As far as smells... it sort of reminded me of Mamma Zu's but lower on the garlic scale. Honestly Gersi is a really solid Italian place... but if you want me to be honest to pick Gersi... Mamma Zu... Edo's Squid or Dinamo... I would probably still go Mamma Zu. It is a cute little spot... I was there when it was Swan Dive. Looks a little bit different had more of a romantic ambience. I went with a group of 7 girls... we made a reservation and they were very accommodating and had it all set up for our 7:00 reservation. The place was full for a Wednesday night... our food came out at a good pace though. So our waiter... never did catch his name was by far one of the most knowledgeable waiters I've ever had! The way he described the food just made me want to eat it all. He provided some great recommendations though! The mushroom bruschetta hands down one of the best Bruschetta I have ever had! The mushrooms were so flavorful and just enough juices soaking into the thick bread it was on. I probably would've been able to finish one on my own haha it was so good. We also tried the regular bruschetta but not earth shattering like the mushroom was. Regardless Gersi has totally mastered the art of making mushroom dishes! We ordered a side of Brussels sprouts which were also super tasty... it could have been a tad crisper but the flavor was impeccable. I of course had to order a pasta dish since they make their own pasta... so I went with the Pappardelle with mushrooms.... flavor was great but if I could provide a recommendation I would say make the pappardelle a little thicker... the group of girls all agreed the flavor was there but noodles could've been thicker and more al dente. One of my girlfriends got the Tagliatelle Bolognese... we proceeded to split the meals and we both agreed the tagliatelle could've been thicker as well. Flavors were good though. Overall the girls all liked our meals. I would say the leftovers of my papardelle was super tasty! My son has special needs and was having a bit of a rough day, but Emma and her associates were extremely understanding and accommodating to the circumstances. I LOVE Gersi!!! I have been three times within the past month and a half. The pasta is always mind-blowing my amazing and I love the free bread and white bean dip they provide. The tiramisu is one of the best I have ever had. I went for brunch once and got the baked eggs, which, like the dinner, was so so so spectacular. In addition to the food being perfect, the place is adorable and the service is very good. When I walk into Gersi, I feel like I'm in a cozy family run restaurant in Italy. The hostess gave us the worst table ever! We were one foot from the road, next to our car, my chair went into a sewer cap, and in front of a Hustler Hollywood store!!! I have been to Gersi several times and it is always a good experience. It has a very intimate feel and I love the outdoor seating. The food is alright, burrata is amazing especially with the bread and the lemon pasta is my absolute favorite. The aperol spritz here is also really good and they have a great cocktail selection. I have tried some other pastas, like the cacio e pepe, mushroom pasta, and the carbonara, which have been really salty and not that great, but since i've found my go to lemon pasta I have really enjoyed coming here. Would recommend but may take a few tries to find your favorite dish. Also highly recommend subbing in homemade pasta in the dishes- only a few come with homemade which sucks as it's a $5 upcharge (which seems unreasonably high) but does make a difference and adds that extra authentic feel. read more

We had linguine vangole and Pan fried chicken. Vangole was good, nice hint of garlic and olive oil. The pasta tasted homemade. But the Chicken was mediocre at best. The best part about the meal was the coffee...it was delicious. I would not recommend this place given the price...too high. read more

Why we loved it: -We could eat outdoors and social distance and the staff took precautions as well. There are plenty of seats outdoors too. -The starter bread...always a barometer. Marinara & fresh soft ricotta di pecora. I was biking 60 miles on Saturday so loading up on carbs and why not throw in the best ricotta too? -We each had two glasses of one of my favorite Italian white wines - glad they had the Falanghina grape by the glass. High acidity, dry but plenty of floral notes - seriously one of my favorites! Honestly, this was one of the best meals we've had in ages. Too bad we live in Northern VA. Service is A+++. We had a fantastic evening at Gersi last night! They were super busy, which was great to see, with both indoor and outdoor tables. We arrived and had to wait a few minutes for our reservation, which was totally fine! We ordered drinks and wine while we waited. There are a ton of appetizer and enteee options, including pasta, fish and meat. We started with the grilled polenta topped with Gorgonzola and the tomato, basil and fresh, house-made mozzarella. Both were delicious. I ordered the grilled pork chop for dinner which has a huge, 1.5 inch thick bone-in pork chop grilled with garlic and herbs served with broccoli. It was soooo good. My partner had the strozzapreti bolognese with ricotta. It was amazing. Another in our group had a lemon linguini dish that was out of this world. We shared tiramisu and molten lava cake for dessert with coffees which were the perfect ending to the meal. Service was friendly, welcoming and efficient. Brunch was delicious and our server/bartender Aline was amazing. She made a yummy Bellini and had great recommendations- French Toast with raspberry butter was so good. We didn't have to wait too long to get a table and if there hadn't been six of us we would have been sat immediately (only a few large tables). Heated patio with blankets was comfortable with the cold weather. A bit expensive but fairly priced and well worth it for the quality of food and service. Everything came out super quick. Went to Gersi for a lovely family brunch. Knowing Gersi to be a delectable Italian restaurant, at first I was confused as to why it had been chosen for a breakfast destination. I was happily surprised by the meal. The Baked Eggs Pomodoro and Eggs Parma were savory and delicious. However, I only snuck bites of each dish from my family's plates and could not have imagined eating the entire thing - the pomodoro was incredibly rich and the polenta very salty. I ordered the zucchini omelet which was subpar at best. The strawberry ricotta toast was wonderful and the bread they brought out when we were first seated was addicting. It was accompanied by a bean dip that was a great change from the typical butter. Just moved down to Richmond and wasn't sure where to find good Italian food. Found this place on Yelp and we made a reservation. Still offering inside and outdoor seating during Covid and the staff was very attentive while still wearing masks and doing all that good stuff. But, back to what matters most. The food was delicious! Home made pasta, delicious desserts and some great cocktails. Ended the night with some espresso shots with sambuca and from start to finish it was delicious! We came for our anniversary dinner and were incredibly underwhelmed. The food is bland and under seasoned, not flavorful at all and definitely not worth the overpriced amount that's charged. The honey bee drink was good, the service was good for a busy Saturday night but none of that matters when the food is "meh" at best. My boyfriend, his family, and I went to Gersi to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday on a Saturday night. I found it to be a really solid Italian place and overall nice addition to Richmond. Because it is a smaller and popular restaurant, it definitely is very busy and can get a bit noisy. If you're not into that sort of thing, I would avoid going on the weekend. The food was very good. We all ordered different entrées such as the grilled pork chop, the spaghetti al limone, grilled polenta, and pappardelle with mushrooms. I think my favorite was the pappardelle with mushrooms because the homemade pasta was simply delicious and the mushrooms were perfectly cooked and nicely seasoned. Dessert was also lovely. We ordered a tiramisù and affogato. I really enjoyed the texture of the tiramisù and the cream was much lighter than many others I have had, which was a treat. Heard good things about the food here. Went at 5:45 on a Saturday. First thing I noticed was how loud it was. Then the waitress brought us to our table and I was ready to walk out. Table to my left was less than 10 inches from ours. The ladies at the next table had to move their table a little so my wife could get into her seat. The couple on my right (another and daughter) were even closer. Our tables were less than two inches apart. As I said I was ready to walk out but my wife was fine with the close quarters and we heard the food was good. Service was good. Wife's sangria was not good. No fruitiness at all. She ordered the pasta with sausage. The sausage was beyond mild. If not for the texture it could have been a meatball. The sauce was too sugary but had a nice spice to it. I liked it; she did not. Unfortunately my chicken parm was awful. Even my wife hated it. The breaded had zero flavor and the sauce had just a little bit of flavor. The pasta that came with was fine, but again the sauce was lacking. I have no idea why there is any buzz about this place. I gave it two stars, but I could have easily given it one or none, but everyone deserves a second chance . . . . but we won't be giving them one read more

Gersi is a great spot for Italian food! I went for my birthday with this year. You can make a reservation online which is nice. We started with the bruschetta, which I loved. The tomatoes are so fresh and cut into big juicy chunks. The bread is thick and toasty. It is such a fresh yummy appetizer. Their table bread is also really good! I ordered the bolognese. It was really good and the pasta tasted so fresh. My only complaint is that I really wanted to add mushrooms to my pasta. I know that some restaurants forbid this. They offered to sauté me a side of mushrooms for $7 which I thought was steep so I declined. The pasta was great without it but I do LOVE mushrooms and wished they could put them in there for me for less than $7. My friends got the chicken and veal parm. The portions were HUGE. I of course tasted theirs and was very impressed. One of my friends subbed the traditional spaghetti side for the lemon spaghetti. The lemon spaghetti is amazing! I really wanted to like this place. We came here for my boyfriends birthday on Halloween. But had an oddly disappointing night. We were seated quickly upon entering. About 10 minutes into service, we were given waters and waited another 20 minutes for a server to take our drink orders. Our host refilled our waters 3x before asking if we had been helped yet. I get it, it's a new place and they still are figuring things out. We also had several different servers.. which was confusing. Each asking what another server had asked that just passed by. We asked about the wines on the menu, the server was clueless about the wine but we proceeded to still order a bottle of wine. We ordered the mussels and butternut squash ravioli. The mussels were okay, sauce was good. But in half of the mussels, the mussels had detached from the shell, lost in the sauce. A minute or two overcooked: little chewy. Meh. The ravioli was unremarkable. Needed more sauce. For a $100 meal for 2ppl, I had higher expectations. I'll try this place again in a few months, hopefully the kinks get ironed out. read more

I had a lovely late night dinner here. It can be hard sometimes to find a bite in Richmond after nine. The place has a great charm and was nice and quiet. The food was great (roasted garlic bruschetta, tagliatelle bolognese, fennel citrus salad). And then the panna cotta dessert! This new Italian restaurant in the old Betty on Davis location is our new favorite restaurant in RVA. Gersi, the owner, has a place in Brooklyn by the same name and decided to give Richmond a shot and we are so glad he did. We have been there for dinner and today we tried their brunch. My wife had the chicken parm sandwich and I had the French toast. They were both outstanding. Everything is made in house and you can really tell. The staff is professional and courteous. George has been our waiter twice and we could not be happier with his service. We have been telling everyone we know about this new jewel and we will be returning frequently. read more
