My tall 20 year old needed his first suit for a wedding. I'd never been suit shopping, only prom at Mens Wearhouse. While home over college break we went here as suggested by 2 people. Was shown a few offerings by a young man which I hoped was a good sign given their collective ages and were quite large size wise due to his average build and 6'5" height. A lightweight wool was chosen for longevity and breathability. It was pinned for alterations shirt, ties, pocket square were bought with it. When it was done, it would be sent to him at college-states away. Upon receipt of suit- was still too big and had to find an alteration place near his school as there was not enough time to be sent back & await further delays before he had to fly to wedding. Over $1K for this suit from a mom that is not wealthy but wanted him to have a quality suit, which was a rite of passage as this would be his first wedding attendance, would be using suit for interviews in a few months and was my last big thing I could do for him since his dad died. Has not been used since that cousins wedding. Fast forward 4 years and now he and fiance planning own wedding and has BIG trepidation over the whole suit debacle. read more

Worst suit barn ever- If possible I would give them a negative rating .. Don't buy anything from them.. Unless you are a skinny high-school student or old skinny man. The suits won't fit nomatter how much they lie about the alterations will fix it.. Alls they do is make it tighter so you can only stand like a statue.. In this case. I Can't even make a toast with the jacket on..or even eat or drink in the slightest way.. Usually we can just tough it out for the pictures then take it off and move on.. I can't even ware this in public-totally bad fitting and improper in every way.. But once they have your money it's like you don't exist.. I was very impressed with my recent visit. Since new ownership took over earlier in the year, you can see the difference. The suit selection has improved, they're doing made to measure suits from Hart Shaffner and Marx, and I can now buy khakis and shoes there (Florsheim, Johnston and Murphy) as well. My most recent purchase was an S Cohen sportcoat, slacks and a tie, with a Forsythe of Canada shirt. Yes, I looked sharp, since the tailors there were able to do not just the sleeves and hems, but also the seat of the pants, and the shoulder seam to really make the outfit work. As part of a wedding party, we rented our suits from George's and once we paid for the rental, customer service went out the window. I showed up after work on a Wednesday and their customer care was just about zero. One woman who worked there was clearly overwhelmed - there were five customers - she looked around at me and my boyfriend and said, "They can wait." I tried on my suit and there was no one available to assess. Worse, not one employee had the common sense to simply say, "We'll be with you in just a moment." Nothing. This store may have a storied past with its tales of customer service, but there was no customer care to be found. On top of that, one suit was missing from the groomsmen's, one groom had to have his pants refitted and so on. Terrible experience, I will never shop there again. Be warned. This place has outstayed its welcome. read more

The staff was very friendly and they had a good selection. Cy helped me find what I wanted, a more modern-looking suit. I'm only giving it 4 stars for now until the finish with the alterations. George's Apparel could easily be a 3 or 4 star place for the right customer. If you're a teenager looking for their first suit or a businessman looking for a suit for work and you don't want to spend too much you're in luck (assuming you can find a sales person to help you). Unfortunately, if you're looking for a modern, slim cut. American/European made or canvassed suit there doesn't seem to be many options. Upon walking into George's you see there are thousands of suits in every size you can imagine. There were a few sales representatives standing around but none offered to help us. Not deterred, I was able to find the section with my size and after 5 minutes a sales rep came over and asked if he could help. When I stated I was looking for a slim cut suit in charcoal or dark grey he responded: "We don't really have many slim cut suits, look for those with a yellow sticker" and walked away never to be seen again. Thinking we misunderstood, I mean how can you have this many suits and no slim cuts? We keep looking for another 10-15 minutes. We quickly realized he was right (at least they know their stock), most of the suits were very conservative complete with pleated pants. I didn't find what I was looking for at George's Apparel, but if you're in their target demographic it could be a great alternative to Men's Warehouse or the department stores in Manchester. read more

By and far the best place to get a suit. Everyone knows what they're doing and unlike many of the other places to get suits, they won't try and upsell you. Everything is very affordable and you know what you're getting is going to last. Getting alterations is such a simple process and you can tell they know what they're doing-their work shows it! I just went in to get a suit altered and it took me more time to find a spot to park then the tailor to look at my pants and jacket and make corrections. I see alot of low reviews and I'm honestly surprised, Georges is far far better than any other store in terms of quality work, courtesy, and price. Just went to pick up my suit coat at a competitor of George's and it was a complete nightmare of an experience. Decided we would stop in to see what we could find here at the last minute and somehow found a suit coat as soon as we walked through the door. Not only that but the gentleman Cy who helped us out was one of the nicest people I have ever had the pleasure of doing business with. After finding out that I needed the suit coat for our wedding next week he assured me he would put a rush on it so I would have it in time. We were left no choice in where to get the suit for our friends wedding. They didn't even have bags to put the suit in when the suit was finally ready to be picked up. Just purchased a new suit for my Son as a birthday gift and couldn't be happier with the service we got at George's! The suit needed tailoring and when we went to pick it up the length of the pants was a bit long however they were able to get them re-hemmed -while we waited -I was amazed! Have purchased two suits here and have been very satisfied both times with the quality of the product and especially the customer service.We went to Joseph Banks prior to coming here and while the price was less,the suits looked cheap in comparison! This used to be the best place in the Manchester area to buy men's apparel. Now the people working there don't seem to care. My suit had needed tayloring recently. Forty minutes wait. A couple of lines in a few seconds told to come back on a date to pick it up. Upon arrival another long wait. When I tried the suit on after the tayloring, it was very apparent they hadn't done anything to it. The person helping me laughed at me when I said it was still to tight. She told me that if there was not enough material there was nothing she could do. She laughed at me and I said it wasn't funny. I needed to wear this to walk my Daughter down the isle for her wedding. she checked the suit pants for extra material and said okay I'll let it out an inch. When I came back again it fit in the waist but the but was still too tight and it was rippled under the belt line since they didn't Taylor it proportionately. Bottom line the service is not there anymore. It's too bad I think the owner built this place on excellence and now he may have retired. read more

Bought a suit back in the Spring that they did not fit properly. Called ahead asking if I could bring it in to get refitted and they said that it wasn't a problem. Drove over an hour only to have them tell me when I got there I need to get it dry cleaned first. Wasted my day driving there. Also not very friendly. read more

We wanted to try and shop locally for as much of our wedding purchases as possible. We did not want to support big box stores if local business could use it. As a wedding industry professional as a sales representative for a bridal gown designer, I feel strongly about this. I googled local men's apparel stores in my area and found George's. I found that George's had very limited hours and had a hard time finding time for my brother and my fiancé to meet there together. We rushed out of work early to get there before 5:30 to find them suits to purchase for our wedding. We were serviced by the tailoring expert and felt unsure about the selection. We left an order with the seamstress and never got a call again until I had to call to find out if the suits were ready to be fitted or not. I sent my groom and my brother to get their suits fitted and were told that when he walks in the sales clerk said "oh shit". They got there at 5:10 and were told they were unable to be helped. The sales staff dismissed my groom and my brother and told them to come back on a date that they were open later. My wedding is less than four weeks away and I am extremely disappointed in service we were given at this store. They will not be receiving any more of my business or any referrals for me, that is for sure. Unfortunately we are not forced to shop at a big box store like Macy's or Mens Wearhouse. read more

I'm glad to see the other customers of this place received good service because my husband and I certainly did not. Actually, the service was non-existent. We were in the place for ten minutes and no one even approached us, even though there was someone on the floor. Of course, the person on the floor was having a nice chat with a friend, so he just couldn't be bothered to make minimal eye contact. Even after asking for help, the rep on the floor said he needed to call someone else (!!!). We waited around for awhile without anyone materializing to help us, so we walked out. It's too bad because I had heard (and read below) such good things about this place and I would rather give my money to a local business. Maybe they have better staff than the one person we met, but those people clearly don't work on the morning shift. If your a big guy, you don't want to go here, or at least be selective on your sales person. The salesman Al treated me like I just came off the farm and never wore a suit before. Al was not the big guys pal. I needed a sport jacket and pants for my Dad's funeral I was dealing with enough at that point and this jerk treats me like I just came out of a cave. Plus he measured my pants wrong I had to come back 3 times for adjustment to my pants and jacket. The one saving grace in the place was Holly, if it wasn't for her the whole transaction would have been a disaster. This is not the first time I have received poor service in this place. I think I've purchased about 20 suits from George's over the past 20 years as well as dozens of pairs of pants. They are always great to work with. I've never had an issue getting assistance on suits, shirts, suspenders, and slacks. We are going on a cruise that requires my husband to wear a jacket for dinner. Unfortunately my husband has become a bit portly over the years and nothing he owns fit. We stopped by to see if we could pick up a jacket without breaking the bank. With all the racks and racks of jackets they could only come up with 3 choices in a 44 portly. One need only look at the general population to see portly is not hard to find. The 3 were all $199.00 and looked very outdated.I think we could have found more style at the Good Will.Yuck! I've read some bad things about George's but I've been buying suits there for ten years. First of all, if you go to Macy's or Jos Banks you can get a better selection of modern or hip suits. The next step is tailoring which costs money. In the future, if you lose a button or break a zipper, or pull a seam then you are back to the tailor paying more money. If you gain a few pounds or lose a few pounds you're back paying more money. George has free repairs and alterations for life. Over the past ten years, George's has taken my suits in, taken them out, repaired rips, buttons, and zippers all for free. Their suits are not the modern slim cut suits because those suits, like skinny ties, will be out of fashion again in just another few years. A good suit lasts a long time and never looks dated. I tell people to go to George's for their suits. read more

I took my son to George's for his first real suit yesterday. His father and grandfather have both shopped at George's for their suits for many years. I wanted my son to experience the tradition of buying a suit from people who really know men's wear. His experience was everything I had hoped he would have. While the salesman, Gary, took his measurements and marked the suit for tailoring, he spoke with both of us about the need to plan for my son's growth (only 15) to get the longest wear from the suit. He understood the fashion trends for young men and assisted my son in choosing something that is fashionable and a classic at the same time. I was so pleased when Gary took the extra steps to help my son learn to tie a tie and take care of suit by properly hanging up the pants. The suits were all competitively priced. I can't imagine why anyone would pay the same thing for a suit from a department store without the tailoring, expertise and special touches that George's offers. This type of service used to be the norm, but now it is nearly extinct. read more
