My son wanted to try tennis for the first time, so we signed him up for their spring break camp. At the time he had just turned 7 so I was a little nervous to leave him by himself for an entire day, but by the end of the day he was going on and on about how much fun he had. I had high expectations for Giammalva Racquet Club, but my experience was far from what I anticipated. It presents itself as an elite academy on paper, yet it fails to deliver the hospitality and facilities required for hosting high-level national tournaments. I attended a nationals tournament where players from across the country, ranked in the top three of their USTA sections, gathered to compete. Unfortunately, this was the worst nationals experience I've had, and I will not return, regardless of the event's level. Here are the key issues I encountered: - **Lack of Atmosphere**: Unlike other national tournaments, there were no decorations, banners, or photo opportunities. The facility felt outdated and uninviting. - **Staff Attitude**: While the food staff were friendly, the lounge was dirty, with torn and cracked seating. Staff members often engaged in loud personal conversations instead of maintaining a professional environment. - **Inadequate Amenities**: The facility offered no Wi-Fi for players and guests to use while waiting between matches. The courts were in poor condition, with numerous cracks needing repair, which is unacceptable for a national event. - **Insufficient Restrooms**: With only two toilets and one urinal for hundreds of players and their guests, the situation was dire. They refused to open locker rooms for additional restroom access, expecting players to pay a guest fee just to change or shower--what a money-driven approach. - **Poor Communication**: During rain delays, the club scheduled matches for 7 a.m. on Sunday, despite the rain causing delays until nearly 8:45. There was no text communication to inform players of the delays, which could have saved many a 45-minute drive. Overall, the Giammalva Racquet Club did not showcase its facility in the best light, nor did it make guests feel welcome. With the main courts under construction and many issues persisting, it's apparent that the management does not prioritize the guest experience. Many other players echoed my sentiments, expressing they would not return if the event were held here again. It's disheartening to see such a lack of care in a facility that hosts national events. So being fairly new residents in the neighborhood and interested in the racquet club we wandered in because website said bar/cafe open to members and non members we decided to stop in and talk to someone about membership and check the vibe. -100/10 said they did last call at 7 for an 830 close and acted like we were criminals coming in to just get information about membership. We were asked if we were picking up our kid we said no just looking for information and saw cafe was open for over another hour we would have paid whatever for a snack and or drink. Nope the kid at the front had to call someone to tell us we weren't welcome. Do they hate money? Has anyone else had this experience? They lost our money and anyone else who will ask us about it which is unfortunate because a place in the neighborhood had great potential. read more

This is by no means an "elite" tennis academy as they are trying to advertise. Bummed each time my son has to play a tournament at this place. Sammy Giammalva sold this club and they sadly negotiated to keep the club the same name even though he is long gone and coaching elsewhere. Staff is arrogant and good coaches never stay long. Tournaments have bad vibe for juniors playing USTA with loud parents cheering obnoxiously and never told to use proper tennis viewing etiquette if their kids coach at Giammalva. We gave up our membership and coaching here because they were constantly billing incorrectly and got tired of battling with them and all the good coaches and fitness trainers kept leaving. If your kids don't speak Spanish you feel very left out as well. Clearly a reflection on ownership to have such high turnover. Arrogant management and club and courts getting run down. I'm sure Sammy is not thrilled his name is still on the building because it does not reflect his legacy. read more

My daughter went in without her pass today with a friend that we were told she could bring when we signed up, lie!! Josh gave her attitude right from the start (her words). He was a complete jerk on the phone with me. Wouldn't even add my daughter's guest to our membership when I asked to have her added! Big mistake paying 1 year upfront for a membership. In the New Year I was committed to picking up more active hobbies, and a great Groupon deal led me to Giammalva. (4 classes for two, $89!) What a beautiful facility! We've been working with Coach Bailo over the last few weeks, and I absolutely adore him! Not only is he a masterfully skilled tennis player, he's an even better instructor. He'a a stickler for consistency in form and fundamentals, yet he's extremely patient and gracious with a total novice like myself. The club itself is very well kept and features over 20 outdoor courts. I also noticed a weight room. Staff is always friendly and helpful! read more

A Fantastic Tennis Club! A Must-visit! I have been in The Woodlands for three years and wanted to get back into tennis. I am so happy I found Giammalva Raquet Club! The club has beautiful courts and is exactly what I was looking for. The club is much more than just tennis courts. There is a gym, pool, clubhouse, and shower facilities. Getting back into tennis is a little intimidating. Where to play? Who to play with? When? GRC helps with all those issues. They have organized play and drills to get you going. The members are very social so it is easy to meet people and find playing partners. The staff is also wonderful. Jose was super helpful answering all my questions. Sammy is a true gentlemen and took the time to sit down with me and even gave me a tour. My only regret is that I didn't find GRC sooner. I highly encourage all tennis players (or those that want to learn) to go visit. You won't be disappointed. read more

I moved to the Houston area 3 years ago and luckily, found this club right away. Now My wife and I are moving to another state and we have to say goodbye. Giammalva is our favorite tennis club ever- anywhere. Sammy and his team have created an atmosphere of fun, excitement, and great competitive tennis. The members are amazing and we will miss ALL that we have come to know and love. The GETA program is awesome and inspiring with Victor, Greta and their team of coaches. We've watched kids become amazing players and great people over the 3 years we've been here. We are so sad to say goodbye to this amazing group of people and the wonderful setting at Giammalva. We are so grateful to have been members for the past 3 years. And I didn't even mention what's bargain it's is. They've got it all- a great fitness program family fun, fellowship and great tennis. They charged me for a session that my daughter did not sign up for. The instructor also stated she could make up classes she missed for a death in the family and afterwards he denied this and they are charging for the make up classes. They are inconsistent in their policies and how they treat their customers. read more

Pretty clueless to how this club works. But everyone was telling me to go to Giammalva. My son has been taking tennis lessons for a while and his racket had worn out. Basically, the frame was completely busted. So I walk in, totally unsure of where to go or what to do. Immediately the man at the front desk talks us through the process of looking for a racket and then provides us with a free demo. Again, still clueless, he lines up 7 or 8 similar rackets in a case and sends us out to a court. This place is huge! Like 2 dozen plus tennis courts. The walkways are beautiful, the courts well taken care of, and at the very back is a board to hit against. So my son and I start carrying the case of rackets when the man offers to carry it for us. So Nice! This is middle of the day in a Houston summer. You don't go outside unless you're headed to a pool. Anyways, he lugs the rackets to the very back, showing us the way, and let's my son spend the next half hour or so practicing against the board with each racket. I'm patient, though dripping with sweat, until he narrows it to two. We head back to the office where the man helps my son decide on the final one. We purchase it and 2 days later, my son has a brand new racket. They string them there apparently. So for all your tennis questions, these guys are there to help. The reason I give it a 4 is because you can find the same brand of racket online or at a sports store for a couple Andrew Jackson's cheaper. But when you're clueless like me, it's nice to have experience with the rackets, recognizing the weight, grip, and tension of the racket. Giammalva provides that experience. read more

Came by the club yesterday, what a great place to play tennis in a scenic setting. The employees couldn't have been nicer and it's a great family atmosphere. The courts are well maintained and the fitness area is very nice. They have a wide variety of classes for adults and juniors regardless of your level. I've been to many tennis clubs in the Houston area and would put this club up against any of them, come out and give the facility a try you will be pleasantly surprised all they have to offer. read more

My husband got me tennis lessons here. I called to get simple information days and time of the lessons. The lady who answered didn't let me ask one question before she got my name and number and told me Sammy will call me back. Two weeks later I got the same thing. Today I called to get a refund and they said they will only give me half my money back. And they will mail it on the 16th. I don't know why they won't put it back on my card. I don't like the idea that " the check is in the mail". They said they were doing me a favor by giving me half my money back. Bad customer service!!
