Best German meat market in the US Thought Chicago meat markets couldn't be beat, but GSC is the best. All the meats and sausages are made on site. This place IS as good as it gets! Sausages are totally amazing - now what they call them, what I used to call them are different names, but they are all awesome. I haven't tried the deli meats, just the different sausages. Today I also purchased some white wine sauerkraut, smells delicious. I got there late in the day on a Saturday, so all the baked goods were gone. But my house smells wonderful right now, as I'm cooking up smoked sausage, the kraut, and boiling garlic potatoes. Great place to get some real good "Wurst", Kassler, Sauerkraut etc. I was like a kid in the candy store... :-) Be aware of the "German" opening hours and they only take cash or checks. The real deal. Bütter Käse was phenonmenal. Same with Touristenwurst und Landjäger. It helped that I can speak "tourist survival Deutsch" as the lady who helped me (and was more than pleasant and gracious) didn't seem to catch all my English. Two words - Das Boot!! For anyone that has seen BeerFest, you will know what I am referring to, and this little German Sausage lets you indulge your inner alcoholic movie character by allowing actual people to order Das Boot. Now, no human being really needs that much beer - I think its more for the thrill of drinking from a 3 foot glass boot (remember to turn it - another Beer Fest reference) however it is fun, and I watched two guys get sick trying. The beer got gross and warm, but the fun kept coming. They had a fun band playing and we danced our asses off while eating soft pretzels dipped in cheese sauce and other supposed German delicacies. We had a large group with us and they allowed us to rent out the front room next to the bar. We had a great time and the staff was really nice. However, I think someone stole das boot that night and for that I feel very bad for them - I mean, who needs a 3 foot boot anyway? read more

Their prices are very reasonable, cold cuts are usually much cheaper than buying ham/turkey/salami at frys or any other store. I love all the varieties they offer here and will keep shopping here. This place is a wonder. All kinds of sausages, and meats. I'm a real push over for smoked meat. I especially like their lachs schinken which is smoked ham cut very thin. Making soup? Try it with a smoked pork haxen. Another favorite is their fleisch salat. But beware, the fleisch salat is put into a container without weighing so the price of each container may not be what you think it will be.....close but not exact. Seriously impressive. Found this place by looking for a place that sold sausage before going to a BBQ this weekend and I am hooked. This was some of the best sausages I've ever had. Granted I've never been to Germany so I don't have a good reference point other than the German Beer Gardens I've been to over the years. I have been shopping at this store for over 20 years. The quality of their products is top notch. I was born and raised in Germany and find that all their sausage and other products taste like the butchers made them in Germany. The sausage is not overly salty like many American brands. Their Bierschinken, coarse calves liver sausage, Landjäger, Leberkäse and Mettwurst is to die for. German hard rolls can be bought frozen and baked to a crisp wonderful product at home to be enjoyed with their sausage. They have some really good canned goods and all kinds of other interesting products. A trip to this store is well worth your while for quality and taste. If you happen to speak German there are two ladies who also do. All the staff is helpful and great to deal with. We drive across town to shop there and it is well worth it. Helgard M. read more

My parents have been going to this sausage store for decades and can't drive any longer so I take them on occasion. My son, granddaughter and I took them this past week and the new gal working there ruins it. It's possible she discriminates against age or maybe because we didn't speak German, but we do.:) My parents were waited on as my 6'2" son and I stood in line. Very small place and no one else was in line at the moment so there is NO way she didn't see us the entire 20 minutes we waited smack dab in front of the deli. An older man walks in and after the darker skinned lady finishes with her customer she proceeds to start to help him. Um, excuse me. Of course I said, "excuse me, I do believe we are next" to which she acts like we popped out of no where, apologizes and helps me, then my son. Between my parents, my son and myself, we spent around $120. The food is good, the service needs work. Maybe start a number system if you can't keep track of 5 customers, 2 of which were already being helped, leaving three for you to choose from, oh which all were in line. read more

Best German sausages that I ever had. They taste the same as those that I had when I traveled to Germany. And the best thing is that they will vacuum packed them so they can last for a month and taste just as fresh as long as you don't break the package. read more

Oh, this is soooo good! I am eating a sandwich that I made with fresh baked sunflower seed bread, freshly sliced headcheese, and freshly sliced havarti dill cheese that I just bought at German Sausage Co. When I made my sandwich I was sorry I hadn't thought to buy some good German mustard while I was at the store, so I settled for Grey Poupon I had at home. I also picked up tasty Kruegerman Mild Fiesta Mix (pickled vegetables) while I was there, and I am loving it all! The bread has a lovely velvety texture under the crispy crust. It was still a little warm when we got it home! The two ladies working there today have beautiful German accents, and they were very helpful and kind. I bought a number of other items, and I can't wait to try them all, but this sandwich was worth the trip alone! If you love good German food, go! You will love this place! :D read more

This is a true phoenix treasure! The two sisters are very helpful, pleasant and business-like. Sometimes when they have meat just out of the smoker, they will offer a sample, or they'll toss in an end chub (wrapped) into your bag...it seems like they know you're going to rip into one of the other packages, if they don't! Come with cash & chose practically anything...sandwich meat, sausages or the uber yummy beer-case cheese! Interesting little butcher shop/german market next to OHSO. Rather small selection but what we bought looked fresh and tasty. The smoked pork chops are to die for. Not much variety in the 'market' either but what they had looked authentically German including mustard, pickles and snacks. They also threw a little something in our bags for free. This place is AMAZING! Since living in Germany several years ago I have been searching for sausages like the ones I had there. This place is as authentic as I have found in the Valley. The service was excellent and they took their time with each customer answering questions and getting each order just right. They even included a piece of free snacking sausage with my order. I asked if they would vacuum seal the smoked sausages and they were more than happy to oblige. I ordered quite a bit for my Memorial Day BBQ and they were a huge hit! I also picked up some Milka chocolate, as it is my favorite. They have a whole case full of Milka and Ritter Sport bars as well as some other goodies. Pick up some sauerkraut, mustard and fresh baked bread and you've got yourself the best meal you will have in a long time! I will definitely be making the drive back here for my future sausage/meat needs. They only accept cash so come prepared. read more

My wife and I were stationed in Germany for 5 1/2 years when I was in the Army. We lived in Augsburg and I worked in Gablingen. I miss the food from Germany, especially the sausages. When we found this place quite by accident one Saturday afternoon and were so pleased to have found a little slice of Germany right here in Phoenix. We bought 5 different kinds of sausages as well as some spaetzle. The restaturant was kind enough to keep the sausages chilled while we ate dinner, which was outstanding. The sounds of accordian music and very happy german patrons filled the air and we were suddenly transported back in time to a restaurant we frequented while in Germany. The portions were not as large as you would get in Germany, but it was plenty and also very delicious. We will go back here many more times in the future. After all you can eat out for Italian, Chinese a steak or Mexican food just so much and then you need a change of pace. If you have never eaten authentic German fare I highly recommend this experience. Prost!! read more
