I had the pleasure of trying Santa Barbara Hives food and products at the Santa Barbara Earth Day Festival. The food and honey are fresh and delicious, and their honey hand balm is soft and deeply moisturizing. Their staff are some of the kindest people you'll ever meet and you can tell how passionate they are about the business and making a positive impact on their community. At one point they noticed I didn't get my order in time, and brought out an extra slice to thank me for my patience, which goes to show their attention to making their customers happy and quickly correcting any mistakes. Food was extra fresh and absolutely delicious. Pepperoni Pizza - 5/5. Soft sourdough crust and mini pepperoni cups. Salad - 5/5. Fresh. Croutons and ranch made in house. Cookies - 5/5. Peanut butter chuck and chocolate chip cookies were perfectly chunky. Hot Honey - 5/5. Extra spicy (and when I say spicy, I mean spicy), and goes well with the pizza! Pizza, cakes and pastries and so much more. Easy walk from the campground. A nice destination for your morning bike ride too! Friendly service. Most people get their orders to go, but there are about 3 tables and chairs outside available. I have been wanting to try this place out for a while now since I love everything sourdough. My family and I finally came to have lunch on Saturday afternoon. What a lovely spot, so many products are sold here. Honey, jams, cookbooks, candles, soaps and more. Of course I bought a cookbook and an organic Castile soap. Loved both. Now the food. The pepperoni sourdough pizza was amazinggggg I wish we ordered two instead of the goat cheese and mushroom one. That was good too but the pepperoni pizza won our heart. I ordered an iced tea which was ok. Not the best I had but not bad either. They also sell sourdough bread, cookies and a few other pastries. The main reason for taking one star out is the customer service. Wow wow wow very unfriendly ladies working here. I'm not sure why. They ignored us many times thought our visit as if we weren't standing there to place an order. I had to get their attention by saying excuse me (can we order ?) anyways very unpleasant experience .... I'll come again for the pepperoni pizza cause it was really good. This is a definite must-try spot if you are going to visit Carp for the beach or passing through. It looks like a little industrial building but there is a small patio available to sit outside and there are so many cute things in the gift shop for bread bakers, home chefs, social honeys, olive oils, jams and stuff for people that love candles. Their cookies caught my eye but I was also really tempted by the cheesecakes. I imagine their pizzas must be awesome since they bake their own sourdough breads. They also offer organic ice cream. But me and my girlfriends got cookies and coffee. I got an iced lavender latte and a chocolate chunk cookie. Everything was amazing! read more

Not a lengthy review because we only stopped here for coffees on our way home from Santa Barbara. Coffees were fine. Freshly made espresso cortado and an iced Americano. Coffees were freshly made and tasty and strong. Perfect! I actually didn't take a picture of the coffees, but I did take pictures of this eclectic little spot. It's kind of tucked into an industrial looking building close to the beach. They've got coffees, bakery goods, pepperoni pizzas and soap and gifty knick knack type items. We spent 20 minutes in line with 3 customers ahead of us, and never even placed our order. The guy at the counter was somehow overwhelmed and unbothered at the same time. I would say they were understaffed except that there was someone in the back who didn't look too busy to come out and give the counter server a hand. Owner is super friendly. He got his sourdough starter from Noma in Copenhagen (often ranked the #1 restaurant in the world), and it was indeed special. Wife loved the pepperoni pizza. Only thing is service, they forgot our order and gave away the pastries we ordered so they were out... they forgot to tell my sister they ran out of her sourdough French toast and so they gave her a cash refund after her waiting 15 mins. I think, no I know finding this treasure was the highlight of our weekend overnight! We came in late Saturday night and direly needed coffee and a lite bite. Do yourself a favor and STOP HERE! This wonderful cafe and bakery is also The perfect spot for last minute gifts, birthday gifts, gifts just because. While you wait for your organic coffee you can browse around the shop. You will probably end up buying things you like, love, and need! Shopping not your thing, that's ok, weird, but ok. You can take yourself to the back and sample their honey and hot honey offerings. Careful though once you taste it's impossible not to purchase. :) Coffee! We ordered two oat milk lattes one vanilla and one oat. Came out hot and strong the espresso comes through beautifully. On the second day we ordered two cashew milk lattes, one with vanilla and honey. Do yourself a favor get the house made cashew milk and local wildflower honey latte. The cashew milk is a little thicker on the tongue but is so delicious with the honey. It's smooth and velvety as well. (Note to self ask if they sell their cashew milk next time.) Pizza! So I have a whole bunch of auto immune disorders which basically make bread a no no, however the gods are merciful and I can enjoy sourdough. The pizza is sourdough!!! AND they have dairy free cashew Parmesan! It's an absolute must to walk over order a pizza and enjoy it by your campfire. Pastries! We ordered the chocolate and plain croissant they were hot out of the oven and I decided eating gluten and dealing with the consequences later was worth it . 13/10 would absolutely do again. It's worth it to ask when these will be hot out of the oven and coming back to purchase then! How often do you get to experience hot melt in your mouth croissants? Breakfast! If you don't follow any of my above advice from this review a least do this. Order the almond butter and honey breakfast sandwich. It will change how you view sourdough. I always thought sourdough was a savory treat. I now realize I have been eating sourdough wrong my entire life. Sourdough was made to be paired with creamy runny almond butter and thick honey. TLDR: order a cashew latte, buy a hot pastry, consume and almond butter breakfast sandwich, order a pizza, and do some shopping. Gluten free and dairy free options! Thank me later! read more

The location is unconventional. It's a little hidden in a parking lot with a car shop, but the food and lattes do not disappoint. My son loved the sourdough bread cheese pizza and my husband and I tried the tri tip sandwich, and turkey pesto sandwich. It was amazing on fresh baked sourdough and the local honey was used to make the bbq sauce. The lattes here are amazing as well. Took home some local honey and hot honey. We are excited to try those. If you are allergic to bees or very scared beware because they do buzz around inside. They didn't bother us at all. read more

I've heard many good things about this place the girl with the curly hair is amazing and sweet the other girl is just rude and not friendly and cold , the way she speaks to people is unbelievable. the food is delicious tri-tip sandwich and turkey basil sandwich is what we tried but the other cashier's attitude, I'm not sure I want to return a HUGE turn off . They are a little off the beaten path, so your first time there you will question if you are going the right way. But once you turn into the driveway there is a nice big sign welcoming you! They have come a long way since they first opened! There is now a coffee bar , a dessert case, and a food case!!! Honey tasting is always free and I HIGHLY recommend you do it! You will buy a jar. They carry organic coffee beans and also have single origin beans from a farm in Ethiopia. If you are a coffee snob like me, you will also buy a bag of beans. There are candles, local artwork on the walls (also for purchase), Olive oils, homemade Nutella (I almost bought a jar), t-shirts and beanies!!! Once, I was behind a grown man at the Chipotle order line (during COVID), and he insisted on reaching over the glass to point out each ingredient he wanted in his bowl. I thought of this during my visit to Santa Barbara Hives. I had never been to the cafe, but I heard they are also a bakery offering croissants and other pastries. We made the trek to Carpinteria but unfortunately arrived too late as they only had cinnamon rolls left. The rolls smelled good, so we got in line behind a family of four. Each family member must have had 1-2 items but somehow it took about 10 minutes for them to check out because of how slow the service was. Each time someone ordered a cinnamon roll, the employee insisted on bringing out too ceramic trays and asking them to choose which roll the wanted. The customers then stuck their finger inches away from the roll. Then she carefully packaged it up. When it was our turn my friend and I each ordered a roll. We weren't asked our preference. I also tried to buy some vinegar which had no price on the bottle and not price tag on the shelf. I thought it was $20 but when the total for one roll and one bottle came up to $35 I was confused. I was given a total for just the roll and paid. No receipt was printed or offered. Their POS also has no screen and no confirmation. You have no idea what anything costs. It's just a fun guessing game. My friend commented she was surprised at how "affordable" the roll was. I asked her how much it was, and she said it was $5. Sounds good right? Until I got home and saw we were given a QUARTER of a roll. That's right, it's a $20 cinnamon roll if you want the whole thing. How did it taste? Pretty good! A little dry but also plenty fluffy like I like. What's funny is two of us thought it kind of tasted like banana; maybe from the glaze or frosting? I think SB Hives is great if you are a local and want a slow-paced morning or outing. read more
