Being a native of the Blackstone Valley, I have eaten at the Redwood as long as I can remember. Growing up in the 50's and 60's, there were drive-in restaurants on all the main highways such as Route 16. Since the advent of the super highway, those days are gone. Luckily Mendon still has one. Fortunately for us, this one still can provide a quality meal. Not many places can serve up quality seafood like they do here. The fried clams were excellent without one gram of grit. The onion rings were light and flakey. Just perfect. I was with a party of six and all were very satisfied with scallops, fish and even one burger. It's the end of the summer season. I'm not sure when they close for the season. But you might want to get one more seafood meal under your belt before the long winter! read more

Have been coming here for a few years for our annual trip before they close after labor day. It's a roadside place that has the walk up windows or drive up car service just turn on your lights and they come to you. Or sit at one of the many picnic tables and let a waitress come to you. The food is good for some things and average for others. The white chowder is thick and creamy. Though this year they seem to have gotten cheap with there clam cakes. Usually there bite sizes ones and large use to be about 24 pieces. Today's though was all over the place with weird shapes and tiny pieces. Have had the lobster roll and it's pretty good and fair priced. Don't expect it to be top notch because it's not that type of place. They also have kids meals and ice cream. I'm shocked that this place has so many good reviews. It is overpriced, tasteless seafood. The fisherman's platter was blah, they somehow managed to make bland, gross French fries, and the lobster roll was tiny, had too much mayo, and a weird taste. Not at all worth the money. Was not good at all. I was sooo exited for the food but unfortunately it did not meet my expectations at all. We did take out. As soon as we got home which was 15 min away, the food was soggy and cold. The lobster roll that i was excited for had NO TASTE, the clam strips were sooo soggy, the french fries were good but the fish wasn't . Best seafood around! I use to go there every Friday with my mom for fish and chips, but we since moved to South Carolina and the seafood in our town is either catfish or frozen tilapia. After I graduated I decided to make a spontaneous road trip up to CT to see family. I went over to Mendon twice that week to see old teachers and both times got George's and my life was complete for the time being. I never tasted seafood so good. Also a fan and forever a fan. UPDATE: I stopped by on 6/4/10 to buy my son a dish of ice cream. Afterwards as with all kids he has to use the bathroom ten minutes after asking him if he needed to go while standing outside of a restroom. So I walk him to Georges restroom. The public restroom is located in the back so I walked with him to the door and waited while it was being used. While waiting the stench from trash,old food,grease or whatever was terrible. When we got into the bathroom there were cockroaches walking on the walls! At that point I was grossed out. There's no reason the back of the house should smell that bad and bugs? Come on! Nasty. I will not be back there. I guess ignorance is bliss. read more

We went there the other day to get food and after waiting too long, we figured out that they do NOT take credit cards. Their excuse was that they are a small family owned business and "cannot afford the credit card fees". There are businesses much smaller than them who DO take credit cards (and for the prices George's charges, I find that to be a poor excuse). I wonder how many customers they turn away each day because of that (more than they are willing to admit, I'll bet). Needless to say, we left with NOTHING and went somewhere else... had some SPECTACULAR seafood, great service AND they took credit cards. George's loss. read more

Excellent seafood! We are very fussy and the whole clam plate has ALWAYS been fresh and perfect! But, it IS expensive. We will pay the price though to get such good food .....whole clam plate is on par with Legal Seafood-no joke. Other stuff is very good. Try the super chicken fingers as well-light batter. Excellent kids menu with good prices. Strawberry lime ricky- the best around and the strawberry shortcake is yummy! Ice cream just average but great malted frappes. Opened seasonal. Car hop service and shaded picnic tables (no indoor dining) with small kid play area with sandbox and playhouse. Definitely stop here on way to Mendon drive-in or while passing through!! Picked up a fried clam plate from this place the other day and it was phenomenal. Likely Top 5 all time. Although I got takeout, it's straight out of Happy Days as they also have car hop with the waitress bringing the food to your car. They are just missing roller skates. read more

I have been going here for years. My husband and I we looking forward to season opening. My husband can eat a lot and often did not finish his clam strip plate. Today we went and for $45 we were completely ripped off. Smallest servings ever. Never again. So sad. read more

Love this place! We eat here every year. Went this past weekend. My mother and I split a Captains plate. It was amazing! Super Huge! Full of fried clams, haddock, scallops, shrimp, fries, and onion rings. Everything was delicious, sweet, fresh, and tasty. It's a ton of food though! I have no idea how one person could possibly consume this much but I'm sure folks do. My Aunt had just the fried clams, again her portion was huge (she couldn't eat all of it) but they were delicious! My family and I have been coming here several times a year for over 30 years and this year is the first year I have to say we probaly won't be back. The Seafood Platter was 3/4 french fries (for $24.95) . The large order of clam cakes was $7.95 (for about 15 quarter sized cakes) and was very short on clams. However, the New England Clam Chowder and Onion Rings are still delish. It seems every year the quality goes down but the prices go up. Sadly, doesn't seem to be worth it anymore. read more

This place has been around for a while and is a local favorite in the Mendon/Uxbridge area. They have the best seafood around. I used to work for George's back when I was in high school and I can tell you that the owner is focus on quality. He's been known to get rid of an entire batch of fresh clams if they don't live up to a high standard. I'd highly recommend this place to all seafood lovers. Even if you don't like seafood, there is plenty of alternative selections, including vegetarian dishes. read more

Great place! No other place that can compete!! This is my go to spot in the summer, their clam strips are great! I also love that I can bring my dog with me and there is plenty of shade for her. My family and I got the bay scallop plate, chicken fingers, a burger and fries. The prices aren't that bad but they don't accept credit cards and only have a small sign to let customers know. This is literally one of my favorite places for lunch. My sister and I love coming here for cheeseburgers (I never have their fish so I can't speak to that), their burgers are my favorite burgers of any burger I've ever eaten! This is such a fun spot to come to in the summer. I usually split a thing of fries with my sister and there is usually a surplus. Went here last night. We got 2 lobster rolls and the clam cakes. The clam cakes are a beautiful fried golden brown, but trying to find a clam on these fritters is a challenge. The lobster rolls were okay, but for $15 I expected more than maybe 2 ounces of lobster meat. Overall, very disappointing and not worth the money read more
