I used Yelp to find a mechanic for my car issues ( engine would stop running when car would come to a stop). Downy Car Care responded stating they would give a free diagnosis. Since they are half a mile from my house I went to them. Mistake. They provided codes but nothing related to engine issue. Then they wanted 450 to remove oil pan and install new gasket. Not sure what that had to do with engine turning off. I declined and decided to go to George's Auto Service. Car turned off 9 times getting there. But it was well worth it. They immediately looked at the car and after 15 minutes diagnosed the problem. It was a simple fix and two hours later my car was running great. For them to look at my car was free. This is the only place I will ever get my oil changed. I moved to La Mirada 4 years ago and asked a neighbor for a recommendation. She told me George's was an excellent place to come and she was definitely right. I have been getting my oil changed here for the last 4 years and the service is always done in 15 minutes or less. Even with my car being covered by the dealership for oil changes, I still choose to come here for the speedy and excellent service. My experience here was with an honest, fair, and knowledgeable mechanic. I took my girlfriend's car in because there was a horrible grinding sound coming from the right rear wheel as I drove. George asked me what the problem was and then took the car on a short test drive with me to see for himself. After returning to the shop, he showed me how the wheel wasn't spinning correctly, and said it was probably something in the drum. He opened it up and sure enough, there was a huge buildup of sheared metal from the wheel bearing. He took one look and told me the nut on there was the wrong type (pictured below), which may have been the cause of the issue. I'm guessing some lazy or incompetent mechanic installed it the last time the car was taken to another shop for service on the brakes. The nut on the opposite side wheel bearing was the correct type and George showed me how it had a locking mechanism that the first one lacked. George made a call to check for parts availability, then quoted me a fair price ($199) and told me he could have it fixed in an hour and a half or so, depending on how soon the parts arrived. He never tried to convince me there was a problem with the brakes or anything else unrelated to the problem I brought the car in for, but I ended up asking him to change the oil as well. All in all, George got the work done in the time and for the price he promised. He showed and shared his expertise every step of the way and even did another test drive afterward to make sure everything worked perfectly. I took my Infiniti M45 into the shop because my power steering went out. After a thorough inspection, Ahmad let me know that my power steering system was fine and the issue was actually a damaged serpentine belt. He even showed me the worn out belt which validates his credibility and honesty!! Ahmad replaced the belt in a timely manner and the power steering issue was resolved. My car needed an oil change and although I usually AND prefer to do it myself, time and geographic constraints forced me to farm out for the job. Where do I look first? Yelp of course! George's Auto Service allowed me to provide my own original equipment manufacturer (OEM) Honda oil filter and a drain plug washer for him for to use for the oil change. I only use factory parts whenever I can and it's recommended to replace the oil drain plug washer on Hondas/Acuras every time you do an oil change. He has various containers of oil in his shop so you can specify a brand and type (dino, blended or full synthetic) preference if you'd like. I came to get an oil change and tire rotation for my Honda Odyssey. I called around and George was much cheaper than other places. I went to Honda dealership and they said it took 1.5-2 hours even though I made an appointment and they said it would take 1 hour. They made me wait 20 minutes before they told me so I had to go home because I work. I asked to reschedule but they said they can't guarantee and the only way to get it done fast was to come at 7am. I came to George's and he did it in 20 minutes and let me know that I didn't need a tire rotation yet. That's very rare because usually they try to upsell you. The majority of his reviews are 5 stars, and felt confident enough to go to him right away. I came to him with a normal inspection of my vehicle, and he told me what repairs have to be done with costs. I called because I kept getting a p0108 MAP sensor code on my diagnostic tool. I can do basic DIY stuff on my car but I've never cleaned or switched out a MAP sensor so I decided to let a mechanic look at it. This is my wife's car and she drives my kids around so I wasn't about to mess with it. Knowing the sensor needed to cleaned or replaced I was glad to hear George recommending we clean it first and it that doesn't do the trick then replace it. That kind of honesty is really go to hear. I did my homework and knew what different routes we can take and he agreed. I am taking my 2016 rav4 hybrid into his shop early Saturday morning before he leaves for his trip. As anyone can tell you, a trip to the mechanic is a stressful and trying time. If you don't trust your mechanic, you always wonder if your getting ripped off. My first experience with George almost 20 years ago changed my perspective forever. My problem was with a window button assembly on my Corolla. After putting in a replacement panel, it still didn't roll down. So he got a replacement and tried again. Still nothing. George tells me I may have to go to the dealer for a new window motor! "Let me try something first" he says. Walks over with a wrench and gives the window motor casing a good whack. Window rolls up like new! Never in all my dealings with a mechanic have I encountered such honesty. He didn't even charge me for labor!!! He's been my mechanic ever since and I've never looked back.
