    NIGHTMARE! RENTER, BEWARE! $1700 CHARGE FOR "CHECK ENGINE LIGHT" Firstly, we had no idea this could even happen. Much, much, less that it has happened to so many other customers. We live in DTLA and choose to commute by bike. When we need a car to pick up some boxes from our storage unit then we will rent a Getaround for a few hours. The distance from our apartment to the storage unit is 1.5 miles, a 4 min drive according to Google. On Nov. 13th my husband rented the Getaround for 3.5 hours. Solely to go to the storage unit then to our apartment. He took pictures before and after. Nothing was unusual or wrong with the car. He returned the car. Uneventful. We didn't give anything a second thought. On Nov. 19th Getaround emails my husband saying that because AFTER he returned the car, the "check engine light" turned on that they will be charging us $1700 for damages (including $200 for not reporting damages). We disputed this obviously. They want "proof" that we did not cause the "check engine light", but how? If there was nothing wrong when we had the car, drove the car no more than 5 miles total in less than 3.5 hours. Why would we ever think to take video or extra photos of a car that was seemingly fine. Furthermore, any car owner can attest to the fact that the "check engine light" can turn on for a myriad of different reasons at no specific time and disappear then reappear 2 weeks or more later. We never used the car excessively or got into an accident or caused any damage. If the "check engine light" turned on after the car was returned then it sounds like the owner needs to do the necessary maintenance to their car so that it can be in optimal working order to be rented. Getaround provided no proof to us that we in fact caused the light to turn on. They charged our credit card the $1700 and said there was nothing we could do about it. We have disputed and will continue to dispute this. We also called our credit card company and they are investigating.     Would give it zero stars if I could. One of the people using the service hit my car on May 31st. It is now July 12th and although we have called and emailed several times no response regarding their insurance getting my car fixed. My car was parked on the street. The guy tried to drive away but his car was too damaged. We are looking into the insurance better business bureau and if there is a way to sue the driver. Do not use this business.

    Horrific. Zero stars. This COULD be a successful company if they actually listened to customers and problem-solved. 1. Most cars are in poor condition. 2. Their process is riddled with problems. 3. Even if you return cars with more gas than when you picked it up, they charge you a fee, in my case $70. 4. They have contradictory written policies, some say incorrect information about gas fees and miles allowed within the app. 5. If you have toll charges, they add an extra $2.50 fee per toll. No real reason for this, since the car owner is required to have a toll account. It's a money grab. 6. It's moderately hard to reach them when you're driving one of their cars, it literally is not an option to call them if you are not currently on a trip. I have been emailing all day and most responses did not answer my questions AT ALL!!! 7. Most of the people I talk to were not in this country, very difficult communication. 8. Yesterday here were my charges for a 2013 Prius. $57 car rental $13 insurance $16 GetAround fee $70 gas fee $37 toll charges $60 (the gas I bought plus car wash/vacuum I paid at start of trip) ~ $250 costs So, I worked 11 hours and made $20 after these costs, which I will get in about 10 biz days after the $30 deposit hold is lifted!!!!!!!! No worth it!!!!!!!!!! "Annette" see photos w/CONTRADICTORY policy info. 10/04/2021 ANNETTE I have been emailing GetAround fir two days, I've received partial help and now I have not received any responses for 24 hours from any of your staff. When I tried to extend on Saturday, they created a new reservation on Sunday which I noticed within roughly an hour later and canceled it and now it's charging me a $35 fee. The app was glitching, because when I canceled the Sunday glitch reservation it ended up taking out my Saturday get around car from the Uber app. I had to call to get that fixed, I lost time cleaning the car and pick up as well as dealing with this glitch. Nobody from the company helps with ANYTHING!!!

    Correction: ZERO stars. Unfortunately, I made the mistake of using this service again. So, my bad. Long story short: I rented a Prius for about 4 HOURS. I think that was around $36 or something around there. I NEEDED TO EXTEND IT another 5 HOURS. Which was another $60 something. And then some fees and fees for...whatever their "fees" are for. TAF??!! So for 9 HOURS (not 24) I paid over 100 DOLLARS FOR A PRIUS. AND NOT A NEW PRIUS!!! Not a baby Tesla. Not a Zipcar. Not a rental car which would have been maybe $65 for a similar size car (Enterprise) Or maybe $75 for one delivered to my doorstep (Kyte), both with 24-hour rental times - neither of which, by the way, are paying me to promote them (which is for comparison purposes only). But A FRICKIN PRIUS FOR 9 hours @ $100+ (I think it was $115, to be exact)!!! AND, I had to WALK 1.1 MILES TO GET TO THE CAR!!! Fine. My bad choice to use this Company's service again. Sucks that I didn't learn my lesson. Oh, well. I'll eat it. BUT THEN... "Ernie" decides to email me asking for proof that I refilled the tank? Not IF I did, but PROOF that I did? (Probably not "Ernie's" fault. Probably just doing what he/she/they are told. Perhaps an unknowing innocent doing the company's dirty work? Who knows.) Still, you've_ gotta be f-ing kidding me??!!! My response: "First of all, That car COST ME over $100 for that day because I EXTENDED IT to 9 HOURS TOTAL??!!! ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS!! The app NEVER PROMPTED ME to take a picture of the fuel when I started the trip, only to confirm it as 71%. Which I did. And I SUBMITTED A PICTURE OF THE FUEL LEVEL at the end of the trip showing 75% fuel. I'm gonna repeat/rephrase that for the folks in the back: The app USED TO prompt me to take a picture of the fuel level at the beginning of the trip. NOW, the app asks "Is this fuel level correct?" If it is, I click "yes" and it takes me to the next screen. IT NO LONGER PROMPTS ME TO TAKE A PHOTO OF THE FUEL LEVEL AT THE BEGINNING OF THE TRIP!!! BUT IT ABSOLUTELY PROMPTS ME AT THE END! Then, as if by some sort of trickery, the ending fuel level their system reports is less than the truth of the photo I submit - and they harass me? GTFOH!!! So now, ON TOP OF THE $100+ for a 9-hour rental (2016 Prius rental) and 1.1 MILE WALK TO GET THE CAR, you're REQUESTING THAT I SEND MORE PROOF SO YOU CAN MAKE MORE $?? When I DID MY INSPECTION PROPERLY THROUGH YOUR APP? What in the AF? WHAT AN AWFUL, AWFUL COMPANY!!" Yeah, no. I'm done. Good luck! p.s. Annette That you keep responding to my reviews with "policy" instead of reviewing and knowing, explicitly, the details of my rentals and communications with your company, is highly suspect. While sharing my email correspondence with your reps (a full digital / pictorial trail) would probably be helpful here for potential customers, I'm tiredT! Your pricing is NOT competitive and your service is FAR BELOW par. Getaround is scamming folks. Let's just call a spade a spade. For my stupidity and participation in this, you're welcome for the money I've already wasted on this company. And hopefully, instead of responding defensively, your company will implement policy changes. I've been in the service industry for many, many years. I have no reason to lie, and lie, and lie again about my experience with Getaround. It's been absolute shit. ****** The attached photos represent a 9-hour rental. Not 13. Not 24. But a 9 HOUR RENTAL! And now they're harassing me over a few measly bucks for gas??!! And they're asking me for a photo of the fuel level when I started the trip but the app didn't prompt me to take one???????!! I forgot to mention that if you need to change the duration you'd like to book, you can't do that in the app. You have to cancel the car and book again. Which I did. But because it was 2 hours before my original booking time I was charged a penalty of $21.10 , which I had to dispute - EVEN THOUGH THE CHANGE MEANT THAT I WAS RENTING THE CAR FOR LONGER! As you can see, I won that battle, which shouldn't have been a battle at all. And after a FEW PHONE CALLS WHILE I WAS ON SET WORKING, they refunded the booking amount of $72.20. They kept that 01 cent, lol. But that $115 for a 9-HOUR PRIUS RENTAL is all right here, along with the $5 and change they're now haggling with me about gas. Don't get it twisted. There's been no "misunderstanding" here. This company knows EXACTLY what they're doing. YOU KNOW WHO's HAPPY WITH GETAROUND? Their affiliates, employees, car owners, and fake 5-star reviews. DO YOUR RESEARCH FOLKS! I am not alone in what I'm sharing here. Google. Reviews. Go! And MAKE SURE you "Sort To" Most Recent, Most Critical, and/or Most Recommended. Then decide for yourself.     Update: the immediate response they gave me below is the EXACT type of runaround they have been giving me for 7 months, AVOID THIS COMPANY. "we are working to resolve this" is the same thing I have heard for 7 months. continue on for my review GETAROUND CRASHED MY CAR AND HAS NOT PAID ME FOR OVER 7 MONTHS! Beware! They claim to have insurance and cover you if one of their employees or renters damages your car. NOT TRUE My partner and I put our 2009 Mazda6 on Getaround over 7 months ago. An employee came to take the car to install getaround connect. They crashed the car, we got an email stating that the car may be a total loss. Every time we follow up with them they give us the same response. Something along the lines of "sorry, we will reach out to you soon" or "Sorry, upgrading this to a supervisor, we will get back to you soon" I've attached the 6 months worth of worthless messages from Getaround "happiness team that includes" Danielle and Paul from Getaround are basically useless. For whatever getaround member reads this, this is regarding ticket number #3463056 our email is hellocarrr@gmail.com if anyone has had similar issues, please get in contact with us, we want to put together a press release and PR campaign warning people that Getaround will NOT pay you if they crash your car! You have been warned, here is the evidence. GETAROUND WILL NOT PAY YOU IF THEY CRASH YOUR CAR.

    Do they accept debit card as a payment method?

    Yup. The very 1st time you use, they'll hold $250 (I think it was $250), then release right away. Each time after that, if everything went well the 1st time, you'll only be responsible for the quoted amount and can use a debit card (needs no holds).

My clients were EXTREMELY IMPRESSED when I came to pick them up in this car (1 client one day, the second client the next day). In this industry (web development) there is a LOT of competition, so you have to stand out. THIS CAR allowed me to do just that. Drives beautifully, shifts gracefully, and is great on gas. CONCLUSION: I will definitely be renting THIS CAR for all my business meetings or if I just want to cruise down PCH for a day or two just to explore the beachside and the beautiful sights LA has to offer.     Extremely disappointing and honestly concerning experience…read more I was sent here through a Volkswagen dealership while my car was being serviced, and the entire process was handled poorly from start to finish. First, I asked reasonable clarifying questions about using an Apple Card for the rental hold process since the physical card intentionally has no printed numbers on it. Instead of calmly explaining the policy, the manager - Carlos - became hostile, raised his voice, accused me of "trying to force" him to do something, refused to provide any escalation contact, and ultimately hung up on me. When I returned later to pick up the rental, I specifically requested that the authorization be run as credit rather than debit so my available funds wouldn't immediately be pulled during an already stressful move. Despite that request, approximately $300 was immediately removed from my available balance. Then the rental vehicle itself had a defective driver's seatbelt. I reported it immediately. Staff acknowledged the issue, took it to a mechanic, and then told me there was nothing they could do and no other vehicles were available. So I was ultimately handed a vehicle with a known defect involving the driver's primary safety restraint system and told to take it anyway because there were no other options. The combination of hostile customer service, poor communication, payment handling issues, and being given a vehicle with an acknowledged safety defect made this an incredibly uncomfortable experience overall.
