It was a stop on the whiskey trail that I was on. The staff were friendly and inviting. We opted for the tasting and it was 30 a piece. You get 6 tasting and a description of each. I will say the tasting is on the more pricer side compared to other distilleries on the trail. I'd heard of George Dickel but had never tried it. Our best friends live in Tullahoma and said they also had not been there yet. We all decided to check it out. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We enjoyed the shop very much.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We didn't take a tour that day because it was pouring down raining and we were all kind of tired from the busy day we'd had. The staff were very warm, friendly/welcoming and helpful. I bought a very comfy sweatshirt, Dickel trucker hat and a nice bottle of single Barrel. Had the chance recently to visit and tour Cascade Hollow Distilling Co. (a.k.a. George Dickel). This place is tucked away near Tullahoma, TN and is an easy drive from Nashville. If you like Tennessee whiskey or are just interested in the distillation process and history, then this short tour is worth the trip. We visited on a Saturday afternoon, and it was not crowded at all. The tour group we were placed in had maybe 10 people total. We did the basic tasting tour, which included a tour of the distillery and tastings of 4 George Dickel products. Our tour guide, Larry (I think), was great! He was very knowledgeable and funny. He certainly kept us entertained on the tour. It was approximately 1 hour for the tour and tasting. There is a nice gift shop and bottle shop as well. Here you can find souvenirs such as shirts, hats and a variety of glasses. The bottle shop also has some items you can't find in your local liquor stores. Overall this was a very nice trip. It's a short drive from Nashville or Chattanooga. Easy to find and very informative. My goal is to visit every distillery on the Tennessee Whiskey Trail, and I certainly recommend this stop for any whiskey enthusiast. read more

Been there twice, tasting experience is good, there small batch distillery labels are outstanding in flavor and very reasonably priced. You can go from a $40 bourbon to a $500 bourbon if you want. You're in the area it's worth checking out and at least do the tasting. read more

George Dickel is distilled in the hills of Tennessee; located in Cascade Hollow. It is truly a smooth, sipping whiskey with a charcoal filtered taste. I had the opportunity of touring their distillery on Saturday and the tour was excellent. I highly recommend it for traveler's passing through the State of Tennessee. Excellent tour! I really enjoyed this tour. We say everything from start up until bottling (that's done offsite). I liked seeing the fermenting process in the open vats. That was the first time I've seen that. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and it was nice hearing the history of Cascade Hollow distillery and how it became Dickel. The tasting was really good. I am not a rye whiskey fan but their rye was pretty good! We ended up taking home a bottle of their Bottled in Bond #3. read more

Dickel used to be one of my absolute favorite whiskeys, have drank it for years. Recently some friends of ours were visiting from another State and wanted to do some whiskey tastings. I suggested we go to George Dickel due to the quality of the whiskey and the location of the distillery. It was about a 2 hr drive for us and upon arrival we each ordered a flight of different whiskeys to taste. [[HIGHLIGHT]]This was a week day so there were not a lot of folks there that day doing tastings so we had our pick of spots to sit.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]We decided to sit on the porch area which gave you a great view of the layout of the unique surrounding area, distillery and the creek that runs through the property.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] As we were sitting there sipping our whiskey, a slight breeze of kicked up which allowed the flags to be displayed on the flag pole. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Low and behold, what did I see flying on the flag pole insulting and desecrating the the US Flag, and the flag of TN, none other than the militant Transgender flag![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I basically spit out the whiskey I was sipping when I saw that thing, what a disgrace to be flying that militant Transgender flag flag right up there with the big beautiful Stars and Stripes. I was looking forward to spending about $500.00 that day to add some Dickel to my collection at home, but decided I'd save my money to put into a distillery that is more aligned with my All American and family values. I'm really not sure why Dickel is flying that one particular flag, but they are sending a message and they have lost a life time customer, I will never purchase a single bottle of Dickel again, and I will forever tell friends that come to visit, not to waste their time or money going to the Dickel distillery because of what they stand for. read more

Probably the best American made whisky ever. There are others brands with fancier bottles, or edgier names that cost 4 times as much out there...... but none come close to what George Dickel produces. When you're ready for the best, give Dickel a try. I promise, after you do, your whiskey selection will never be the same without it. Whenever I go to an event, I will take a bottle of George Dickel as a "gift" so I don't have to drink whatever they are serving for free. It may be harder to find then the run-of-the-mill whiskeys out there, simply ask you local liquor store to start carrying it. Once people realize how incredible it is, they'll won't be able to keep it in stock (that's the problem I have). read more

We got the lowdown on the history of the grounds and distillery from our very personable guide. Then, it was off to the Adirondack chairs on the lawn for the tasting. Wifey and I also opted for the charcuterie to munch on. It was excellent. The samples of whiskey were very good. I actually prefer Dickel's to JD. We did the JD tour a few days prior. I'd rate this better. Awesome setting. Relaxing. Plus, you're sippin' whiskey. C'mon. About an hour and 15 from Downtown Nashville. Give it a shot. Gift shop and bottle shop on site. read more

I never had tried any of George Dickel's offerings but was anxious to give them a try. Our tour guide, Tori, was just wonderful, she was very informative, this distillery is a totally different operation than Jack Daniels, Toby gets to play a lot of different roles in the production of their fine elixirs. Although the distillery is much smaller in size to JD Toby informed us that GD distills almost as much as the former... It was interesting to find out that George Dickel, originally from Germany, originally was a shoe maker before getting into the liquor business with his brother. Another interesting bit of information was that most of their product is shipped off site and unlike JD they do not make there own barrels. After the tour we got to try the distillery products and I was very impressed by how smooth they were. If you are lucky enough to get Tori as your tour guide you'll find out not only does she wear many hats at the distillery she also wears a "toque blanche" (she's a Culinary Institute of America trained Master Chef). read more

George Dickel is an underrated whiskey in the American whiskey market. The higher proofed, older stuff has an amazing, nutty profile similar to Jim Beam, and it is terrific. I was very excited to visit this distillery on our way home from Chattanooga, but talk about disappointing. The Good: Tori & Megan were awesome. These two ladies worked in the gift shop, and they were amazing. I've been on 10+ distillery tours, and they (especially Tori) were the friendliest, most welcoming people I've ever encountered at any distillery ever. The grounds of the distillery were beautiful. You see my pictures. It took a while to get to Dickel once you got off the interstate, and the drive was pretty. Amazing. I really appreciated the bottles being sold in the gift shop. Rewarding folks for visiting the distillery with really good, scarce bottle options. Once the tour/tasting started, that's where my vibe was killed. The Bad & The Ugly: Our tour/tasting guide was Billy, and he wasn't pleasant. At all. - Made a sexist "joke" about how women don't listen to men. - Made sure to say that even though the master distiller is a woman, he reassured us that she knew what she was doing and was good. The overtones being that it was rare for a woman to know what she is doing. - Talked about how the government is coming for all our guns and he dares them to come for his guns, and they'll see what happens. Which has absolutely nothing to do with Dickel or whiskey, but he couldn't help but drop that in. - Said government regulation was completely out of control and soon "they" will be regulating how much whiskey we can even drink. - Didn't know basic information about whiskey in America, such as what Bottled-in-Bond means. I actually spoke up and answered two questions that were asked by other persons in the tour group when it was clear that Billy didn't know the answer, and then Billy said, "Actually, yeah. He's right. Well done." Dude - it is really basic info that you should know. - Billy also gave factually wrong information about whiskey and George Dickel (the person). My girlfriend and I kept looking at one another with raised eyebrows when he would say something. After we got in the car and fact checked Billy, our suspicions were confirmed. I mean, it was a complete bummer. I was vibing pretty good and totally into this distillery until the tour. But Billy was the ultimate wet blanket. He was so bad that I can't help give this experience but two stars. I do want to reiterate how awesome Tori & Megan were, though. But especially Tori. She is a star. I reckon if she were the tour guide, this may have just been the best distillery experience I have ever had. But she wasn't, so it wasn't. Sad day. read more

The tasting experience with master distiller Nicole Austin is fantastic and worth every penny. It's a 90 minute session on the art, science and history of whisky making in the region. Great day. I enjoyed the tour. I wished I had more time to stay longer. I'm so glad I came here today. Great customer service: Everyone was friendly and got fast service from the gift store after the tour. I highly recommend doing the tour here. The tour only costs $12. It includes a 45 minute tour of how they make George Dickel Whisky. At the end includes a tasting session where you get to taste 5 different whiskeys. My favorite was the number 12 or white label. There is plenty of parking. I recommend getting here 30 to 45 minutes before your tour starts. During this time you can browse the gift shop and then relax on the couch for a few minutes to get comfortable before walking on the tour. They also have fast WiFi here while you wait. The lobby is very comfortable with couches and even sits in front of a fireplace. It also feels like a log cabin where you pay, wait, do the tasting session and buy a 5th if you like. Inside the gift shop they have caps you can buy. But, they are expensive. Most are $25 to $30 but I saw 1 for $38. You can also buy drinks inside the gift shop like a coke or an RC cola. read more

Landed in Tennessee and of course we needed to visit the distillery of one of my favorites George Dickel. It was a lot of winding country roads to reach the distillery, thank goodness for Google Maps! We arrived close to 2 pm and only had to wait for a few minutes to begin our tour, enough time to browse their merchandise and chat with the staff there. The tour cost was $10 which included a 4 sample tasting at the finish which was more than worth the cost! Tour: Walking tour into their working distillery as well as a detailed history lesson about the founder and distillery. Our guide Deanna was great and answered all of our questions. Our group only had 4 people which made for a very relaxed tour and allowed us to have conversations while we walked. We were able to walk through their entire distilling process which was fascinating to see up close. Tasting: 4 whisky samples for us to try including the White #1, the #8, #12, and single barrel. Very interesting to have them side by side and notice the subtle and not so subtle differences. Plus we had our guide there guiding us through the nosing and tasting. Gift Shop: Lots of merch and a bottle room where. You can take home their regular bottles or hard to find bottles. For me it came down to the Barrel Select or the 17 year old. I finally settled on the 17 due to it's rarity and the recommendation of our guide that it will probably be the single best Tennessee Whisky or bourbon that I will have! Overall: I would highly recommend this distillery tour if you are going to head south of Nashville to visit Jack Daniels. GD is less commercialized and offers a far more intimate experience! read more

Having toured quite a few different distilleries over the years, I wasn't sure if there was more to learn about the process, but we definitely wanted a tasting here, so we signed up for the $14 tour. We were pleasantly surprised at how much we learned and how their process differs from those we had visited elsewhere. I felt the tour could have been a little better if our guide had been miked and didn't have to try and make herself be heard over the noises of an operating distillery; however, the young lady was knowledgeable and personable and did a fantastic job. After the tour, we were shown to a private bar area for our tastings. Our guide continued to entertain and manage the group so that everyone could enjoy our 4 tastings. It was a good tour! read more
