OMG!!!! Absolutely some the best bbq I've tasted!!!! We tried to order yesterday but because of the holiday and the fact there was a big storm they weren't open. Luckily for me they were open today. My last meal in Texas was at Gessner's!!! I placed a tog order for a 2 meat plate. Lean Brisket and St louis Ribs with a side of baked beans and creamed corn. The brisket was super moist and perfectly cooked. I love the rub they use. It has a little hint of heat just a little. The ribs we the same with a tiny bit of sweet. The one and only sauce they have has a little of heat and sweet although the rub on the meat was enough without the sauce. The baked beans would win competitions!!!! The creamed corn was just as good with a little kick. I wished I wasn't leaving early in the morning. They also have some breakfast items. The brisket I got didn't look fresh, the bark resembled the texture of having been microwaved. They initially forgot about the beans I ordered but rectified upon request. Counter service. This was my first time eating texas bbq and I was extremely surprised. This restaurant is hidden away on a small road between a few car shops, giving it a cozy vibe. The seating area is decorated with nostalgic pieces of art and furniture. The ribs were the best part of the meal with brisket being a close second. Couldn't find an authentic BBQ location open early enough until I came across Gessner's. Before 11am there are only 3 items available. We had the breakfast brisket taco, delicious. We also ordered the brisket hash with medium eggs, delightful. It was just enough BBQ for breakfast to not make me feel heavy. Cody was a great host. Very hospitable and kind. Why 5 stars? Because they have a cumulative 5 stars and I can't argue with that. --- --- --- Gessner's has been on my list for a while but it was about a 35 minute drive from my house, so I finally just made it there recently. As you're driving up, you definitely seem like you're in the wrong place. It's pretty industrial and just looks like you're in the midst of a bunch of automotive shops. The only tell is that they have a fairly large "BBQ sign" off the main road that you turn onto off Sawdust. We ordered food to go and then headed to the park to eat it there while our son played on the playground. While this was not something Gessner's did, the weather was absolutely perfect on this day, so that made the experience *that* much nicer. As for the food itself, I went with the loaded baked potato with chopped beef. It was excellent. One of the better loaded baked potatoes I've had, and there are many in the area. The only two snafu's were that my wife did not receive BBQ sauce with her brisket sandwich, even though it was requested, which made it a bit dry. And they did not provide us with plastic cutlery, so we had to pop into another restaurant to grab some. For dessert, we had the banana cream pie cake and Oreo truffles. They were also awesome. The banana cream pie cake was just what it sounds like: banana cream pie on top of cake. Usually, it's just in pie form, but the cake on the bottom layer was a nice touch. The Oreo truffle was almost too quickly scarfed down to have much of an opinion other than: "good". If we lived closer, we would make this a regular stop, but we'll happily visit again when in the area. read more

This is one of the best food I had during my stay in the Woodlands for the past 5 days! The taco really hit the spot and is very filling. There's a generous amount of brisket and it's not dry at all. It's juicy and flavorful with the cheese. The hash gives a bit of a crispy crunch if you eat it at the spot. The egg is perfectly pan fried and the flour tortilla just hold everything nicely all together. The salsa and the bbq sauce on the side elevated the flavor. There's a lot going on in this taco but it's not messy at all since the cheese hold everything together. The staff are very nice and the service is fast. Wow! Some of the best food I've ever had. Came here with friends on a Monday afternoon to grab some BBQ. You have to make sure to pay attention while driving to this location or you might miss the turn. I decided to order the 2 meat platter and added the garlic sausage. The ribs literally fell off the boom and were seasoned to perfection. Just writing this makes me want some. The sliced brisket was very flavorful and the BBQ sauce was a perfect mix of sweet and tangy. I decided to have the slaw and potato salad. Both very delicious as well. Love this place and the story behind it. The guy who owns it also owns the machine shop it shares a parking lot with. If you like jalapenos you'll love his sides. He uses them in his cream corn(my personal favorite), potato salad and his coleslaw. The meat brisket B+, Ribs A, Chicken A+, Sausage A, burgers(have yet to experience) Baked Beans and Banana pudding cake A. Really nice guy and has a covered porch and picnic tables to eat at. Well worth the visit. OMG, I almost forgot my one of my faves. The OVERSIZED LOADED BAKED POTATO. I was in The Woodlands when I got a suddenly got an intense craving for BBQ. So I hopped on our go-to food app (Yelp) and found this place. It was a little bit hidden off the main road.. kinda in the middle of the warehouse space to an automotive shop. I wasn't too sure what to expect when I was pulling up, but I quickly found myself greeted by staff. I ordered brisket plate and had a seat. I always judge a BBQ place by the BBQ sauce and it did not disappoint. The BBQ sauce had a Smokey taste with a hint of spice and the perfect amount of tanginess. I could have sat there and drank a few packs of it.. don't worry! I didn't. The brisket had a thick layer of fat down the side of the cut with a caramelized char all over it. All I can say is WOW! Melts in your mouth and just packed with so much flavor. If you go get BBQ here, I suggest the Texas coleslaw. It barely has any cabbage in it because it's too packed with other awesome ingredients like fresh corn, finely diced fresh jalapeños, and all the right seasonings. The baked beans were insanely good, too. If I didn't order baked beans, I would have thought the chef brought me a cup of chopped bacon! The baked beans were the best beans I've ever had in my life. My fiancé ate all of them and he can't stand baked beans. But he said these baked beans was his favorite part of the meal. They had the same great flavor of the BBQ sauce, but they were very meaty and hearty. Covered with a thick layer of bacon. Highly recommend! Oh and they said they are connected to the auto shop as business partners as well.. with a claim to have the best prices in town. Check it out! Looking for BBQ and we almost went to the usual chain joints. Saw this on Yelp and we are th roiled that we did. What an amazing place and the food was excellent. Off the main road and we laughed where it was located as we almost missed it. Glad we didn't as this is where we're going from now on. I got the two meat plate Brisket and ribs, with a side on Jalapeño sausage, the ribs were amazing and an excellent flavor. The briskets was moist throughout and a great tasting bark. The sausage was a perfect blend with the jalapeño flavor just right. The 3 meats were great by themselves and I added the BBQ sauce sparingly but it was delicious and added perfectly to the meal. I had the potato salad and Cole Slaw and you haven't had either anywhere else that compares to these two. My guest had the brisket potato , it was huge, perfectly cooked, moist and smothered in Brisket and cheese. Top it all off with the nicest young lady taking our order and delivering the order to our table. The cook who I take as the owner, was amazing. Lots of help when ordering and checked on us to make sure we were happy with the meal. No doubt some of the best BBQ we have had in Houston and we will be back. read more

I have been to some of the best BBQ spots in Texas. Gessner's is up there. The ribs were great falling off the bone, really good rub on them didn't really need bbq sauce. The bbq sauce is great. The brisket was a really good quality of beef and the flavor and smoke were delicious. Wow, love this casual and friendly place and the outstanding food and service. Owner is right there with the team cooking and serving and passing on the family tradition and recipes. We were able to sample a wide range of his offerings, including corn and potato salad, two briskets, two sausages, chicken, bread, and more ... just excellent. And of course the sauce, which makes the meal. The grub tends to the zippy side, with a little influence from the Mexican side of things ... couldn't be better.
