Great service and great pulled pork. I used to always get the June Bowl but if I'm eating alone I usually would get a sandwich instead. The large June bowl, though looking slightly bigger - is now almost $17. It's worth it if you're sharing w someone but not really if you're not. I got the pulled pork sandwich Elvis style with Cole slaw, pickles and jalapenos. It was very tasty. I'm always a mustard based Caroline sauce girl so that's what I asked for on my sandwich. Really feeling a brownie last week and thought their brownie was quite reasonably priced at under $3. All in all the ladies were nice, I got my sandwich fairly quickly. This is the BBQ I have been looking for. It's Memphis style, in case that's not mentioned on the overview. The hot links are spicy enough, and so far the items I have tried have been good. The front counter has been a little slow, but that's probably because I have been in at really slow times, e.g., 3:00 PM. The seating is also good. Tables are kept clean. The decor is hardwood tables with a decent amount of varnish. I think the chairs are also wooden, but I don't remember entirely . I first started eating at KT's over 20 years ago when Kirk and Tricia first were starting their business out in that crumbling old house around 60th and Arapahoe with semi trailer storage out back. They then later opened the 74th and Arapahoe location in an former Caribbean restaurant. Fast forward some 20 years later when returning to visit family and imagine the surprise to see locations in Denver and Broomfield in addition to the two Boulder stores. Meal-wise, things have not changed much since then and that's a good thing. The pulled pork 'Pig Pile' is as good as ever, especially their original 'Elvis Style', putting the side of slaw on top of the sandwich. Both the tangy and sweet sauces are some of the most distinctive I've had and are great. To be clear, it ain't Rudy's, but it's damn good! read more

We were simply picking up ice cream when I saw this place. Knowing my husband and son LOVE BBQ, I called my husband over and he went in and ordered (he is particular about his bbq). This is the REAL DEAL! The staff were friendly, let us do 1/2 and 1/2 of things - we got ribs, smoked chicken, pulled pork. My son who isn't a huge mac and cheese kid LOVED it. This was the third door I tried this afternoon. A hair past three in the afternoon, and my scrambled eggs from 10:00 AM this morning were sadly long gone. Holiday's are hard for me for many reasons. Loss, family crap, blah blah, blah, and I was so looking forward to Christmas this year. New love, new home... and...today was the first in the past three that I hadn't been knocked down with a fever. (time stamp, today is December 26, 2019) I wasn't feeling 100% by any means, but I had an appointment that got me out of the house so I'm damn well gonna head out to verify that I felt like shit...oh, and get wine. That familiar "I'm hungry" gurgle happened when I was full of needles, lying face down some 200 yards away at my acupuncturist's clinic. This was a very welcome thing because I'd been basically down for the count with no appetite over the past few days. The flu sucks. (and not in a good way) It sucks every breath of hunger out of you, rendering your mouth a mere orifice for pushing meds and fluids, and the occasional shot-o-something. So, when I pulled on door number two and they were closed, I was distraught. I went and moved down the sidewalk of the ancient strip mall across from the old Boulder Hospital to the next unit. I'm hungry, sore, beyond tired and just wanting to sit down for a bit. The "Open" sign was off, but I tried the handle. It opened. The next thing I knew a June Bowl was being made up for me to order. June Bowl = No bun pile-o-goodness. Now I'm not gluten free by ANY means, give me carbs or give me death, but today I just felt like a pile of meat mixed with a pile of taters and some jiggy good sauce over all of it. Damn. It. Was. Restaurants in Boulder are not generally known for being price friendly, Ive heard stories of people paying $10 for just a salad alone, but this place stood out with their "light menu". I was able to get good, quick service with a well proportioned lunch time meal. Just walk up to the counter and order your food. The tables and condiments are usually sticky. Which (I get) is pretty normal for a BBQ joint but I feel they could do better. Also, I'd rather get BBQ from a place that gets its meat from from sources that treat their livestock well. Unfortunately, local options for this are limited. I may have to learn to make my own. While they serve chicken, I've never had it. The pork BBQ is all I've had. Sides are simple; portions generous, and you can't go wrong with the cheezy Elvis theme. I have been to KT's many times and I generally get the pulled pork as I have tried their beef and it was not as good. So I tried their beef brisket sandwich with hopes that it would be better but still not so great. They over cook their beef and it winds up with a mix of beef and very thick crust that is more like jerky. The beef is dry and doesn't have that melt in your mouth brisket taste which it should so once again a fail for the brisket. KTs has been around a long time and this really should be improved. Awful! Drove across Boulder for lunch since it was hot and I was working hard and thought I would try this place. So I ordered the rib plate and honestly king soopers ribs are better! The fat was not rendered, seriously that is what a smoker does best! The joe rib basket tasted like they were in the oven or boiled, hard and chewy Meat did not fall off the bone, super hard texture next time I will go to Costco for ribs on the go The Mac and cheese was terrible. KT's quality has decreased over the last several years. It is, in a single word - PA-THET-IC The Hot-links are EXTREMELY dry (like they were made yesterday and microwaved a few times) The chicken is EXTREMELY dry (like it was made yesterday and microwaved a few times). The brisket is EXTREMELY dry (like it was made yesterday and......well, you get the picture) The potatoes are flavored with nothing but salt. Anyone can throw some potatoes into a boiling pot of water and season them with salt. WTF? The beans are extremely runny, though arguably have the most flavor. The rest? Not-so-much. The Texas and Memphis sauces are so runny to the point that one is eating a soup with a spoon if you want any flavor. It seems as if these guys discovered water, and are using it in everything. This is my saturday go to place but its been closed the last 3 Saturdays. It was within the open hours, no sign to explain why they are closed. So I went out to the arapahoe restaurant to get my bbq fix. They were nice and said the store on broadway should be open on Saturday. so I think ill start trying new bbq places in town since kt's is unreliable. Also, about 2 months ago 2 teens were working the broadway store and I came in, ordered, sat down to eat. I'm no expert on BBQ but I enjoyed my meal here. It was also post-hike on a Sunday afternoon and I was starving... so that may have made a difference. I ordered The Pig Pile with two sides - the cole slaw and the mac and cheese, all of which were good. Overall, a solid place to eat except for the fact that it was eerily quiet inside the establishment. My companion and I sat and ate, commenting on the lack of music and how odd it was. This can, perhaps, be one of those "hidden gem" spots for students and grad students to come, eat, and study in near silence. read more

So tell me: would you be more likely or less likely to eat a sandwich if it were entitled 'The Pig Pile'? That's what they call their pulled pork sandwich, and the name didn't deter me, but it did make me laugh... because why would you name a sandwich after something reminiscent of manure? Luckily, it didn't taste like manure. It tasted like good old tender, juicy pulled pork - if a little skimpy on the saucy flavor. KT's provides 3 different kinds of housemade sauces (Texas, Memphis, and Super Scary Mega Spicy Death.. or something like that, anyway - the idea is it's supposed to be really, really spicy) to put on your meat if the scoop they give you in the kitchen isn't enough. All of these sauces are pretty good (though the supposedly spicy one is hardly spicy at all) but they're a little watery and it's hard to pile your sandwich with them without the bread falling apart. I like their mashed potatoes (always red potatoes, and they leave the skin on). I LOVE their key lime pie - especially the crust that looks like wet sand but tastes like graham crackers and brown sugar. My only complaint is that those sides (and all sides) are tiny. All in all, a neighborhood restaurant that delivers acceptable BBQ at acceptable prices... and sometimes, when you've got a craving and only your two legs for transportation, that's all you need. read more

This is my goto BBQ place for quick satisfying food. I only get the ribs and pulled pork. Not always the most amazing juicy, tasty charred Q everytime, but pretty good most of the time. Not crazy cheap pricing, but reasonable for the portions. Love the flavor of the mashers, slaw, and the tangy sauces. When very fresh, their cole slaw is really tops! Their mini key lime pie cup is also another simple treat. I mostly take out. They have a small amount of outdoor seating, but I found it not very clean (mmm, bbq grease) and totally lacking ambience. Hooray for more great BBQ! I really like this place - it's close to my work, it's SUPER fast, and the food is delicious. I may be having a not-so-secret love affair with their mini key lime pies. I get the basket, with either the pork or chicken, and cover it in even more delicious sauce as soon as I get it to my table. The inside is charming, and the patio usually has seating available. I love KTs!!! Their menu is simple and they don't have an immense array of side dishes like many BBQ restaurants in the Denver/Boulder area, but what they do serve is mighty good. They were my caterer of choice for a grad party in the family a few years back...and what a good choice! Not a crumb was left when the feeding frenzy was over. They have all the standard BBQd meats, and side dishes such as homemade cole slaw, tasty beans, mashed red potatoes, key lime pie in a custard cup, and others I must probably be forgetting. You can check their website for the full menu. The original KTs is the one on E. Arapahoe in Boulder. I think this was the 2nd location. I know there are others, but we've only been to this one. They use disposable plates & cups & plasticware. Only the red plastic serving baskets are reusable. They always manage to hire friendly and efficient workers. So I order the Joes Basket. For $13.50 it's not a bad deal and you will leave pretty full. So for my sides I ordered the killer beans. These are an excellent take on pork and beans/baked beans. The beans are spicy and the sauce they are in is not watered down. In fact it was the best part of my meal. There are also pork bits in the mix. The other side I preferred was the mac n cheese. It was the special of the day but lacked anything special. It was rather bland and not cheesy enough. It could be improved by being swimming in cheese and being baked a bit. Just my $0.02 The BBQ. What I came for was BBQ. In my honest opinion it was not anything mind blowing. It was well cooked maybe a bit too cooked. Unfortunately the skin seemed a bit too cooked as well as most of the pork was fairly blackened. Underneath the ruined surface was succulent pig waiting to be devoured. My issue he was that the meat was not tender enough but for smoked meat it could be phenomenal with a little bit of fine tuning. The sauces are killer and my favorite sauce, Carolina Gold, was just how I like it. Mustardy, tangy and a tiny bit sweet. All the table sauces they have are also kick butt. read more

Kirk and Tricia strive to make some of the best BBQ in Colorado, and they do a fine job. Slow roasted meats (Pork, Chicken, Hot-Links) with full flavor and some excellent BBQ sauces are the main course, but be sure to get some of their special sides - Coleslaw, Black Bean Chili, Mashers, and for dessert: Key Lime Pie, and baked on-site Brownies. Picture two recent arrivals from the DC area, driving north on 75th street in the dark and hoping to see Arapahoe before we pass it (again). We've been running around all day on strange roads and still trying to get our bearings. I had a headache and was starving, so when my husband accidentally turned too soon into the gas station instead of on Arapahoe and I saw a random sign with a pig on it, I immediately cried 'look, Barbeque! let's stop!" Anything to get out of the car for a bit. We found the parking lot and trooped in to stare hopelessly at the large menu over the counter. Fortunately a bunch of college boys were ahead of us and ordering meals served in a large styrofoam cup, which seemed an efficient way of serving messy food. I got the Pig Pile, Elvis Style, while my husband, who likes to try EVERYTHING, got what may have been a custom basket of three types of meat for him to sample. The people behind the counter were very helpful, the place was warm and bright and smelling of hickory. My pulled pork sandwich w/coleslaw was about what I expected, but the meat was dry. It was easily remedied by copious amounts of their mild sauce, which was very sweet and tangy. I suppose I'm used to pulled pork arriving already sauced. Hubby was satisfied with his meat trio dinner and especially the pork. Not the best I've ever had, but certainly not the worst! It's a good place to stop that's not a huge fast food chain if you're travelling between Boulder and Lafayette but you're too tired and hungry to decide on a restaurant. It's just rather difficult to get to if you're going west - you'll have to turn onto 75th and turn right immediately into the gas station. 4pm on a Tuesday and the place was practically empty we didn't have to wait in line at all. I got the June Bowl with mashed potatoes and pulled pork. I really liked the mashed potatoes since they weren't too salty. The pulled pork was tender and comes with sauce on side as a default which is great. I love how they always have the sauce on the side. My husband was impressed with how tender and fatty the beef brisket was. I only give less star because they don't have very much variety. Wish they had more sides like green beans, collard greens, mac and cheese, sweet potatoes, wings, fries, etc. But overall, my opinion is this place is MUCH better than Moe's BBQ. read more

We had them cater a 4th of July BBQ for us so this review is for the catering only. They were very easy to order from online, and they followed up with a phone call to confirm as promised. The caterer arrived on time and set up efficiently. She was very friendly and unobtrusive. We had them them provide chafing dishes and plasticware, but not servers. The food was better than we expected for the price! The chicken was moist, and the sides were all very tasty. We would definitely use them again! read more
