I love George's (formally known as the Redwood). In our family, it's called either/or, depending on what name we remember first. I've been coming here practically since I was born. To this day, I enjoy coming here with family to get great tasting and great priced seafood. Although all seafood dishes are great, I also love their unique daily specials, from the fried mushrooms to their veggie burger and spicy fries. George's Surf & Turf will not disappoint. We'd gone there years ago and enjoyed it. We visited this week and the food was just OK but the amount by of food was disappointing for the money we paid. We got the seafood platter $32, upgraded to the sea scallops ( +$8.00)which increased the price to over $40.00. For $40 dollars we got only 4 fried clams, 2 fried shrimp, the scallops seemed like pieces instead of full size sea scallops and certainly not enough for the $8. upgradeand several chunks of fish. 4 stars no one is perfect even through they're pretty spot on! Food was incredible, fish and chip clam cakes and chowda all way better than iggys (coming from someone who came from there) the servers were very friendly and the food came out fast call in or walk up no card and cash only. Stopped here for quick lunch. We needed something quick, plus we had the dog with us. I had the whole clam plate . My husband had the scallop plate. The clams were very tasty! My husband enjoyed the scallops. The plate came with Cole slaw, again very good! The fries could have been a bit fresher. What a great spot for seafood that's not an hour drive. Honestly i was a lil iffy about how the seafood would be being so far away from the coast but i figured I'd give it a try. Its is all outdoor seating and of course we picked a windy cooler day and there was no was this food was gonna be eaten in my car ohh no. so that part kind of suck but that was our own fault. since this was my first time i figured id just get there seafood platter to get a lil taste of everything. it comes with bay scallops, haddock, shrimp, whole belly clams, onion strings, fries and coleslaw. Our order actually came out pretty fast i would say about 8 mins and holy crap that thing was hugeeee !!! granted it had a lot of fries but it had a ton of seafood as well. tons of scallops and clams i only had 3 shrimp thought that was ehhh. i really like how the haddock was cut into bite size pieces instead of just a giant fillet of fish. The best thing about this besides the ridiculous amount of food was it was not greasy at all. i was surprised my fingers weren't dripping with grease from touching all this seafood which was very nice. i hate nothing more than wicked greasy fried food. everything tasted great and was fried to perfection. if you order it it can definitely feed two easy. So I googled fried seafood in the NE area based on where I was in RI and this place came up 4 stars. We chose this place because of proximity and reviews. Also, because I figured the prices and quantity of food would be better than greater Boston. Yankee Lobster or The Clam Box NO WAY! Anyhow, my benchmarks for a seafood/fisherman's platter is that it have the ability to feed at least 2 people . That there be equal amounts of all the seafood on the plate (nope) there were maybe 3 shrimp( although the 3 were cleaned well and deveined). The french fries and onion rings did not overwhelm the plate . The service was good and efficient . The coleslaw was edible . They don't take cards . They charge way too much money for cards not to be accepted. I love the old school car hop service. It was great and I can't wait to bring my parents. My reasons for not giving it a five= no cards, lack of shrimp (i love my shrimp) and pricing on some things are a FORCE. read more

George's is what I think of when I think of New England Seafood. Kind of pricey, but the food is always fried and tasty. They also have good Lime Rickeys. I love their clam strips especially, and their scallops are great too. I believe they still do car hop service which is fun. Growing up, George's was the Redwood Drive In. I'm giving it a 4 because although I love their food, there have been a handful of times where I'm not sure if the clam chowder was sitting out too long, or what, but it tasted like it had gone bad and was very sour. Their fish and chips are excellent as are their onion rings. I love their onion rings the best because they're not hard batter so it's not like you're busting a crown like at some places where they let the batter harden on. Their ice cream is also delicious if you're looking for a dessert after your meal. They also have a raspberry lime ricky which I really enjoy as a drink. You can order at the window, many times there's a line, your best bet to avoid crowds is to go when they first open -not a weekend or night honestly Bc they do get very busy. Or when it's raining - but you'd be surprised how many people wait in line even with bad weather. The car hop is really cool. With the putting your lights on and off for service. This place is a gem, straight out in the middle of nomads land, perfectly fried up all the deliciousness you could ask for for a New England seafood desire. They put it together so perfect! Have been coming here for years but this was my last visit. Portions tiny on seafood platter - disguised fish bites for scallops and I wanted whole clams and got strips. My biggest gripe - I can't eat potatoes - I know I'm the only person. Who can't eat them - and I asked for one seafood platter to have all rings instead of half and half. Decided to give George's another shot with a group of friends that haven't been in years. All six of us realized its crap now not the same as the old days probably new management or something. The staff was friendly like always even with the pandemic going on. I got a seafood platter with should honestly be called a French fries platter because there is barely any seafood on it! The majority of the seafood is bay scallops, 2 shrimp, 3 to 4 clams, 4 small fish nuggets, some onion rings n a pound of oil soaked French fries. The fryer temp is cleary too low because the fries were drenched with oil. This platter honestly was waste of $26 best item I had was tarter sauce and coleslaw. Hands down best place for seafood in the Blackstone valley area. Prices are a little high but the food quality surely makes up for it. Terrible. See pics of their quarter size clams cakes. My wife got the fried clam plate which was a small portion of clams upon a pile of frozen type lousy fries. She said the clams were good but not for $22.00. I went with a cup of Manhattan Chowder which is supposed to be red tomato based. This one was more like a brown gravy broth and who puts carrots in red chowder ? The clam cakes are an absolute joke. Not even close to a real clam cake should be. They are tiny pieces of frickin grease. Threw away $33.00 here today. Our possum friend will be happy tonight though. This place is not even close to what the Redwood was. I highly do not recommend. This place is exactly what it presents itself as: drive up service for burgers, hot dogs and some fried sea food. They also have a large selection of very delicious ice cream. Ample parking, plenty of picnic tables, and for the most part friendly customers who will let you share their table if need be. Great place, awesome clams but if you want a lobster roll, DO NOT GO HERE!!!! For $15.95 it's a joke. It's a small hot dog roll with very little lobster. That price doesn't even include fries. Great seasonal seafood place... Open spring to fall. Great family atmosphere... They have outdoor picnic table seating or you can sit in your car and they will come to your car to take your order. There is a lot of open space for kids to run around... They have an odd collection of rescued 3-legged dogs fenced in behind the restaurant... I'm not sure the story on those. The food itself is inexpensive and great. The fried clams are some of the best around. My wife loves the fish & chips. It is a little off the beaten path in Mendon, MA on Rt. 16, but I try to make a couple treks a year if I can. read more

Great fried seafood! This place is the type of outdoor walk-up seafood shack you'd expect to find at the beach, but right in the middle of Mendon Mass. Prices range depending on what you get, but I got a fish fillet sandwich which was a real (HUGE) piece of fish filet that was about twice the size of the bun for only $4.95! This is my go to place for fried seafood as in my opinion the best you can find in the Milford area. Fried food is not overly greasy and the portions are genorous. Prices are on par for the market.
