teeth. She priced it out and it came out to over $8,000.00 worth of work. I was a first time client and she hits me with that. It was very hard for me to swallow and as a medical professional I trusted her. I thought I took pretty good care of my teeth, I felt really bad about myself thinking that my mouth was basically destroyed at 24 years old. She made it seem like if I didn't come up with 8 grand on the spot that I would loose the majority of my teeth. I talked with my parents and they told me to get a 2nd and 3rd opinion before doing anything. After a week of feeling like garbage about my mouth, I saw 2 other dentists. One that I have been going to for over 10 years that was back on the North Shore and another in Newton, MA. They both told me that my mouth was absolutely fine, I had 2 cavities they wanted to fill but that was pretty much it. They told me I had beautiful teeth and they would've hated to see my teeth get caps because I'm so young and there was no reason for anything that drastic. They also told me this is something that places like Gentle Dental do, and they have heard and seen things like this happening many times before. This was not a slight difference in opinions, which makes me think that places like Gentle Dental are there to meet quotas, and make money, not care for patients. A lot of medical professionals scam people now a days, which really sucks because we trust them. I urge you to not just avoid this office but avoid Gentle Dental all together. DO NOT use Gentle Dental for any dental needs to especially for orthodontic work. It is an absolute scam that they leave many details out of when you go through them for Invisalign treatment. The doctor only comes to the office one Friday of the month so to make an appointment is nearly impossible and they give you little to no alternatives for appointments. On top of this they canceled 2 of my appointments which means that I have to wait an extra month to be seen. A third time I arrive for my appointment that they had rescheduled and the doctor was not even at the clinic!!!!! On the days that I have actually been seen, I've had to wait between 45-1 hour to be brought into a patient room. The communication internally is terrible and one person might tell you one thing and someone else says something opposite. On top of all of this, I signed in writing a 24 month payment plan. My treatment has been 12 months and 2 days before my final appointment they called and said that once my attachments are taken off, I have to pay in FULL. That is a year of payment with 2 days notice. Their solution has been to offer opening a credit card that will pay it off for me with a 17% interest rate. I am completely appalled at the utter lack of patient respect to a signed contract. Whatever you choose, do not use Gentle Dental and their Invisalign program. Can't speak for the dentists here but the front desk seems pretty unprofessional and incompetent. My husband has been going to this office and they have told him they booked an appointment and when he got to the office they hadn't. He took time off from work for it and had to again since he ended up having to book again for a different day. Then, the dentist told the front desk to book him for some procedures and again, they did not book him for half of them. Thinking these might be one off mistakes, I decided to try them out because they had an opening that worked for me. I tell them on the phone several times that I just need a cleaning and when they call to confirm the appointment I confirm that I want to see them for a cleaning. They explained I would have to have a full check up first which is okay with me. They told me they booked 1:30 for the check up and 2 pm for the cleaning. I take time off work, get there and they don't have the cleaning booked. Not only that but during the 2 phone calls BOTH times I told them I had x rays taken this month and I would not like more done. Not once did they mention that I would need to have them sent over, for a cleaning of all things. So they made that into a huge issue too. Any other dentist office I've ever been to has always told me what to have sent over and everything they need beforehand not at the appointment itself. I've never experienced such incompetent service so if you value your time, go somewhere else. There are plenty of good dentists in Boston that have competent staff too. The only reason I even came here was because my dentist couldn't fit me in for a cleaning until the next few months. I'd rather wait that time then book anything here. My husband has also switched dentists because of these reoccurring issues they have. read more

Don't get me wrong, Dr. Li is excellent. In fact, all the staff are wonderful - except the accounting department. I was over charged by $258. Now, nine months later I am still fighting to get my credit back. I keep getting the run around. They keep holding it to use as payment against future appointments. I always pay when my appointment is complete. I have spoken to five different people in the office. All are incapable of handling this issue. I have now gone to the main office - all I get is voice mail. My advice, the dental staff is great, but only pay after they have settled with your insurance company. The office staff has difficulty understanding different types of insurance coverage and, therefore, they over charge you. Once over charged, you NEVER get your money back!!!! read more

So this is the first review I've ever written. I could not have had a more pleasant dentist experience before. I'm getting married in 3 weeks and went in to get a Zoom! Tooth whitening. Dr Sonal Took care of me - she filled in two cavities and even though I'm a total wuss about anything that has to do with teeth, she was so great I didn't feel a thing. She also took the time to chat with me before hand and make me feel super at ease since I was a little nervous ( upcoming wedding and all) . I've got to say, I not only left with a beautiful white smile but felt like I literally made a few friends as well( the nurse there who was an absolute sweetheart even gave me some Chocolate cake since I hadn't had a chance to eat anything before getting my work done!!! Every person I had work on my teeth was gentle and patient. Heather was simply amazing and I appreciate her work so much. I am so happy I finally got the courage to come here. Totally worth it. I have no problem with Dr Ferro or the hygienists, they are great. She has always helped me and fixed my teeth up perfectly! What I can't stand about this particular practice is the ladies at the front desk. They were extremely cold and didn't even greet me with a "hello". When I entered the office and walked in I wanted to check in (you know, say I'm here because there is a big pillar blocking the receptionist and myself in the waiting area), all I got was a stern "yes?" and when I said I wanna check in, let her know I'm here I got a sarcastic "yeah you're here". She then proceeded to ask for my name, and just said I have an outstanding balance (why wasn't I let known prior by phone or mail?) All I'm expecting is to be greeted courteously and asked to wait, and if you are expecting that, go to a different practice. It sure is a pity because the doctors here are great, but the hostility from the secretaries leaves a bad taste in your mouth. read more

1. The receptionist is excessively cheery and very impatient. It is funny to see how any questions that are off the script evaporate this cheerful facade. I asked about an invisilign program and insurance options, and he did not seem concerned about explaining the details about how these programs can be paid or what my treatment options were. Additionally, they were running late and instead of owning it, they acted like it was not thing that 20 minutes from my appointment had elapsed and I was to get over it. 2. The dental hygienist, I believe she is from Armenia is SOOOOOO rough. I could have swore she was aiming to break my teeth. She could see I was visibly uncomfortable in the chair and I kept on thinking when will this be over. Additionally, I am always leery of dental personnel who themselves do not have clean or healthy looking teeth. 3. There is floating dentist that does consultations. He was super unprofessional. He asked me what I did and how old I was. I told him and before I could finish he said something like ' I do not really care, I just am asking because they told me too' the assistant in the patient room laughed instead of taking the high ground or mediating the situation, one that was unncessarily tense because of that statement. 4. They attempt to get you to put a down payment on future services prior to the appointment. In the case another receptionist attempted to convince me that my tooth would 'explode' if I did not set up an appointment. It is safe to say that 5 months later I have had no dental explosions. My prior review for Gentle Dental in Brookline was removed because it "contained inappropriate content." Since I used zero cuss words, and simply explained my truthful (and very poor) experiences at this location, I would be willing to bet that the scummy management at Gentle Dental got the review removed. Fellow Yelpers, please note that I have written 220+ reviews and have over 1,200 Useful votes given to me for my reviews. I don't write fake reviews that are "inappropriate." Just honest ones that some businesses don't like. With that being said, I am pleased to be able to write a 1 star review of this embarrassingly bad dental office that you should avoid. Let me explain why: 1. The team at this location is shady. Not just because I believe that they had an honest (but negative) review removed. Not just because if you go through their "other reviews that are not currently recommended" at the bottom of the Yelp page, you will see some obviously fake planted reviews (F S from Jamaica Plain on 4/13/2014, for example). But because I went into their location for a dental exam, and was told that I had 3 cavities. I did not believe them because I experienced no discomfort, take very good care of my oral hygiene, and have not had a cavity in over 15 years. One month later, I was able to go back to see my usual dentist (I live in California most of the year) and he said he had no idea what Gentle Dental was talking about. 2. The office manager is incredibly rude. She absolutely hates her job. The way that she talks to you when you are asking her questions about your insurance makes you feel like you are a complete fool. She rolled her eyes and sighed out loud when I asked her what my co-pay would be. Apparently I am supposed to have that information memorized. 3. You know how some dentist offices have nice amenities? Like a television for you to watch when you're sitting there, with your mouth wide open, uncomfortable as heck, for an hour? Gentle Dental of Brookline does not have that. However, if you do like an office that smells musty (it is a below ground office location), and has a disgusting bathroom, then this is the dentist's office for you! Please do yourself a favor. If you have Delta Dental insurance like I do, DO NOT CHOOSE Gentle Dental of Brookline. Run away as fast as you can. Oh, and before Matthew S. (Business Owner) replies with his canned "we strive for 100% patient satisfaction" garbage, I can happily share that I have actually emailed feedback@gentledental.com and no one ever bothered to reply to my email. Everyone was very nice to me and did their jobs well. I had a pleasant experience, which isn't what you necessarily think of when you go to the dentist. I was interested in Invisalign, and the dentist was knowledgeable. She took her time with me and answered all of my questions. The person who took my X-rays was named Heather, and she was great. These guys are great - I asked for everyone's name before I left because they all deserve a round of applause! I was a first time patient, and upon calling to make my appointment, I got to a real person immediately who had an opening reasonably in the future. I showed up at the appointment having forgotten my insurance card, but Shawnassy the Office Manager got my info pulled up in no time. I only waited about 5 minutes but during that time I checked out the office, which is nice and clean on the inside. There was good music playing the whole time and the magazine selection is wide for everyone's tastes. The staff are happy, courteous, and knowledgable, it was truly a pleasure. I got called in and had my x-rays taken quickly and professionally (by Yakira?), then immediately got a visit from Dr. Pezzolesi who checked out my teeth (using some very hi tech equipment, I might add). He was very friendly and knowledgable, explaining my situation clearly, without any medical jargon, and seemingly with a lot of experience. Afterwards, my cleaning with Jayne the hygeinist went great - she was gentle and fast and it was over in a heartbeat. The only thing that could have made this visit better was that their goodie bag at the end only had a toothbrush and floss, no toothpaste, but I can buy my own toothpaste - I can't easily find this level of service and professionalism. Seriously a scam. Went in to GD because of their new patient special and because it had been over a year since I'd seen a dentist because of college. Upon examination dentist told me I had 13 cavities, 4 in my upper right section alone. Fillings would total over $1300. I hadn't had any symptoms of cavities, virtually 0 pain, so I sought a second opinion. The other dentist found 0 cavities, and even looked at the exact same X-rays I had taken at GD. She could not believe that a GD dentist had claimed 13 cavities because she herself saw normal dental anatomy, as I myself had suspected. Thank god I did not proceed with cavity fillings at GD. They are a sketchy business that is probably liable for malpractice. Avoided major pain and financial toil by seeking a second opinion-- you should too. Avoid at all costs Plus, the X-rays they took might have been the most painful dental experience of my life, and they're not great quality. My X-ray technician had some sort of cold and was sniffling all over the place... Gross atmosphere and totally unpleasant experience. 13 cavities is a total farce. If there weren't any holes to fill, my question is what they would have been filling at my appointment. I shudder at the thought. I went in yesterday and saw some great changes. I have been a patient here for about 8 years, and I was more impressed today than ever. First, the new office manager is incredibly professional, and takes her work seriously. The last time I was in, I had to listen to the assistants gossip and chat behind the desk at top volume while I had my teeth cleaned. This time, I was able to talk to Yelena and enjoyed the quiet. Yelena is still the best hygienist ever, and I actually look forward to having her clean my teeth. There have been some technical upgrades as well. The X-rays are going digital and my dentist was able to take digital photographs of my molars to show me the hairline fractures there (that's for another day) Finally, a new dentist! Dr. V is awesome, and told me more about my teeth than any other dentist. The real deal-maker was when he said, "Are you happy with your teeth?" All other dentists have said things like, "Would you be interested in whitening," or "How about we close that gap." Dr. V listened to my concerns and was very friendly and comforting. Yay! read more

I really want to rate this place 3.5. Firstly, I got a Groupon here for $28 for xrays, exam and a cleaning (...being an adult is lame...) It's $57 for new patients without a Groupon. The office is right off the St Mary stop on the C line. When I called, they fit me in within two weeks. They have weekend and evening hours which is a bonus. But it does take awhile to get an appointment. When I came in, I got xrays and Dr. Pezzolesii was really friendly and personable. Then I was told I need to make my follow up appointment for my cleaning.... what? Apparently, with the groupon you have to have 2 separate visits...that knocked a star off right there. But, when I did go back, Nicole (dental hygienist) cleaned my chomps and was also very pleasant. read more

My wife and I moved to Boston last year, and as a result, we needed to change dentists. Based on our location and dental insurance, we chose Gentle Dental in Brookline. After a quick, pleasant phone call to the dental office, we consultation appointments only a few weeks out. The first appointments went great! The dental hygienists were professional, knowledgeable, and very funny. The consultation was *very* in-depth. Dr. Georgios Vessiropoulos went through the treatment plan (some fillings and removal of wisdom teeth) and educated in the basics of dentistry, explaining everything very clearly. He really made a connection to his patient, and that goes a long way. After the consultation, we women at the front desk were quick to record the information and schedule our cleaning appointments (only 1 week out). They were familiar with our dental insurance and the billing process was very smooth. Our cleaning appointments were handled by Yelena. She was very gentle while working around my (tender) gums, and did a great job cleaning (for both of us). Finally, I had a couple fillings the other day. The experience was surprisingly good. Dr. V. was gentle and gave me enough local anesthetic to numb the areas completely, but not too much to numb my entire mouth. The process was painless and very well done (my teeth feel great). The dentist and his assistant worked very well together. There was no fumbling for instruments, everything was fluid and well organized. While I can't say I look forward to my next filling, I know I'll be in great hands! Unlike most dental offices I've been to, all of our appointments have (so far) been on time. I'm sure this won't always be the case, but it is appreciated! After reading some other Yelp reviews, it seems that there is (was?) a high turnover rate for dentists and hygienists? Do not go here- super unprofessional. Front desk is gathering space for all the employees who talk loudly about personal issues throughout your long wait to be seen, and then can be heard from the examination rooms. There is a $25 fee to have your records sent to a new provider. Every time you call you will be put on hold for at least 8 minutes, and possibly forgotten about. The dentist I was supposed to see never showed up after a 30 minute wait so they sent in another dentist without explanation. I did not find her recommendations helpful. read more

I am compelled to recommend this office because of Yelena, who has been cleaning my teeth four times per year for the past 10 years. She is exceptional - professional, thorough, gentle and diligent. I have had other dentists I know look at my teeth and tell me that they are in beautiful shape and they are impressed at how healthy my gums and teeth are. The office staff is always professional and friendly, and there is ample street parking at this location. I only see the dentist once per year for a quick look, and they have all been wonderful. The staff was very friendly and although the appointment was somewhat briefer than I expected, it was thorough, so that was a good thing. My son was given an indepth tutorial on brushing and the importance of it in a more clear and informative way by the hygenist than I have never heard any dentist explain at any other office we have been to. The staff here came through for me when I really needed it. I was having a terrible experience at another Gentle Dental location; I was treated rudely and would not be seen in a timely fashion despite being in pain. I ended up calling Gentle Dental Brookline out of desperation, even though I figured it was a long shot and had no idea if my insurance would permit me just switching locations. Juan picked up the phone and my nightmare ended: he listened to my story and right away got to work finding a way to schedule me in for an emergency appointment that very day. Moreover, he helped make sure that my insurance would cover the visit and took care of getting my records transferred. He was kind, funny, knowledgeable, and a very much-needed source of comfort and optimism after my totally miserable experience at another office. For that first emergency visit, I found myself in the care of Dr. Virwani, who, despite the fact that I got squeezed into her schedule at the last minute, really took the time to sit and listen to my concerns, answer my questions, and fully explain her treatment recommendations. She was respectful and knowledgeable, and did an excellent job of calming my anxiety. I am happy to now be her patient permanently; she is careful, skilled at her work, and makes absolute sure that I feel no pain when receiving a filling. Thanks to her and Juan, I am no longer anxious about getting dental work done! Based on my experience, it is so clear that they care for both the physical and emotional well-being of the patients that come through this office. Thank you!!! read more

DO NOT go to this place!!! This place is a SCAM!!! I had a severe pain my teeth and I needed to see a doctor ASAP I called GD in Thursday spoke to someone and confirmed with them that my insurance will be honored and work and cover their clinic after they checked and confirmed my insurance is fine I schedule an appointment, a few days later when I arrived to my appointment the office manager said that my insurance is not covered and I will need to pay $130 do I told him that I called and confirmed in Thursday that my insurance is covered to my surprise he said that the knew since Thursday that Im not covered!!! They never even bothered to call me or email to notify me and made me wast half a day and wait to my appointment only to find out that they want to get $130 to see the doctor which I don't need to pay since I have my insurance to pay for that the office manager was rude and gave me attitude and didn't even offer me an apology a which is a basic of the basic customer service!!!! If they knew that on Thursday that my insurance Is not covered in Thursday they could have notified me and I could schedule appointment somewhere ells but no they wanted to get money out of me so they didn't notify that ill come to my appointment and have no choice to pay in order to see the Doctor since it was an emergency. Bottom line this place have no respect for customers and all they care about is get money out of you Be Aware!! read more

Unfortunate, at best. My first run-in with Gentle Dental was about two years ago when I had a crown put in. The fit was fine, I think, but unfortunately the crown cracked after less than one month. Should have been a red enough flag for me to take my business elsewhere at that point, but I subsequently returned for additional work. The dentist himself is nice enough, but extremely hurried. Wham bam, thank you maam style service. Not a fan, and the quality of work is not very good in my opinion. I am left with rough surfaces around where fillings were put in and my teeth do not close as they did before I had the work done. After my last visit to Gentle Dental in Brookline, I paid a hefty bill for work that needed to be done. I did have insurance and the office manager, Shaunessey, assured me that my out of pocket expenses were in line with the amount insurance was covering, and further assured me that after I left the office and paid the out of pocket expenses, my bill would be settled; I paid up. 2-3 months later, I received a bill in the mail requesting additional payment. I called to inquire as to the reason for the bill, explaining the situation, but before I could finish speaking Shaunessey cut me off with "negative, that's incorrect". That was enough for me, I will move on and find a better dentist (with hopefully a better office manager). Save yourself some trouble, head to one of the many other dentists in Brookline and don't waste your time at this place. read more

I have had a few procedures here. Dr. Dassa is thorough and seems to enjoy his job! Most importantly, he is very conscientious, willing to spend extra time and effort to get things exactly right. When I called in saying that my bite did not feel right after a temporary crown was put in, he revised it without any fuss. His assistant Aimee is also wonderful - professional and patient. The front desk seems to know everyone by name. Juan in particular was able to navigate a hiccup with my insurance company promptly and coolly, and has worked with me to get me appointments that work with my unpredictable school/work schedule. read more
