Charged $2000+ for a crown and it already needs to be replaced in less than a year for it not being seated and sealed properly. I have been terrified of dentists my entire life. I'm in my 60's now, & nearly every dental experience throughout my life has been anywhere between scary and downright torture. I have been up sold so many times just to have work that didn't hold up, so I wasn't going to go again....until I broke a tooth all the way to the bone. I chose Gentle Dental in their name alone and it was the best choice I ever made. The whole staff are so kind, understand my fears, & have done everything they can to help me. Dr. Wachter has a lot of work to do to get me through everything that needs to be done, but he's NOT in any way up selling me, and had gone out of his way to be kind to me, and to make sure I'm not in pain, and that I understand everything that is being done, and why, including pricing. I recently moved to Prescott and needed a dentist that would take my insurance. Gentle Dental was the closest to us, so I took a chance and signed up. I was very pleased with the office. The dentist was very kind and helpful, recommending a fluoride rinse which I now use. On my second appointment, Lori was my hygienist and cleaned my teeth. She is great! Not only does she clean teeth, she educates you about them. She has a great sense of humor. I liked everyone on the staff. I am happy I found this dentist. read more

Been a Gentle Dental since covid broke out. Had a tooth pulled and a couple of teeth cleanings on previous visits. The last time I went for a cleaning I had insurance and was asked to pay an additional $106, after the work was completed, then a couple of weeks later Gentle Dental asked for another $51 as my insurance didn't cover the cleaning. I thought how can teeth cleaning be that expensive Last week I went for another cleaning and made the point, when filling out the required treatment form, the that I just wanted my teeth cleaned, NO EXTRAS, I only wanted what was covered by my insurance . The estimate came back, before having the treatment, that I had to pay another $106 I said I just want the clean, NOTHING ELSE. They struck off 2 items but left one one item on for 30 something $'s I said again that I did not want this additional service charge and called for the manager. She told me that I had to have to pay for this aspect of the cleaning otherwise the Hygienist and the practice would lose their license. What a crock statement that was.... I decided to not have my teeth cleaned at that time This was a bit like going to a car wash, where to bump the price up they add on things like "a super wash" "a special wheel scrub" etc etc At least at the carwash the customer can deny any unwanted additional things At Gentle Dental that is not the case, they just want your money....... I will not be going back to Gentle Dental and if you are one of their lucky customers, make sure you check the estimate out before starting any procedures there. My wife and I have been patients of this office for 8 years. In the most recent several years staff turnover has been a nightmare. Our dental cleaning appointments have been rescheduled 3 times with each new appointment being put off for 2 or more months. No one tracks how many changes or delays occur. Today I came in as a new patient to Gentle Dental. I always have some hesitation when it comes dentists. However, today I was pleasantly surprised! I was greeted with kind and joyful staff. Dr/DMD. Benjamin Wachter and his assistant Dre, made sure I was comfortable and took the time to explain everything beforehand so I knew what to expect. He even recommended seeing their new oral surgeon to remove my wisdom teeth to ensure the long term health of my teeth. Was connected to after hours answering service and was told dentists do not prescribe pain medication over the weekend. Needed a new denture, wife had insurance...went in, some out of town dentist makes a mold says come back. I did. Different dentist: Dr Anthony Nowak (another out of town dentist). He hands me a badly coloured denture which I put in my mouth - it didn't work. So after examining it, he says there's no way to make it fit, we'll make you a new one. Long story short, even though everyone in the office when i paid was a witness that I paid in full (cash plus insurance) and both dentists, when i went back today for my 7:45 appointment the very nasty well-practiced lady at the front counter said I can't even TALK to the dentist until I give them $1000 cash upfront! Just to talk to the guy!!! And they refused to give me the denture back I already paid for. AVOID LIKE PLAGUE!!! She denied I had even seen Dr. Anthony Nowak. They really made my day bad and the thing is I could have gone anywhere! Now I get no denture. BTW they refuse to tell me the name of the male dentist who I saw. I assume it was Anthony Nowak, but I could be wrong. I believe they should have been honest to me. Super sorry for the choice and hope I am able to save someone from having to go through this grief! Dentist was totally rude to me. He told me if I didn't get x-rays, I could not ever come back again and that there was no refund for the insurance or discount program which I still had 6 months to use. He said "It didn't cost you much." ($65) I've been going to this location about 12 years. I have been able to make my own choices about what care (including x-rays) I receive. I told him as a patient, I have rights and have the right to say no. He told me I was no longer a patient there. Fortunately, his staff treated me with huge respect. read more

Grown woman, I have been going to the dentist since I was 6 or so. First time I have ever cried because of a visit. I'm a sensitive soul but my mouth isn't usually. Dental assistant was very rough pulling my mouth out of the way. My cheeks were sore afterwards, just with that alone. Both the dentist and assistant seemed to be frazzled, unorganized, unprepared, and definitely unprofessional. I did not feel safe or well taken care of. I went to get some old filling retouched. I have been going to Gentle Dental Prescott for several years. There has been some turnover in staffing, but each new staff member is as good or better than the previous one. I saw a new hygienist today and cannot say enough times how fabulous she is! She is skilled and knowledgeable, as well as being personable and gentle. She used the newer techniques and equipment and my teeth have not felt this clean in a long time. Mercedes answered the questions I had and explained everything she was doing. I made an appointment for 3 procedures and they did a 4th one that I did not approve (t was all done in one shot so I had no idea they were doing it.) They are now charging me for the procedure (they didn't make me pay at the office when I argued, just sent me a bill.) Also, they told me my bill was up to date after my initial appointment. My husband then went for an initial appointment (same insurance) and afterwards they told us that both of us owed. They made a mistake with our premium when they charged me but my husband would have never went if he had known the amount that was added. The billing staff is really nice but haven't gotten anywhere dealing with mistakes. I will definitely be changing dentist once this is all taken care of! read more

This office has definitely gone downhill since Gentle Dental took over from An Elegant Smile. I've seen two dentists there -- one seemed professional and knowledgable; the other wasn't unprofessional but he was, in my opinion, overly casual, said some odd things, and didn't inspire confidence. And the absence of continuity of care (ie having one dentist you trust and always see) contributes to the feeling of lack of concern about you as an individual. What really created that perception for me, however, is the two cancellation calls I've received at the last minute (out of maybe four appointments). They don't call back to make sure you get in to see the dentist; they just seem concerned with clearing the calendar that day. I was a very satisfied patient of Gentle Dental's predecessor, An Elegant Smile, for more than a decade -- they actually made going to the dentist a pleasant experience and seemed to have your well-being as their main concern. I originally posted a very positive review of Gentle Dental after my first visit -- that was largely due to the exceptional technician, who I later learned left the practice shortly thereafter. I also liked the first dentist I saw but haven't seen her since... because reception cancelled me again. I will be seeking a new dentist going forward. read more

My wife and I were looking for a dentist and decided to try and sign up our family with Gental Dental. I came in for a exam and cleaning. I went first and had X rays and a exam. I was told I was on the verge of gum disease and needed a deep cleaning. The good news was I had no cavities. I went in for the first of 3 cleanings. Two deep and one standard. My insurance took a good portion of the bill while I paid the rest out of pocket. I did the first deep cleaning which took all of 20 minutes. I was surprised by this. The second deep cleaning my doctor had to miss work and they set me up with another. OK fine. The second cleaning was even quicker and when I saw the X-rays. There was hardly and plaque in the first place. I felt like I was taken advantage of and rushed. I paid the $280 bill this visit for all three cleanings. I had an appointment last Friday and they called to reschedule as the doctor would be out again. I rescheduled and came back in this morning. My concern was I going to be rushed again. My last clean was month ago. This morning I was told insurance screwed up and I had to pay another $80 out of pocket after I paid the $280. Insurance screwed up?? They tell me this while I'm sitting in the procedure chair waiting for my cleaning! Something was not right and I don't believe it was the insurance company. I got home and immediately checked my coverage. I have never felt so taken advantage in a medical setting in my life. If I owed more I should have been told on the second visit when I paid or at least a phone call before I came in and got blind sided. I got up and left without having anything done. I told them I had paid and was not paying another cent. The financial person could have cared less. I paid for three cleanings and only got two. I was completely ripped off. My family and I will never go back there again. read more

Steer clear of this office . They run their business when ever they want to work. They have no respect for their patients. I was set up for a cleaning 3 times and was canceled all 3 times . Then the office person said she would call me to reschedule and I never heard back from them. Obviously they don't want my family and my business. I called them to find out why I haven't received a call for a reschedule and the lady said I don't know but if your not happy you can pick up your medical records and go to another dentist. I concur with previous reviewers, that An Elegant Smile was pleasant and professional. I have had nothing but problems since the change-over. My problems include: 1) VERY frequent turnover of staff 2) Newly minted dentists making rookie mistakes, ON MY TEETH!, 3) inability to make refunds when I was overcharged, 4) long waiting times when I arrived ON TIME 5) the constant feeling that the office only sees dollar signs when they look at me, and 6) the most recent problem: an insulting characterization of my dental hygiene when making an appeal for payment from my dental insurance provider. After one of my teeth cracked, I went in for a repair and was told I needed to pull all my teeth and get dentures. The dentist convinced me this was inevitable and should go through with this procedure. I reluctantly agreed. Once I arrived for that appointment they advise me they don't offer sedatives and the only gas available was being used on someone else. I finally heard the patient next door finish with the gas, but I had to suggest they now bring it over to me. They pulled all my teeth. offered financing through credit care at 26% interest. After two years I am still paying that bill. I currently cannot eat nuts, chew meat, eat lettuce, raw vegetables for fruit or anything that would be chewed. I don't go to restaurants because I am so embarrassed and unable eat the food without cutting it into very small pieces. The food has no flavor because the upper palate for the dentures is plastic. I have become a recluse, and directly after the teeth were pulled I advised the dentist I was depressed to the extent that I considered suicide and the dentist replied that it was a common feeling and dismissed it. I had to visit my physician for anti anxiety medicine to help. Their dentists turn over at an incredible rate. read more

This office does not deserve 1 star. I had to give them 1 star to post this review. My adult son went in for a check up. He was told that the 2 Gold crowns that he had done at that office in Prescott the previous year had not been seated correctly and they would need to be redone. He was also told that his 4 upper front teeth would need to have Porcelain crowns. Even though he had a Full Mouth Series of x-rays taken right before all the work they did the previous year they took a Panoramic X-ray and charged him for it. So he thought about it and went in to schedule the 2 Gold Crowns to be redone and they told him that unless he had the 4 Porcelain crowns done they couldn't do the 2 Gold crowns. He asked for a treatment plan, which they gave him but he noticed it didn't have the Gold crowns on it. He wanted to have written documentation that they would do the Gold crowns at no cost to him. When he questioned the discrepancy they told him the Gold crowns had not been approved yet. We later found out that the current Dentist that saw my son had no obligation to redo the work of the previous Dentist, who was no longer there, at no charge. They have gone through at least a 1/2 a dozen Dentists in the last couple of years. My son when to Prescott Dentistry for a 2nd opinion. They are Holistic Dentists who are not contracted with any insurance company. First the only thing adverse thing that they could find with my son's four upper front teeth was some staining. After they cleaned his teeth the stains were gone. This is the foremost reason that I am writing this review. To think that healthy tooth structure would have been removed, the cost involved, the anxiety that my son goes through when he is in a dental office makes me want to WARN everyone that will listen as to what is going on at the Gentle Dental office in Prescott. I was told that Gentle Dental is a corporation and every morning they have staff meetings where they focus on the topic of production, specifically ways that they can boost the production that they have scheduled that day. I asked a Dental Assistant at Prescott Dentistry what their production goals for their office was and she asked me what that was. I said, you know, what the office has scheduled to bring in that day as far as monetarily. She said, "Oh, I have no idea. I have worked here for 15 years and I have never heard about 'production goals' or how much money the office brings in each day". As far as the Gold crowns that needed to be redone, the Dentist at Prescott Dentistry did agree the crowns had been seated improperly but because of the design of the crowns they had gone below the gumline and was causing bone loss. My son had 6 millimeter pockets instead of normal 0 to 3 millimeter pockets between those 2 teeth. This dentist told him that if he re-did the 2 Gold crowns it would just make the problem worse. Instead, he recommended using a topical, in office, application of Sodium Diamine Fluoride in that area only, which would stop any decay, and in fact, make the enamel stronger than before to prevent future decay from happening. Now after reading this, you decide. Would you like to go to an office that sees you as a production number and is willing to unethically do things to increase that number or would you rather go to a Dentist who really wants to do what is best for your dental health? I would even go so far as to say stay away from ALL Corporate Dental Offices! read more

I used Gentle Dental before the name change for cleanings and had good luck. Also had two cleanings and a wisdom tooth extraction after the name change and they were okay. However, when I went in for my last cleaning two weeks ago my hygienist found that two of my teeth needed a deeper clean, their measurement was a number 8. The dentist came in and said the hygienist would just polish my teeth and do the full cleaning when they did the deeper cleaning on the other two teeth at a charge of nearly $600.00. However they billed my insurance for $54.00 for a periodontal check. My insurance company won't pay it so the bill came to me. When I questioned them about it they said even if you didn't get your teeth cleaned you have to pay (with an attitude). Won't be going back. read more

The Dentist made a partial that is painful and ignored my request to place the silver guard closer to my gum line so it's in the middle of the foundation tooth and looks unprofessional. Had a similar experience with commenter of 5/20/17.Went to Gental Dental for cleaning and exam in May. They referred me to a Endodontist for a root canal. When it was done the Endondontist office told me to make an appt. as soon as possible for a permanent crown with Gental Dental. When I went to their office they would not give me an appointment and said they would call. ???? They never did . Had to go to another dentist because time is an important factor. read more
