I have been 3 times in a 4 week period (it's next door to my job). The lumpia are excellent! I have had the garlic rice and the chicken skewers and also the pork barbecue skewers. I plan on going again soon so I can try the pancit. read more

Pretty good. First time here and will be back to try more of the food. I love the staff here and were more than helpful in explaining the menu and options. They made it overall a great experience. We sat in the booth since we knew we would order more than what would fit on the regular table. The squid is amazing and a must have there. I will be back to try more. Great variety here. read more

When I visited, there was a problem back in the kitchen that made wait times long. We were told of this and understood, we were willing to wait. Thus, the stars I'm taking off aren't related to this wait time. After the problem got fixed, we were served all (but one) of our dishes super fast, which was great. We realized that we were missing one dish, so we told a person and they went to check on it, I think? I don't know for sure because the lady heard us, nodded, and left. At this point, we were hungry and just expected that it would come shortly. We're like 10-15 minutes in and still no sight of it. We made another person aware of the problem and they never came back either. In the end, we never got the dish nor knew what happened to it. I wish we were told it couldn't be fulfilled or something instead of us thinking it was somewhere in the back. Food wise, it was okay. I enjoyed the garlic rice a lot. The fried chicken was pretty good too. Our lumpia came in cold which was odd, wish it came hot. The crispy pata was way too sweet, I'm not sure what happened but I don't recall it tasting like that before. Overall, the lack of communication played a big factor in my review. Before coming here, I already felt skeptical with the restaurant because even back in Philippines i didnt like this restaurant. However, my friend insisted in coming here and I thought, that the last time I've had Gerry's grill's food was back in 2009 I think, when I was like 12-13years old. So I thought to give this restaurant another shot even though I already had a feeling that it's not gonna be good. Therefore, my friends and I drove to Houston and it was such a DISAPPOINTMENT. First off, our waitress Britney was the worse. She obviously didn't care BUT our theory was because the waiters in this restaurant doesn't rely on tips so she could care less (correct me if I'm wrong). Anyway, my friends and I had to ask for lemons 5 times! because our waitress kept chit chatting with this other employee and they kept on going back and forth with the lemons. Like why can't they just hand it to us? Since they kept going back and forth with it, they ultimately forgot to give us lemons and had to ask one of the managers to give us lemons so that we could FINALLY enjoy the food. Food was ok, nothing to be ecstatic about. We had purchased Sisig, Sinigang na Hipon, Inihaw na Pusit & this pork belly. Sisig was ok. I'll rate it 3/5. I'm a sisig person and this sisig didn't really approve my standards. For those who are a sisig lover, the sisig here doesn't really taste like it, it almost felt like t was a cheaply made sisig. Idek if that make sense but it doesn't taste authentic at all. Sinigang na Hipon -- 5/5. This was actually the best out of all the dishes we got. It taste just like how it's supposed to taste. Inihaw na pusit on the other hand tasted like flavored & microwaved "grilled" squid. Like literally,so I'm going to rate it 1.2/5. This dish has A LOT of potential because it's actually flavorful but it wasn't grilled well or maybe I should say, it was not cooked very well. To explain it better, let me just say that it was "medium rare". YUCK!! It was not worth the $14. The pork belly was pretty good also -- 4/5. There's really not much to say with this one lol. The desserts we had ordered, Halo-halo and Mais con yelo was alright. There were barely any corn in the Mais con yelo and the corn was kind of sour -- both 3/5. A lot of Filipino probably loves this restaurant but I think otherwise so I most likely won't recommend it. We enjoyed the Sinugba fresh tuna kinilaw with grilled pork belly, pinakbet ,fried tilapia (pla-pla) and chicken inasal which is marinated with Calamansi similar to lime, vinegar, soy sauce & brown sugar then grilled on a stick. Halo-halo for dessert was also real good not that sweet it is even top off with crispy pinipig (crispy rice). Service was a little slow but tolerable,full bar not open at lunch time but you can order wine and beer at the table and they do have some booth. Came her spontaneously to eat a late lunch with my mom. This place isn't like your traditional Filipino buffet. The food is cooked to order. I ordered pork sinigang and the spicy chicken wings. The pork sinigang had maybe only 5 pieces of meat and the rest was all vegetables. The pork was super fatty and could've been trimmed a bit. The tamarind flavoring was excellent though. Sour just the way I like it. 7/10 due to the amount of meat. The spicy chicken wings. Dry. Not enough flavor. Not spicy. This entree DID come with enough wings though which made up for my lack of protein from the sinigang. 4/10 Ordered the buko pandan for dessert. This was probably the best part of the meal due to it being priced well and it tasting just how it should. 10/10 Overall, I noticed that this restaurant was very clean compared to other Filipino restaurants. However it was also empty during the time I was there and I sat and ate and talked for a total for 2.5 hours. (3pm-5:30pm) I'd really hope this restaurant does a revision on their policy for PLAIN white rice not coming with any of the meals. I mean, we're Filipino. We eat EVERYTHING with rice. Seems stingy or money hungry to not provide that complimentary. Also, the prices for the food is the other reason for the rating. It's SUPER overpriced for all of the menu items. I've never seen a Filipino establishment charge the prices they are charging. Filipino restaurants are always coming and going it seems in Houston. For once, it'd be nice to see a tidy and made to order restaurant actually stick around. The food is good but be careful when ordering drinks. ONE TEABAG COST $3.00!!! We love to eat out, and so we are used to getting hot tea for a drink. When other resto will serve their tea with abundant teabags, honey, and lemon if you ask, this resto will only give you ONE TEA BAG, ONE SLICE OF LEMON AND ONE PACKET OF SMALL HONEY THAT YOU WILL USE FOR A WHOLE PITCHER OF HOT WATER for $3.00! I asked for another teabag and was surprised when we reviewed the check. But wondering how they CHARGED us another 3 bucks for that when the server did not even give me a new pitcher of hot water and other things that were supposed to come with it. A TOTAL SCAM!!! Adding on the server will rush you by cleaning the plates even if you are still eating, and they will be around you waiting and checking on your table every now and then, which made us feel unease. I visited this place 2 times and here is my personal-opinion feedback: Pros: 1. Best time to go around 6 pm and up. They have random private band performing great music while you wait for your food. 2. They have friendly staff and they also take reservation from Yelp as in peak times it's always pack with line. 3. Their popular item is Crispy Pata from most Filipinos, but I recommend trying their Pork Liempo or Grilled Squid. Their menu comes with pictures for people who don't understand item name. 4. Their attendant/waiter is very accomodating Cons: 1. Probably not cons, but If you don't like waiting then don't get discourage while waiting for your food especially on busy hours. 2. Their sisig is good, but you can still smell the gamey odor. I was told that there is way to completely remove those smell if you have enough time to boil it and add some ingredients. Overall I gave them 4 star, they have friend nice staff and good varierty of foods. Will try other items on their menu next visit. read more

While my cousin was in town from the Philippines we met up with one of her long time friends in Houston. We had a great time. I think we ordered way to much food. We ordered family style. 2 types of pancit, Lechon kawali (super huge!!). Caldareta, bbq pork, sinigang, kare kare and grilled squid (my favorite), 2 types of rolls The service portions are pretty heavy I think we ordered enough food for 4 more people. We were a group of 7 and we had so much left overs. I didn't notice till I got home from Houston that they have Red Horse Beer!!!!! For those of you who knows it's hard to get Red horse in Texas. Came here with a big group and was seated relatively quickly. The food did take a little longer to come out but that's to be expected with 12 people. Interior is pretty nice and clean. We got one dish each without realizing that the portions are HUGE. I assume everything is supposed to be eaten family style. My favorites were the pork sisig and the pancit palabok. Everything was new to me here but I wasn't disappointed by Filipino food. The Pancit Palabok is a yummy thin noodle topped with a shrimp based sauce with fried bits on top. It almost looks like cheese but it's not. It's really creamy and savory. The Pork Sisig was something interesting too. This used to be a sushi spot for us, but it is now a Filipino restaurant. I want to say this has to be on the high end because each dish was around $15+. The portions were huge and had a lot of unique flavors. These are items I had so far and would recommend: Pork Barbecue - 4 skewers, not too fatty and each bite was good. Kare kare - It had veggies, meat, and good flavor Sizzling Sisiq - It was a large amount to feed 5 of us. Garlic Rice - It's $2.50 a bowl, but worth it. I want people to know that my score for the food is 5/5 stars, 10/10!!! Whenever I can get Filipino food, it's always delicious!!! However!!! I always notice when I go to Filipino restaurants that the portion sizes are a bit on the smaller side, and the prices are WAY TOO MUCH!!! I know they are one of the few Filipino restaurants in town, but I don't think I'll be able to go as often as I'd like since it's soooooooo expensive!!! Sizzling Sisig, Lumpia, Grilled Squid and two soft drinks and my bill was nearly 65 bucks!!! For that amount of money, I could go to Korean BBQ, Hot Pot/Shabu Shabu for a similar price and eat a lot more food!!! The food is great, the restaurant and staff were awesome, nothing really to complain about except the sky high prices. I would go more often if it was 15-20 percent cheaper. Want rice? EXTRA. Want egg with your Sizzling Sisig? EXTRA. The value is a bit tricky. I really wanted to try the Crispy Pata and have Halo-Halo for dessert since the last time I had Halo-Halo was back in Japan from Mini-Stop a couple years ago. The cost would put me over, though. It's wonderful to have some good Filipino food in Houston. I've been wondering why there wasn't one for a while. I've had Filipino food in the Philippines and Gerry's is not bad. There's a lot of room, may too much room in this place (can fit more tables maybe). The decor is nice, clean, and modern. Plenty of friendly wait staff and good service. Some dishes I liked: 1. I've always enjoyed going to Gerry's whenever I'm in the Philippines. Although the Houston branch is not as good as those in Manila, it's the closest we hv to a really good Filipino restaurant in Houston. Due to covid, the restaurant has significantly less patrons. Normally, this place is full for dinner on weekdays and most especially on Friday night and weekends. My son, who's very picky w food, was happy to come here this night for dinner. His favorite is the pork sisig...good size serving for 2 people. The calamari was a little bland but tender, a very good sized serving for 3-4 people. The sauce that came with it is too "mayonnaise-y" didnt like it all. The fried chicken is my favorite! Crisp on the outside, tender and moist meat and great seasoning! The Bicol express is, As expected, Spicy....kinda too much coconut sauce though, but still good. The pansit bihon was a total disappointment. Too bland, too pale, over cooked rice noodles. I really dislike that they charge for rice even if you order an entree. Considering that "rice is life" to most Filipinos (myself included), it is almost offensive that I have to pay for rice on top of my meal. Whenever I have been, I have had my big ass stroller with me. Yet, the front of the house have yet to help me with the door. Also, the price! A little too expensive for Filipino food IMO. I was very excited to try the Filipino food in Houston as the East Coast is very lacking. I had an enjoyable brunch at this restaurant that was bustling with families, graduation parties, and birthday celebrations. When I arrived I was not surprised to see how busy it was. We immediately had a predicted 30 minute wait but were lucky to be seated after only 10 minutes. We tried the sizzling sisig, crispy pata, lechon kawali, crispy tilapia, and the beef skewers. I was a huge fan of almost everything, especially the sisig and crispy pata. The lechon was alright but I know there are so many different styles of it and I probably just didn't find the one I quite like. I also tried their calamansi juice which was pretty good, a bit sour at first but once it watered down it was delicious! The service for me was so-so because my waitress was not very nice to us. She seemed annoyed with us and my group was very polite to be quite honest. I enjoyed how one of the owners of the restaurant came up to every table to check on how we were doing so that made up for the so-so service. This restaurant is also super close to Chinatown and is in a great location. All in all, I recommend checking this place out! read more

Finally a Filipino restaurant that's a step up from your typical Filipino buffets! this place is located in an odd spot in Chinatown. Unless you are driving on the feeder road to turn right on Bellaire, you have to enter the gas station or the Dun Huang plaza to get to the restaurant. Reminds me of the upscale Filipino restaurants back in the Philippines. Lots of seating with a private party room, booth seating, a bar, and several regular tables. Menu is simple, but I can't lie--expensive. Haha, but they are made to order and are fairly big in portion size. We got the fried rice, calamari, BBQ pork, kinilaw, bistek, pancit bihon, pork sinigang, and sisig. Hands down, the pork BBQ was AMAZING. Three skewers with huge pieces of pork that has been marinated and seasoned well. Super juicy and super good!! I wish there were more skewers for the price... but man. That was pretty good. Kilawin was also good, but if you are not into raw-ish fish, then don't get it. I just love the flavors of the vinegar and onion with the tuna together. Pancit was yummm! My mom usually makes pancit canton with the thicker noodle, so pancit bihon with the thin noodle is always a welcomed change. No complaints with taste or portion size. Bistek was just aiight! Not really into all the sauce it was drowning in. I am more of a dry bistek kinda person, but it's up to you and your preferences. Pork sinigang was your standard sinigang. Nothing extraordinary. Fried rice had a weird texture. Looks like the egg is mixed in while cooking so it is soft and mushy looking. However, it does taste pretty good, especially with the crushed garlic, and it did feed my family of four so I can't complain. (Rice and garlic rice is charged extra here--which sucks.) My mom got calamari as an appetizer, which was truly unremarkable haha. I wished we had gotten the lumpia!! next time, we'll definitely get it. Honestly, I've never been a fan of sisig, so this review of it is probably biased. Our server said it was amongst the top sellers, so we got it. But as I expected, it just did not taste good to me! The added cinnamon put me off for the whole dish. But again, I am not too big on sisig so don't trust my word for it. I have heard mixed reviews but our experience here was great overall. We had great service with great tasting Filipino food that is a definite upgrade from Filipino buffets. We did also come on a Wednesday around 5:30, so that may have changed things. I rarely/never give bad reviews, but sad to say I was extremely disappointed in our experience here. We've been to the one in the Philippines and it was so good so we made our way over despite the waiting time. The staff was very nice and hospitable even through the craziness of everything, which is a big plus for me. First things first, I always order myself a mango juice in a Filipino restaurant. Already disappointed because it was so watered down it was barely mango juice. Next, We ordered the sisig, lechon kawali, sinigang, grilled squid, & lumpia. Sad to say none of these dishes were good. The squid was cold and unsatisfying. The sinigang was good at first, but became cold so fast that the soup was no longer enjoyable. Lechon kawali was very sour, which was odd and it wasn't even crispy. The lumpia shanghai was was also very sour! This was probably the most disappointing part because I've never had a bad experience with this dish in my life. It's a staple Filipino dish that no one has ever messed up for me, until now. The sisig was probably the best thing we ordered, and it wasn't even that good. We ended up just barely touching all our dishes and took it to go, but we probably won't even eat it. Lastly, we ordered the halo halo for dessert in hopes that at least this would satisfy us. We got it and it had no milk in it, so we had to ask the waitress to add it. It was ok! We used to go to Gerry's grill a lot, pre-covid, almost every other month. We recently came back and the food were mediocre. We loved the inihaw na manok, but it seems to have changed. The flavor and the serving has changed so much. It almost seems like they scraped off the meat from the chicken and what's left is mostly bones (take note: you're paying $12?? For half chicken). It's ridiculous that we have to pay for something that's not even cheap, and not even get a good quality and decent serving. I'm giving 3 stars at least since Social distancing was followed and the restaurant was clean. My previous experiences, they were lacking on the customer service, but that has improved (maybe because there aren't a lot of customers) I wrote this review in Google as well, in the hopes of them improving their business. read more

Wonderful place with wonderful staff. I'm so happy they decided to open a Gerry's Grill here. The location is in a strange place, it's like...off of the side of the Hilton Hotel but completely separate. It's in its own little area in the plaza. We got seated promptly and it looked super busy. The staff is mostly Filipino, so if you speak their language, it's nice to converse with them. I'm guessing it's a family-owned place. I believe that the menu I posted is just their Dry Run menu, so it may be incomplete. In other words, this is more or less a soft opening at the moment, but it's been open for at least a month or so I think. The food is very authentic Filipino cuisine. These meals are made to share, and not really for each person to order an entree, though I don't see anything wrong with that if that is how you like to do things. In particular, I thought that the tuna ceviche has a small spicy kick to it, I really liked that a lot. I also loved the chicken inaasal, it was grilled very well! And the sisig was amazing, it smelled super good and mixing the egg with it adds a really delicious taste! Our server was very polite, she came up to check on us a lot. She seemed to know the menu very well. Very good service. The mais con hielo was a very delicious dessert, I loved the corn and how there was a lot of it. Keep in mind to mix it. I was so excited to find a Filipino dining option in Houston that wasn't a buffet! The restaurant is very large and open. The menu is very large and has a lot of menu options. The prices are not on the low end, so be prepared for that. We ordered the Dinakdakan, which is a crispy pork appetizer in a creamy white dressing. The dressing was almost over whelming, but the we still enjoyed it. We also ordered the Beef Kare Kare. It was very so-so. The peanut flavor was also overwhelming and the beef was not that flavorful. The Lumpiang Shanghai was pretty good and you get a lot in the order. The service was not the fastest though. They should probably look to improve that. We spent way longer there, waiting for food and waiting to pay, than we should have. We will probably come back to try it again and give it another shot. Finally after years waiting, Gerry's Grill has finally opened in Houston!! Known for their classic take on your favorite Filipino dishes, Gerry's Grill is a the newest spot in Houston. Sisig, Kare Kare, pork and chicken adobo, and pancit are just a few of the items you find on their menu. Be prepared to wait, they are still in soft opening. However, let Cinderella (yes that's her name) and the rest of the staff take care of you and your family. The Lumpia Shanghai are bigger then what I am used to. However the flavor is all too familiar. My favorite dish at Gerry's is the Kare Kare. I prefer to eat it over jasmine rice. The big surprise of the evening was the fried chicken. I was impressed by the moist white meat and crunchy skin. Bring your appetite and your whole family when you come. All the dishes are served family style.
