Fantastic all around! The patio is so cute and covered in plants. You feel like you're tucked away in a secret garden with the whimsical mismatched tables and seats. Our server was very nice and when I ordered a gluten free pasta she brought out gluten free bread for the table without even asking, such a nice touch that I rarely see at restaurants. They were a bit busy the night we visited so the food took a while to come out, but it was worth the wait! I got the gluten free primavera Rosa with added chicken (and it only cost me $3 extra which so affordable!) and my date got the chicken piccata. We were both raving about it as we scarfed it down! First, the ambience is really cozy! It looks like an old farm house with mismatched chairs, dishes, etc. feels like visiting Grandma! Love it! We were greeted by Pierre, our server, and he's probably the best server we've had in a long time! He's young but has great people attitude! Now onto to the food... It was spectacular! We had different dishes and all were equally delicious- lasagna, puttanesca and chicken piccata! I am a California native and although I was raised in LA, I spent my summers in this area but haven't had a chance to discover this hidden gem. Came here around 7pm on Saturday as a party of 7. Got seated in a couple minutes. The restaurant was almost full. Since there was only one server at the time it took about 10-15 minutes to get our orders taken. The food came out within 5-10 minutes. They gave us some chili flakes and parmesean. The chicken alfredo was good. Not too salty but the chicken was tender and the pasta was just right. The insalata pizza was super delicious. The arugula and prosciutto gave it a lot of flavor. The garlic bread didn't have much garlic flavor on it and some of the garlic was burnt however the bread was fluffy. Overall a great italian place. Bread was crunchy and buttery. (4.5/5) Fuego Diego - This pizza had a little kick to it from the spicy sausages. Pretty much a supreme pizza with all the awesome toppings. It's delicious. (4.5/5) Lasagna - Best lasagna I've ever had, no joke. I prob had the first batch of the day since I had to wait 30 minutes for it to be done (they told me it would take 30 minutes). Cheese game was on point and everything was just spot on. Top was crispy from the cooked cheese. A must get! (5/5) I'm surprised it wasn't too busy on a Sunday when the food is actually super good. Ambience is perfect. Even with the freeway just on the other side of the road, the little storefronts and restaurants have created a little haven away from that. The food was pretty good. We were passing through and felt peckish for pasta, and this places showed up. We got the Torta Caprese, the Viaggio Italiano, the Primavera Rosa pasta with chicken, the Alfredo pasta with chicken, and the lasagna. I really loved the Alfredo. The sauce was thick and hearty. Definitely creamy without being "milky". This dish is more of the Americanized alfredo, so if that's what you're looking for, it will hit that comfort, fulfilling spot. The Primavera Rosa was good and had a nice depth of flavor, but it seemed like there was too much going on. Something in the sauce stayed with us for hours after the meal (issues with digesting). We got both pasta dishes with chicken, and they were decent chunks! The lasagna was okay, but a bit basic. The meat inside was mushy and a bit too oily. It didn't seem like there was ricotta in it, and if there was, it was extremely minimal. It was also better straight out of the oven. Once it cooled a bit, it lost flavor. The Torta Caprese was really good. The flaky pastry stayed pretty solid while eating through it. The Viaggio Italiano was superb. The meats were a good quality, I really liked the salami. The burrata with pesto drizzle was perfect. We rounded off the meal with a cup of coffee, and woo man, it was delightfully strong. Almost to Turkish coffee level (obviously without the coffee grounds). If I was traveling the area again, I'd go back. read more

We stopped in for early Happy Hour dinner and were completely surprised and impressed by their excellent food, bevs and service. Ordered off the Happy Hour menu and tried the gourmet veggie pizza (thin crust) and baked Chicken Parm bites. Both were delicious and authentic. And at $12.50/plate even the portions were reasonably generous. We shared a full bottle of Chardonnay at $25. They even served a complimentary olive and sour dough bread plate! Prices were pre-Covid. Highly recommend the hot gooey brownie bites with perfect vanilla ice cream. The service was excellent as well. The vibe is great and the decor cozy and creative. We went to this restaurant for the third time because the food has always been very good, although the prices are a bit high. The owner, Mario, was the one who attended us. We ordered a charcuterie board as an appetizer and asked that no more bread be brought. Later, when the pasta dishes arrived, we asked for bread on two separate occasions. We were five people, and we like to eat our meals with bread, but it was never brought to the table. When we mentioned this, Mario explained that the bread is "for the other families" and that only one plate of bread is given per table. He even told us that if we wanted, he could sell us bread for $6 to take home, when what we wanted was to have bread with our meal. The situation was very uncomfortable and hard to understand. It's a shame, because the food is good, but the service--especially coming from the owner--was very poor. We left with a bitter feeling and decided not to return. read more

Very homey and rustic atmosphere. We were able to pick our own seats so we chose to sit outside and the smell of the ocean added to our experience. We were attended by all the staff and they were very personable and helpful. The food was AMAZING. Started out with the antipasto which was refreshing and opened up our stomachs to the entrees. We ordered the wagyu bites with gorgonzola (specialty menu item), diavolo pizza, and primavera rosa. All the choices were delicious and I would recommend any of these choices for your first time here. I made a reservation for 8 people on Sunday. We were seated quickly, as we were the only guests in the restaurant at the time. Our initial server, a male, was very polite and had great manners. We placed our order, but despite being the only customers, our food took about an hour to arrive. During that time, we noticed our server leave his shift without any formal handoff to another staff member. The remaining employees appeared to be primarily bus staff, and it was unclear who was responsible for assisting us. When the food finally arrived, my dad's order was incorrect, and my brother's order had not been entered at all, causing an additional delay while everyone else had already been served and finished eating. Since we were celebrating my mom's birthday, I asked if my brother's meal could be discounted given the situation. The cook kindly added two extra desserts to the birthday treat and provided us with a $30 gift certificate, which I felt was a fair resolution. My sisters and I first accidentally found Thario's on 4th of July weekend. We were traveling from LA to Solvang for the day. The freeway was at a standstill and we were starving. We worked our way off the freeway and made 2 left turns off the 101 and came upon a string of restaurants. We stood in front of them and just randomly picked Thario's. For starters the decor is shabby chic, it's got a homey vibe which I really enjoy. Then came our server with two plates of delicious, warm bread and one of my favorites: kalamata olives! At this stage I was hopeful. There were 6 of us and we all ordered something different. The food was beyond amazing, it was spectacular. Flash forward to 2 weeks afterwards, this past July 25th for my son's birthday. We decided to head back to Solvang and of course, make a stop at Thario's. Now you know if it's good consistently, it's not a fluke, it's just a damn good restaurant. I love this place, the service, the food, everything is perfection. I wish I lived closer because I would visit them weekly. Hands down a hidden gem. Get the lasagna, it's amazing. The wagyu bites... holy moly, a bite of heaven. Oh and because it was my son's birthday, they brought out ice cream, ice cream cones and little bites of the most delicious warm, fudgye chocolate cake. Completely over the top!
