My husband and I have moved at least half a dozen times in our decade in DC. We've never used movers before but now that we have a kid to look after its harder to do the move ourselves. Enter Get up and go. From the start this was such an easy experience. Mark got back to all my emails so quickly and provided thoughtful answers for all my questions. I can't recommend Get Up and Go Movers enough! Please note that this review is for unloading assistance only. We requested two movers within two weeks of our move date due to a delay in getting our lease approved. Mark contacted me right away to say that he could accommodate our July 1st request (which apparently is one of the busiest move times) no problem. The morning of the move we looked at our rental truck and started to panic...we had way too much stuff for only two movers to get done in a reasonable amount of time! I emailed Mark to request an extra person and he responded quickly to say it was no problem! The three movers (Josh, Jero, and Justin) were on-time, efficient, and most of all, careful with our belongings. Moving day finally came, so of course it had to be the coldest day of the year. 3-5 inches of snow on the ground and windchill of about -2 degrees didn't stop these guys. I booked them for 3 hours to move from one townhouse to another. I think I underestimated the amount of stuff I had, but they managed to fit it all in like tetris pieces into the truck. I've used these guys twice, and my friend has used them once I would recommend them to anyone. In the future, it would be great if they had their own truck. That way I wouldn't have to deal with Uhaul nonsense. But I honestly cannot say enough good things about this company and their workers. Give them a try. You won't regret it. read more

They wrapped my desk and furniture nicely in the furniture pads I had from Uhaul, and clearly they had an organization system down pat. This was the second time I used this company and both times I was more than pleased at the crew's professionalism, patience and most of all consistent speed! All they asked for as they made dozens of trips up and down stairs were glasses of ice water- they were cheerful and polite even through we went couple hours past schedule and had 2 different locations a hour away to unpack boxes. This moving company is absolutely worth your money. I have used them twice in the past year and would absolutely use them again should the need arise. My first move last year was into the DC area and I had booked Get Up and Go to unload the U-Haul I was driving into town. However, while I had booked their service for a Saturday afternoon/evening, I was delayed because of the poor moving company selection I chose at my departure location. Despite the last minute change, Get Up and Go was willing to come to my destination location in DC the following morning to help me unpack. When they arrived the next morning they were quick, professional, and an ease to work with. I recently used Get Up and Go again for a move out of DC towards the Baltimore area. I unfortunately had to cancel and reschedule the move twice, but received only professional and courteous emails in response to my change request. When the move finally occurred, the movers arrived on time and were again very quick and professional when loading up my U-Haul truck. The movers then followed me in their own vehicle (I paid the same rate for the travel time) to my new destination where they unloaded the vehicle in half the amount of time it took to pack it. The whole process occurred over lunch time, so I also provided pizza and drink for us to eat. I have no negative comments to give about the company's management or any of the movers that were employed for my two moves. This is a great moving company and you should definitely use them for any DC area move that you have. read more

We had a pretty disappointing experience with this moving company. They showed up three hours late to a noon appointment, apparently because the original workers had a truck get towed. Such things happen, but no one communicated this to us; after an hour of no show and no contact, we had to reach out to the manager. He eventually responded and he managed to get a couple of replacement workers to come over, but they showed up three hours late from the original appointment, and we were left scrambling to get our things into storage, which was on the verge of closing. Ultimately, we did not get all of our things into storage, so I had to rent a UHaul for another day and take the morning off of work to finish the job. Very disappointing and no discount offered. On the bright side, the two workers who did eventually show up were very hardworking and helpful. read more

I was hoping to work something out so this would be a 5 star review but after a month of back and forth communication ended and I am unsatisfied. First of all, I hired Get Up and Go Movers when I discovered the moving company I originally hired was a scam. Get Up and Go Moves assured me they would show up on time and did not require a deposit. I wasn't happy that I had to rent my own truck but the price was right and ultimately just needed the labor. The movers arrived on time and did an okay job. The next day I noticed a dent on my brand new bookshelf. I took a picture and sent it to Marc who said he would talk to the movers and get back to me. About a week later after talking to the movers they denied they did anything wrong and said it was impossible that they could have caused the damage. I was really upset because my original plan was to sell the bookshelf before I moved, but ran out of time and had to take it with me. I asked for some type of compensation and was accused of causing the damage myself to get money. I tried to tell Marc that I really just wanted to sell the bookshelf and agreed to getting the damage fixed so I could sell it. He put me in touch with a guy to fix it but he told me he couldn't help me because he doesn't do color matching. The dent can't be fixed, but I was hoping to get some help matching the color and gloss so the dent would be less noticeable to prepare to sell. Morale of the story, make sure you thoroughly inspect all of your items before the movers leave. This seems like common sense but even when you hire movers, the process of packing and moving is still exhausting and it probably isn't on your mind. Really wish this would have ended better. I would have been happy if I would have received some help fixing the damage. read more

The two movers who came to move our furniture were very kind and hard working. However, none of that can make up for what followed. I had to look away as my roommates beautiful chest was dragged down the one flight of stairs they had to go down and as the rest of our furniture was dragged down the stairs and on the concrete sidewalk. The result was a torn leather couch, a chunk of wood missing from the armoire door, chips out of the dining room table, and scratches on my desk. As a result, nearly every piece of furniture we own was damaged. We provided furniture pads, an additional dolly, a couch cover and rope, none of which the movers elected to use despite the website specifying that we should provide such items. After complaining, the company claimed the two men had not unloaded our items at our new house, a blatant lie. Further, he claimed that because they did not drive the truck, they can't be to blame. The move was less than 3 miles and the company does not offer a service for driving the truck, meaning they would never be liable for damage caused in any move. We are deeply saddened that our beautiful, new furniture has been so damaged and would never use this company or recommend it to anyone. read more

I was concerned about everything fitting into the POD I rented. They packed it strategically (far better than I would have) and had plenty of room to spare. So this is a somewhat unconventional review because we didn't actually get the unit in due to ice and snow; however, these guys were awesome. After moving ourselves four times in eight years, my partner and I decided that for our most recent move, we deserved to hire professionals. We found Get Up and Go Movers through the Uhaul website and booked them for a move in early June. I cannot speak highly enough of the two young men who packed our 20' Uhaul in 2.5 hours. They were professional, fast, and so spatially gifted in fitting everything in the best possible way so that all items were secure. Nothing shifted and we had no damage after a 300+ mile move. Considering what we got in return, their rates were incredibly reasonable. One of the best businesses I have ever dealt with. We feared that working with two deaf guys would be challenging. Just the opposite. They listened, and communicated way better than most hearing folks. They paid attention to every detail, including helping us clients avoid meltdowns over perceived problems. TERRIBLE COMPANY. RUDE. DO NOT USE THEM. I had selected them for my Ubox move. They were impossible to reach. Never answered their phone, would only text. Which, in trying to coordinate a move is not right. They accepted an order for three u boxes and then told me they could only deliver and unload one at a time, then having to go back to the warehouse. This would make a short unload increasingly longer. They were unhelpful when I suggested other options, and slow to respond. Finally, the day before they were supposed to move me, they cancelled the order and hung up on me saying I'd have to find someone else. Even thought I'd already paid them in full. Then they have the audacity of accusing me of lying. They should have told me about their limitations upfront, as I would have hired other movers. Nor is it professional for a company providing a service to only want to respond via text message. read more

This was the first time my husband and I hired movers, and after our experience with Get Up and Go Movers, we wondered why we never hired movers before! Daniel and Anton were amazing and we have absolutely no regrets. Although they were running a few minutes late due to traffic, they communicated with us via text and ended up only being 15 minutes late. We hired them to move all of our stuff from two storage units onto a rented U-Haul truck, and unpack everything at our new house. At first my husband and I were skeptical if they were going to fit everything into the 24' truck we rented, but Daniel and Anton were very strategic in loading the truck (they obviously have done this a million times before!) Incredulously, our two storage units were completely emptied in about 2 hours, AND there was still room on the truck! They were incredibly efficient, yet handled everything with extreme care. We had hired them for 4 hours, but they finished everything in just over 3 hours. We moved on a very hot day (90+ degrees), and yet both Daniel and Anton had very pleasant and positive attitudes. What a difference it made to our moving experience.
