I still generally enjoy this establishment, as the meat quality is pretty good, and the location is also nice, but my last visit was disappointing. I came for lunch for a change, and I regretted it. First off, they will not give you lettuce if you choose the lunch option. That's right.... no friggin lettuce! Like what? Lettuce is cheap! It's crazy to exclude it from the lunch option, which has now increased to $25. The brisket was super lean and a bit dry. When I requested samjang, they were out. And while they did make some and presented it to me during the meal, it was a bit strange looking. While I always appreciate a fan to draw in the smoke, this one combined with the lighting makes it a bit difficult to see the meat on the grill and check for doneness. It casts a shadow right across the center of the grill. Service was a bit on the slower side. It definitely started picking up, and even the manager jumped in to help.

Everything here was great. The meat quality is way better than most all-you-can-eat places, especially the brisket. We ordered a few appetizers to start and they were all delicious. The vibe is cool and the service was top-notch. Our waitress was amazing. She was super attentive and kept the food coming fast. She even recommend a good boba place nearby. Definitely my new go-to spot. Definitely will return back whever I am back in Houston.

They told us that it was a 45 minute wait so we decided to sit outside to be seated faster. We tried various meats but our favorites were the black angus la galbi and garlic flat iron steak. Those are literally the only meats you need to get here. The galbi is literally fall off the bone and has a nice marinade. They give you 4 at a time as well. This place hands down has the best galbi I've tried from an ayce kbbq spot in Houston. The quality, tenderness, and taste is unmatched. We also liked the garlic flat iron steak, especially since they cut it in cubes for you already. Our issue with this cut of meat is that places usually give us a slab so it takes a long time to cook, especially the inside, and it turns out being very chewy and tough. Not this one, it's cooked evenly, much faster, and has a lot more juice. I enjoyed getting their ssamjang sauce to dip the meats in in addition to the soy sauce. Banchan includes kimchi, pickled cucumber, fish cakes, sprouts, potatoes, and radish wraps. For apps, we enjoyed the scallion pancake, japchae, and ramen.

Hongdae has become one of our favorite AYCE kbbq places. They are located in the heart of Chinatown in the Dunhuang Plaza next to the claw machine stores. We enjoy the variety of options on the menu and the bright and hip interior. Parking: The Dunhuang Plaza has a lot of parking but Houstonians know this plaza gets packed fast because of how many good restaurants are in this plaza. We came on Saturday at 6 PM which is a peak time for this center. We parked in the garage by Gong Cha on the third floor. Find the forts parking space you can. Good news is all parking is free in this area. You just have to hunt for a spot. Ambiance: Hongdae has a modern feel inside and also has outdoor seating. It was cold when we went and they had space heaters on the patio. The restaurant gets loud because of the small space and hustle and bustle of the kitchen. They play modern techno music which is a change of pace for your normal kbbq experience. Service: we had a table for 8 people and they assigned 2 servers to our table and we had no issues putting in orders. We finished in close to an hour because food was coming out so fast. Very good experience with the servers here. Food: we ordered right when we sat down and food came out almost instantly. They have the classic starters like beans sprouts, spicy cucumbers, potato salad, fish cake, and pickled radish. These were all refillable as well. We ordered the scallion pancake, cheese corn and japchae as appetizers. We enjoyed the scallion pancake as it came out hot and crispy and the japchae was actually very flavorful, I would skip the cheese corn. The cheese wasn't melted enough so it just clumped up on the plate. For meats, we had the brisket, bulgogi, flat iron steak, garlic butter shrimp, LA Galbi and beef belly. All the meats were high quality. Our favorites were the LA Galbi, flat iron steak and brisket. These brisket and beef belly were fatty and delicious on the grill. The Galbi is high quality and juicy. The shrimp is pre cut in half so that makes for a nice and easy grilling experience. Wish we could've tried more meats. We finished with some grilled pineapple to cleanse the palate. Overall, we really enjoyed our experience at Hongdae and will be coming back for sure. Dinner was $36 which is a great deal for all of the food you can get!

Everything that's included in the $36 all you can eat

Came here for lunch today and it did not disappoint. It's $36 per person for all you can eat and they have a nice variety of appetizers, sides, and meats that are included in that price. My favorites were the kimchi, pickled radishes, and the spicy cucumbers and for the meats the beef brisket was the star of the show. Service was great with our server frequently coming back to check in and see if we needed more meats. The music in here is a bit loud but overall the restaurant is nicely decorated and definitely worth visiting.

One of my go to spot AYCE Korean BBQ in the Bellaire area. Came here on a cold Friday evening around 6:45pm party of 4. Wait around 30 mins to be seated. To my surprise I got one of my favorite waiter again in the same week. Ben was absolutely amazing. Great Customer service. Did not know he work here as well. I haven't been here for awhile. My favorite meat here the LA Galbi and the Beef Tongue. I also love the Chap Jae (Korean Glass Noodles) & Korean Street Corn.

Great place for Lunch, menu attached below. Lunch is 12-4pm, you get a good selection of protein and appetizer choices for what you pay compared to the many AYCE Korean eateries around

Hongdae 33 is $33 a person for AYCE. We sat outside because the tables inside apparently were all occupied. They have a wide range of meats and it's great for $33. The meats though, aren't really the best quality. The bulgogi tasted bland and the brisket was very chewy. They don't offer rice paper too. Our server was nice and pretty quick with his service. Overall: It's a typical Korean BBQ AYCE place. Unfortunately, the meats weren't as good compared to other places.

Arnol started off as patient server and ended with rushing us out. Not only were we still eating he brought and us the check he made sure he got his tip and then 10 minutes later "There is nobody here so you need to leave" at 1:30am when restaurant Hours state 2am closing. It was my friend's first time at a Korean barbecue and she got a terrible experience by being rushed out. We have never experienced a restaurant telling us to leave.

The sauce is not good and the service is slow after we ordered only Ribeye. One good dish is the cheese corn, other than that it's meh.

Michael, the owner, greeted us and took care of us! We started with the Jumbo Crab Fingers which were really good - I'm honestly not huge on seafood, so I enjoyed these a lot more than I thought I would. Ironically, I'm not big on oysters either, so I ordered the Jumbo Golden Fried Shrimp which hit the spot real good. Large shrimp, well fried, flavored, and the tartar sauce was addicting. The fries that came with it were perfectly seasoned, carrying a bit more of a cajun flavor rather than just regularly salted. My parents definitely enjoy oysters, so they ordered the Charbroiled Oysters and really enjoyed it, as well as the Uni Oyster with Quail Egg. They also got the Cowboy Lobster Shrimp Roll that was gone before I even took a second look their way. We finished the meal with a yummy, dense basque cheesecake! Every customer that came in during our time there was personally greeted by Michael, and it seemed like they were all repeat customers. It was really cool to see that kind of connection, and it really showed how much Michael cares about his customers, and how much we like his food! Indoor seating is a bit limited - all bar stool seating. I rarely comment on the music that a restaurant plays, but I quite liked it! Made me feel like I was on the bay enjoying some fresh seafood at sunset. Heard they'll be opening up their newest location at POST soon!

It's a lot more spacious than it looks and ripe with inventory that include everything from Chinese baiju to Japanese + Taiwanese whiskey (#1) to Asian based wines that are harder to find in the US. This is the good part. The not-so-great part is the fact their customer service is borderline atrocious. Phone manners are non-existent and help within the store has always been a challenge. Speaking English and Chinese has gotten me the same exact result, so it's always good to have a game plan before perusing. The other not-so-fun part is the sticker shock. Some of the items here are pretty expensive. To make matters worse, the price is not evident on every bottle or every shelf. One instance where I attempted to pay with credit card, I was asked if I could pay in cash instead. Thankfully, I had enough but somehow I still felt rushed out. But in the end, instead of feeling slighted by my experience, I am still thankful this is an option in the neighborhood. I don't know about their selection versus other similar stores, but with the size and everything, I would have to assume China Place is still one of the better options in town despite some service snafus. If in a pinch and looking to gift a bottle to someone in the neighborhood, I'll certainly be stopping by again. ___________ (#1) This is some of the best whiskey in the world. Trust me.
