I'll start by saying that I've I've had several friends who have been to Gersi and loved it...unfortunately, our experience was not so extraordinary. The service left a bit to be desired, with it taking someone almost 20 minutes to come and get our drink orders after we sat down. The food was fine, there was nothing bad about it, but it wasn't anything extraordinary or near worth the price. My take-out order was a most efficient online process, which included my preferred pick-up time. When I arrived, my order was bagged and waiting for me. The hot food was still warm when I plated it at home. Everything was tasty, only wished I had asked for salad dressing on the side. My issue with this restaurant, which is very small, is that the owner or manager this evening decided to hold a staff meeting at the bar!!! After a 10 min rant to her employees about how she wanted the service to be run and the costumer experience, she left. While she berated the staff, she yelled twice to have the music turned off! Guess she didn't see or care about the costumers there, as her loud voice droned on just about 6 FEET FROM OUR TABLE! Flew over to Richmond for a job interview and had dinner at Gersi. Being from New York, I'm super particular about pizza and pasta so I was skeptical about eating Italian food in Richmond. The place was packed when we arrived. It had a lively atmosphere, but be warned the space is a bit tight. We had made a reservation, but they couldn't find our names, but our hostess was super apologetic. We hung out at the bar area and got our table in about 20 minutes, not bad. We ordered 4 types of pasta and they were all delicious! We got 2 pastas with red sauces and 2 pastas with white sauces. The Pasta Limone was a crowd favorite. Super impressed with the texture of the pasta, it was cooked perfectly and the flavors of all of the sauces were seasoned well. 10/10 will be back and if everything goes well with my job opportunity, this will be a regular dinner spot for me for sure. read more

Been to their Brooklyn location so I was hoping that this flavor had made its way south. And boy was I pleased to find it had. The chicken parm is excellent and not just your average parm. This chicken is so juicy. The meatballs are just like the originals on Court street. And for wine you can't go wrong with the Chianti. My wife had their ginger margarita (maybe 2-3). I was excited to try Gersi. Sadly, it was nothing special. We ate here last night. The server was not knowledgable about the menu. The food was nothing notable. The pasta did not taste homemade at all and the sauce was just mediocre. The chicken parm was okay but I felt like I could have gotten the same dish at Olive Garden. Nothing to distinguish this restaurant from any other place in the quickly growing food scene in Richmond. I might go back but with much lower expectations. I was really disappointed in Gresi. I am from Brooklyn so I was really excited to get back to some NewYork style dining. Having made a reservation, I arrived to be told Ididn't appear to be on any list. I pulled out my phone to show her the two texts I had received from Gersi reminding me of my reservation. Then she wanted to seat us at a table in the middle of a crowd standing and waiting for a table. I politely resisted this and we were seated at one of three available tables. While friendly, the staff brought our appetizers before we received any water or our drink orders. The apps were just ok. My husband ( a southern guy) asked the waiter what Veal Milanese was. He asked specifically, " I want something with a red sauce on it. Does this have red sauce?" The waiter said, "yes. It has sauce". Ummm, no sauce. Lots of breading. I love the concept of Gersi but the actual experience was really disappointing and too expensive to take another chance. read more

Simple, authentic, fresh, and Italian! This is exactly what we have missed in Richmond since moving here from Philadelphia 15 years ago. Pastas are all made in house and the spaghetti al limone reminded me of being in Cinque Terre. Once again, simple, fresh, and exquisite! Can not express enough how much we enjoyed our meal here. The best tomatoes, mozzarella, and olive oil we have ever had in RVA. I'm a pate guy and loved the rich and earthy pate on crusty grilled bread.
