A must if you are in the area! The food, service, and ambiance were all beyond amazing!!

Hubs and I dropped into Giannfranco's Trattoria about a hour before closing time on a weeknight. The front dining area was empty except for a table of four. The owner advised us that we can sit in the front dining area but kitchen and wait service might be slow due to the back patio being full of customers. I appreciated that she told us and we decided to stay. She had a lighthearted sense of humor as well. Luv her wit and authenticity. We told the waiter it was our first time here. Hubs ordered a drink and the meatball appetizer (meatballs with crostini) but asked to be brought out for dinner with my spaghetti and palette (meatballs). The waiter asked if we wanted bread. We said yes. He didn't suggest this as an added appetizer. He just asked if we wanted bread knowing it was our first time here. But we found out later when the bill came that it cost $15, priced more than the meatball appetizer. So for first timers, if you are asked if you would like some bread, it's $15. The bread was lightly buttered and slightly grilled and cut into 8 one inch pieces and served with a side of marinara. The meatball appetizer crostini looked similar to the bread in the other appetizer, and I believe the same marinara. My dish was tasty. The marinara had a subtle flavor along with the meatballs and spaghetti. Housemade authentic flavors. I'm totally apt to come back and try other menu items. They are located on Linden Avenue in downtown Carpinteria, a few blocks from the beach. The parking is free street parking. read more

We were staying in Santa Barbara for the weekend and decided to leave Santa Barbara for our favorite Italian restaurant in Carpinteria. The atmosphere in the back patio which I had no idea about walking in was warm and inviting with soft lighting The owner stopped by and chatted with us as well as offered great recommendations. We shared the Fra Diavolo,-Italian sausage, peppers, and onions in a spicy pomodoro sauce and it was rich, creamy, and cooked to perfection. To top it all off, we ended with tiramisu, which was light, fluffy, and had just the right balance of coffee and sweetness. The wine selection was also impressive, complementing each dish beautifully. Whether you're looking for a romantic dinner or a casual meal this is a must-visit spot for authentic Italian cuisine. Went here this past weekend and for the most part, it was pretty good. I had the Sacchetti which was so good I refused to share with my husband (which never happens), and my husband had the lobster ravioli which he loved. The patio is very inviting, and the only ambiance you will truly get in Carpinteria. Now for the not so great. My daughter ordered the Aglio E Olio, but could barely eat it due to the amount of olive oil the pasta was bathing in. I tried pouring it out but to no avail. Unfortunately the one thing that will most likely will not have us returning is the fact that you pay $22 for a wedge salad (with is nothing to write home about), and then if you ask for extra dressing they charge you $3. The sheer principle of spending $200 on pasta, and then to be charged $3 for a little plastic cup of extra dressing? Do better. We think nothing of dropping hundreds of dollars for a good meal, but charge me once for a tablespoon of dressing which is petty, and we will not be a returning customer. read more

I live here and have gone to this restaurant several times and always witness unusual situations. My husband refuses to go here so I go with a friend. We were craving Italian so we made a reservation for Saturday night. We arrived and were seated. There were other patrons but it wasn't busy. We waited, waited and waited for a server. We were catching up after the holidays so we just chatted. Finally, someone arrived. We ordered drinks and asked for water too. We also ordered an appetizer. We waited and waited. One water arrived with drinks and no appetizer. We asked for bread, no bread arrived either. When we ordered, the server quietly said that they were very irritated about a child seating adjacent to us. We were shocked that they would complain about a guest and a well behaved child at that! Wow! What did they say about us?! Finally our food arrived. We never got our appetizer and still no bread. My glass of water was empty and not refilled. The restaurant was getting busier and we noticed other tables that still had menus and no one was helping them. We caught someone's attention and asked again for bread. A bit later, the server pushed a small plate of toasted bread on to the table. Plain bread with no oil or balsamic as they usually serve. We were almost done with the meal so it was a little late. Shortly after, our plates were whisked away. No inquiry about our meal. No dessert menu. No water refill. As the server tried to take my friend's drink, he mumbled that we need to leave. Wait, what?! A few minutes later our server came by to tell us that we needed to leave because they needed our table. We commented that there were other tables but the she said they needed our table. Wait, what?! I don't like to give bad reviews but I LIVE here! I support local businesses, especially during the slower seasons, and promote them all I can. There are soon going to be new eating establishments that open so I hope they work to improve customer experience for locals and visitors alike. My advice, go somewhere else. We had a reservation for 7:30 and waited to be seated. When we were finally seated we didn't see a server at all. After 20 minutes we were given a glass of water and told someone should be with us soon. We never had a server come to our table. We heard a server tell another table the kitchen was very backed up and didn't know when they could expect their food, if they decided to order. He said they should have been told that when they were seated that it was a long wait. After 45 minutes of not having anyone come to our table, we left. We were really hoping to have a nice meal after hearing how good the food was. Maybe on our next visit we'll have better luck. read more

Came for Father's Day. Party of 9 with reservations. This was the strangest experience at a restaurant we have ever had. Place was completely empty inside. People were sitting on the outside patio. The waiter was unfriendly and kept rolling his eyes at us. It's like they didn't want us to be there. They have a rule that kids can only eat there if they are 8 years old which is not an issue because our kid is 8. When the host asked us the age and we said 8 he did not believe us. Strange experience before we even sat down. Everything we asked the waiter acted annoyed. It was such bad energy for Father's Day. Sad because we love to support small businesses and the food is pretty good. But won't be coming back because it doesn't seem like they and our business anyway. read more

What a pleasant restaurant. The garden setting is beautiful. Plenty of heaters for the chilly evenings. The service was impeccable. The food is yummy. My husband and I shared a burrata salad, we could have eaten two. The ambience was so relaxing and with a bottle of wine. Aah. This is a small restaurant with maybe 12 tables plus bar seating. The food tasted authentic Italian and the service was attentive and friendly. The portions were small but this was fine by us. Some places pile on the pasta and sauce. We took our 6yo child and the staff were great with her but this isn't really a kid friendly place , it's more of a white tablecloth formal experience and better suited to couples or small adult groups. GOOD OPTION FOR ITALIAN FARE IN CARP! Italian food in Carpinteria, but not just pizza??? There's a few options with pasta and other Italian entrées to choose from. As this is the only "trattoria" in the area, we decided to hit this for no other reason except that it had a version of seafood pasta in the menu. Hey, that's what The Old Man likes to order, so gotta keep him happy for OUR sanity lol! Yelp directions are on point. Looks like it's street parking for this area close by. Probably some public parking somewhere but didn't need to search for it today. COVID-19 Mandates being followed appropriately. Friendly staff throughout our visit. Lovely patio area for lunch, all parties well spaced. Ok... Mangia MANGIA! :) BURRATA $15: Under the "Antipasti" options, this was a tasty dish to start lunch with. Burrata presentation is a little different, rather than a whipped snow cap look, it has more of a cottage cheese visual. Regardless, it still had a nice creamy texture. Add to it, crisp fresh tomatoes, little leaves of endive, thin slices of prosciutto, sunflower seed topping and a drizzle of a basil infused olive oil makes for a light sampling to tease the taste buds. I personally would've liked a stronger sense of basil, but The Old Man liked it just the way it was, so that's good enough for me ;) MEATBALLS (Antipasti) $12: Meatball are homemade here! Oh YEAH! Gotta sample those for sure! They come 4 in an order, bathed in a marinara sauce. A lil on the small side for $3 each. Ball was moist and tender and had a good flavor to it. Marinara was quite rich with a touch of sweetness, complimented the meatballs well. ROASTED PORTOBELLO NAPOLEON $15: Wifey's choice, had to go with the large fungus lol. Portobello was served warm, combined with sautéed garlic spinach and goat cheese. The Port Wine sauce had a sweetness to it. Good veggie option that was filling enough for a lunch selection. CAESAR CARDINI $12: Added Chicken for a dose of protein to the meal. Good size for lunch. This was my biggest meal for today as I'm fueling a KETO diet at the moment, just had to pass on the croutons and onions. Nice creaminess, not soupy at all. Good flavor too. Next day still lost a few pounds, so a solid keto option with this one. POSITANO $22: This was their seafood pasta dish option for lunch. The Old Man enjoyed it. Good amount of Mussels, Clams, Shrimp and Scallops for the dish. More of a lemony flavor than a seafood sensation with the white wine lemon cream sauce. Entrée serving was on the smaller side, ideal for a quick lunch or light eaters. If you want something big and hearty, this is ain't for you! FOR Carpinteria, this is good option for Italian fare. Friendly and attentive staff. It would be Interesting to see what the serving sizes are for dinner, as the lunch menu options were a bit on the dainty side. Enjoy! read more

This restaurant has nice decor and is very comfortable. Great outdoor patio dinning area and very attentive staff. The food, however, is mediocre at best. Both my wife and I had different pastas with cream sauces, and both were watery and not very flavorful. I've been going to this restaurant for years, and can honestly say that I have never been disappointed. I am always impressed by their meals, so incredibly good. The customer service is impeccable, and the restaurant is cozy. The owners are friendly and make you feel like family. The patio is enchanting, making you feel like you've stepped out of the husle and bustle of things, and are relaxing at a wonderful Italian restaurant away from it all. One of the strangest/awkward/terrible dining experiences I have ever had. We walked into an empty restaurant, grabbed a menu and sat down. The male server said under his breath, but loud enough for us to hear. I guess they couldn't wait. He then ripped the menus out of our hands and said you grabbed the dinner menus here is lunch. My partner said we should go, I said we have been driving for hours and starving it can't be that bad..... wrong! We ordered lobster ravioli, which my partner took one bite of and did not eat, the pasta itself was very thick and the filling was the texture of baby food. I had the chicken Parmesan on gluten free penne. It was very small and the pasta had some sauce thrown on the top. It looked like my 11 year old made it. Whatever, we were starving so I gave some to my man since he didn't touch his. The bill came and we were charged $37.00 for chicken Parmesan! When I asked the server if that price was correct he very rudely said yes. I guess I ordered the dinner portion. He then proceeded to continue talking to himself very loudly about us. The entire time. It was the strangest thing I have ever witnessed. I grew up in an Italian restaurant, I could never in my life imagine talking bad about patrons. Especially considering the subpar food at $98.00 for lunch! 1 glass of Prosecco, side salad, chicken Parmesan and lobster ravioli that was not touched. After speaking to locals apparently the male server is known in the area for being particularly rude to patrons and they feel bad for the older couple that own the restaurant because he is driving their business into the ground. My hope in writing this review is that they see this and find caring servers that want to see their business thrive.
