Overall I generally like going to most Giant grocery stores except for this one. Overall I have had good service from most of the staff except one of the deli people. He's a tall medium brown skin older guy who consistently gives me a hard time. I stopped shopping at this Giant for over a half a year because of a really bad incident. I had tried to avoid this man by putting my order in through the kiosk. (I think he had issues with me because I don't have a lot to say to him.). I returned to see if my order was ready a half hour later. It wasn't which is ridiculous. I came back at the end of my shopping trip for my family. I asked someone behind the counter about it, and the annoying guy yelled to his coworker to "tell her the order is not ready yet". So after an hour I see they are not going to fill the order. So I check out. I get half way home and I get a text that my deli order is ready! I shouldn't have took the bait, but I did. When I get back to the deli, the guy tells me that my order is not ready. I tell him to cancel. I walk out as this guy is laughing his head off. I stopped coming until this Sunday morning Even though I don't even go to the deli and minding my own business, this man, who I don't know from Adam, is talking about me to someone in the next department. there was a stack of papers on a table claiming to be job applications asking only for your name phone and email. I filled one out then was contacted by Kathie. this manager is so rude!! I have never been spoken to like this at a job interview. she kept saying, "you will do this you will do that." when I hadnt even been hired yet, how you going to order me around when I'm a stranger! kathie told me this is a bad job and the customers are going to be nasty to me. and so what do you mean by that? I'm supposed to take their abuse? Kathie the manager has a nasty demeanor, NO manners, where does she get off thinking she can talk to people like this? She needs to get fired! read more

Imagine that you are a first-time customer at the Giant in Cockeysville, MD. After parking, as you walk from your car to the store, a tall man comes across the parking lot headed in your direction. He is not wearing a Giant badge or shirt that would identify him as a Giant employee. This man intermittently howls, grunts, and utters nonlinguistic shouts. He does not seem to be communicating with anyone in particular. You find this bizarre behavior frightening, both because the man continues to grunt and howl intermittently when he passes right by you, and because you yourself have been subjected to domestic violence in the past. You fear this man's behavior may trigger a panic attack. ...... I shop at this Giant several afternoons every month. I often see this man and hear his vocal outbursts from across the parking lot. It appears that his job is to retrieve shopping carts left outside in the parking lot. I believe he probably has a developmental disorder, with loud phonic tics as one of its symptoms. Twice I have expressed my concern at the customer service desk, and twice I have been brushed off. The store claims that an employee monitors the parking lot, but if my experience is indicative, this has not made any difference. In fairness, I must add that I have never seen the man directly threaten or assault anyone physically. ...... The irony is that as a mental health provider I believe in the value of supported employment opportunities for individuals with developmental disorders, provided that a specific placement is appropriate for the person, given the type of his/her disability. It is essential that the individual receive the necessary support and guidance to ensure that s/he can handle the responsibilities of the work placement in an appropriate manner. This has not happened at the Cockeysville Giant. ..... On the other hand, at the Timonium Giant there is a young woman with Downs Syndrome who helps with bagging at the checkout counter. Every time I've gone there she has been friendly and helpful in bagging my groceries. I appreciate this. This is the way supported employment is supposed to work. read more

This letter outlines an incident that happened today at this location of Giant. Read on, and if you like flies crawling all over your fish before you buy it, by all means, come here. - Letter start - This letter is to report an incident that occurred at the Timonium Square branch of Giant Food Supermarkets on Monday, May 26, 2014 at approximately 2:00pm. I was stopped in front of the fish and seafood counter at the Giant in Timonium Square investigating the prices when, to my horror, I saw a live fly crawling all over the tray of "sale" tilapia fish, which was mounded in the tray. I then alerted my husband to the situation, and he encouraged me to speak to the person behind the seafood counter regarding the problem. When I spoke to the person working behind the counter (I unfortunately did not get his name, but it was an older Caucasian gentlemen approximately in his late 50s), he simply grunted "uh" and turned away from the counter. To my shock, he did not immediately remove the tray and, indeed, the tray with the tilapia remained inside of the counter for at least ten minutes until my husband and I went to Customer Relations to have our entire scanner order voided and to explain the situation. The woman working at Customer Relations was sympathetic, but she did not assure us that the problem would be taken care of, nor do we actually know what happened after our order was voided. We immediately left and chose to patronize another location. I am writing this letter out of deep concern that the Giant in Timonium Square is not being cleaned nor taken care of properly. I must state that the produce display on that date was also of concern; while there were no visible health code violations that I could see, the fruit was quite bruised and "old" looking - certainly not of the quality that I expect from Giant stores. We have patronized this location in the past frequently, but it is of grave doubt that we will do so again due to the reasons outlined. Flies are extremely filthy creatures that spread disease; if we as customers can see them in public crawling over the product and nothing is being done, I can only imagine what is going on behind the scenes. We are extremely disappointed and concerned at the lack of service and cleanliness that the Timonium Square Giant has shown us as customers. - end letter - A copy of this letter was sent to both Giant Food HQ, and the Baltimore County Health Department. I will update if and when I get any word back from either of them. Until then, I'll be shopping elsewhere. Far, far from here. UPDATE, 6/8/14: Contacted by the general manager at Timonium Square and offered a gift card and "most sincere apologies". The salad-bar at this Giant is on point. I'm not the type to typically frequent grocery store salad bars--no no--but this one is really well stocked. Frequently replenished, fresh ingredients, and a vigilant caretaker that has an eagle eye (I've seen her change out an entire tub of carrots when someone got a little too close without the tongs). This Giant also has an all-natural/organic aisle. Honest Tea, Luna Bars and Coconut Oil abound. I live in the city, work in the county. It's a Giant! What else can you say?? It's a nice grocery store- large, good variety, nice bakery, great deli, good cheese selection, full ailse dedicated to orgainic/hippy food, good meats and really, really good fresh seafood. Prices are OK. Service is decent-- sometimes they'll offer to help you out to your car, even if you're a shaved-headed over 200lb dude like me-- that's friendly service!! Why only 3 stars??? I liked the now-dead Superfresh better. Superfresh just had a touch more variety, a bit more quality in terms of bakery breads and exotic cheeses. Meats were cheaper at Superfresh, too. Giant is now my default grocery store. It's nice-- but if the Shoprite keeps it's prices reasonable and keeps up a variety similar to Superfresh, I may switch. read more

I love this store. There are so many things I can find here that I the other stores around here have stopped carrying. Their fruits and vegetables are fresh & don't have flies around them. (See my review of another store nearby that I no longer frequent.) Salad bar is fresh with a lot of choices! There is an aisle with organic & gluten free food, and it is near the frozen foods at the far end of the store. I also enjoy the scanner choice. If you bring your own reusable bags and have a Giant card, you can grab a scanner, and scan items as you go through the store. Once you're done, you hop into a line (you can do the 12 or less line because you are only scanning the one thing -- the handheld scanner!) and it totals your order, you pay, & you are on your way! I've heard it can be very busy and crowded at on-hours. I try to go when it won't be busy, so I cannot attest to that aspect. If I were there when it was crowded, and service poor, I know I would feel differently about the store. read more

Thus was the first time I had been in this Giant. It's a pretty huge location. I only needed to purchase a cake to smash my nieces face in for her birthday. Something I had been promising her to do since she turned 4 last year. They had just what she wanted. A yellow cake with white icing. And even better they had a half cake. That worked perfect for what we needed it for. Of course my niece spotted a elmo cipcake that she just had to have. Well, we were celebrating her birthday so to the counter we went with an elmo cupcake and a half of cake. Customer service was great. Holidays were coming so we did put something in the bucket as we exited the store to help someone else. read more

Giant Timonium is one of several stores I shop in. Shopping here can be annoying at times because this store is not that organized. In addition I use scan it & they have yet to fix scanning loose fruits & veggies. I've tried it a few times & even had the CS person help out & they couldn't get it to work. The most frustrating thing with this store is if you decide to use scan it, you get audited. This is fine 2-3x. I have been audited more than 8x! I have only used it for the past 6 months. You would think Giant could figure out with all my information they have, that I am a " good" scanner. The purpose of scan it is to save time, but when you get audited, it adds a lot of extra time & in addition, some of my perishables have been bruised. I am beginning to rethink my grocery run to Giant as it is mostly for convenience that I use it. read more

I always go here for grocery shopping and I'm sure that won't change .... but .... Without trying to offend anyone, my one suggestion would be to train the cashiers/baggers in food safety. Multiple times with multiple different cashiers, they've placed my leaking raw meat into the same bag with items like hygiene items (toothbrushes!) or my fresh fruit. At the giant where I previously lived they would always double bag raw meat by itself. this is bad enough normally .... but now I'm currently pregnant. My baby and I could get really sick. read more

Price Gauging ... Over the past few weeks this Giant Store has put higher prices on a lot of items .. The top item has been chicken, and meat. They stop putting items throughout the store on sale like they did prior to this Coronavirus Spread. They are taking advantage of what people need by hiking their prices. Customer service sucks. I bought pastrami seasoned turkey breast, and by the time I got home had realized they had given me regular pastrami (even though the label was marked correctly, apparently the person at the deli doesn't know the difference between beef and turkey). When I called she said to bring it back and they'll exchange it. I asked her about my time and inconvenience in having to go back there, and she said she was sorry, but there is nothing they can do about that. I responded by telling her that I am also sorry, but there is about 5 other grocery stores in a 1 mile radius, and I won't be coming back to Giant again. read more

I had called the pharmacy to see if they had a medication that the pharmacy by me did not have. All I had was ONE question, not only was I put on hold for 20 min, when the pharmacist finally came to the phone, he was beyond obnoxious! He started yelling at me, which is extremely unprofessional, telling me I don't know what I'm talking about, calling me dumb, and then proceeded to hang up on me while I was still talking!!! If you're looking for unprofessional, rude, obnoxious, unintelligent, this is the place for you!! But for everyone else, why waste your time there, where you can go somewhere else and be treated like an actual human being!! read more

This is a "gucci" Giant and has tons of organic foods (I recall in Columbia, MD the first "gucci" Giant was located in a very fancy new neighborhood-Dorsey's Forge). The service is fast, considering it was before a Raven's game. Their old location had very small aisles and we avoided it completely. Their deli is very slow, but you can utilize a computerized machine to place an order, like Royal Farm. There is an over abundance of parking. They actually have staff to bag your food and offer to take it out to your car, unlike other shopping locations, except for MOM"s. read more

I was happy with the previous Giant at Ridgely Road. Though this store is bigger, it just isn't my favorite grocery store. The layout just kills it for me. For a larger store, the aisles are narrow and taller making it harder to navigate when the store is busy. It has all the basics with prepared foods, produce, bakery, meat and seafood counters. One bonus is that they have a single aisle dedicated to organic and natural food products. Overall, it's not my store of choice but it works in a pinch. read more

Terrible customer service! Our first encounter was with the deli department. There were three people working behind the counter and all three were helping one customer getting just one item. The clerk who helped us had no interest in her job or the customer. Then we get to the cashier. I have experienced not so good cashiers, but I think this one takes the prize for the worst. She was only using one hand while she was ringing customers up. She either had her hand up her shirt lifting it up showing the bare skin of her stomach or had it in her hair. When she did help customers bag their grocery she also did it with only one hand and the other hand in her hair. Disgusting! When she was done ringing us up we were still bagging our groceries, while she walks around to the bagging area to get a paper bag for the next customer. If you ask me the appropriate action would be to help the customer bag their groceries to clear up the bagging area for the next customer. We stood in line for 20 minutes with just 2 customers ahead of us. While the grocery store itself was okay, due to the terrible lack of decent customer service I would highly recommend going to any other store you can find in the area. read more

The Timonium/Cockeysville/Hunt Valley area is already saturated with grocery stores. Now Giant moves (old location was in the Ridgley Shopping Center) into the newly revived Staples shopping center in Timonium across from the MD State Fairgrounds looking to grab a piece of the marketshare from upscale grocer Wegmans. It also looks ready to compete with the mega Walmart down York Road. The grocery store is impressive. The managers are friendly. The place is well organized and clean in appearance. There is a fairly decent-sized organic section. The salad bar is organic too. Giant seems to be trying to test their scanner system. You bag as you shop and scan each item before you bag it. Theoretically this helps you move thru the checkout faster. But if you're stuck on the old-fashioned way of shopping you might forget to scan something or you might scan something twice by accident causing you to pay double for your product. It might take a while for this system to catch on and for shoppers to embrace it. All in all, this is a good store with alot going for it but Wegmans is still the reigning champ.
