Corner of Robertson and Cattaraugus. Zero parking available

My regular mechanic was booked solid for the next two weeks, so I had to find another for a simple oil service. German Autosport was recommended on bimmerforums and is close by. The highly rated, positive reviews are all correct. Roberto is a nice guy. He may seem cold and indifferent at first, but once you start to talk to him about cars, he completely lights up. Very knowledgeable about vintage cars. Like other reviews mentioned, you don't get a nice waiting room, a ride, or free coffee, but you get an absolute solid mechanic who knows their stuff and gives you an excellent price. I was quoted about $100 for an oil change, while other shops were around $200. He also found some other small issues, and fixed them without cost. Major issues were recommend for later with an estimate. He even gave me a discount because he liked my car.

Roberto made a mistake the last time I brought my car but he did everything in his power to fix it.

I brought my 2006 C6 Corvette in after the shifter stopped engaging. I spoke to Steven, who was very polite and friendly. He said they had diagnosed the issue, which was a snapped shift cable, and he quoted me over $1,200 to fix it. I called my friend who knows cars, and he told me it was very unlikely the shifter cable snapped, and it was most likely a broken plastic bushing which often degrades over time (my car is 20 years old). I was curious, so I also asked AI, and it said the same. My friend advised me to ask the shop for evidence of the shifter cable breaking. I called Steven and asked to see evidence of the break, and he told me he had none, and in order to take a photo of the snapped cable it would require disassembling the entire car. I later found out this is simply not true: the shift cable end is accessible from underneath the car in minutes without any significant disassembly. I also asked him if they had considered whether it could be the plastic bushing, and he said it was "definitely not" this, for some inarticulable reason. I asked if he had actually looked and checked, and he confirmed the issue wasn't the plastic bushing. Before authorizing any work, my friend told me to tow the car to his place because he didn't think these people were being honest with me, so I did. My friend identified the problem in under 5 minutes: as suspected, a plastic bushing on the shift cable end had broken, a part that costs about $10. He fixed it on the spot. I called Steven to let him know that he and his team had incorrectly diagnosed the issue, and he very politely, without skipping a beat, or changing his demeanor, told me, "that's very strange" and that he would "talk to the guys". Whether this was a genuine misdiagnosis or something more deliberate, I obviously can't say for certain. But what I can say is that I was quoted over $1,200 for a $10 fix; the claim about needing to disassemble the car to show evidence was demonstrably false; and Steven and his team, who are presumably expert car mechanics, and who said it couldn't possibly be the plastic bushing, turned out to be completely wrong. You be the judge. In any event, I have filed a complaint with the California Bureau of Automotive Repair. I have also scheduled a nice dinner for my friend who saved the day. If you decide to use this shop, definitely get a second opinion and an itemized written estimate before approving any work.

I used to live around the corner - now I live 45 minutes away and I STILL take my car there because they have continued to be the most honest and forthright mechanic I've ever met. John is a straight shooter, they will never try to sell you on something you don't need. I left there once with a super quick "band-aid" fix on my car in order to get to work on time at NO CHARGE! John said, "come back when you have time and we'll fix this correctly". But it let me get to work which was the priority. This is when I realized they actually cared about my situation, (at the time, no money and desperate to get to work), and I've never looked back. I've read some of these 1 star reviews here and I couldn't disagree with them more. I feel like I have to apologize to those people personally because I feel so strongly about recommending Complete Automotive to everyone I meet. I would even say "tell them Paul sent you!" John will know who you mean. They charge appropriately for their services, but the work is worth it. Most of their techs have been working there as long as they've been open, over 28 years, which is a credit to the integrity of the business. My most recent trip there, I went in a for typical oil change, and John noticed a couple things to consider, (valve cover leak, busted engine mounts), but not to worry about it until really needing to. I have an extended warranty on my car and these repairs were fully covered. Plus, John gave me a loaner car while mine was in the shop, at NO CHARGE. Who does that? Complete Automotive does. And to Doreen M., they do have an indoor waiting area with a TV and very comfortable couches. Highest recommendation for an auto mechanic! Tell them Paul sent you! Seriously!
