First time back here in years and. My dad and I both got poached eggs on "homemade" hash. Potatoes and over saltiness gave away the fact that it was maybe 80% homemade 20% canned. Weird. Eggs could have been pulled sooner, one was cooked solid, the other barely runny. At $9+ plus for a side of hash seems a bit high. 2 breakfasts with coffee was $32.00 plus tip. Sigh..... lol. We came in for breakfast expecting diner food and that's exactly what we got. It was good experience and the food was pretty good but nothing extraordinary or creative - which isn't necessarily a bad thing. The staff were all friendly and if you're looking for a place to play the lotto, they've got it! I got steak and eggs with home fries and an English muffin. It was all slightly greasier than I wanted and the steak lacked a little bit of flavor - once I added a heavy shake of salt and pepper I was content. I was a bit surprised by the steak not being a star since they have three separate meals that come with it. The home fries are delicious! My partner and I got a banana pancake to split and it was fluffy and buttery- probably our favorite part. Lastly, the only sign on the outside of the building I saw just says "restaurant", which made us uncertain if we were at the intended restaurant but also made me chuckle. Fast, friendly and delicious. We came in for a late breakfast and the service was fast, the food was hot and everything was tasty. They regularly checked on us to make sure that our drinks were full and we had all the condiments we needed. I had the farmers plate, we also had burgers and wings and cheeseburger club. We love the fries. They were hot and crispy. Parking was easy and free, restaurant was clean. Coffee was really good. We will be back. read more

It was a standard diner look and feel inside in this spot hidden away in Chepachet. We stopped by after reading a review on FB about their wieners (or gaggers, as we so affectionately call them in RI). You have to get them "all the way". We sat at the bar/counter. They have a fairly full bar set up, including Keno. Our choice in seating ended up being one of our mistakes. As we were waiting for our gaggers to arrive, we noticed that in the kitchen, where we had a clear view, a cook was preparing a couple gaggers in their gloveless hands. Sigh. While some may argue a little bit of arm sweat is a traditional topping on a gagger, I admit it made us lose our appetites a bit. Nevertheless, we ate them when they appeared in front of us. The taste was good. The buns were nicely steamed and the dog had a nice bite to it. Overall, the flavor was lacking something (don't say sweat, people). In our mission to find the tastiest wieners in RI, I'd say this lands around 3rd place, tied with many other local spots. I will never seek this place out and considering it is all the way in Chepachet, chances are I'll never stop in again. No complaints about service. Friendly and quick. read more

If you are in NW Rhode Island then this is a place you might want to visit for breakfast or lunch. This spot has been in place since I was a kid although known by another name. Breakfast menu is varied and is freshly prepared as well as lunch. I especially like to go there on Friday for lunch when I visit family. Chowdah and Cakes are delicious. This a no frills restaurant, staff members are pleasant and courteous. Try this spot. You will like some old fashioned NE cooking. read more

Gentleman Farmer is a place I've been coming from what I was in high school At Ponaganset back in the 90s. This isn't a 5-star establishment, maybe 4, but because of the nostalgia. As a senior at Ponaganset, my brother, best friend and I would come here after school every day. Today I live in Providence and not Glocester so I don't get here as much. Usually on a Saturday or Sunday morning for breakfast and they're still doing it right. Don't come expecting anything fancy at all, it's a diner. The home fries (which I use as a benchmark for any diner) are fantastic! They have great breakfast meals, and they have interesting specials from time to time. A great diner / family restaurant in northern Rhode Island. Definitely worth doing by on your way from Boston to NYC or if you happen to be in the area. The clan strips were battered and fried perfectly, light and crispy. Pot roast was fall apart tender. The fried chicken we do crunchy on the outside and most and juicy on the inside. If you're visiting Chepachet (great for antiquing) you'll definitely want to fuel up at this little diner on your way into the village, where there is not much else in the way of sit-down family dining. The waitress was very friendly and accommodating to our kiddo, service was on the slower side, but the food was worth the wait and we were not in a rush so we were satisfied. We went here for the first time for breakfast a few weeks ago. We live pretty close by, and we will definately come back! We want to try dinner. I had the Irish benny, with home made corned beef and home fries. My husband had the vegetable cheese omelet with home fries. Everything was delicious and portions generous. Love that they have a bar, I had a yummy bloody mary. Our waiter was perfect, attentive, but not in the way. The staff were working very hard, but kept positive attitudes. Reasonably priced as well. You have to love this place. It has an old-time feel to it, but what exactly it is, is hard to explain. Its a bar. its a diner, its a Keno parlor, its a pizza and grinder shop, its all of the above. Its deceptively large inside with 20 or so booths. The big diner-like menu has it all - sandwiches, breakfast foods, pizza, grinders, and daily specials. I ordered an Italian grinder and a soft drink and it was less than $8 for a very nice sized sandwich that didn't skimp on the meat.. Interesting Gentleman Farmer is a place that is close to home that we we often go to, either as a couple or when we bring the family. There is a nice, family style atmosphere and the staff is super friendly. The food is always well prepared and the menu, from breakfast through dinner, has a great variety. This is a classic breakfast spot where you can't go wrong ordering breakfast. I can't really comment on Lunch/Dinner as I've only gotten breakfast here but every time I've been here the food has been excellent. The staff is friendly and good at their jobs and the food comes out relatively quickly! Whether you get French toast or one of their 2 eggs and toast meals- it's always freshly made and cooked to order! Portion sizes are perfect! The coffee is pretty good too. It's a cool little place that has an old-school vibe to it. So yeah the decor is a bit outdated but I'm pretty sure that's the "look" their going for. For a place like this it has a pretty eclectic crowd! There are always older individuals that you can tell are regulars because the staff refer to them by name! Great spot while we we're Antiquing in Rhode Island. Haddock was a little over done but the flavors were great and the inside was still soft and juicy melt in your mouth. The coleslaw was one of the best I have had and the mashed potatoes were just perfect for the comfort food craving I was looking for!! The waiter was delightful. Stopped in for breakfast yesterday and couldn't have been more pleased with going there. Small but cozy restaurant. Greeted when walking in and friendly staff. Waitress recommended the ham as I was torn between two breakfast choices and she nailed it for me. Eggs were good and fluffy (scrambled) ham was superb but the best was the home fries. Cut up in nice pieces, seasoned with onions and cooked on the grill to perfection! Now I'll have to go back again and try other menu items.. I'm a breakfast freak. I used to travel an hour ( which is far in Rhode Island ) to go to my favorite breakfast place. Unfortunately due to COVID my place has closed :( I was looking for a new favorite place . I've driven by my Gentleman Farmer diner a ton of times while antiquing .I just never thought to stop. I finally did and this may be my new breakfast spot ! I like my breakfast spots, cheap , simple and homemade as much as possible. Farm to table is also a plus ! This little diner is all of these and more . In the age of Corona dining out has been extremely different and a little sad to me . This diner went by all the regulations and I felt as secure as I could given the current events. We went during the week, there was only one couple in a booth. It's a bit on the small side . Due to social distance only every other table is being used, so I imagine there may be wait on the weekends ( and I WOULD wait ) . Ok the food !!!! The menu said homemade hash, which I love if made properly. I ordered that with 2 eggs ( of course w cheese ) home-fries and toast. The portion of hash was HUGE! A small plate pilled with it , just a little crispy ( like I like ) and salty , tender corned beef goodness ! It's the best I've had in while ! Eggs were scrambled perfectly with just the right amount of cheese. Home fries also seasoned just right , also good size portion. The waitress was sweet and attentive . Checked on us when needed. I love Gentleman Farmer. I stop in for breakfast with my mother often, as she lives practically across the street from the restaurant. Small setup with booths and tables, you seat yourself and within seconds you're given menus and asked if you want coffee. Btw get the coffee, it's really good and I'm not even a big fan of coffee. My fave is the #3: eggs, bacon, home fries and toast (I opt for the grilled english muffin). Nice portion sizes and perfectly cooked to your liking. The only thing I'm not crazy about is the onions in the home fries but I know that's a crowd pleaser for most (me and onions aren't friends). The staff is very nice and attentive. Prices are very good for the amount of food you get. On the weekends it can get very busy first thing in the morning. I'm a fan, now I just gotta get in there and try their lunch/dinner menu. read more

I'm giving this place 3 stars and even that is being nice. I ordered over easy eggs, toast, and home fries with a side of corn beef hash. The eggs were over cooked, the home fries were very plain, and the side of corn beef hash didn't taste good at all. The toast was fine pretty hard to mess that up. The reason why I'm giving this place 3 stars is because my boyfriend enjoyed his omelet, service was friendly, and it's a local diner that probably just messed my meal up. Place is old, tight seating but that's the style of it seeing it is an old country diner. A step-back-into-the-Seventies-style neighborhood, roadside diner on rural Route 44 with food just like mom used to make. (That is, if mom was an erratic cook serving up family favorites along with something quick out of the freezer.) But to be fair, I have eaten here often and usually enjoy the quiet, homey atmosphere and the traditional handwritten specials passed around on a loose-leaf page. The fish and chips tend to be excellent, as are the breakfasts, and the burgers and sandwiches are consistently OK, too. On our most recent visit, we enjoyed an excellent corn chowder, acceptable quality pot roast and turkey, and overcooked, flavorless canned vegetables. Yet for the price, it is well worth the adventure to select anything on the menu. A couple can have dinner here for under $30, and with a little luck, they might even enjoy it. read more

This is your typical roadside diner, nothing terribly fancy about it, but you can get a good plate. Tasty food, service with a smile. This is our typical Sunday breakfast spot. They have great omelets, never ending coffee, and the best pancakes EVER. Like seriously, I don't know what they do differently, but they are consistently fluffy and delicious. Love this place! I live within a few miles and it is always our go to place. Service is excellent and food is SO good. I especilly love the pan seared fish. The specials come with a soup or salad and choice of 2 sides. There are many choices on the special menu. Even with a take out the specials come with the soup or salad. Love the chicken soup! Prices are amazing. Specials during the week can't be beat! Compared to other places in the area, we pay half and the meal is much better.
