Awful, do not go there. I arrived 5 min. before the appt. went up to the reception desk, the lady told me sit down, will call me up later. 16 min. Later, called up to the reception desk. The lady wanted insurance, id , referral ,x-rays etc. I had e mailed the x rays & brought copies of referrals over a week before the appt. Then she wanted payment, gave her the care credit card. She tried to provide payment, stated it did not work. I told her there is $3800 on the card. She had the other lady at the reception put the card in & it worked. Then I sat down it was 45 min. Before I was called into the dental room. By this time, it was 1 hour 30 min. Now while in the chair, the dental hygenist states the teeth 24 & 25, which is incorrect, the number teeth is 21 & 22. Then dr. Arrived, talking to me behind my back , i Asked to make sure is the correct dr. As I need a periodonist, the response yes I have been doing this for 37 years. I still not see his face as he standing behind me, I am looking at blue wall. It was 5 mInutes Before I see his face. He looks at cyst, he states that he can not do it as this not his expertise. will be referred to a dental surgeon.it was 1 hour @ 45 minutes.from the time arrived to the time I left ., a waste of time read more

These people are rude as hell. I've been coming here a couple times for my mom. The ladies who want to work, the front desk are strung out and really don't know what they're doing. STAY AWAY!!! They took advantage of senior citizens for whom English is a second language. My elderly parents enrolled in DeltaUSA plan, and didn't realized they were assigned another dentist as their primary care. They made an appointment with Gentle Dental Hayward, who should have verified if they were the PCP before doing any procedure. Instead, they either failed to verify or willfully ignored it, and proceeded with treatment, and charged them over $1K out of pocket, for routine procedures that would've been mostly covered by Delta insurance. I've made multiple attempts to contact them to discuss a resolution and they never returned my call, and held my father's X-ray images as hostage. SIMPLY THE WORST!! read more

If I could give negative stars I would. Please be aware that this business is a SCAM. And they will hold your services hostage until you pay them more money. My last visit I paid everything in full and when I came back for a much needed exam, the hygienist stopped mid service (pulling my hair because she was in such a rush) and a manager came to tell me I owed an additional 500+ that needed to be paid on the spot. Makayla, the girl that works the front when the orthodontist is there is amazing. She's always nice. She always helps me. she value everyone she always has a positive attitude no matter what that's one thing I've noticed every time I've come here with my daughter. This place is amazing for orthodontic work. On other hand I tried to take my daughter for a cleaning and they try to scam me with a $500 treatment plan for a preventative cleaning for my daughter. Avoid at all costs! This was by far the worst dental experience I've ever had. The facility is not well maintained and very dirty. I waited for over an hour, only to be told the doctor would "call me" instead. Seriously? How is that even acceptable? Completely unprofessional and feels like a scam operation trying to squeeze as much money as possible from insurance and individuals. They are mostly targeting poor old people. I arrived for my appointment at 3:30 p.m. after receiving a confirmation text message this morning. The office was dark and the front door locked. I called the office multiple times and my call was sent to voicemail. I've had the appointment booked for weeks and left work early to try and get a broken tooth fixed. It is unprofessional to confirm an appointment with a client for a time when the office is apparently closed. The hours on Google state the office should still be open and my appointment was confirmed for 3:30 p.m. so I am left confused, frustrated, and annoyed. This place is horrible!!What started as a simple tooth extraction with local anesthesia turned into a medical emergency soon after!my loved one went in for the minor procedure and when I picked them up they were weak and extremely dizzy and almost fainted I had to call 911 to take them to emergency,mind you the appointment was at 11am and this ongoing symptom turned into an over night stay in the hospital for my loved one,they felt extremely dizzy,weak,faint,can barely walk or speak. I called the emergency after hour number they provided on the after care paper and the phone number went straight to voicemail so I went back to the dentist office to speak to them directly so I can let the paramedics/doctors know what type of anesthetic they used on them and they were closed!! The door said they closed at 3 and I showed up at 2:00! Avoid this Gentle Dental office. I am sad to write this as I liked the dentist, hygienist and a dental assistant I met there. Their office staff are, knowingly or not, breaking the law in refusing to provide copies of my records in order for me to share with the dentist I am choosing to give my business to instead of Gentle Dental. Gentle Dental also upcharges their patients significantly (i.e., in my case, they used a wrong billing code), because maybe they don't like the insurance reimbursements, or they don't have a trained billing manager, and I refuse to do any further business with them. I lost a filling in one of my front teeth. It chipped , I made an appointment and went in. I registered and asked for what the charge will be to put a temporary filling on that day. She told me it was 121. They did exrays I went to the front desk. They told me I had to it down half the cost of the procedure. $980.00 the charge was over 2000.00 all together. I had to commit to have all the work done for the tooth in that office only and I had to pay before . After being yelled at by the office manager for 20 mins she was essentially forcing me to pay 980. Before they would even put a temporary filling That office has an office manager that doesn't belong working. It was going to be my first time here and a day before the appointment they said I had to reschedule my appointment to an earlier time so I agreed. On the actual day of appointment they wanted another reschedule and I couldn't. Also, They said my insurance only covers for x-rays every 5 years so it won't cover the cost for the visit. And that's a straight up lie because I have changed dentist quite a few times within the last 5 years and they have covered for it every single time. At first they wanted to charge me $91 and when I brought up my insurance is suppose to cover for it, they said they were able to lower the price to $79???? That's pretty sketch to me. Dr. Watanabe is truly a gentle dentist. He was the only thing that I appreciated during my experience. Other than my treatment, I have serious concerns about the customer service. I was referred out to a specialist for a root canal since they don't perform this type of treatment. I guess gone are the days where the dentist performs all the procedures. About 4-5 days before my scheduled root canal with a specialist, I acquired excruciating pain. It was a Saturday so I called the emergency dentist at Gentle Dental. I just needed something for the pain to carry me through to my root canal appointment. After leaving multiple messages at the number provided to me, no one returned my calls from Gentle Dental. Desperate, I drove to the nearest dentist that was open and had them help me. I was given antibiotics and pain meds which helped me greatly. After my root canal procedure I was to go back to Dr. Watanabe for the permanent crown. I explained the trauma and pain I experienced due to the lack of response from the Gentle Dental team. They acted as if it wasn't their problem and they could have cared less. I soon realized they were just too busy for me (Dr. Watanabe was treating me and another patient at the same time, going back and forth between rooms) Looking around I also noticed this facility wasn't the most maintained. I wouldn't suggest this dental service. I went to both Sunnyvale location and Hayward . I didn't have the best experience. The extra cost they try to add on your for minor things. They double book me and said I was early when I got appointment notification for 8 not 10. They want me pay more money on top of what was already told I needed. I came for pain in my tooth. I just didn't like my experience at all. I also feel like the dentist it self has dentist who are only able to do something where they will give you a referral form. The communication is very poor and they had technical issues when I was present. The environment as well didn't feel welcoming. I had way better experience for my normal dentist I go to on a regular. It was the other day 4/20/24 I was numbed with a couple of injections thinking I was going to get my wisdom tooth pulled out & was told AFTER I got my injections that they were not going to move forward with the procedure & I had to wait another 2 weeks for a specialist to do it. I really wish they would have WAITED to inject & numb me. I was so damn upset I left the place cryin with my face numb without any work done. Which isn't the point I just wish the specialist was spoken to BEFORE the dentist had injected me and clarifying things before hand. If you guys know that injection is PAINFUL & I got it for nothing. I was so upset the receptionists tried to get me to sit down but I just said no I'm leaving and walked out in tears because I couldn't believe what had happened. Do no harm to your patience. 4 stars for the actual dental work the doctor was fast and efficient. She squeezed me in when there was a cancelation and she provided sincere dental advise that I appreciated. She didn't try to upsale me on things I didn't need and she was transparent. She let me know what was not her scope of practice which cosmetic procedures were not recommended. 2 starts for their business... so their staff hands me a treatment bill with a variety of fees.. and I was paying for some of my treatment out of pocket not with insurance. They didn't explain anything which lead me to make up my mind im not paying $500 or coming back for a follow up appointment because I have no idea why you are charging me these ridiculous amounts for procedures that looked repetitive I highly suggest distinguishing the price, co pay, and what portion is covered by insurance. When I asked why their quoted price differed from my insurance the staff literally shrugged and said that what we got from the insurance company. I tried to explain that was not what my benefit review stated. They didn't care or offer to help which resulted in them getting no extra money from me. I would have been willing to pay for the services but I needed to know where these prices were coming from . They seemed quick to charge what ever they want. Good thing I called ahead of time and was quoted prices so I was able to get an adjustment on some of the fees. Please don't take your children here. The receptionist does not know how to verify appointments. I received a call from one yesterday. She said the appointment was for me. She check and say I'm not due for a cleaning until May. I let her know I'll call back and reschedule. I then asked her is she sure the appointment is not for my children. She said she would check and said no. I also told her I am unable to leave work and show up to any appointments if there is any and to please cancel the appointment. Fast forward to today. Her manager called me telling me off. Saying the doctor is removing my children for her care. I told her that was perfectly fine. If that is how they want to run their practice then so be it. However her receptionist needs to be retrained. As I provided sufficient amount of information to her to know that if there was an appointment she should have known to cancel it as that is what I requested. This was the worst dentist I've ever gone to. The receptionist Alisa is very unprofessional. She has no integrity. She lied to me and told me my insurance didn't cover a deep cleaning. Alisa told me the only way they could deep clean my teeth was with a laser. She lied so the dentist could make a profit. Now my teeth are sensitive to hot and cold. I moved from Mississippi 10 years ago, I had high expectations for a dentist so I had a very hard time finding a dentist in California that I would be comfortable/satisfied with the first few years here. After seeing Dr.Watanabe back in 2018, I knew I wouldn't be going anywhere else. He is very gentle and great at communicating. AVOID this place. My family had been going here For several years but no more. I have left several phone messages over the past 2-3 weeks with no response. My daughter has double dental coverage from both parents, and I found out this office has been charging my debit card FULL FEE CASH at time of service for over a year now. Most recently for a CLEANING that was covered by not one, but BOTH of our insurance plans. They also upsold unnecessary items during the cleaning to a young adult and did not bother billing the insurance companies for the last several visits since it was easier for them to charge my FSA card that I sent with her for the deductible without taking the contractual Adjustments and are now refusing to back bill for all the visits that were never billed. I will be reporting this practice to both of my insurance companies that they are contracted with since I have given them almost a month to return my phone calls. . Absolute worst dentist experience I've ever had. I should've taken the fact that they Never answer the phone or respond to voicemails as a sign. The business name is a flat out lie. Dr. S was rough, rushed, and defensive when I gave any feedback. This is the 1 time I've ever cried at the dentist in my 40 years of deep cleanings & root canals & crowns. She could not be bothered to wait for my mouth to get numb and called me sensitive (in a derisive way) for complaining about pain. She refused to grind down a rough edge on a filling that was cutting into my tongue. She insisted that I was wrong for asking. Horrible. Seems like they over charge.they are rude, my son came in for dental work, when called I followed him, the dental assistant turned and asked if I he any questions in a rude way. I've always been allowed to sit in the room with my child under the age of 12. I had to go sit in the front. My other child got braces that was horrible experience.
