The review that was attributed to me ( for one star) was not written by me. I have never had a broken window that they worked on. I have full glass coverage even on my 2000 Boxster. Gerhard's was referred to me by my "regular" shop (Huntington Motors on Woodhull Rd. & because it was a Porsche they said that they would rather not get involved with it. Gerhard's came highly recommended by them . So far they've replaced two rear motor mounts and while they we're under the car they discovered that my transmission mount also needed replacing. I have been going go Gerhards for years and Steve has never failed to give me great service for a great price. When I had a Toyota Avalon that was breaking down, they fixed it up and didn't try to sell me on parts I didn't need, unlike some other mechanics I've been to. I don't even live in the area anymore but I still take my car into his shop because its hard to find a mechanic you can trust. read more

I wish I could give ZERO stars. Absolutely disgusted. Was quoted verbally (my fault) a price. I was ultimately charged an additional 300 dollars! Giving me some BS charges. Ok fine. Fast forward a week. Getting gas, I popped my hood to fill my windshield fluid tank. The good won't close!!! Brought the vehicle to another shop. They said and I quote. "This is a sloppy job". Father and Son team that supposedly are classic Beetle experts.I can assure you that is not the case!!!!!! Had them install a generator im my 64 bug, after charging top dollar was told there is a green engine warning light on (wasnt on when I brought it there)They were allready to drop the engine and do a rebuild,sounded fishy so I took it home and called a friend from my beetle club.Turns out they shorted something out when wiring the new generator and regulator.They either lied to get a much bigger job or they dont know what they are doing STAY AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! read more

This is a second generation auto shop. Sad thing is I think the father (who is older now and does not do much in the way of repair) had integrity. His son who is running the shop now, not so much... Had a big repair done and I originally got the pricing from his father, by the time I got my vehicle out of there that price had more than doubled thanks to his son. I should have learned my lesson but I brought my vehicle back again because it is an older vehicle and I figured at least they knew the car. But I thought if I bought the parts I could keep a handle on the amount he could take advantage of me....not true. He told me the part was wrong and had to buy another. I know the part is correct and challenged him on it to which he said it was identical except for one fitting (clearly something I would have to take apart to prove) So at the end of the day the part which I paid $39 for, he billed me $250 for!!!! I understand skimming a bit on the part for delivery and convenience but that's a 600% mark up!!!!. That, with labor resulted in a ridiculous bill. As an added benefit both times I got my car back I discovered something broken that wasn't before. First time they put a nice dent in my roof, second time they cracked a taillight lens cover. So my advice to you, if you can find an honest repair shop somewhere else, go there! I know this is near impossible these days and it is a true shame these shops can't resist the urge to rape people but it's just too easy for them. They know you need the car and once its in the shop they know it's a hassle for you to pull it out and go somewhere else. In the end Gerhard's just lost what could have been a loyal customer who would have been happy to refer others if they were fair and honest. These short-sighted business tactics will never make for a truly successful business and I am sure is not how his father built that company. It's a real shame. read more

Gerhard's has been my family's mechanic for as long as i can remember and i have been personally using them on my own cars for the past ten years. Many of their customers have been using this shop since it opened 50 years ago. They have worked on everything from my fathers chevy truck, my ford explorer, my moms mini van and jeep, my sisters honda, brother-in-laws nissan, as well as my audi A4. They are experts at diagnosing a problem from mechanical issues down to complicated wiring and electric problems. They also can do custom welding and fabrication, custom brake and exhaust installations, and restoration work. I have been using Gerhard's to service my cars for several years, and they have always been honest with estimates, and timely and accommodating with service. I was in the market to purchase a high end used sports car, and requested an evaluation on a car I was about to purchase. I consider myself fairly knowledgeable and thought the car was a good investment. However, after putting the car up on the lift, both Hans and Steve pointed out details that I had overlooked. They strongly urged me not to buy the car I wanted. They realized my disappointment, and took the initiative to look online for options that were better suited for me. There was no ulterior motive, they stood to gain nothing. They simply wanted to show me the best options for my money. I ended up purchasing a car that they had told me about and it is the best car purchase of my life! Kudos to them and the professional way they do business. Highly recommend them! read more

I've been to other mechanics that quote one price and charge you another or take advantage of your ignorance. Steve is the only mechanic on the island that I've been to who is truly honest. He helped me when i needed my license plate light replaced and had to go upstate by noon that day, he was finished in 30 minutes and didn't charge me any fee for rushing. When i lost my keys he recommended the best locksmiths he knows. He will never overcharge or do anything to your car without permission. He's a great guy and this is an amazing auto shop read more
