Real simple. This is your neighborhood pizza joint. It probably has t been upgraded since it opened but they don't need to. I stumbled upon this place because it was late and I just wanted something quick. They provided a delicious and greasy slice of plain pizza for $2. At $8 in Philly I am not going to complain (much). 2 of my favorite things that don't necessarily need to go together, corropolese roll and a toasted roll. Corropolese rolls stand on their own but it is George's pizza and not Jim's. Very good roll, with or without the toasting. The meat had a good flavor. Very good amount of cheese and the cheese was melted very nicely. When I visited a few weeks ago to pick up some pizzas, there was a patron with no mask at all seated eating pizza; a woman at the counter whose mask was covering her nose 10% of the time, mouth 50%; a younger woman behind the counter whose mask covered her nose 50% of the time (mouth 100%); and a cook whose mask was protecting his chin (nose and mouth 0%). Even though I have lived in this neighborhood for years, I had never tried their food. I ride past their actual store maybe twice a week but it always looked like the store was empty so I just rode past. Well a couple of months ago, I found one of their menus on the table and this time I really looked at it. It was fresh and you could tell that it was just made, not just sitting in the oven until someone ordered. And it had a nice thick chewy crust!!! And the hot wings were delicious too and they were not little pigeon wings either. The food arrived hot and still steaming. Even their delivery guy was pleasant. Since that first delivery maybe 7 months ago, I have ordered from them maybe once a month since then without any problems. They have become my go to spot and that's saying a lot because I live two blocks from Temple's main campus and I get A LOT of menus. It took me a while to post because I like to rate overall service over time and they have consistently been very good. I've ordered here 15 times and have gotten the following menu items: 1 Mega Fries $5.00 12 Tacos $4.50 1 Pepperoni Rollup $5.00 1 Grilled Chicken Quesadilla $7.00 1 Ground Beef Quesadilla $7.00 1 Italian Hoagie $5.75 1 Mozzarella Sticks $3.75 My go to order is the ground beef quesadilla and mozzarella sticks. I've done that order 4-5 times at least, but I've also ventured off and tried some other items. The megafries were great. I normally don't care for fries, but I was craving them. The portion was generous and there was a ton of of cheese and bacon. I order megafries once per year, so I don't have a lot to compare to, but these seemed to be pretty good. The minitacos, are something I wouldn't order again. I ordered them just to make the delivery minimum and they are just like the ones that you can buy at the grocery store. They come with a side of salsa, but not with a side of sour cream. The pepperoni rollup was great. It really exceeded my expectations. Check out the picture I posted to see for yourself. The grilled chicken and ground beef quesadilla's are solid. I particularly like the groundbeef quesadilla. It's much different than you would expect. It's almost like a mini meatball quesadilla. They are very generous with their onions and peppers on these quesadillas and the tortilla is light and airy, but fried crisp. The italian hoagie is good and for 5.75 it's a really good deal, make sure to specify if you want oil + vinegar or mayo (I get both, because I can) The mozzarella sticks here are my favorite from any delivery place in the city. 1st of all they are the deep fried kind that are square logs. Not the baked circular log with crumbly breading kind. (Yuck). Most places will charge you 5 dollars for 5 sticks or 5 dollars for 6 sticks. Nope here they charge 3.75..... I get them every time, no order is complete without them. Overall, given the 1 dollar delivery fee, the cheap prices, and the fast service. Returned food for it to be remade and that took an extra 30-40 minutes. Did not get to eat food until 8:00. Was only refunded $5. I would not recommend, I literally order from George's once every year and every year I grow more and more disappointed. Of all the pizza joints that have came and gone, George's Pizza has been a staple of Northern Liberties for decades now! While their food is typical of the average American take-out joint, their service is beyond average. Upon entering you are given a boisterous greeting from George (the owner), who is almost always there working hard, and probably already knows what you want! The food is always fresh, and the prices are always good. Not to mention it's cooked by authentic Greeks. Delivery is expeditious, even on the busiest days of the week. They once delivered to me during a snow storm, within 45 minutes, to 29th & Ridge. Thats hot food over three miles in extremely adverse conditions! The only reason I havent given George's a five star rating is because of their stay-in dining. It's too small, and too hot! I think the only remedy for that though, would be a new location. I ordered through Slice, there's nowhere to put your unit if you live in a row home. I put the unit in the special directions/instructions, and the poor delivery driver couldn't find it. He seem to have some type of intellectual disability, which made me feel even worse when he finally got there. I ordered a personal white with tomatoe. tnjs was literally crust with tomatoes on it. my house salad came out fine but I never ate it because I was grossed out from the food. the garlic knots were rock hard and black on the bottom of every single one and I had 9!!! milkshake was fine my drink was fine! Broccili bites again cold not even a little like a cold cold. when I reached out to sl place they said they would reach out to them and get back to me since it was so early in the morning. I really read these reviews before trying places so the rating made me very skeptical. However it's so close and we've heard from people who live in the area that this place is good. We went in and ordered a slice on a busy Friday night. Although it was busy we got our slice within seconds from the owner George who was so nice. I've got to say it was so good! The crust was crispy and tasty. And it was only $2.50!!! And an extra large pie is so cheap too only $11! Like come on it doesn't get better than that. As mentioned, this is mostly mediocre fare, but it's a great little joint. I stop in here nearly weekly for a pizza or various other snacks. The pizzas are what you'd expect from a local hole-in-the-wall joint; it gets you by, but likely not going to blow your palate away. But you can't beat the cost. These things are cheap as heck. Extra star because George himself is nearly always working, and he's such a fun/friendly guy. Your typical soft doughy pie, plastic cheese, and very little sauce; pizza that's ubiquitous at cheap corner joints. Why even try to order here? For one thing it's crazy cheap. I think there's a deal for two large pies at twelve dollars. It's possibly cheaper than that, I don't have the menu with me at the moment. Dear George, I have been ordering from your establishment for a while now--I have always enjoyed your grilled chicken salads and mini tacos. Tonight I ordered a chicken salad & my partner ordered a chicken finger platter with onion rings. I used GrubHub. I waited patiently and am happy to say that our food arrived promptly! I opened the salad box and everything was as it was advertised. The second box containing the chicken platter came with fries, which was a pleasant surprise. However, when my partner Gregory Jr. opened our third package we were both shocked and dismayed to discover that the onion rings we ordered had magically transformed into more fries. An unpleasant surprise to say the least. My partner, the thoughtful man he is, promptly called you in order to ask if our onion rings were left behind. We just wanted to make sure they were okay. The woman on the phone said she tried to call and tell us that you were out of onion rings. George, I have the receipts: there was no missed call. Here's the thing George, the fact that you were out of onion rings isn't the thing that rubbed us the wrong way inside. Places are out of things all the time; we're not monsters. What weighed heavy on our hearts was the the fact that she lied. She lied and she gave no apology. My partner, Gregory Jr. is considering taking apart his phone to insure that the phone is operating properly. Our night is ruined. George, you're not off the hook yet.. There was a second issue. So... after some prying, we were informed that we paid 50 cents more for the nonexistent onion rings (fries are 2.50 and fries are 3.00). The woman offered to give us our 50 cents back; but the offer felt hollow and full of darkness. Again, George, in the same way that the first issue is not about the onion rings, this issue is not about the 50 cents.. It's about common decency. If we had not asked about the price difference, the woman wouldn't have mentioned a thing, you would have dollar with no apology, and no one would be the wiser. That is both dishonest and extremely low-level crime. We're disappointed. George, in closing I just want to say that we are practically neighbors.. is this how you treat your neighbors? I want to be able to tell my friends, "Hey Friend #1! You should go to my pal George's spot, he has onion rings and when he doesn't have onion rings he tells you that he doesn't have them." Or "Hey Friend #2, my favorite pizzeria is a real hoppin' place. It's called George's and when you pay more for food than you're supposed to, they hook you up with your money back without you having to call and feel weird about the fact that you spent more money than you were supposed to." I am currently eating stromboli from here and it is incredible! The owner(I'm assuming his name is George), is such a nice guy. I often walk by after work and stop in occasionally to grab a pizza or sandwich. Although it's a simple takeout/delivery location, it's great to see them make the food. They obviously care and take great pride in what they're making. Their pizza is a good basic pizza with fresh toppings. Their sandwiches are great! They toast the rolls in the pizza oven while making a cheesesteak and it makes everything taste 100 times better than the normal neighborhood shop. Their fish sandwich is also one of the best in the neighborhood. I only ever had one thing there that was so so, but it had everything to do with my personal tastes. Their fried chicken is very sweet, as if it's honey dipped. The price was right, and decent portions, but I'm just not a fan of the way it was prepared. A lot of people like it to be be prepared like this, so I can't stress enough that it was just my tastes and I still ate it all so it couldn't have been all that bad! hahahahaha read more
