Came here on a Thursday night, there was no line so we were seated quickly. Service was really good! All the servers were attentive and they would bring out our orders pretty quickly. The meat selection is quite nice, I would say it's the main reason for their price. We mainly ordered galbi. I did order the NY ribeye steak but it was too tough/chewy so we sticked to the galbi only. I'm not fond of their sides/banchan though, I've had better at other places. Main reason why I enjoy kbbq is to pair with sides so it was a bit disappointing for me as I couldn't experience that as much. The default banchan they serve is ok. I ordered ramyeon, kimchi soup, and lettuce. Can't go wrong with ramyeon and lettuce but the kimchi soup wasn't really much. Overall, it's a nice kbbq while you're in the plaza. I still generally enjoy this establishment, as the meat quality is pretty good, and the location is also nice, but my last visit was disappointing. I came for lunch for a change, and I regretted it. First off, they will not give you lettuce if you choose the lunch option. That's right.... no friggin lettuce! Like what? Lettuce is cheap! It's crazy to exclude it from the lunch option, which has now increased to $25. The brisket was super lean and a bit dry. When I requested samjang, they were out. And while they did make some and presented it to me during the meal, it was a bit strange looking. While I always appreciate a fan to draw in the smoke, this one combined with the lighting makes it a bit difficult to see the meat on the grill and check for doneness. It casts a shadow right across the center of the grill. Service was a bit on the slower side. It definitely started picking up, and even the manager jumped in to help. read more

Hongdae has become one of our favorite AYCE kbbq places. They are located in the heart of Chinatown in the Dunhuang Plaza next to the claw machine stores. We enjoy the variety of options on the menu and the bright and hip interior. Parking: The Dunhuang Plaza has a lot of parking but Houstonians know this plaza gets packed fast because of how many good restaurants are in this plaza. We came on Saturday at 6 PM which is a peak time for this center. We parked in the garage by Gong Cha on the third floor. Find the forts parking space you can. Good news is all parking is free in this area. You just have to hunt for a spot. Ambiance: Hongdae has a modern feel inside and also has outdoor seating. It was cold when we went and they had space heaters on the patio. The restaurant gets loud because of the small space and hustle and bustle of the kitchen. They play modern techno music which is a change of pace for your normal kbbq experience. Service: we had a table for 8 people and they assigned 2 servers to our table and we had no issues putting in orders. We finished in close to an hour because food was coming out so fast. Very good experience with the servers here. Food: we ordered right when we sat down and food came out almost instantly. They have the classic starters like beans sprouts, spicy cucumbers, potato salad, fish cake, and pickled radish. These were all refillable as well. We ordered the scallion pancake, cheese corn and japchae as appetizers. We enjoyed the scallion pancake as it came out hot and crispy and the japchae was actually very flavorful, I would skip the cheese corn. The cheese wasn't melted enough so it just clumped up on the plate. For meats, we had the brisket, bulgogi, flat iron steak, garlic butter shrimp, LA Galbi and beef belly. All the meats were high quality. Our favorites were the LA Galbi, flat iron steak and brisket. These brisket and beef belly were fatty and delicious on the grill. The Galbi is high quality and juicy. The shrimp is pre cut in half so that makes for a nice and easy grilling experience. Wish we could've tried more meats. We finished with some grilled pineapple to cleanse the palate. Overall, we really enjoyed our experience at Hongdae and will be coming back for sure. Dinner was $36 which is a great deal for all of the food you can get! read more

Came here for lunch today and it did not disappoint. It's $36 per person for all you can eat and they have a nice variety of appetizers, sides, and meats that are included in that price. My favorites were the kimchi, pickled radishes, and the spicy cucumbers and for the meats the beef brisket was the star of the show. Service was great with our server frequently coming back to check in and see if we needed more meats. The quality, taste and price ($33/person) cannot be beat at Hongdae 33. Easily 5 stars... ...however, our experience with service was HORRENDOUS. Since it was our first time at Hongdae, our server gave an introduction on how Hongdae operates. However, her explanation was difficult to follow because she was so soft spoken, and the loud sizzles in surround sound didn't help her case. At Hongdae, you're only allowed to order 5 dishes at a time. We placed our first order without any issues, but by the time we were ready to re-order, our server was no where to be found. In the 15 minute span of waiting for our server, our grill had been changed three times because the oil kept burning!! Despite exchanging looks between myself and several staff members, no one bothered to even smile, raise concern or check in on us. The lack of attentiveness and hospitality from the staff was severely disappointing and undermined our experience. I came here for dinner with friends around 6:30 pm, and there was already a waitlist! Overall, my waitress was attentive, and there were no complaints in the service department. Despite coming on a Thursday evening, I was surprised by how packed the place was; it was definitely very lively, especially with the K-pop and EDM playing in the background. The meal is $33 before tax + tip. Hongdae 33 is an AYCE establishment, so I had to get my money's worth from the meat. They let you order up to 5 meats per round (there are 5 rounds max) and as many appetizers as you'd like; there's also a 90-minute limit to eat, and they actually keep track, so something to be mindful of. In my group of 3, we tapped out after 2 rounds and ordered about 10 meat platters in total. Overall, the food was good, but nothing special. The portions were a bit small, and I found the meat to be very seasoned (borderline salty), and there was one order (the Beef Tongue?) that was very chewy and tough to eat which turned me off. We ordered the Korean spicy pork bulgogi, traditional Korean spicy beef belly, Texas wagyu sliced beef belly, and galbi marinated pork belly -- all of which were pretty tasty, though! For appetizers, we got the Kimchi stew (quite salty, 2/5), Scallion pancake (5/5), and Cheesy Corn (3/5; the cheese could've been more melted). Regarding the side dishes, the options were limited. I thoroughly enjoyed their fish cake. The kimchi wasn't bad, but their cucumber salad was also a bit salty, and I personally wasn't a fan of their bean sprout side dish; I think the taste of the sesame oil could've been more subtle. First thing I noticed was that the floors were super slippery. Not out of the ordinary in Kbbq places but this time I felt like I had to walk carefully otherwise I'd slip. We were seated in a corner booth which i like. Waitress was trying her best. She checked in on us as much as she could - I could tell- but still there were several times my drink was empty and she forgot side dishes. She was so busy though and had a large table of 8 next to us to attend so I felt bad for her. Our grill was changed at a good pace. Free drink refills. They really do time you at this AYCE. Most places say they give you a time limit but this is my first experience where she came and said we only had 30 mins left. They give total 1.5 hours. They let you order as many portions of 5 different meats at once. Meats were of OK quality as expected for $33 which is cheap (compared to SoCal). I've had better but you get what you pay for so I'm not going to complain too much about this. The galbi was sliced a lot thinner than I'm used to. Ribeye steak was SMALL but that was ok since we were getting full (see pic). Beef belly had a lot of fat trimmings- my plate had a soupy collection of liquid fat at the end of 2 portions. The banchan and sauces were lacking in my opinion. They only had a few options. I wish they had steamed egg and rice paper and salad (they only had lettuce). They didn't have broccoli or kimchi sides. By the time 6pm rolled around it got busy and there was a line. Music is loud but not kpop, more like electronic dance (does that make me sound old?). I went to South Korea for spring break one year with friends and we stayed in HONGDAE which was such a vibrant area of the city. So when I saw there was a KBBQ called Hongdae 33 in Bellaire, I just knew I had to visit. Parking in this plaza can be challenging because it's in the heart of many other pooping businesses, but my friend and I were lucky to get a spot right in front. The venue is on the second floor and you have the option of either sitting inside or out. If you're there on a nice evening, I honestly think sitting out is better. We couldn't put our name down over the phone ahead of time and when we got to the hostess, she took our info down and we had to wait. We took a good lap around the plaza and surely enough by the time we were inching back to the restaurant, we got the "your table's ready" text! Our server (Sebastian?) was so kind and attentive. It was a good dinner deal of about $33 for everything your savory heart could desire. My friend Cody and I were definitely brisket, pork belly, and beef tongue folk though, so we had those rounds coming! The banchan was sufficient and I was pleased by their cheese corn. The quality of the meats we ordered were excellent and I appreciated being outside more because the smoke wasn't as overwhelming compared to what it appeared like had we sat inside. We got there at 10:30pm was told that the kitchen closed in 15 mins, the server did not come around till 10:40pm then proceeded to say we were not allowed to order more then 5 meats at the same time and ask if she could do in a exception because we were not aware the kitchen closes at 10:45pm and the restaurant closes at 12am. Food was very very mid. I think the only good point is that they close late, but other than that the flavor of everything we ordered was far below other popular Korean BBQ places in Houston. First, the side dishes (pictured) were very limited compared to other places, and the taste of every single one of them was off. Kimchi was too sweet, potato salad was too bland, and cucumber kimchi had an odd flavor. Overall, not many sides to work with except the sliced radish kimchi and plain lettuce as a wrap. Second, appetizers. Corn cheese was very sad looking since the cheese was just lightly thrown on top and was not melted all the way. Soybean soup was very very salty with barely any tofu or zucchini inside. Seafood pancake literally had zero seafood. They might have been very very finely chopped and blended into the batter but we could not see anything. Finally, the meat. Galbi was good. Garlic butter shrimp was good, and that's it. All the other cuts of meat were either too salty, too tough, or too sweetly seasoned (baby octopus). The sides, the meat flavor and quality wasn't great and it being all you can eat, we just stopped eating because we didn't like it. I really wouldn't go back to give it a second try. I went to the restroom there and it needed some maintenance. There was also a drip from the pipes on the ceiling on my way to the restroom. So much food was wasted that day because it was awful. Really great AYCE Korean BBQ option in Chinatown! They have a wide selection of meats at a very affordable price. It is a great spot for late night dinners. The meats were very flavorful and tasty. Korean bbq. Banchans. Appetizers. All you can eat. Perfection for my belly. Went in at noon on a Saturday. There were a few tables but no wait. There is a time limit and I believe it starts when they start bringing food out. They bring out all the banchans so you don't have to actually order them even tho they are on the menu. You can get refills. They also have appetizers. We ordered the japchae, seafood pancake, corn cheese and kimchi soup. Everything was good and they were smaller portions. There is a variety of proteins - beef, pork, chicken, squid, octopus, and shrimp. We tried an assortment of things. We did have an issue with the meat sticking to the grill. Eventually the staff thought maybe the heat was too high and turned it down. And at some point she cooked a few things for us. My fave meat was the garlic flat iron steak and the black Angus LA galbi. Everything was good but those were my fave. I was also obsessed with the radish wraps - it gave the pork belly we ordered flavor. We ordered the Cajun shrimp which was good and had a slight kick to it. My friend grilled pineapple and sweet potato and said they were delicious. I was tooooo full. There is also one of those vent filters that suck up the smoke so you don't leave smelling like a bbq pit. Overall, def had a great experience. Decent new KBBQ spot in Houston. It's definitely geared towards the 20-30s crowd due to the interiors, lighting. No wait on a Thursday. There's parking all over the plaza, there if it's packed, there's a garage across the plaza near the supermarket. The beef quality was pretty good! I love me some LA kalbi, so I'm quite happy with the quality, not super fatty or sinewy, but just enough to give it some flavor. Very beefy and you can see allllll the marbling :D Portions are good when you order each meat. The banchan are good, the radish wraps are good. A few negatives to note: 1. Kimchi jjigae (stew) didn't quite tasty like the real stuff, it just tasted of kimchi, lots of spice, and boiled water. 2. Seafood pajeon (pancake) was probably the saddest one I've had.
