Im struggling with this rating because we had an incident and this visit was probably our worst we have had on any trip. One night we ate at the bar because the hostess was so far from friendly it wasn't funny. Second try, we tried to get a reservation before we left and the hostess again was not kind or helpful or seemed like she even knew what she was doing. When we came to meet friends for dinner hoping to do a walk in (the check in said we shouldn't have issues after telling her how we couldn't get a reservation), same hostess. My husband was LIVID. We ended up taking four bar stools, getting a cocktail and leaving to have dinner at McKees. I'm sorry but everything is good here besides the hostess. My birthday dinner was good at the bar the first night but my husband had a chat with the manager outside because he was that mad about how we were treated. His excuse was that finding staff wasn't easy. Well, you're running a premier restaurant at a golf resort and it needs to be better. Will we be back? Yes. I hope that girl is replaced or demoted. Best dinner restaurant on property hands-down. Would save your money to splurge for the best meal here. Was the liveliest restaurant on property for our stay and the food matched the energy. Steaks all around were delicious, with sides and starters all great too. Definitely recommend the raw bar, which I missed getting pictures of because they went so quick! This was my second visit to the grill and there's something about a comforting space and a good meal after multiple rounds of golf, walking. The food quality is excellent, from starters to salads and sides. A grilled ribeye is a good choice, but I opted for a smoked prime rib and was t disappointed. Loaded baked potato's is big enough for two with all the toppings. For dessert our caddie recommended the fresh donuts with caramel sauce and they were great. Loved this place. An upscale casual setting provided lovely views and delicious food. So many windows to enjoy views of the course. We started with the shrimp cocktail which was 6 large shrimp served on ice with cocktail sauce. Excellent. For our entrees, our table ordered 3 steaks and I had the halibut. My meal was delicious. The fish had a nice sear on the outside but flaky and tender inside. It came with 2 spears of asparagus and a rich sauce. For sides, we shared the carrots and whipped potatoes. The two sides seemed to be enough for our four diners. Both sides were very good. Service was excellent. We did have a reservation and were seated immediately. Apparently, you can't come to Bandon Dunes without dining at the Ghost Tree. After hearing its praise for multiple days, I must say I wasn't disappointed! Service was excellent. From the hostess to the bar tender to our server (Dallas) and everyone else, service here was top notch! Ambiance was nice, classy without feeling stuffy. It was too cold for us to sit outside by the fire, but that must certainly be a nice feature during the summer. I also appreciate that we were able to continue watching the 49ers vs. Bears on SNF because there are big TVs throughout the bar and restaurant. On to the best part, the food! Cauliflower: this truly was a special dish. I thought it was going to be WAY too much for two people, which it was. But it made for decent leftovers the next day. My only slight complaint about this dish is that there was almost too much going on flavor wise. I probably wouldn't get this again if I wasn't with a larger group, but I'm glad we tried it! Whipped Potatoes: perfect accompaniment to steak or in my case the pork chop! So buttery and delicious... served with caramelized onions on top. Another 10/10, would definitely order again! The pork chop was maybe on of the best I've ever had. The dish is two giant bone-in chops. They do have some fat, but that's what makes them so flavorful. The most high end restaurant on the Bandon Dunes campus. If you're in Bandon on a golf trip, it is a must you book a reservation at Ghost Tree Grill for some steaks and cocktails. It's a steak house, you must order their steaks. I also had a scallop appetizer (similar to scallop sashimi), and a beer. We had a group of 20 so they actually split us into two big tables. Service was impeccable and attentive, the restaurant was very high end and romantic (maybe not for 19 guys and a gal), there's a bar area to watch the games (NBA was on), and located off the 18th hole on Old MAC (it was windy, rainy and night so we didn't get to see the course). I'm sure the view is super nice during the day. Recommended for steaks! High end! read more

We were surprised (but perhaps should not have been) by the prominent sports bar screens suspended from the ceiling. Great ambiance and lively vibe of golfers getting their grub on after a day on the links. The place is always hustling and bustling and they have a great bar that overlooks the old McDonald golf course. Over the course of two dinners we all had halibut, shrimp, ceviche, summer corn soup, shrimp, cocktails, burgers a delicious pork and other things that I have forgotten already. The service is great. This place is very unassuming. We were told of some nicer restaurants by some locals that were on the actual golf course grounds. And this was one of them. It's located way into the Bandon Dunes golf resort. We had to ask for directions getting there. Honestly I was impressed of how nice this place was and the menu. Definitely a golfers place, we felt a tad out of place because we just wanted fancy food but had been hiking all day. Literally every customer was in golf attire, but don't worry they accepted regular folk too. Haha. We sat at the bar because the hostess said there were no tables available, however when we sat and looked around there were at least 15 tables open, and we came in around 8:30pm. This place is gorgeous inside, and the view of the golf course is nice as well. Our bartender was nice for the most part, definitely nicer and more attentive after we ordered the whole raw bar and some other appetizers. But overall a decent waiter/bartender. Raw bar and appetizers came out fairly quick, our steak, fish and other sides took a tad bit longer. The bartender had to go check on it a few times. The price to portion sizes were a tad high for some items, but being on a "golf resort" and being "fine dining" for the area it was to be expected. Overall our meal was really yummy and it was over $300 for the two of us. But we did order an insane amount of food. Presentation was nice, not super fancy with the normal menu, but the raw bar presentation was really nice. So for the important part, taste..... this is just my honest opinion. The rolls, don't waste your time. Pricey for something not memorable. The bread almost tasted store bought to me and the butter could've had more flavor. Honestly they should just serve that complimentary. The pork belly appetizer was a 10/10! One of my favorites for the night, perfectly cooked, crisp and full of amazing flavors, had a kick at the end too. Couldn't stop eating this one. The mac and cheese was pretty tasty, very rich. I'm not one who normally orders Mac and cheese but I did like the hint of hatch chili, it was a nice change over a lobster Mac n cheese or a regular one. I couldn't personally eat a whole side of it, but the few bites I had were good. The brussels were brussels, cooked good... flavor was ok, could've been a tad more flavorful. The raw bar was probably my favorite off the whole menu. The salmon poke, hamachi crudo and scallop crudo were all excellent in their own way. I loved the flavor and texture with the poke combining the wontons. The hamachi crudo had a green curry sauce that was excellent and everything married well together. The scallop crudo had great flavors as well. The ahi tuna was good fish wise but was lacking with the toppings they put on it. It honestly would've been spectacular with just thinly sliced lemons Serrano peppers and a ponzu/yuzu sauce of some sort. The filet we ordered was cooked to medium and it came with truffle butter topping was good and needed. The halibut was cooked perfectly, but I didn't care for the accompanying sauce and it needed seasoning. We had become disenchanted with a restaurant in downtown Bandon that we usually go to every year, so we decided to try this one. I'm pretty sure this restaurant is the nicest and most expensive restaurant in the crown of Bandon Dunes. My companions had been here twice before, but it was my first time. (I had eaten at another Bandon Dunes restaurant on a previous trip to Bandon and was slightly unimpressed.) This one, however, was amazing. The restaurant itself is beautiful with windows overlooking the golf course, beautifully detailed wood and, for a chef, a great view of the exhibition kitchen. We started with the Halibut Ceviche. Now, I'm not a huge fan of ceviche, but this was really pretty good. (I wouldn't order it myself, but I did enjoy it). It had onions, avocado, three different color tomatoes and a sauce that contained tomato, onion, two chilies and other things. My companion asked what was in it and the server wrote down all the ingredients for us. I had a teacher in culinary school that would say - "I'm more than happy to give away my recipes because I know they cannot cook it as well as I can." It was served with housemade tortilla chips which were delicious in their own right. For dinner, we decided to get the prime rib and some sides (as the steaks are ala carte). We had them split the prime rib in half and, at 8 ozs of meat each, it was plenty. And, it was delicious. Who would have thought that a perfectly cooked slab of prime rib would not be the best part of the menu. The sides were. We had WHIPPED POTATO with caramelized onions, HASH BROWNS with chipotle crema, pickled onion, cherry peppers and ROASTED CARROTS with tahini yogurt, date syrup and crispy quinoa. They were all three delicious - especially the hash browns. It was traditional shredded potatoes, formed into a rectangular "cake" and deep fried. Amazing. Although we were pretty full, we decided to order dessert. One of our party had HOUSE-MADE MARIONBERRY ICE CREAM with granola crisp, and I had APPLE CIDER DOUGHNUTS with butterscotch. Mine was absolutely delicious. The donuts were warm and the cold butterscotch dipping sauce was a great compliment. My friend gave me a little taste of his ice cream and it was delicious as well. It was impossible to determine which was better. We finished with a delicious latte (I've been living off Keurig coffee all week, so I was starved for good coffee). We chose this restaurant to celebrate my 50th birthday, drawn by its striking modern architecture, warm interior design, and truly breathtaking views. In those respects, it absolutely delivers. Unfortunately, the dining experience itself did not meet the same standard and was deeply disappointing. My family has lived in Bandon for 29 years, and I am very familiar with the local culinary scene. I have enjoyed outstanding dishes such as the crab over vegetables at The Wheelhouse, their Wheelhouse Salad with shrimp, pineapple, and dried cranberries paired beautifully with Thousand Island dressing, and Lord Bennett's exceptional nut-encrusted halibut. With that context, I feel confident in saying that my expectations were reasonable and grounded in years of excellent local dining. Initially, I hoped to order crab legs, but our server strongly discouraged this option due to the cost ($180 per pound). I ultimately ordered the short ribs, oysters, and a Caesar salad, along with beverages. While most of the oysters were enjoyable, one tasted unmistakably spoiled. The experience was alarming--I gagged at the table and immediately lost my appetite. Shortly after, a family member shared a bite of his crab pasta with me, and unfortunately, there was a long hair in the dish that became tangled around my tongue. It was extremely unpleasant. I brought both issues to management. While they acknowledged the concerns and said they would inform the chef, there was no further follow-up, adjustment, or gesture to address what had occurred. On a positive note, the Caesar salad was excellent--one of the best I have had--and other members of my family did enjoy their salmon. However, my evening worsened significantly after dinner. I could not get past the taste of the spoiled oyster, and once back in my room, I experienced chills, shaking, and nausea, eventually becoming ill later that night and remaining awake until early morning. I later discovered salmonella had been found in oysters in 22 states! Given the unsatisfactory circumstances of my experiences, I was surprised that there was no compensation, no complimentary dessert for a milestone birthday, and no acknowledgment beyond a brief comment and disingenuous email. The total bill was nearly $600 for eight people (included several shared meals), an amount that would have covered multiple exceptional dinners at established Bandon restaurants known for both quality and service. Based on my decades of dining locally, I would recommend this establishment for drinks and ambiance only. The food quality and response to serious issues did not align with the price point or the setting. This was meant to be a meaningful celebration, and unfortunately, it fell far short of that goal. I truly hope improvements are made, as the location and atmosphere hold great potential. We will not return and do not recommend. read more

The food was just okay for me. I was disappointed there were dinner rolls (like you eat on thanksgiving) instead of bread. Just think high-end restaurants should have fresh baked bread. I got the filet and Brussel sprouts. The filet was good but the Brussel sprouts were mostly crispy leaves and not many whole Brussel spouts. Wine pours were small. What can you say about The Bandon Dunes Golf Resort on the south Oregon Coast that has not already been said? It is one of the top golfing destinations in the world. I was recently down there with my friend and his son to play in a golf event. Our first night we had dinner at Bandon Dunes' newest restaurant, The Ghost Tree. This was my fourth time to the The Ghost Tree and as usual it lived up to it's 5-Star reputation. We had a local friend of mine join us as well to make us a four-top. We did not have reservations but some how the staff found room for us. Top tip for the Ghost Tree, make reservations, they are booked months in advance. You will find all the staples that you would expect at any fine dining establishment with the bonus of being at the Oregon coast with the freshest of all things from the sea. We started with Netarts Bay oysters from the North Oregon coast and salads. It was steak night for two of us, prime rib and filet and a beautiful cut of salmon for my local pal. Our sixteen-year-old golf partner went for the mac n' cheese. They can make you a first rate cocktail and have an extensive wine collection. Excellent wines by the glass are available and they are very affordable. I had a glass of the 2022 Austin Hope Cabernet from Paso Robles for $20 to pair with my perfectly prepared filet. 8 oz - Filet - $58 16 oz - Smoked Prime Rib - $55 King Salmon - $42 Dinner with a cocktail, shared starters, salad, wine by the glass and shared sides for two will run you about $250-$350. If you don't play golf don't miss out on having an elevated dining experience at The Ghost Tree. My husband I took my grandmother here for dinner on January 6th, 2024. We had 5:30pm reservations, but got there a little early and they were more then willing to seat us right away. The building definitely has the "wow" factor with its high ceilings and beautiful decor. We could see outside had a gorgeous sitting area with propane fire displays. We started with the raw menu and had the local purple uni, 6 oysters, and ahi tuna crudo. My grandmother kept saying we need a dozen oysters and I said two a piece was enough.. she was right and I was wrong. They were so delectable I could have easily eaten 4 if not more. The tuna and sea urchin were delicious as well. We also got calamari that was the best I have had in a long time, but paled in comparison to the other items. We ordered the dinner rolls, which my grandmother continues to rave about to this day. For dinner Grandma had the jumbo tiger shrimp, my husband had the wagyu flat iron with the chimichurri, and I had the 16 ounce rib eye with the brandy peppercorn. Both steaks were delicious. I think the brandy peppercorn really stole the show for dinners. The shrimp were great and my grandmother saved the mignonette from the oysters and really enjoyed them. For sides we had the whole roasted cauliflower, loaded potato, and crispy brussel sprouts. All the sides were spectacular. For dinner one person had the espresso martini and the other two had port. We also had the seasonal sorbet. They were all good. We had so much food though we had to take some home. My grandmother was delighted as she had lunches and dinners for quite a few days. Since our dinner at Ghost Tree Grill my husband has said to me at least twice that that will be the finest place we go and best meal of 2024. I honestly can't say there is anywhere in Oregon as good as it. We were really quite amazed and have been telling everyone about how wonderful the food was.
