Fork had lots of dried food on it and when we showed the waiter he just said he would get another (which he forgot to do until reminded, and made no apology for the very dirty fork). We came here for my birthday, and I couldn't ask for a better experience. I love Italian food, and Gersi did not disappoint. The staff was extremely friendly, very attentive, and genuinely lovely. It truly felt like a great Italian family restaurant experience. The bread they start you off with was good, but I personally prefer a more crispy crust. I especially like the white beans with a small red pepper flakes kick and a good olive oil. We ordered the pear/Gorgonzola salad and the fig/prosciutto crostini. They were both delicious, I would prefer more Gorgonzola on the salad, but everything was fresh and delicious. For the main, we got the pasta Limone and rigatoni ragu with sausage and meatballs. The pasta was delicious, cooked perfectly, and I think those were some of the best meatballs I ever had. The Limone, my wife, got was also excellent. This restaurant has sadly gone so downhill in the last year or so. It used to be one of the best pastas to rival NYC, but something has changed in the kitchen. The salads are always overdressed, the vegetables come out bland and mushy, and even the homemade pasta is overcooked and drowns in its sauces. It makes me so sad because the vibes continue to be warm and convivial, and the cocktails and wine list are awesome. But the last three times I've eaten here recently... have been so disappointing. Food + drink was delicious (per usual) but the hostess needs to be fired. I made a reservation for 7:45 for the dining room and we had to wait 40 minutes be seated at our two top. The hostess kept trying to seat us outside or at the bar instead of telling people they needed to clear their tables as another reservation was coming in. She kept apologizing and said she "didn't know where our table went." I know where my table is -- you lost it! People who were sat before us had waited ~30 minutes, and someone who ordered take out was waiting an hour for their food. Once we were seated, the server was great and kitchen was fast, but at that point we had lost our appetite. Food is fantastic, 10/10 on everything we ordered. The lemon pasta is a MUST. This being said, I've been to Gersi with a reservation multiple times and they clearly do not have the space in the restaurant to honor reservations. Every time, we've been seated ~25 minutes after our reservation time. During these 25 minutes, we have to stand awkwardly in the cramped restaurant or in the cold. I love Italian food and I was excited to try this new restaurant for a while. Our experience here was a bit mixed. The bread and dipping oil were delicious, we loved it and kept going back for more. The cacio e pepe was not something we enjoyed. There was far too much lemon on it and the pasta was swimming in sauce. We ended up putting it to the side. We ordered a mushroom pasta special and that was much better. The panna cotta itself did not have much flavor, but we did love the melted hot chocolate poured on top. This place is the definition of overrated. The food was okay, but the portions were extremely small for the price of the dish. Our reservation was at 4:30PM and one of the first things said to us was "There is a reservation after yours, so you only have 1.5 hours." The entire dining experience was rushed. They gave us the check and a box for my food before I was even finished eating; it was only 5:15 PM. They treated us like they could not wait to get us out of the door. I've been to Gersi a few times for dinner and special occasions. Very quaint date night spot or an intimate place to celebrate with friends and family. The quality of the food never disappoints. I've been back to try the Bucatini again but haven't seen it on the menu :/ The meatballs veal brodo and rigatoni ragu were fantastic substitutes! Booked last minute for one of the last spots for Valentine's Day. Had an amazing server! His name is Alonzo. Gersi was accommodating, seated us quickly and made our night super special. Honestly the worst food at high end prices. Everything tasted like salt. Had to send back the pasta with butter and Parmesan cheese because it tasted like a rotten salt lick. They replaced it with a pasta with just butter, which was better received (still a bit salty) but they still charged full price for a pasta with just salty butter. Ordered one menu item that did not list tomatoes as an ingredient, a corn and cheese ravioli with sage sauce , as I have allergic reactions to nightshades. It came covered in tomatoes. After having to explain that tomatoes are an ingredient that need to be listed, they remade the dish without tomatoes. Better, but also tasted like salt. Shrimp and pasta arrived separately because of this, and was not a nice meal experience. Could have eaten more but instead I left hungry. The drinks were fine but we spent over $200 here and left with nothing but disappointment. Avoid at all costs. read more

This place is great for brunch but it is lacking in the lunch and dinner department. I went with a friend recently for brunch and we decided to try both the brunch options and some of the pasta. The French toast was phenomenal! So flavorful and light. I also really liked the ricotta and strawberry toast. I got the pappardelle pasta and it tasted like Chef Boyardee. It was not good whatsoever. I'm not sure if I caught them on a bad day and I'm definitely willing to try them again but that was not the best pasta I've had in Richmond. Couldn't be happier to have this little slice of Brooklyn here in Richmond. We usually wait a few weeks before trying new restaurants to allow time to work out any kinks, but I was too excited to try Gersi and we went only days after opening. And am so glad we did! The ambience, waitstaff, drinks, food: all of it was just incredible. Love the low-lighting of the restaurant and it really felt like we were not in Richmond for an evening. The service was friendly and attentive & while I'll have to personally miss out on the various homemade pastas, the gluten-free option was still the best I've had from a restaurant. The dining room is comfortable, so I would recommend making a reservation because I can assume word will get out quickly about how good it is and tables will fill up fast. Loved everything about Gersi and looking forward to many more visits--including brunch! read more

Delicious meal. The food and service was phenomenal and exceeded expectations I cannot wait to return.

Let me start by saying the server Sam was great and he did the best he could to save this evening. My partner and I went for our Tuesday date night and expected a memorable pasta dinner. Starter cocktails were the namesake Manhattan and old fashioned. Both underwhelming for $13 but we went with it. We started splitting the Black Salt Caesar salad ($13+)and this was nicely done. I ordered the pappardelle pasta with mushrooms ($23) and my partner had the lemon spaghetti dish ($13). We genuinely enjoy eating out and discussing flavors and inspirations. We are not cheap by any means, but still feel there is a need for appropriate value for what you get. I have noted the prices here because context and quality is key. We ordered a bottle of red ($60) for dinner to go with our pastas. Our pastas were served in a salad bowl and I was kind of shocked that they were so conservative in portion. I expected a bang of flavor since the serving was small. My partner's spaghetti was crunchy- stuck in our teeth. The pasta was dry and the lemon sauce or jus had not really connected to the pasta. And it was room temp. (Insert sad face). Mine was hot, but limited in flavor and underwhelming. We told Sam - he took it back to the kitchen- I watched them all taste it and agree- and that was that. Nothing replaced. The $13 removed from the check and that was that. Being that my partner now didn't have dinner and we couldn't understand what was happening - we asked for the check which was $130! Moral of the story- we get it, times are challenging in supply chain- in staffing- in finding employees who care about great product. We work in the business and empathize with the struggle. The big thing that is missing is the care for the experience. Pricing does not match the value of the product. It is more than crunchy pasta. It's about awareness of the space you've created for people to have a moment in their lives with your food. We are open to giving places second tries, but this won't be one of those moments. How have I missed this gem? I started with the most delightful rose margarita. The bartender suggested a crisp Montecucco Vermentino that perfectly complimented the Grilled Polenta entree. And wow. The polenta was buttery, perfectly salted with balsamic vinegar, topped with wilted fennel, prosciutto and Parmesan (or some other hard cheese). What a gem!!! This was our post-Valentine's Day dinner out....and the place was still booked. We had reservations to sit at the bar- no problem. The bartenders were attentive and the service was great. For cocktails; we ordered Gersi Manhattan and Italian Old Fashion- both really well made. Appetizers; we ordered grilled calamari (no breading) and grilled asparagus -the asparagus won my vote. Entree; we were spoiled for choice as everything looked appealing. We ordered homemade tagatelli with meat Raghu sauce... Totally yummy. All these dishes were enough to share. But wait!! There's dessert! Tiramisu and decaf coffee (with shot of Frangellica) was the perfect end to our meal! I ate at this restaurant a second time on a quiet weeknight. I tried other dishes in the menu and a different red wine by the bottle. Overall my views remain the same! I wasn't a fan of the Chianti bottle we bought but then again, probably related to our wine choice and less related to poor quality wine. The seasonal pasta dishes are excellent! read more

We were seated outside, and it was really really cold, but the server was very accommodating and offered us blankets. I got the homemade pappardelle and it was amazing. You could just tell that the pasta was made in house. There was a little bit of a wait, but that is to be expected, and I definitely recommend getting a reservation if you're going on the weekends. read more

I ordered takeout via door dash and the food was phenomenal. The chicken parmigiana is what I got and it was DELICIOUS! It was enough food to share with my boyfriend and he had the same thoughts as me. We both really enjoyed the entree. I also had the fig and prosciutto crostini. It was very good! However, it's more of an acquired taste. I would recommend this place to anyone who loves pasta! Definitely will be going here again. Amazing! Our party of five had a reservation at Gersi for 7 p.m., we were not seated until about 7:30 p.m. The patrons seated at the table reserved for us were ordering items when we arrived at 7 p.m. The restaurant was very busy. I understand stuff like this happens, but it was a little irritating after 30 minutes passed and the three patrons were still at the table. However, once seated the service was great! As far as smells... it sort of reminded me of Mamma Zu's but lower on the garlic scale. Honestly Gersi is a really solid Italian place... but if you want me to be honest to pick Gersi... Mamma Zu... Edo's Squid or Dinamo... I would probably still go Mamma Zu. It is a cute little spot... I was there when it was Swan Dive. Looks a little bit different had more of a romantic ambience. I went with a group of 7 girls... we made a reservation and they were very accommodating and had it all set up for our 7:00 reservation. The place was full for a Wednesday night... our food came out at a good pace though. So our waiter... never did catch his name was by far one of the most knowledgeable waiters I've ever had! The way he described the food just made me want to eat it all. He provided some great recommendations though! The mushroom bruschetta hands down one of the best Bruschetta I have ever had! The mushrooms were so flavorful and just enough juices soaking into the thick bread it was on. I probably would've been able to finish one on my own haha it was so good. We also tried the regular bruschetta but not earth shattering like the mushroom was. Regardless Gersi has totally mastered the art of making mushroom dishes! We ordered a side of Brussels sprouts which were also super tasty... it could have been a tad crisper but the flavor was impeccable. I of course had to order a pasta dish since they make their own pasta... so I went with the Pappardelle with mushrooms.... flavor was great but if I could provide a recommendation I would say make the pappardelle a little thicker... the group of girls all agreed the flavor was there but noodles could've been thicker and more al dente. One of my girlfriends got the Tagliatelle Bolognese... we proceeded to split the meals and we both agreed the tagliatelle could've been thicker as well. Flavors were good though. Overall the girls all liked our meals. I would say the leftovers of my papardelle was super tasty! I had a bit of the Tiramisu which they make in house... good but my mom's and Mamma Zu's still beats it:) Overall I would be back and maybe try more of an entree as opposed to a pasta dish... it's just so hard not to order pasta sometimes... it is my weakness : loop read more

Food is good but I wouldn't say great. Wish they had better appetizers. Their drink specials seem to have floral flavors which I don't like and don't go well with their pasta. Lighting level at night is real low which makes it hard to see the menu. But the noise when the place is full is horrible. You have to scream so the people at your table can hear you. Considering food is good, not great, I think it's very PRICY for pasta only dishes. read more

My son has special needs and was having a bit of a rough day, but Emma and her associates were extremely understanding and accommodating to the circumstances. I LOVE Gersi!!! I have been three times within the past month and a half. The pasta is always mind-blowing my amazing and I love the free bread and white bean dip they provide. The tiramisu is one of the best I have ever had. I went for brunch once and got the baked eggs, which, like the dinner, was so so so spectacular. In addition to the food being perfect, the place is adorable and the service is very good. When I walk into Gersi, I feel like I'm in a cozy family run restaurant in Italy.
