I originally came in for one of my struts to be replaced on my 08' benz since I could hear a loud knocking noise going over bumps on the road. A mechanic pushed on the hood of my car and said they were "able to hear how bad the struts were." Brian then proceeded to quote me $605 for the strut on the front right to be replaced. He also mentioned the car would need to be aligned since they had to take it to the tire shop. I figured since it was a cheap(ish) fix I would get it done the next day. When I took my car in they had it for about 5hrs, and when I went to pay Brian who was there helping me again said it was $980! Not only did he quote me wrong, or care to mention the alignment would be extra. They told me the knocking noise wasn't fixed when I went to pick it up!! He told me the lower arm control now also needed to be replaced to make the knocking noise go away completely.. I was so furious, he then told me he would take the alignment off my printed receipt so it would "lower the cost," very suspicious. If it wasn't on the receipt was it even done?? Thank god they even lowered the price to $605 since that's what I was quoted in the first place! But why wouldn't the tire shop call me or German performance about the other issue before even replacing the strut?? They said they took my car to a tire shop, and yet my tires had terrible pressure. The same week they had replaced my strut my tire pressure monitor was bright red! I know for a fact that I never got an alignment and got confirmation with another mechanic! Never bring an older foreign car to this place as you'll always have an issue when it comes to this company! read more

As a consumer I would implore you to check out the reviews that didn't get included in his overall Yelp judgment (filtered out via algorithm), there are 3 additional women that have had really bad experiences and they sound very similar to my experience. To be fair, I'm sure that they do good work, however, I believe that this company operates on an Opportunistic Basis. Wow these guys are awesome! I got by BMW 530 towed into their shop with a transmission issue. My bill was an hour labor and they told me it was good to go. There wasnt a transmission issue at all. They spent more than 1 hour on the car for sure. I spoke to 4 people for long conversations and the went on multiple test drives. I was very happy with their work! Also The put me in the front of the line because we were from out of town and needed to get back home. Great shop! read more

You know your off to a good start when two other shops refer you to the same shop. From the time I walked in the door to the time my car was done Rick's made me feel like I was there most important customer. I came in to have them diagnose what abs sensor I needed to replace. 3 other shops quoted me $100 to $125 just to diagnose. Rick is the man in this area for German car repair. Forget German Auto in SLO, they were horrible. Rick is honest, reasonably priced and best of all his staff is totally competent. I've been taking my Audi there for years -- at least 20 times for various things and routine maintenance. Always have received great service at a good price and never had to bring it back for the same issue. Also, there are always plenty of high-end cars in the engine bay, so obviously word is out. I just recently got my BMW fixed I'm so very pleased. Rick and his crew are the most honest mechanics around. Woman often get taken advantage of in this type of situation due to the fact most of us aren't interested in what's going on under the hood except that we want it fixed. To give you the perfect example, my daughter in law had gone to another shop locally, she was told she needed a new radiator a new catalytic converter the charges were somewhere around $1,500 total. I told her to take it to Rick's he's an honest man and does a Awsome job. When Rick and his crew took a look at her car she did not need a new radiator just the radiator cap and did not need a catalytic converter just a sensor and a few other issues $400... thanks Rick and Brian and crew I'll be referring you too many many people. Rick and his crew at Rick's German Performance saved our little vacation. We were traveling in our 2001 Eurovan full camper from Monterey to Pismo Beach. Our dashboard lights were going berserk and we quickly did a search to figure it out. The consensus seemed to be that the alternator was kicking the bucket. We called our mechanic and he confirmed but wasn't sure where to take it while we were on the road. We called Rick's German Performance and they told us to bring it straight in. We surprisingly made it, pulled in, shut the van down, and that was it. This is where Rick and his crew took over immediately. They stopped what they were doing to accommodate us and do their tests and checks. Being an older VW van we have to take it to particular places that can handle it. This place handled it! They were very comforting to us as they knew that we were in the middle of our trip. They did everything they could to be kind and helpful through the ordeal. Rick himself called hotels to get best prices and drove us to the hotel for the night. That's service! The van was ready to go before noon and we were back on our way.
