We stopped by the distillery on a lovely country drive. The tours were full so we perused the gift shop and saw the distillery from across the road. We decided to try their whisky and paid $14 for a sampling of four. We were so disappointed with the pours, there was just enough whisky to cover the bottom of the small sample glasses. We couldn't believe the samples would be so small, barely enough to taste each of the four samples. The more we thought about it the more we felt ripped off. After looking forward to a visit for years we were quite let down. At $14 we felt there should have been enough whisky to get a taste for each one. Maybe the tours provide a more generous sample but this left us feeling like chumps. read more

I thoroughly enjoyed my tour here. Compare to other distilleries in the area, It felt more individualized regardless of the group I was in. Plus I received a sample (pre charcoal filtration) to try during the tour. With that you really get a sense of the importance of charcoal in American whisky. George Dickel whisky is still one of my regulars because I'm of the combination of flavor and price. read more

The Tori and Megan were the absolute nicest, friendliest people I've ever encountered at a distillery. This wasn't my first, or second, or third rodeo either. The setting is absolutely beautiful and sitting in the Adirondack chairs in the early spring sun looking at the mountains was lovely. But that's the end of the nice things I can say about this distillery. My review is based on the tasting I purchased and came to the distillery to experience. I wasn't too impressed with the product. I didn't come all this way to drink moonshine on a tasting tour. Or gimmick Tabasco barrel finished whisky that I couldn't even drink. Two of the 4 samples were palatable. Our tasting "guide" Billy was the absolute worst. I was leery when he told us to take off our masks while we are still in the middle of a deadly global pandemic. I am trying to be safe during the few times I venture out of my house. Then he started telling us "history" that was factually inaccurate. I can put up with a little romanticizing history for the sake of an experience, but not outright lies. For example I can do math- Mr. Dickel died 15 years before Tennessee prohibition, so their little story about him seeing it coming and moving production to Louisville ahead of time is just plain wrong. Five minutes of reading afterwards confirmed that the rest of his schtick was all BS. However I was absolutely done about 10 minutes in with his sexist, misogynistic comment (can't even call it a joke) that Augusta Dickel "did what women do-didn't listen." The sexism continues with repeated reassurances to guests that the master distiller knows what she's doing, even if she is a woman. The women of the distillery seem to be much more capable of anything and everything than this man, IMO. Also wasn't here for his commentary on the government trying to tell us how much whisky we can drink and then trying to take his guns. Not the time or place. Billy- get your facts and knowledge about your product and process down so you aren't having to pull stuff out of your butt and call them "facts" when people come to learn. "Bottled in bond" actually means something; it isn't just a way for the taxman can get his money- saying so is just plain inappropriate. I didn't want to cause a scene for the other guests, which is the only reason I sat through the entire hour with you. Can't say that I'll ever be back. Which is a shame because while Tori and Megan are great, and the only reason I'm giving more than 1 star, Billy absolutely ruined it for me. read more

This was a beautiful little drive through the countryside to get to George Dickel's Cascade Hollow Distillery. The grounds are beautiful here and the staff couldn't have been more attentive and helpful. We had a whiskey sampling out on the front lawn area and the waitress was very friendly and informative. The bottle shop has a big variety of whiskeys and memorabilia as well. read more

This was a pretty great distillery tour. I learned a lot about who George Dickel was (not a distiller), who owns George Dickel, what is distilled/bottled where, and the various whiskeys George Dickel makes. Our tour guide was very informative, but he wasn't quite loud enough for us to hear every word on the tour - the group was quite large, and we were in the back - hard to hear when we're so far from him. A tasting follows the tour, which was fun as well. George Dickel may not be my favorite whiskey, but I did enjoy the tour! Not a bad drive from Nashville, and quite close to another distillery (you know which one) if you'd like to hit two in a day! What a wonderful place. Next time we will do a tour. Tasting on the lawn looked great. We drove down for a wedding and birthday present. It was so clean and Covid cautious. I felt very comfortable in the store and on the porch. Staff was very helpful with recommendations and knowledgeable about the products. We have delivered the gifts and everyone is very happy. Passing through Tennessee and we planned to visit a local Tennessee distillery! Interesting enough this distillery goes back to old school roots, minus the computer technology and relying heavily on old traditional methods of creating a quality Tennessee whisky. Corn percentage is at a 84%. In the tour we were able to sample their 1,8,12, select and Tabasco. when you're doing a tour ask for Ryan, but if you have a bad tour experience, his name is Travis. If you're a whisky connoisseur, this definitely a place to visit. read more

This is a "you have to know where you are going" to find it kind of place but it is everything you'd want to experience. Appropriately named, it is in a hollow and has a little "step back in time" charm. Our guide, Bobby, was relaxed and informative as he gave us a history of the distillery and George Dickel whisky and explained their processes and product line. Good and informative whisky tasting and a wonderful gift shop. This is well worth the time you set aside to learn more about Cascade Hollow and George Dickel Whiskeys. read more

We had the best time with our tasting on the lawn. From the moment we pulled up everything and everyone were super awesome. The nice girls in the store super helpful. Didn't have my size on the floor and they were happy to go in the back and find one for me . Then onto the Lawn Tastings. Our hostess. I think Torry was her name. Was chock full of interesting info , funny , witty , and would love to try her cooking sometime . She said she was a classically trained french chef. Even gave us a tip on what to do the Irish butter and some whisky. I will definitely try it when we get back home to Southern California. When we first planned our trip is was considering not going. This wasn't initially our first choice but being that today's aparentlyholidaythe "still down the road" wasn't open. However, we took a gamble and decided to stop by the Cascade Hollow Distillery since it wasn't too much further. Not only was this easy to get to but the place itself looks exactly what we envisioned for a Tennessee whisky distillery! The staff was informative, helpful, and seemed passionate about what they do. The entire facility was impressive and their tasting was well worth it. Compared to the "other brand", these guys know how to make smooth whisky that anyone can enjoy. I debated whether or not to write a review because I'd like to keep this place to myself. A few weeks ago, my husband and I decided to make a day trip of whisky tasting and hot chicken. Why not? We visited Jack Daniels first, but this place is the crown jewel. I don't want to make this a comparison, so I'll tell you what I liked best. We slid in Kramer style 2 minutes before the last tour of the day and come to find out that we were the only ones. We essentially got a private tour for $10 bucks a piece including the tasting. The staff were super nice and had no issue with giving us the tour. We waited a few minutes for our guide to bundle up. While we waited, we were directed to the postcard room where they informed us that we can pick a post card, fill it out and send for FREE from their establishment. They also offered free candy. Nice touch. Our tour guide was was knowledgeable and funny. It felt like a friend taking us around their business. We learned about their distilling process, toured the grounds (small place), and got down to business with the tasting. We got 5 generous pours of some d@mn good whisky. We ended up buying several bottles to take home. We even bought the moonshine. It's was super smooth. They also sell a tomatillo mixer for Bloody Marys that was out of this world. I'd skip Jack Daniels altogether and hit this place instead if you could only visit one. If you've got time, then visit both. They're relative close. I'm looking forward to coming back in the spring when they host their dinner/whisky events. read more

Stopped in with a group for the Cascade Hollow Distillery Tour. This includes a small tour through the Distillery and some history about it and the "Lincoln County Process" that makes it a "Tennessee Whiskey". The tour reminded me of what the (formerly) free Jack Daniel's tour used to be like. It was informative and gave a good view of exactly what goes into the "Hard Way" they make it. The Tasting was a delight at the end, the tour guide did an excellent job of really making you feel like you could judge the four different varieties (Dickel #1, Dickel #8, Dickel #12, and Dickel Barrel Select). The only thing missing is the Dickel 17 year! Highly recommended for Whiskey Amateurs and Experts alike! read more

Touring a distillery usually you think is pretty straight forward, but comparing the tour here to another well known jack Daniel's one, the tour itself doesn't compare. It was short sweet and to the point. Still informative. While comparing to other distilleries, I have to say the whiskey tasting, and variety especially for the cost was a way better experience at dickles! Souvenir cups and the tasting sold us on 2 bottles. Also I felt like I was getting a whiskey tasting education with better ways to appreciate it. All in all it was fun, if your in the area I would check it out for sure, the gift shop is cool also! read more

Was visiting my friend for his 40th birthday. I scheduled a tour of the distillery and told them at the time that we were celebrating my friend's 40th birthday. The tour coordinator, Brandi, did a great job surprising my friend with a little something extra to make his visit one he will never forget. All the folks at the Dickel distillery were warm and friendly. Our tour guide was knowledgable and gave a fun and informative experience of the distillery. This smaller scale distillery is located in Cascade Hollow and is off the beaten path. I am not surprised by the lack of reviews as there is no cell service or internet around the distillery. GPS doesn't have you arrive at your destination either...close, but you will get there because there is only one road to the distillery. That said, we found it to be worth the effort. The area surrounding the distillery is just beautiful. They offer different types of tours, although we did not go on one. We did walk around the historic distillery and of course visit the gift shop. If you purchase a bottle from the hand selected barrel, you can autograph the "barrel." I've done this tour about three or four times now but when I took the tour yesterday, it all seemed new to me. George Dickel #12 is my drink of choice so I was happy to see their gift shop stocked with several different shirts and even bought a new ornament for the Christmas tree. Nice, intimate 45 minute walking tour. We were very impressed that this entire operation (not counting the tour guides and gift shop operators nor the bottling process that is done up in Illinois) is run by only 29 employees. These 29 employees do it all, even mow the grass.. This is a great tour to do in conjunction with the Jack Daniel distillery tour less than an hour away. We did them both yesterday and enjoyed them both. read more

Visited on a Tuesday in November. I went on the complementary tour. Our tour group included three visitors andone tour guide. The tour was great, as our guide was very knowledgeable. She knew just what to highlight about Dickels process. The tour involved walking about 20 minutes total, and going up and down at least 2 flights of stairs. Since Diageo bought them, almost all bottling is done off site, which was a let down. After the free tour, you can do a tasting for $11 which includes samples of each product that is made. The staff was again well informed and happy to answer questions about the process and differences between variety of spirits. Bottles are avaliable for purchase, but they did not have any that were only avaliable at the distillery. That was a let down. I wanted to buy a unique bottle. Overall, it was a good experience, and i would happily return! read more

George Dickel Tennessee Whisky distillery is located on Cascade Hollow Rd in the middle of no-where. The distillery is so remote I lost all cellphone reception. George Dickel Whisky is as good as any Scottish Whisky, hence the explosion of the "e", or so George A Dickel thought. During the distilling process the whisky is chilled, due to George A Dickel belief that the whisky tasted better when it was distilled during the winter months. George Dickel Distillery has a philosophy of doing things the "hard way". The distillery in Cascade Hollow is small but strives to produce quality spirits for its thirst patrons. The tour is fairly short, roughly 30 minutes, but cheap ($10) and informative. The guide was knowledgeable and passionate about whisky. The gift shop is located in a former post office and you are offered the opportunity to mail a postcard (free of charge) to commemorate your visit. Unfortunately, there weren't an abundance of opportunities to take pictures. Never-the-less the tour was good and the tasting which followed was delightful. As part of the tour the guest are offered a sampling of four Dickel libations. I leave you to your own descriptions of the whisky's taste/aroma. The only unifying description, is the distinct burn as the whisky travels down your throat. The George Dickel Tennessee Whisky Distillery has a rich history and great whisky. Used to be a huge Dickel fan. I occasionally commute to Tullahoma for work, and have taken the tour several times. Routinely redirected friends & family from that other distillery nearby to Dickel, because I think the experience is better. Well, what defines a business isn't their best day, but how they handle it when something goes wrong. Last July, my brother was visiting from out of state. I called ahead to check their hours, listened to the whole recording, and got on the road. 1 1/2 later we got to the distillery... and it was like a ghost town. We wandered around for a bit trying to figure out what was going on, and a security guard crossed the street to let us know they were shut down that day for some sort of maintenance. Super. I spent three hours of my brother's two-day trip on a drive to nowhere. Would've been nice to update your voicemail/hours Dickel. Would've also been nice if their customer service team returned *either* of the two very polite messages I left requesting follow up. Yeah, I called a second time because I *really* wanted them to fix this and not lose me as a customer. It sucks to get burned by a brand you really love and have to cut the cord. Haven't spent a cent on their product since, and encourage people to tour elsewhere. read more

Our first distillery tour, and it was amazing. The tour guide was very knowledgeable of what the process of whiskey making. The place is very clean and neat. After the tour is the whiskey tasting in different ages. From 90% proof to at least 89%. It has a tour fee of $12 but for any men that serve in the military are free; a nice treat. Great to be here. This distillery sits in a picturesque hollow with rolling countryside, flowing streams, trees, blue skies and sunshine. Perfect for hosting their porch side live music concerts. The staff is accommodating and knowledgeable. The tour is interesting and fun. They distill by hand with a full staff of only 28! You learn the difference between Tennessee Whisky and Bourbon, why Dickel does not use an 'e' in Whisky and more. ⁉ The tasting room is classy and comfortable. We visited the distillery on Saturday for one of their Whiskey on the Lawn tastings, coming from Chattanooga. The main reason we visited was because of all of the safety procedures that they are taking at the distillery, like requiring masks inside the visitor center and having all of their tastings outdoors. When we arrived, everyone was very friendly, and we were happy to see that the lawn was organized with small groups of Adirondack chairs, based on how many people were in the party of people you came up (1-6 people). The groups of chairs were 8-10 feet apart with a large umbrella to provide shade on the sunny lawn. Our tasting included water and samples of 4 different whiskeys. Our tasting guide, Tori, was enthusiastic and knowledgeable and was happy to answer questions. We felt safe taking off our masks at our chairs and enjoying the tasting, along with a little picnic that we'd brought with us. We definitely would recommend a visit to the distillery, particularly since they're doing everything that they can to protect both their employees and their visitors during this pandemic. We're looking forward to enjoying the whiskey that we purchased during our visit. read more
