    Half chicken pie and half beef pie

    My brother told me about this place near where he works called black dog cafe that makes amazing pies. After some research (we couldn't find black dog cafe on yelp), we realized gerrard st bakery is supplying the cafe with baked goods so I'll leave my review here for now. Let me preface by saying that I am generally not a fan of meat pies (especially chicken pot pies). I find that after a few bites, there is something about meat pies - either the crust or the monotony that makes me full and disinterested quickly. We got two pies - beef and chicken. You know you're eating a great pie when each bite makes you want to take another bite! The beef pie was delicious. To me it was like a delicious beef stew, inserted into an amazing buttery pie crust that somehow did not get soggy while eating! The beef was seasoned well, carrots and mushrooms were tender. The sauce had savory, sweet and peppery notes. Amazing! 5/5 The chicken pot pie - a classic and one that I usually dread. Not this one though! Has that classic chicken pot pie flavor with carrots, corn and peas surrounded by the light flaky crust. Finished my whole portion. Price: It is well worth the added price especially given the quality and flavor surpasses any pies I've had in toronto thus far. Summary: Great pies - new gold standard as comparison in Toronto!

    Walked in because of the great smells wafting down the street. Overheard a lady ordering 6 butter tarts in addition to several other items. After getting coffee a few shops down, came back and got a butter tart, peach crumble tart, and pumpkin tart to go. All really tasty with light flaky crust. Home made flavor. Really great find!

    Ok so I actually haven't been to the location but Ive bought many of their baked goods from the black dog cafe on Kingston Rd, and everything has been amazingggg! Wife absolutely loves the pumpkin spice blondies, their pumpkin pies themselves are amazing as well. Butter tarts are killer and the sticky toffee pudding is moist and perfectly rich. Nothing is too sweet, and definitely one of the better bakeries in Toronto! Highly recommend

    Yum! So many yummy treats here. We got three tarts and they were all delicious. Butter tart, apple crumble and lemon tart. The first was a little sweeter than I'm used to but maybe it's because my family does raisins, nuts and coconut in them so there is less of the butter sauce. This place is a gem and easy to miss but worth stopping in! Their Instagram stories are drool worthy too

    California Pork Empanada

    Got a really yummy California Pork Empanada here. I also saw spicy beef, curry chicken, and veggie varieties. Make sure to get it warmed up! These empanadas have that divine oven browned butter smell! The empanada had flakey buttery crispy outer layers and soft chewy inner layers. I really really liked the pork filling, it was soft pulled pork with a rich sweet and savoury marinade. Eating it reminded me of pulled pork chimichangas with many peppers and mexican chocolate discs. Maybe these have a similar recipe? Next time I'll try the tarts; they seem to be popular.

    Please step inside and just breath in the great buttery scents that just hangs in the air. While I was there, they were baking the quiche and all I could smell was butter and the bubbly baked cheese. What an intoxicating scent. Andrea's bakery is a bit unique to the area. It sits right in the heart of Chinatown East right beside boxes of bok choi, rambutans, and litchis. I wouldnt have realized it's here but my yelp search yielded 3 gems in a small area of Gerrard and Im glad I found it. The place itself is quite plain and not a lot inside. It almost feels like a country grandma's kitchen with its wood paneling and that faded robin egg blue shade on the walls. It's mostly a take out spot but there are a few tables for you to sit down and it is clean. The windowed glass enclosures show a lot of sweet and savoury baked goods but it seems the sweets take centre stage. Service here is efficient and patient ... they need to be as it's really hard to make a decision. There's a lot of great choices in the cases. If sweets are not your thing, there's a bunch of savoury options as well. Seeing how there's at least 3 people in this small bakery working AND they're all ready to pause their work to come help, you're never really left waiting. They're really well known for more baking up the classic childhood treats you probably got from your relatives. It's not fancy with poured fondants or glazes and it might look simpler but the flavours are not. It was really hard to choose as they had thick cookies, scones, and small cute cakes that looks like an instagram version of the McCain cakes you might have had as a kid. I went with a spicy chicken hand pie, their famed butter tart, a seasonal strawberry rhubarb galette, and another tart. I have to admit, I was hoping to grab one of their lemon tarts but it seems the sold out. Spicy Chicken Hand Pie - I think Andrea's bakery definitely got the buttery crust down. This was fairly flakey and tender with a good dose of butter flavour. I liked how the crust was a nice bronze... nothing is more sad than a pale beige crust. The filling was plentiful with a good amount of cubed chicken. The sauce was also nice and coated every piece. My only reservations was that it wasn't even mild. Maybe if they called it Spiced Chicken, it would be more accurate. Definitely not spicy! Still tasty though. 3.5/5 Cherry Frangipane Tart - Another winner with the butter crust. This one was a bit more softer and tender. The filling was to the top and when you sliced through the tart, you can see all the cherries inside. I would say the fruit filling was good and not overly sweet... I liked how some of the natural cherry tartness came through. Nothing is worse than sugary filling that covers the fruit. As for the frangipane, this was interesting. It really added to overall creaminess of the tart. It was almost custard like but had a bit of soft jelly texture. I found the flavour a bit light... I was expecting more of a pronounced almond. Still a nice fruity bite. 3.5/5 Strawberry Rhubarb Galette - the rustic pie ... looks humble but it has a nice burst of flavour. Strawberries and rhubarb are tender and the fruit spilled a bit out to just give a hint of the red juices that make the filling. Similar to the Cherry Frangipane tart, it's not overly sweet but just enough to give it a dessert feel while highlighting a natural flavour. This one was a bit more tart than probably most bakeries ... I actually like that as it authentically showcases the rhubarb without hiding it under a mountain sugar. Similar crust to the others except this one soaked up a lot of the juices so it was more tender and softer. 4/5 Buttertart - Wow, this was good but also a warning that you will not need sugar for the rest of the day ... or the next. I liked how the filling flavour wasn't a typical sugar but rather a deeper caramel maple. It made me enjoy this much more. I have to admit that I love when the buttertart filling spills out and caramelizes a bit. The tart edges all had that nice crispy bruleed like detail. And the top crust of the tart is like a thin sliver of ice on top of a lake and breaking through with your fork is kinda satisfying. 4.5/5 A definite nice find on the east side of DVP and worthwhile for anyone in Chinatown East to pop in and quickly grab something delicious. I really recommend the buttertart and I would love to try the lemon tart next time.

    Had this place bookmarked for a while as had tried some of their items in the past including a lemon tart that was very good. However if one is to go by today's experience I would say some items are a miss. I picked up two tarts one being the classic butter tart and the other one was a rhubarb. Both had good crusts but the filling was off with the butter being a sugar overload and rhubarb being under cooked. I haven't tried but have heard that their empanadas are quite good. I them guess I can always update review after I have experienced first hand. So with a combined experience I have had here I would say 3 star.

    Wow, this place is amazing! We were craving something sweet after having dumplings and this did the trick! Just by walking in, it smelled delicious and everything looked so good! The tarts are amazing, not flaky but heavy and buttery, which is nice too! The portion sizes are really big and the prices are very reasonable! We only tried the Apple crumble tart ($4) and it was incredibly moist and crunchy at the same time! I kinda devoured it before taking a picture!

    What a great experience I had here. I was walking on the street and all of a sudden my nostrils and brain told me there was something good and authentic nearby: a bakery. When you know how a real bakery smells like, and you just had a whiff of a good one around, you can't ignore that signal and leave. You got to find it and try it out. And again, my nostrils didn't fail me. I walked in and right away I went to the display with all the goodies. Since I'm not a big fan of too sweet bites, I asked the girl behind the counter to guide me to those items that would have probably satisfy my growing need for a treat. And there it was my chosen one: a great size lemon tart. The crust was crumbly and not soggy how unfortunately often happens to be. When it holds the cream this well and crumbles when you dive your teeth in, that means the ingredients used are very good and that it is freshly made. The lemon cream, was tangy the right amount and just slightly sweet, exactly what I was looking for. I also needed some coffee. So I chose a medium roast from a local producer. Another great choice for me. The space is quite small (but I like it more this way). It can seats up to 8 people or 12 if one person stands at each table. It's clean and tidy. The people that work here are friendly and ready to answer to any question you may have. There is only one thing this place doesn't have: a washroom for its client. Or maybe there is but it's hidden somewhere and since I didn't need one, I haven't asked. Overall a great experience that made me want to come back again when I'll be in the neighbourhood.

    Butterscotch tart and lemon tart

    I enjoyed the lemon tart over the butterscotch tart. The lemon filling was sweet and sour, and very creamy. With a crunchy buttery crust, it was really good. The butterscotch had a very potent butterscotch taste, which was good flavouring, but it was pretty runny and got everywhere. Hence why I prefer the lemon tart cause it was less runny. Each tart is $4. It's on par with tarts at Dufflet but pretty pricey for broadview Chinatown. I like how they stride for perfection and didn't want to give us a tart that was cracked at the bottom. We wouldn't have noticed and it goes down the same, but enjoyed the attention to detail. They gave it to us for free so it's not wasted, which I also liked! I don't like wasting food.

    I have been wanting to check out this bakery for over a year now and on a nice sunny Fall day, I finally made my way to buy some butter tarts. While I was there, I also picked up a chocolate fudge cake and carrot cake and some empanadas. The butter tarts were too sugary and sweet for my liking. I did happen to go on a day where the tarts were made smaller than usual so I got two for $4 instead of just one. The crust is good so I just ate around the edges. The two mini cakes were a hit at my in-laws' house and perfectly feed small pieces to everyone. Sometimes people just want a small taste. My absolute favorite were the empanadas. I got a beef and a coconut curry one. They were the equally delicious and now I want to try the other flavors. I did also notice that they sell frozen ones. I will be back because there's so much more I want to try! The staff was so helpful and friendly.

    So I trekked over to Andrea's bakery from Milton, Ontario. Hahah, not really but I was spending a day in Toronto and took 3 transfers to get here after hearing how good it was. And let me tell you, it's good. I got a cappuccino (standard price) a spiced ginger cookie, chocolate chip cookie, and their chocolate peanut butter tart. I reheated the ginger cookie this morning and it came out warm and gooey, so yummy. Their cafe is also staked with tons of other awesome looking goodies. My only complaint is the staff. The girl helping me at the front was nice, although she couldn't make any recommendations which left me standing there for 2 minutes trying to decide on what to get. All she could say was "everything is good", which might be true but doesn't actually help me. Lastly, as I was leaving I yelled a nice goodbye and thanked all the employees for the wonderful treats in which they all stared and gawked at me without saying a word (weird ...). Then as I was walking out the door I hear the one girl say "sorry, as I was saying before ..." as if I interrupted them by telling them how awesome their stuff was before I left! A little personality would go a long way here considering their food is already on point. Food=10/10 Atmosphere=8/10 Staff=6/10

    I went it today and bought 4 tarts and a spicy chicken empanada. We tried the lemon and the butter tart already and they were delicious. Customer service was great! I read the review about the bad customer service but this isn't the case for us. The girl even showed us big apple pies in the oven when I asked "what's the smell here?". I agree the butter tart is on the sweet side. I can only ate 1/2 of it and my fiance ate the other half. Having said that, I still think the butter tart is so amazing!

    A production bakery that sells beautiful things out the front door, like butter tarts! It's worth the trip, even if it's just takeout.

My wife always judges a French Cafe by their Butter Croissant ($3.00) and she liked it! She also noticed all the  staff speak French sp it gives it even more legitimacy.  She also ordered a Flat White ($4.50) which was also good. I ordered a Plum Almond Tart ($7.25) because it was the prettiest. It was super delicious so it was definitely a good choice! Service was courteous and friendly. You place your order at the counter and bring it to your table. Someone will come around to clear the dishes when you are done It is a great place to have a nice casual time eating and socializing. They make all their food in-house in the basement. There are products for sale such as coffee beans, fruit syrup, maple syrup, smoked sauces, olive oil, scented soap, wine glassware, etc. I will definitely come back again to try other items. There is free WiFi. The neo-bisto is not wheelchair accessible since there are stairs leading up to the entrance. There are two gender-neutral washrooms. Hopped on my bike and a half hour later I was there. The friendly staff helped me by answering my question regarding eggs and which items did not have any in the recipes. This place was also super poppin' when I got there. It was earlish in the day around 10:30am and it seemed all the tables were pretty much taken. They are adding a dinner menu which is very exciting. Their pastries are phenomenal!!! Picked up a plum and pistachio tart, a chocolate mousse cake and an apple Danish for my mom. Plus a chocolate caramelized croissant. So much butter, and yet so good. Brought my container, which they happily used. The last time I visited this spot back in 2022, I vowed I would come back and take up space in that beautiful bay window seat. Yet I haven't followed through with that yet. One day. They also changed the name, since I was there last it was called Le Conciliabule Lab. Le Conciliabule means, "speak easy", as their website says. It was used back in the day to describe a place where people would come together and talk about everything and nothing. I can definitely say that happens here. What a beautiful concept, "everything and nothing". Now named Bisou, which means kiss. That's actually really simple and sweet. Since every pastry and any food item or beverage enjoyed here is a kiss for your tastebuds. Love it. Keep going team. You are amazing!
