I was looking for good fish tacos on the Oregon Coast near Bandon and Tony's seemed to have the best reviews. I'm not sure why. I walked into what looked like a......souvenir shop? One half looked like a low rent tourist shop and the other half was a tiny window and only a few spots to sit. Definitely not what I was expecting. The fish looked like cat food, all chopped up and mixed in with the cabbage and cream that tasted so much like mayo I thought I was served tuna salad for a second. They were then served on the most anemic looking tortillas ever with the blandest pico de gallo ever. No salt, all mayo flavor. Tacos like this are why people say there aren't any good tacos in Oregon. The staff was ok I guess, however when I was a little confused on the menu the kid behind the counter smirked and talked to me like I was 5 instead of just answering my question. Frankly I'm between 4 and 5. Not quite a 5. Nice cool local place since 1995. Feels very authentic. Some inside seating, ample tables outside. I ordered the Famous crab sandwich and upgraded my side dish to Clam chowder. Both were delicious!! Lots of clams in the chowda, lots of crab between perfectly buttery San Francisco style toast on the sandwich. My friend ordered fish tacos, which she loved. The bun is buttery and airy, the lobster is so rich and delicious. The only downside was the coleslaw, that was dry and not my favorite. I do prefer a wetter coleslaw so that may just be my preference. The oysters were so large and so tasty, the horseradish with them gives the best kick. I can't say enough good things about this spot. It's a bit pricey, but it's so totally worth it. If you're in the area crabbing they'll cook your crabs for you as well, so I thought that was a cool touch! This place is small and crowded with lots of people but for good reason. The crab is fresh, cooked to perfection, and delicious. Tony's Crab Shack was one of the first spots that popped up when I searched for restaurants in Bandon, so we decided to give it a try. I came in craving a whole Dungeness crab, shell and all, because I really enjoy the rich crab butter (tomalley) inside the head. Unfortunately, they do not serve it that way here and the crab comes pre-split in half. I ordered the crab sandwich with clam chowder and three oysters while my husband got the halibut sandwich. Went to this location after a long and tiring drive. The service staff took 30 minutes while we were waiting in line standing to order. Then when we got to the front the person took another 10 minutes to take our order while they were running around busy with other things. Before announcing that they close in 10 and the line behind me out of the door was not happy. After this shenanigan I was asked to tip while paying 35$ for a crab cocktail and a clam chowder. The food itself was ok not great, especially for the money the clam chowder unseasoned and mine did not have a single clam meat in it. Tried out Tony's Crab Shack while visiting Bandon and had a good experience overall. The staff was friendly, the location is great, and the food we did get was definitely tasty! We were a little bummed to hear they were out of the clam chowder (which we'd heard great things about) and another menu item that sounded amazing, so that was a bit of a letdown. We ended up going with a combo platter, which was decent but didn't quite blow us away, especially considering the price. That said, seafood in a tourist town is never cheap, so we weren't too surprised. Despite that, the food was fresh, and the place has a casual, no-frills charm that's very coastal Oregon. While we really enjoy Bandon Fish Market across the way (highly recommend it too!), Tony's definitely holds its own, way better than The Wheelhouse down the road, which honestly missed the mark for us completely. I came with my young children and they brought out a (I'm assuming recently boiled) crab for my children to learn where and how to touch. It's a fun spot right in downtown by the pier so when I say ambiance, this is what I mean. It's perfect ambiance for a crab shack. When you are in town visiting, you have to stop by Tony's Crab Shack. My daughter saw a TikTok about Walter the crab and that's basically how we ended up coming to Bandon. This place was slammed from the second it opened until closing time. We chose to stop by at 6:30 so she could ask to meet Walter. Not only did she get to meet him she also learned quite a few new facts about crabs. The dinner was wonderful ( sorry Walter.... We all still had crab ) service was fast! I couldn't believe it. We tried this place a few weekends ago and were sadly not impressed. Spent $53 on the seafood feast or whatever they call it on the menu. It was half a crab that was barely large enough to keep, four prawns and about 10 small clams in broth with a side of cole slaw with a slice of bread. The best thing on the plate was the bread with the broth the clams were cooked in. Definitely not worth $53 dollars. Service was order at counter, they bring it out and you bus your table which I'm fine with. The restaurant itself is filled with lots of friendly locals and is a great place to people watch. Since we were on the Oregon Coast, we really wanted seafood with a view of the ocean. This fit the bill. It's just across the parking lot from the water. The inside is small, maybe 6 tables. There is four times as much seating outside, but it was full when we arrived which was fine because we just got it to go and took it over to one of the benches by the water. You do order at the counter, there will be a line, it does close at 7:00 pm and they will run out of items like crab as it gets close to 7:00 pm. We had the crab sandwich, the crab cocktail, and a couple of beers. It seemed pretty pricey for an order at the counter, and you get it with a bag of chips or a little container of Coleslaw. However, the sandwich and the cocktail were both very good. The sandwich was served on two slices of butter toasted bread with leaf lettuce, just a dollop of sauce and lots of delicious crab. Seriously a delicious sandwich. The crab cocktail was loose crabmeat with a little bit of cocktail sauce. Again, the crabmeat was utterly delicious. It was definitely worth trying. I'm not sure how often I would go as it doesn't seem like a very good value, but if you want to treat yourself, this is a great option. read more
