Honestly, I don't really like BBQ but I eat here somewhat regularly because the food is excellent. The meats are flavorful and moist. The sides complement the meats well and the portions are decent. One of my favorite dishes was their Crispy Chicken Salad (or whatever it was called) but they discontinued it. So now I get the next closest thing which is ok, I guess. I've visited and brought new customers to the Frederick location several times. My last two visits have disappointed from a food quality perspective. Service is always great. Beer is great. The mystic changed who is smoking or recipes or perhaps meat suppliers? This last visit between Christmas and New Years is my last. The pulled pork sandwich was so dry, not even their bbq sauce helped. The ribs might still be ok, as they were out of them by 6pm. Sorry Georgia Boys - you are not living up to your previous reputation in good bbq. read more

The other night we had the worst experience we've had at this downward trending restaurant. We've been coming here since they opened in Frederick. The food has stayed pretty much consistent as their prices have steadily increased. Last visit, the couple providing outside entertainment couldn't seem to get it together and kept playing the same few bars over and over and over while the guy playing guitar tweaked this knob and that dial. Unless that was their schtick, it was not enjoyable at all. Continually disappointed with Georgia Boys. Do not expect anything great when you order the brisket plate. It was literally 4 small slices of meat (4 ounces I was told) and the majority of the meal consisted of sides for $15. The service... Well, there wasn't any. After taking our order, we never saw our waitress again until she delivered our check. By that time, our two drinks were long gone and we had resorted to sucking on the leftover ice... I got tired of waiting on her, so I went to the front desk to pay my check, and thats when I saw her the third time as she stormed in from outside and said that she would take my card. This is not the first time service here was lacking. Again, downward trending. If you want over-priced, mediocre BBQ with fairly non-existent service except when it's time to pay your bill and provide a tip, then Georgia Boys is your place. However, if you want decent or better BBQ and service, take a pass on this place and find somewhere else to go like we will from now on. read more

The hostess was super friendly and joked with us as she sat us. We were on the patio which was so relaxing! You must have the brisket, ribs and cornbread! Yum!! Their Hot Ghost Sauce has great flavor, but beware! It is really hot! Great way to clear out those sinuses. We will be back! read more

I want to say the mac 'n' cheese side order was amazing. It took over the entire dish and blew it open to smithereens. I could not stop eating that. I equally loved the cornbread, which could have been a pie slice, because of its immense size. The pulled pork was decent. I had a bit of the sweet potato salad. It tasted akin to a pie. It was topped with pecans. I could not believe that it was that delicious. Parking and location might be a problem given that it is in a small town off the highway. There are two sides. I tried the sitting down section with the bar in front of me. There are a lot of television sets around. I suspect that the place is hopping when the actual dinner hour rolls around. I would highly recommend coming in the early dinner hours. read more

The best BBQ I have had since I left the state of Georgia! My favorite on their menu is the roasted chicken. It's juicy inside, and the skin is crispy. I usually pull off the skin when I eat chicken, but theirs is so crispy and well seasoned that I have to eat it. They have a full bar with about 20 beers on tap, & a few specialty drinks of their own concocting, such as the Georgia Rita, the Georgia Spiked Tea, the Georgia Spritzer, and the Southern Sweet Grass. The food is great, and it is a pretty location. The first time I went there was amazing, but I can't give it a perfect score now. There is no reason I can see to have a waitlist for a half-empty restaurant. It's unprofessional and annoying. Let people seat themselves, like at a real Georgia BBQ, and give servers territories on the floor plan. There were sometimes three people behind the front desk, harried and spending too much time turning off screen alarms. It also took nearly an hour to be served, after waiting for a table, and the whole back patio was creaking. I did a little digging. So, they don't have tipping anymore. Eighteen percent on top... A reaction to minimum wage increase? For full timers, perhaps they get more benefits (not even sure about that), but for the rest, it means they work many more hours a week to make what they used to make. That might explain some of this.... Why not just make the food a little more expensive, and pay staff better? Get rid of those annoying alarm noises. Open seating. Fix the back patio frame. read more

This is a nice little joint decent bar prices there were a lot of 5 star moments and 1 star moment in the visit... The service was fast and friendly 5 star the jalapeno sausage 5 star the cornbread 5 star.... The half chicken was over cooked and no flavor 1 star... I've been going to Georgia Boys for years and have always enjoyed. However, tonight was a different story. I'm afraid that in the current state, I can no longer recommend the place. My reputation as a barbeque enthusiast is on the line! The food is now served on trays with paper. I really don't want to eat sauce-soaked paper by accident. The portion size seemed smaller. And something was simply wrong with the potato salad. First, the potato salad arrived separately from the rest of the food which we decided was possibly because they ran out and had to make more. But when it arrived, it tasted like someone inadvertently added far too much cayenne or hot sauce. It was so spicy hot I couldn't eat it. And I'm not a heat-wimp. I suggested to the server and manager they may want to go back to the kitchen and taste it before it gets served to anyone else. They both declined. I think consistency is really important especially if you are going to tell your friends to go somewhere. I really hope this was just an off night there. They did try to make things right by offering an alternate side. read more

Came back again and want to give this place a minus rating. Serves was worse and the food has gotten worse. Not sure how that happens. This place would have burdened and crashed if there were more options for food around here. It sucks to see owners let there company's go to Sh**. Not sure why their to busy to watch what's going on in their kitchen. The staff must hate the owners to put out the food I received. Even a simple drink for my wife was a challenge. Staff was completely lost. I ordered a drink and revived what they wanted to give me. Can't believe It's this hard. Night manager kept going on about being so so so sick. Had to hear the highlights of his FLU/ Cold? I give a place two chances and this was my last. Wake up Georgia Boys and get your house back in check. We have been here many, many times over the past few years. Sometimes we get great service, sometimes we are getting up to find our server for water, drinks, napkins, etc. So we were quite disappointed To see the automatic gratuity added on every bill. If someone does a great job- or even a decent job- we will always tip 20% at minimum...it shouldn't be forced. And of course, our last time here the service was poor...and then we are still stuck with 18% tip added to the bill. Sorry, we won't be back until this is removed. read more

Is GB's open during "Social Distancing" and "Sheltering in Place"? We love their food. Believe it or not we don't eat pork or beef but always have the chicken and/or turkey. I want my husband to pick up next week for my birthday so I don't have to cook. Their sides are amazing (I don't eat the beans because of the pork but my husband loves them! ) Their fries are like crack; addicting. I consider myself a French fry connoisseur and GB's are amazing! Wait staff are great. Katherine suggested bread pudding one day and ever since then we order it. I didn't even know I liked bread pudding. Ha! In fact, it's the first thing I ask for when we walk in. I like the food and I live in Frederick so I eat here often. Over the years the quality has dropped a bit. I met one of the owner's when they first opened the Longmont location and part of the biz deal we made was food. Back then I wasn't too stubborn to admit the ribs were among the best I'd ever eaten. I truly believe you can only teach so much of your craft to an employee and the passion definitely subsides. And that's basically where GB has ended up. It's good as in the middle of great and bad. It could be better but I doubt they can afford to be better unless they strip it back. If I have a gripe it's the service. We have a favorite here that worked at a different restaurant we frequented and she is awesome but anybody but her and it's a different experience. They've never been good at making you feel welcome here and they always seem to be overwhelmed, except for the good one. Big staff running around but always in the opposite direction of the tables. Bar orders take a while, refills usually require flagging someone down and you likely will have to ask for silverware after they bring your food etc. It's a symptom of the real pros go where they can make big money so other than the one great server they've had the rest are substandard. read more

sooooooo, Georgia Boys BBQ in Frederick now has a MANDATORY 18% TIP, added to your bill as a "service charge", even if the service is not good..... sorry, BYE! We were informed by the manager servers make $12/per hour plus tips, average wage for server is $30/hr. Oh did I say BYE. sad, I like their food. We drive up from Thornton, and have many times, not to mention taken guests and recommended to many. Many other BBQplaces closer to home. And the Long Island Ice Teas are the bomb! We also found out that take out gets a 10% service charge......... Very Sad:( I must add that the food was very good and our service was up to the 18% mark. However it leaves no room for discretionary tipping for what tipping is actually designed for. In an industry that is designed for customer service this takes away service for the customer to be able to express through a tip or lack there of the level of service that was rendered for the evening. read more
