I had not been to the dentist in quite a few years which I told them just as I sat down for my cleaning. The cleaning was very normal and the staff, including Dr. Peretz was very kind. However, Dr. Peretz and the dental hygienist both told me that I had Periodontal Disease. They informed me that I was past gingivitis, past stage 1 periodontitis and into stage 2, with deep pockets in my gums, some that measured 6mm. Dr. Peretz also informed me that I had 5 cavities and 2 more teeth that were on their way to having cavities. Georgetown smile charged me $80 for a deep cleaning not covered on my insurance. We then discussed the next procedure, which would be aprocedure called scaling as well as injecting anti-biotics between my gums and teeth to attack the tartar build-up. The antibiotics were not covered by my insurance and would have cost me well over $1000. He discussed this procedure might not take and we would have to go again if that was the case. Once, my gums were healthy, then we could talk about filling my cavities. My fiancee went to her family dentist and told him about the poor state of my teeth. Since I am 25-years-old, a non-smoker and had noticed nothing severe about the state of my teeth, he found this hard to believe and asked me to come in for a second opinion. When I went in, he showed me how measuring is done for the disease and what a mouth with periodontitis looks like. None of my gum pockets measured beyond 1mm, my gums were extremely healthy. As for cavities? None. So instead of a possible 7 cavities and enduring a scaling procedure requiring copious amounts of time and money, it appears I have healthy teeth and no signs of periodontal disease or even gingivitis. Odd. The potential money I could have invested would have been very tough on a teacher's salary. But the damage I could have done to my gums with this unnecessary procedure as well as the few weeks of thinking I had gum disease are quite the bummer. Please be careful about any procedures that may seem questionable. I would have ended up going through with this whole procedure had my fiancee not casually mentioned it a few days before my first procedure. read more

My first appointment was right after an ice storm hit DC and the parking lot was easy to find but a bit precarious to navigate. Once up the stairs and around the corner, I was greeted in the reception area with warm, friendly faces. My teeth cleaning and x-rays were performed with care and compassion. After a thorough review and knowledgeable discussion with the doc, the results were "no immediate follow-up needed" and I was on my way in under an hour. Thanks Georgetown Smile... I've visited Georgetown Smile now twice for cleanings. On my first visit, the dentist recommended I see a periodontist. I was hesitant, but he informed me they had one as part of the practice and I could have a free consultation the next week. I came back the next week and was presented with a $5,500 proposed treatment plan, none of which was covered by insurance (according to the estimate). I walked through this very carefully with the periodontist and receptionist to see what options there would be, and they just offered a medical credit card. Six months later, I went back for another cleaning, and have been holding off on the procedures, trying to find a way to get get coverage for them (switching plans, etc.). I once again asked and was told nothing could be done. A week after this cleaning I called back to ask about procedures which are listed as equivalents by my insurance, and the receptionist explains that the periodontists who work in their office do not accept my insurance at all (or potentially don't accept any insurance, I'm not sure). But nonetheless, the dentist referred me to his buddy in house knowing that no matter what procedure was needed, I would have to pay full price (and not telling me that!). In my mind, that's a bit of a questionable business practice. read more

Dr. Peretz has been an absolute life saver. I was referred to him by a co-worker when I told him that I had been dealing with pain for months. I walked in the door uncomfortable and eager to get things fixed. After an unplesant experience for my first root canal Dr. Peretz quickly found another endodontist to handle my second. Throughout the entire process Dr. Peretz was available and supportive, insisting that he be the one to manage my overall care and that any time I felt pain or discomfort I could always reach out to him. He handled both temporary crowns and the final permanant one as well. The dental hygenist who works in the office is also fabulous! I have had both of my cleanings for the year done already and while getting a cleaning is never the most fun experience - I think they were both as painless as possible. She does a very thorough job as well, whch is a plus! I recommend Georgetown Smile all the time and I hope people take m up on my recommendations because I can't think of a single negative thing to say about the dentist, the hygenist or any of the staff! read more

To not be all negative, the staff is really nice, the Dr. Peretz seems to have a good welcoming demeanor, and the office is nicely kept. However, when you are paying over 1,000 dollars, these things should be the norm, because other dentists sure don't mind if this one does. Put simply, this is an operation that puts maximum profit first and actual dentistry maybe third. (Second would be a nice office space). No one from any field, gets a host of negative reviews unless there is a recurrent lack of quality. The themes of overcharging and unnecessary procedures do not resurface by chance. I also was treated at this location, and of course the dentist had me pay for procedures that upon a second opinion, were unnecessary. The bottom line is that when you trust your health to a professional, your non-negotiables are trust and quality. No matter how nice the office or staff, when you feel as if your professional is being dishonest by suggesting, charging, and promoting unnecessary procedures, you are being taken advantage of. It doesn't take a PhD to recognize when you are being scammed whether its by the kid on the playground or by a fancy professional with a really clean smile. The end result is the same, the actors have just polished up their game. It blows my mind that the dentist actually has lawyers hunt down and harass posters as if we are in some third world country where we do not have freedom of speech. If your product is good, free speech is your best friend. If your product is bad you can't mask this behind threatening legal notices. Ask the lawyers if they would go to this location :) read more

I have been meaning to come on Yelp and give a great review of Dr. Peretz & Georgetown Smile for a while now. Unlike the other reviewers I have had a very positive experience with my services. First of all, I am one of those people who dread going to the dentist, and prior to my first visit to Georgetown Smile, I hadn't been to a dentist for at least 4 years! I shared this information with Dr. Peretz; and there was no judgment made, and that me feel very comfortable. I have to say that the whole staff, including Dr. Peretz was beyond exceptional in the way they treat their clients. One of the large reasons I had not been to a dentist for a while is because I do not have dental insurance, and it is hard for me to break away from work during the work week. One of the reasons I chose GS is because they are open on some Saturdays, and they are close to where I live and work. What made me finally go and see a dentist was pure vanity I am ashamed to admit. But I had two front teeth that had chips, and I was tired of keeping my mouth closed when I smiled. I did extensive research on what I needed to fix these chips, and I decided to get dental bonding because it looked like it would fix the problem and it was the cheapest solution. They put resin to fill in the chip, and it expected to last for 4 years. I went for my first visit and consultation at GS. They had a promotion for new clients. I had a cleaning, and Dr. Peretz filled in a cavity almost painlessly. I had to come back for another visit to do the bonding because my gums were too sensitive. Dr. Peretz said I needed to have 4 of my front teeth bonded for uniformity. This was really going to burst my meager budget, but I trusted his professional advice and it made sense. I was quoted $250 per a tooth, what was in the lower end of the other quotes I recieved in my research with other DC dentists (They ranged from $200 - 400 per tooth). I came back for the bonding, and Dr. Peretz filed and carved my 4 teeth beautifully! I was very happy with my experience and the result. But about a week later, one of the teeth (that wasn't chipped before) had it's bonding break off. Dr. Peretz saw me right away and re-bonded my tooth immediately at no additional cost. He had mentioned prior to the last visit that my teeth are chipped because they are a little weak. He also did suggest that the best fix for my teeth would be to get Veneers. In my research, I knew that the price would absolutely prohibit this recommendation. A few months later, another tooth's bonding fell off and left a (to me:) a huge chip. Again Dr. Peretz saw and fixed it right away, and what blew me away, he did not charge me! He again recommended the veneers, and quoted me around $1400 per a tooth, for 4-6 teeth. Again for the DC area, that is on the very low end. Some dentists charge up to $2200 per a tooth!!!! And he said he would apply what I spent on the bonding ($1000) to the cost of the veneers, what in the world of dentistry, I think is a great offer. It has probably been about 9 months since my last chip was fixed, but unfortunately 3 of the 4 teeth are chipped and jangly. I have learned my lesson, and will try as my finances allow to take better care of my teeth and see my dentist more often. It will probably take me a couple YEARS to save up for the veneers because I am only a poor young nanny :-), but when I do I will definitely go back to Georgetown Smile and Dr. Peretz's great team! Sort of on the topic, a few weeks ago I met a gentleman who is a dentist back in Argentina. I asked him what a veneer costs there, and he said about $200!!! I should probably just go on a vacation to Argentina and have my teeth fixed there, it would be much cheaper :). So what I have learned is that bonding "can" last for up to 4 years, but it doesn't mean it will. read more

Everytime I come here I feel like they are just trying to get me to pay for services I don't need. The office is clean, updated, and they aren't horrible when servicing you but I dont like feeling like I am paying Dr. Peretz' kid's tuition every time I go. I went to Dr. A.J. Peretz's Geogetown Smiles dental office. I had a real deeply decayed molar. Within 2 minutes of the anesthesia taking affect he had the tooth removed and I was biting on a small piece of gauze. Even though I only came in to get the tooth out I asked him if he could see if anything else needed to be done. He went to his next patient and came back 10min later and the bleeding stopped and he did a very, very thorough exam. He was great. He told me I needed some fillings to be replaced which I knew was true because the last dentist I went to said the same thing. I liked coming to Georgetown smiles because I get good quality fair priced dentistry. I am looking forward to my next visit with this FABULOUS Dentist! read more

This place is a total scam. I went last year when I was looking for a dentist after moving back to the area. After I was in the chair they called the insurance comapny to see what was covered. Afterwards the dentist insisted that I needed some sort of expensive treatment that was not covered and wouldn't do a simple cleaning until I had shelled out $300. I jumped out of the chair and left. Was shopping at whole foods and waiting in the line the new edition of the Washingtonian magazine titled "need a really good dentist?" caught my attention inside found Dr.Peretz at Georgetown Smile decided to give it a try since I've been looking for a good dentist close to home.happy to find out they took my insurance, Front desk staff were very attentive And were able to squeeze me in the following week. Went for my routine cleaning and checkup the hygienist was super nice and gave me the best cleaning I had since I can remember, Dr.Peretz did a complete oral exam and really took the time to explain my dental needs. I left there feeling very much taken care of and I'm excited to say that I've finally found a dentist that I can look forward to seeing the next time instead of running away from! I signed up for yelp just to write about what a horrible place this is. In keeping with the other comments, Dr. Peretz repeatedly tried to sneak in incredibly expensive procedures into my checkup without my consent. Furthermore, he claimed that things that were covered by my insurance were not, trying to get me to pay for them out of pocket, and ultimately refused to perform one of the procedures that was covered by my insurance because I did not agree to an absurd $2,000 cosmetic procedure. He was insulting, incompetent, slimey and there was clearly a reason that I got the appointment so quickly and that not another patient showed up the entire hour I was there. read more

Wow, I can't believe how many people had such similar experiences as me. I came here about a year and a half ago and he told me I had 5 cavities, which I stupidly agreed to have filled. He messed up filling one of these "cavities" so bad I ended up in extreme pain for probably 5-6 months no matter how many times he tried to fix it. He ended up telling me to get a root canal. I ended up with TWO root canals after seeing this guy that I can guarantee weren't necessary. Definitely out for your money here- STAY AWAY if you want to keep your teeth. read more

In my first visit Dr. Peretz suggested to replace all my feelings, which would cost me thousands of dollars. They even put a plan for me on a piece of paper to make it look all fancy. I decided to go for a second opinion and the doctor told me that none of my feeling need to be replaced. All of my feelings were in perfect conditions and Dr. Peretz was just trying to make money and to perform procedures that were totally unnecessary and in fact would ruin my teeth, because every time you drill the tooth you ruin more and more. Ok, I would like to start with something positive. I'm giving them two stars rather than one because they are friendly. So that's something. First off, thank you other Yelpers for your reviews and confirming what I expected was happening to me. I am not planning on going back to this place ever again. The up-sells, my God, I feel like I have to be on my guard like at a used car dealership, something I have NEVER experienced at a dentist's office. They gave me fluoride once, casually saying, "oh, we're going to do the fluoride now, ok?." I thought I was just being put on notice so I didn't choke, I didn't even think about it as I was sitting in the chair, got up to the front counter and they said, "ok that will be $(I don't remember how much it was) for the fluoride that your insurance doesn't cover." Person never mentioned it was extra. I'll take that one on myself; I'm an adult, should have known I would have to pay for fluoride treatment and should have asked, I guess. Next one was some mouthwash where I was told, "you have this problem, I'm going to give you some mouthwash that will help with that." Exact quote on this one, "I'm going to give you..." I thought, ok, they'll give me a sample like the doctor's office (and, indeed, some dentist's offices). Got up to counter, "That'll be $30 for the mouthwash." What? I'm an idiot, should have refused. I was in a hurry though to get back to work so I just paid it without thinking. I was also really distracted by the thoughts of how messed up I was just told my teeth were and by the thousands of dollars of other work he was hawking in addition to these small things (reading the other reviews, it really seems like almost everyone is a candidate for major dental work, who knew?!). I was actually really considering these additional procedures until I thought about the stealthy up-sells and read the other reviews on here. Maybe I need it, maybe not, I have no idea. One thing's is for sure, I won't be getting any of it here if I do in fact need it. If you can't trust people in the small things, why would you ever trust them in the big ones? That some people were bullied with C&D letters for posting their opinions? Don't even know what to say about that. Never again! read more

I started coming here in 2013 and I tried so hard to like it but the negatives simply outweigh the positives for me. The most important positive is that Dr. Peretz is very nice and I believe he is a good dentist. The biggest negative is that the practice is out to sell, sell, sell. My first visit I had a concern about how much I was grinding my teeth at night. Dr. Peretz sold me on a $700 night guard. He also instructed the dental hygienist to apply fluoride to my teeth, without informing me that it was not covered under my insurance and I would owe $35 at check out (I chalked this up to the fact that I should have been more proactive and asked). Another point about the fluoride - I went the same dentist for 20 years before moving here, he stopped applying fluoride to my teeth in my teens as he said it wasn't needed into adulthood. I'm not a dentist so I don't truly understand when one needs fluoride or not, but I trusted my previous doctor and was confused when suddenly it was determined I needed fluoride. On the very next appointment after paying $700 for the night guard, Dr. Peretz insisted that I was a prime candidate for invisalign (I had braces when I was younger and my teeth had shifted a bit as I didn't wear my retainer). I had had an interest in invisalign, but assumed it was for teeth more crooked than my own, but was disappointed that Dr. Peretz hadn't brought this up BEFORE I paid for the night guard. I mentioned this to him and felt a bit brushed off as he only said that I would no longer need the night guard if I had invisalign. He said I was certain to have issues with especially with my lower teeth (cavities, tooth decay, etc) due to the shifting. This really concerned me, so I signed up for invisalign. I really wish I would have pushed back on the night guard or asked for a discount on the invisalign. At the same time, I feel robbed. I trust my doctors know more than I do, and when they provide a solution to an existing problem (the night guard) or warn of potential dangers (cavities, tooth decay) I trust that they are doing so with more thought towards the patient's well-being and not with a thought towards lining their pockets with more money. The worst moment I had with this practice was when the assistant did an impression for the invisalign. She left it on entirely too long and IT WOULD NOT COME OFF. She started tugging so hard and causing me so much pain that my eyes started to water and I started to panic a little (I know, dramatic, but just imagine having a huge metal plate stuck to your top teeth for an extended amount of time and let me know how you feel). I still think it caused some sort of trauma to at least my one tooth, as I have some off and on pain in it ever since. I am not a fan of the front office staff. After each appointment, upon check-out, I schedule my next appointment. I do this because I prefer Saturday appointments and scheduling 6 months in advance guarantees I get the date and time I want. After my last appointment in August 2014, I scheduled my February 2015 cleaning. I put it on my phone calendar as I stood at the check out desk and I got an appointment card as well. The day before my scheduled appointment, I called to confirm as I thought it strange I hadn't heard anything from them. It was clear the receptionist wanted nothing more than to get me off the phone. I explained that I had scheduled an appointment for the next day but hadn't received the usual call to confirm. She told me that I simply did not have an appointment but I could make one now (there was no apology). I asked if there was anything for the next day and she told me that they had no appointments but I could get one in April. I told her that I had the appointment on 2 different calendars so I know I wasn't imagining things when I scheduled. She again told me firmly (and a bit rudely) that I didn't have an appointment and she would call me back to schedule. I never received a return call. There were a few other issues, but the above are the most prevalent. Like I said, there are definitely positives to this practice, but you have to be your own advocate. They will definitely try to sell you on everything and anything. I wouldn't choose this practice if I had a lot of issues with my teeth. If you just need your bi-annual cleaning, you would probably be fine here. I'm leaving because I feel like they drained an excessive amount of money out of me and then pushed me aside for the next sucker. I'll say it again, be your own best advocate here, because they will take advantage of you. read more

I made a review about this practice a few days ago. Since that time. Their dentist, who is a nice and fair man, reached out to me personally and we worked out my concerns and doubts. I feel much more comfortable with this practice now. The dentist is definitely highly skilled & his staff are nice when you are in their office. As long what the dentist and I have worked out remains how we have agreed it to be, I have to be honest and give him props for reaching out to me and doing everything he could to address my concerns and try to make me a happy client. I do plan on continuing to use this practice. As we all know, we must use our voices/tools to be heard, especially when we feel like the direction of our costly and important treatment may not be going the way we expect and want it to be going Thank you Dr Perez! read more

I think they do a decent job which is coming from a guy who hates dental work. I like how they have digitized their scheduling system and they're very convenient. Staff is friendly too. However, I don't trust them when it comes to selling me additional procedures. Seems like they're always offering me expensive choices that I'll be just fine without. I decline 85% of what they offer. I keep going back because it doesn't hurt when they work on me. read more

I am very impressed with Dr Peretz. He does more than the minimum required continuing education, he keeps up with the new advances in his field, and on top of it he is caring and compassionate. Was (over)due for my routine cleaning, just had it, and never actually saw the dentist. The hygenist cleaned my teeth and said "you're all set." I asked if she was the dentist, she said no. I asked where the dentist was and was told he'd ALREADY GONE HOME FOR THE DAY. He apparently had said he didn't need to see me as he'd just seen my recently (it's been a year since last I was there). Who knows what they would have done if I'd had something wrong... of course, who even knows if i have something wrong as I NEVER SAW THE DENTIST. They did cheerily offer to schedule me for another appointment should I actually want a dental exam. Oh, and I had to wait 30 minutes for this privilege. Like others here, I too have signed up for Yelp solely to review Georgetown Smile because it was just that inappropriate. read more

Awful awful experience! Never never go here! I went for a check up and was told I had twelve cavities! After using a small camera to "show" me said cavities I stupidly agreed to set up and appointment to get the first few filled. Dr Peretz did awful work. I was experiencing intense pain in the days that followed and went to schedule a follow up, but it was a holiday weekend, so I had to wait til Monday. After getting them refilled on Monday with a different composite I WAS STILL IN PAIN. I could not chew anything harder or with more texture than a banana. I went to get a second opinion and was told that none of the cavities I had filled were actual cavities! And he missed the one cavity I did have in a front tooth, bc the x-rays didn't include my front teeth. Worse dental experience of my life, and I am still dealing with fixing his crappy work! read more

I'm confused. Most of these posts refer to the dental staff offering additional treatment to benefit YOUR teeth. No one here is talking about the actual service. When I go I feel like I am taken care of thoroughly. I'm ok with them giving me options that would benefit MY teeth. The office is always clean/hygienic and the staff are friendly. Wait time is not long and we go over a synopsis of my dental situation and options for me to choose. Isn't that what all dentists, doctors etc should do? If your current dentist notices an overbite/some type of issue and does not offer options to fix it are they really doing their job? Should they stay silent until a situation gets worse? I don't know about the other people that made comments but I want to know my options. Overall, I like the SERVICE. read more

So I made the awful mistake of not reading the reviews prior to going!! I was scheduled for a routine cleaning. My insurance covers cleanings 100% this was confirmed prior to my arrival and upon my arrival. It took the dental hygienist about 10 minutes or so to set up once I was seated in the chair for my cleaning. Although it took her a while to set up the hygienist was very nice and attentive. I hadn't flossed in a few days so I gums were a little sensitive. She did a test to see if I had gingivitis and confirmed that I didn't. Once she was finished she called the doctor back. Dr. Peretz was nice but upon his entrance. He looked at my teeth and told me that I had gingivitis, then that I had periodontal disease. This struck me by surprise seeing as how I had just gone to the orthodontist and another dentist not too long ago. I also had no signs of periodontal disease. So I begin to try and ask him questions about it he plays a video and walks out. When he comes back in I ask him if he is sure that's what I have and he says yes. He says he needs to put antibiotics on my gums and have some other procedures. He also tells me that I really should be using this toothpaste that they sell there. I explain that I have invisilgn and he says that I shouldn't because of the condition of my teeth I need to wait 3 months to have filings and gum work etc. I have second opinions and this isn't the case. While he was polite I felt rushed and didn't necessarily feel like all of my questions were answered. When I got to the front the Office Manger (Amy I believe her name is (i could be wrong) - she is Asian) told me my visit would be $62. I asked why and she said because I didn't receive a regular cleaning. So I asked her what I got done and she couldn't answer. I then asked her why no one would inform me that I wasn't getting "just a cleaning" particularly since I was a new patient. She already had my card in her hand and just swiped it charging me the $62 at which time the dental hygienist came over and explained to her that I just received a regular cleaning. So she says she will refund my card. 1.) She does not apologize. 2.) She tells me that I still have to pay $5. I pull out cash (which she sees) she refunds my card $57. Which says to me that she was just going to do things her way. 3.) Upon me leaving and her confirming that she was wrong about my appointment she *still* doesn't apologize. 4.) My visit was on Monday today is Wednesday ..I have not been refunded the $57 only charged the $62. I called and asked why I don't see it on my account and she says it takes their credit card machine 5 to 7 days to refund me the money. I'm not pinched for cash at the moment but if I was this would have been a major problem for me. In the grand scheme of things I think that Georgetown Smile is in the business of selling and has poor office management. I went to Georgetown Smile because they participated in my insurance plan's discount dental program and they had Saturday hours. I paid more than $200 to be told I had two molar cavities and two other areas that needed to be filled. When I asked whether the cavities showed up on the x-rays (that I had just paid for), the dentist said cavities only show up 50% of the time. I got a second opinion at a dentist recommended by a friend and showed him the x-rays. Low and behold I do not have any cavities, neither on the exam or the x-rays. He did not recommend I get any fillings and said to continue getting dental checks every 6 months. read more

I certainly didn't have the horrifying experience some others have had, but I did not like them. My "cleaning" was done way too fast to be thorough. He also wanted me to come back the next day for $700-worth of bonding that wasn't covered by my insurance. I actually went to a periodontist after that, who said my problem wasn't that bad and I could wait. What's more annoying is that I asked for my xrays to be sent numerous times and they never did it. Plus, they started spamming my email with "updates" as if a dentist's office really has that much news that you need an email every two weeks. I am a physician and I made the mistake of coming here for a cleaning. Being in the medical field, I know when a provider is trying to run me up. During the cleaning, the dentist tried to sell me on flouride treatment, dental inlays which were really expensive, along with a mouth guard. He tried to sell me on things that paid cash to him and which made me very uncomfortable. The front desk told me my insurance wasn't covering my chlorhexidine mouth wash and would have to pay for that in cash too, which was untrue as my medical insurance paid for it fully. Please avoid this place as this dentist is unscrupulous and suggested unnecessary procedures. Please beware. read more

Today was my first visit at Georgetown Smiles. I must say how impressed I was by the doctor. He was very personable and friendly and really made me feel at ease. In addition, he made me feel very confident that he could help me. I have had a problem with eating ice and grinding my teeth which has caused additional problems. I have had visits with other dentist that say nothing is wrong when I can tell that something obviously is wrong. He looked at me for 10 minutes and made a diagnosis that I have I been suspecting for over a year. I really have hope now that my problem will be solved. His staff is great also made me feel very comfortable in an otherwise awkward situation. read more

I had a cracked filling. Unfortunately my experience was not so pleasant. After numbing my mouth and beginning work on my tooth, the dentist left me to work on someone else. I sat in the chair for 45 minutes with no clue why I was just sitting there. Then I overheard an Ambassador had come in and the dentist left me mid-work to attend to him! I sat there so long that they had to renumb my mouth before continuing my filling. No explanation. To me, this was unacceptable. And to top it off, he rushed through the rest of my work and I now have to have the filling smoothed out... highly doubt i will be returning there to have it fixed. read more

Went in for the $99 cleaning. Office was clean, pleasant and the office staff were nice. Was not aggressively up-sold on anything, I also like how the X-RAYS go right to a screen that you can see. Good service and will be returning! read more

I have to agree with the other reviewers. I generally have good dental hygiene and need a few cavities filled every so often, but dr. peretz's office diagnosed me with a periodontal infection and seemed to ignore my questions regarding my teeth. in retrospect i should have been more demanding, but leaving the office with a whole lot of cavities that need to be filled, and i'm talking like 1/4 of my mouth here, is just ridiculous. i am definitely getting a second opinion on this before i pay up for all that possibly unwarranted dental work ... too bad all the dentists i've been to in georgetown suck really hard. granted, i arrived 10 mins late to the appointment, but they were running late anyway. all in all, i felt rushed and like they were seeing things in my teeth that weren't there. and like they really needed the money. who knows, this could be a great dentist's office for some people, but i don't like feeling like a cash cow, haha. read more

I have had crowns done here as well as cleanings, scaling, and bleaching. I had 4 crowns installed back in 2008 and I felt like the dentist's cosmetic work was average to shoddy because he fused the porcelain to metal and not gold and the appearance was a bit darker on the gum. I wasn't even given an option for gold. Additionally, the teeth appeared a bit bulkier than I preferred. I just felt like aesthetically, he didn't do that well. Eventually, one of my crowns cracked. I went to Peretz and he replaced 2 of the crowns for me with better matching to my teeth overall. Prior to this, I bleached with their molded trays and syringes, so the crown color was very similar. I was feeling good about his work. Cleanings are pretty good and thorough as well. The one drawback to this office is the sales approach. This office loves to up-sell. I think they have gotten better, but there's always something-if its not fluoride, its a scaling, if its not scaling, its a bleaching, and if its not bleaching, its antiseptic. I dont necessarily need all these things, but I do appreciate a nice smile, so I do invest in it. I feel they need to contain the up-selling. I also feel that they need to do better with time management. However, I think the quality of service is pretty good. read more

I have found finding a dentist in DC with good reviews to be a difficult task. This is my third dentist in DC and I had no problems or issue with anything. I scheduled an appointment for a cleaning and an invisalign consult. I found the location and parked in one of the designated spaces in the garage. My appointment started on time as soon as I completed my paperwork. The office is not large, but for me that does not detract from the service. It is true that the rooms are not actually rooms and that the space is one large divided space, but again, this does not bother me or in any way detract from the service. The hygentist cleaned my teeth. She was personable and professional. Dr. Peretz then came in and checked out my teeth. He was also personable and professional. When discussing invisalign, Dr. Peretz wanted to make sure that I undetstood how the system works, but I was never pressured into starting. Overall, I have no complaints. read more

I don't dislike Dr. Peretz, but he does not do pediatric dentistry, despite saying that he does. I've been bringing my (now) 5 year old here for 2 years for her annual checkups. This year, my pediatrician noticed a spot on her tooth. I called Dr. Peretz's office and asked them if they fill cavities in a 5 year old's tooth and they said yes, so I scheduled an appointment. On a gut feeling, I rescheduled with a pediatric dentist who identified that it was a cavity and took care of it. Now, I examine her teeth daily. When I saw another spot, I took her in to Dr. Peretz to see if if was another cavity. He didn't even notice it when he looked at her teeth. When I asked him to look carefully at it, he said "oh maybe it's a cavity" and that I should take her to a pediatric dentist. I asked him to take an x-ray so we could know, and he said, "Oh we're not equipped to do that here" and "You should just bring her in for cleanings here and to a pediatric dentist if there's any problem." Now, given that he is not apparently able to identify problems either, I can't see why on earth I would bring her back. Ok, so bad on me for not realizing kids need pediatric dentists, but seriously bad on Dr. Peretz and his office staff for lying to me about whether they can take care of kids. We will obviously not be returning. read more

I went to this dentist probably two years ago and I feel like I'm still paying for it (in pain). I had almost the exact same experience as another posted below who was told she had cavities and then was made to pay for a mouthwash, etc. I've also never had cavities and when I went in for a check up for the first time I was told I had 6. I was also shown my cavities on a small camera. I should have inquired with a second opinion but I was overwhelmed and assumed that my dentist was knowledgeable and moral. However when I went back and got them filled I somehow only had 4 cavities which they filled. I didn't realize until afterward that that was the case and was never told what magically happened to my other 2 supposed cavities. About a week after one of my filling I was still in pain. So I went back and was told the filling didn't work and had to have a cap placed on my tooth, which I had to pay a ton of money for--when it was something that wasn't fixed properly the first time. I've NEVER had any dental issues (short of dental issues from being born prematurely, but nothing major) so this was super traumatizing. At this point I was about $4,000 in debt if not more ( on a teacher's salary) but I was a bit young and didn't really know that dental work like this had a range of pricing and materials used (also because I'd never had any dental issues) so they gave me all the most expensive stuff. I also have a permanent bridge in the front of my mouth which the dentist told me I needed to replace. This would have cost me about $10k. However by then I had had enough and was smart enough to check in with my hometown dentist on the status of my bridge. I was informed by him that my bridge would last for at least another 10 years (thank god). However, even with all the work I did have done at Georgetown Smile, I still can't chew on the side of my mouth where they placed my fillings and I'm pretty sure one of my fillings just sort of worked itself out. So I am currently researching another dentist to fix whatever is going on and I'm terrified of encountering another dentist like this one at this point. I'm still paying off the debt on the work that I had done there, which I'm not even totally sure I needed. I made the mistakes of reading reviews for this place about a year ago and there were at least ten people who wrote about the exact scenario I experienced. They were told they had a lot of cavities after never having an issue, only to find out they had none by another dentist (my biggest mistake). read more
