Food and service were amazing!! We got the catfish, shrimp, and oxtail, and all of them were so delicious. The shrimp had a nice crunch to it and the catfish was so tender. If you're looking for some good food in Brooklyn, I'd recommend GG's.

Wow I have been wanting to go to the Brooklyn location but when I saw the food truck in downtown Manhattan I was ready and waiting. The whitey fish was flavorful and lightly beer breading was so delicious. Then the tarter sauce also had flavor almost a lime ranch taste it went so well with the fries. The person who took the order was very nice and honest about the wait. I will try it again this time catfish. It's so good to find a place that cooks fish to a beautiful golden brown and still have crunch to it. I enjoyed it.

This is a nice food truck of soul food that I don't come across often enough near my work place. I was in awe that they had this by my job. I quickly glimpse through the menu and knew what I wanted. I wanted to try all the sides but I guess I save it for next time. I decided to get the catfish dinner that includes two sides so I chose Mac and cheese and collard greens. Mac and cheese tasted really good and was not too wet. Collard greens were steamed to perfection. Catfish was really big, they served two pieces. It was a lot of food for $18. I was so full that I couldn't finish my plate and had to save it for dinner. Sauces that came with it went well with the catfish! Going to try their whiting next time.

Here's the Scoop: I had my first experience with GG's fish truck. The portions were awesome, the price reasonable. The food was seasoned and so, so tasty. My first experience was their downtown Brooklyn near the MTA building. My second experience was an event held at my church during the summer like 1 week later and I was so surprised but very happy to get the catfish platter again. Crispy and delicious!!! The collard greens & mac and cheese is tasty too. They have a very nice menu but the food goes fast. They also have delicious desserts. I've been told their redo is in Brooklyn but I haven't had an opportunity to go there yet.

This is a review for the food truck/cart. The fried whiting is the truth! I have not tried the chicken or catfish yet so cannot speak to that. Check out their Instagram to see where the truck will be that day, they are frequently in Downtown Brooklyn on the weekdays and Soho on the weekends. Please pop out in the city more often!

The food, service and ambiance were all amazing. My family and I were visiting Brooklyn for the holidays from California. We saw their interview on YouTube and my son made us go there for dinner. We were so glad we did. The food was amazing!!!! Real soul food and good home cooking. Everything' was seasoned well and tasted so good. We ordered the following: Chicken & Waffle, Catfish & Shrimp Combo, Shrimp Poboy, Whiting & Shrimp Combo and Shrimp Combo. Can't wait to visit Brooklyn again if for no other reason then, to eat at GG's.

I got the catfish, and it was good! I loved the sides more to be honest, but I might not be the hugest fish and chips girl. It definitely had a more southern twang to it which I appreciated a lot because the FLAVOR was so good. I recommend for anyone. The lady working there also let a bunch of my friends and I take up the whole counter seating which I was grateful for.

Anthony's special sweet sauce in mango and pineapple! So good!

Cat fish sandwich is everything!!! Be sure to try Anthony's special sauce too! He makes two! Mango and pineapple!!! Slushies are on point!!! Comes in sangria and peach!!! Good to go! Met the owner and he's down to earth! You can sit in and eat! The place is cozy! I'm definitely returning! Thank you!

So I decided to take a walk for lunch break and lo and behold I see this Black and red truck parked right outside of my hospital. "Essential Worker ya know lol".. And its southern food okay okay . So I said let me try something different so I ordered the catfish dinner comes with 2 sides. So i opted for Candied yams like who can mess those up right?! And collard greens . The fish was cooked when you order so it was fresh and and nicely fried and delicious. The yams were good not overly sweet and juicy lol. Ok the greens babyyyyy was the hit for me not overly salty and lil pieces of Smoked Turkey definitely worth the $18.59. Also bought the banana pudding because it looked so delicious will post review about it later when my sweet tooth kicks in... The banana was so good nice and not overly sweet and lil bananas like how i like it. I need a bigger cup tho I would pay $10 for a bigger portion. The cup was $5 plus tax but worth it.. If u see them in the city try em tell em i sent ya! Support black business wink..

This southern kid was deeply disappointed by "the best soul food in Brooklyn." And while the reviews below mine state some of the same accuracy, I went against my better judgement. Let's get into it... they offer a buy one get one deal in Uber and the staff will suggest it to you, which is honestly a good deal. I did not get names but the younger fair skin lady with glasses was the most helpful and another older lady who was probably an owner/partner/manager. There was another younger woman around with braids and glasses that needed a little more customer service training. Her name may be Sharisse or something like that. Food wise.... I had the oxtail cheesesteak. Like other reviews, the fat needs to be trimmed more but they are quite tender. However, I doubt I try it again. For the sides, I was able to taste the Mac and cheese, candied yams, black eyed peas, and greens. That's the order in which the taste is decent. The Mac isn't quite a creamy Mac, it's definitely baked which is cool. The yams were good, just heavily sugared. The black eyed peas were okay but they were lukewarm. And the greens were a miss, I prefer a bit more heat/spice on mine and these had bitter and sweet mixed together. Lastly, I tried the banana pudding and the kool aid. Kool aid was like church punch if that's your thing and the banana pudding was thick. I'm a dessert guy and I maybe only ate a third of it. Overall, it's clean and chill. But it's definitely take out as there is no seating available.

Located on Atlantic Avenue, the space itself is deceptively large. Upon entry, you are greeted by an L shaped bar, with high tops on the left, a booth in the front, and then several booths and tables in the back. There is a TV, but rather than sports like you'd see at most dive bars, there is usually a movie on. There is also a backyard to the bar, which is lovely in the summertime. As you'd expect, you order everything at the bar, food included, and there is no waiter service aside from the staff running your food to your table. There is a reasonable collection of draft beers, focusing on somewhat higher end beers rather the standard collection of macro brews. Additionally there are a handful of cocktails, and a few drink specials (I often take advantage of the shot and beer combo). The drink selection is nothing fancy, but it gets the job done. There's also a food menu, including burgers, a hot dog, chicken wings and other bar staples. Overall the food is surprisingly good. I'm quite fond of the spicy smash burger, and the wings are pretty good as well. So far I don't think I've had anything that is poorly made, and they seem to put a bit more effort in to the food than other bars. What really sets the Hollow Nickel apart to me is the service. The bartenders are friendly, and help foster a community feeling in the bar. If you find yourself a regular, a nod and a smile will have your usual drink prepared quickly. The other patrons are usually pretty friendly, and it's not uncommon for me to find myself chatting with other people at the bar when I come for a drink on my own. I'm not quite sure what they've done, but the Hollow Nickel is just a nice place to be filled with generally nice people. If you want a drink and maybe some food, the Hollow Nickel won't do you wrong. It's exactly the type of bar you like to know is an option.
