i LOVE grauls cakes -- this review is strictly about the bakery!!! they make a consistently delicious cake and have various customization options -- you may not see them clearly offered, but just ask if they can do something and they very well might. for example, i often get custom birthday cakes with cream cheese frosting and layers of raspberry jam. yeah, it's delicious. and they do gorgeous floral decorations. that being said -- you need to be VERY SPECIFIC about what you want. pictures and details are helpful because we've had a few experiences where the decorators run wild with their imagination and we end up with something extravagantly unexpected. read more

Giant/Safeway - quality products at the Whole Foods prices. There is nothing special about this place at all except the ridiculous prices they charge on subpar quality produce, meat, dairy, etc. I can name dozens of popular products that are sold at least 20-40% above prices at local supermarkets within 5-mi radius. Take Michelle's granola for example that they proudly parade as a local product but selling it at 43% more than other stores such as WF or Wegmans. I dont mind paying more $$$ for quality food, but this business thinks a consumer is a sucker by overcharging people for mediocre products. Also, it seems as though with the prices they charge, they prey on the local affluent senior communities (last one is just my opinion based on observation). read more

I've been to most Graul's and like them but the one in Mays Chapel is one of worst places I've ever shopped. The management is not friendly they never have a cashier and act like children when you ask to pay with cash. They made me feel like I was a pain just because I like to pay with cash on many occasions now. They never say sorry never have nice small talk just grumpy people. Graul's, like much of the neighborhood has gone downhill. As a loyal shopper of 19 years, it's frustrating. 1. No sell by dates on all Bell and Evans chicken as of Saturday 1/16/22. 3. White onions have mold many layers deep. 2. Earlier this month ALL brands of turkey dogs had a sell by date from 2021. Instead of trying to enforce a mandate science has proven does nothing, why don't you get your store in order? By trying to enforce something that does nothing you're as guilty as the parties trying to control our ever diminishing freedom. Instead of walking to Graul's, I will be driving to PA to buy groceries. At least there the people aren't foolish enough to try to force others to do something that does nothing. read more

I have been a customer of Grauls for 25 years and would like to leave a higher rating. Lately, my orders from the deli have been poor. The box lunches have come with stale cookies, warm sodas and missing sides. The prices have gone up and the quality has gone way down! I ordered a chicken salad sandwich only to find out that the sandwich was made with chicken cold cuts when I got home! I guess I'll make myself a TV dinner because I hate chicken cold cuts! Always a go to spot for last minute items or specialty goods. It's a tad more expensive that other area grocery stores, but on par with MOM's. Many items are locally sourced. Deli counter is fantastic and the prepared to-go food/meals are ways worth a look. Clean and well lighted with plenty of parking out front, including HC spots. Still COVID19 compliant as are a majority of its customers. A spirits, beer, and wine shop is next door...also a tad more expensive. Drug store is also in the strip mall. read more

Buyer Beware! I ordered the party finger sandwich tray of chicken salad and shrimp salad for our family Easter celebration the week after Easter. I'm so glad I had other food to serve because I ended up having to put these out for appetizers and the kids! They were not only so tiny there was barely any filling in them, they were in these tiny soft rolls that absorbed all the moisture from the salads. And it looked like they cut a regular dinner roll in half. These were NOT the "assorted" rolls that are described or shown on their website. See pictures. I emailed the catering department and haven't even gotten a response. Sad. I passed up two other places to give them a shot and they failed miserably. I guess the name doesn't mean as much as it use to. I have always enjoyed their prepared foods but this experience was disappointing. The chicken salad absorbed the flavor of the shrimp and people thought it was tuna! Or at least I think that's why it tasted like tuna! We will never know. The pic is the chicken salad. Maybe they ran low as they made their way around the tray. But the inside layer seemed to have a tad more on them. The discarded bread is where people took apart two sandwiches to make one decent mini sandwich. If you can call them sandwiches. Again. Not the same rolls as described in the description on their website. When ordering make sure you are specifically getting what they promise. Hubby picked them up so he had no idea what was ordered. This is a review of the bakery: We had them do our wedding cake last year, and they did a nice job with it. One of their caterers walked us through a free cake tasting in the cafe. They had a decent number of cake and icing options, all of which were pretty good, and the prices were reasonable -- especially compared to the 'mainstream' wedding industry, where price gouging is the norm. They also offer a really nice perk: Rather than freezing a piece of cake for a later date, they make you a free 6-inch 'mini' cake on your first anniversary. We did have to call a few times to remind them about this, but we finally got our anniversary cake last night and it is beautiful and delicious (see attached photo). So, if you want to minimize fuss without sacrificing quality, Graul's is worth a look. read more

I've been a customer at Graul's Lutherville/Timonium for years. I go for the convenience and selections of specialty items. I've always been ok with the significantly higher prices charged compared to their competitors. But I've had it with their customer service. There are, of course, exceptions, but the general vibe of the place is downright unfriendly. Nary a "good morning", a "May I help you?" or a "thank you". The folks in the deli seem overwhelmed at times and slow to boot. Checkout, again with a few exceptions, is perfunctory. The worst are the Managers. They NEVER seem to engage with customers unless one chases them down. When one asks for a product, they give an aisle number, but rarely take you directly to the product. With so many competitors on the York Road corridor, one would expect superior service to go with their inflated prices. I'm done. read more

Been going to Graul's, Mays Chapel for a long time since it is so close to my house. They are definitely more expensive for the same item at other near-by places, worth it for the convenience, but my biggest issue with Graul's is being overcharged EVERY TIME I buy something. If something is on "sale" there (ie. regular price), you, as a customer, need to verify that it rang up correctly. Also, cashiers will regularly use codes they know rather than what the produce is marked at; I just paid 1.50$/pound more for apples because the cashier used the wrong number, which I didn't realize until I got home. Reading about wedding cakes was making me crazy. Most of the lousy things I'd been steeling myself to expect were basically eliminated by Graul's. We used the Mays Chapel store's bakery, and the folks in this bakery love a challenge - you bring them a picture, they'll see what they can do. They do tastings - and just use different types of (delicious!) pound cake for all their wedding cakes. And the people there are refreshingly down to earth, excited about helping you figure things out, and NOT trying to upsell you left, right, and center. The lady who did our tasting suggested things and drew a nifty picture of what it should all look like. Delivery to our venue went off without a hitch, and a friend from college - the friend who taught us all it isn't worth drinking cheap stuff who has the highest standards in decadent food I know - complimented us because he had never had a good wedding cake before. I ordered a very large cake from Graul's for Dec. 3rd for my company's 10 year anniversary. This cake was one of the most beautiful cakes I have ever seen for a corporate event, exactly how I wanted it. The cake was not only beautiful, but it was delicious, so well done. DANGERUS SITUATION. In these days of a pandemic, you would think that people at the deli would be wearing gloves before touching your food, not here. I asked for Chicken Salad and the deli clerk got it, but did not wear gloves, I was apprehensive, but then asked for sliced Turkey, figuring he would put gloves on, but nope, he actually went to the case to pick up the whole Turkey Breast with bare hands. When I got to the counter, he was cleaning and had a mop or broom in his hand, so he didn't even wash them. I stopped him, not knowing if he actually picked it up with his bare hands or not and asked him about gloves, muttered something and grimaced but since he was behind the counter and had a mask on, I could not understand what he was saying but by the scowel on his face, I knew it was not pleasant. He got up and I immediately asked him to repeat what he said, directly to me, again, I could not understand him and I said that I should not have to ask him to put on gloves and should not have to be the brunt ot his rude mouth. I then put the chicken salad back on the counter and told him never mind and then he went to put gloves on making a big deal that he was doing as I asked. I again repeated that this should be standard procedure and would he eat food that I had touched without washing my hands. He actually took off his filthy home made cloth mask (this store should provide employees with clean masks) who knows when it was last washed or sanitized, and started yelling at me. I answered back that I can't believe he took off his mask and he he told me that I was far enough away that I wouldn't catch anything from him. Never mind that the case was still open and his talking was spraying over everything and contaminating the whole place. I did go and tell the manager and he asked me if I still wanted my order because he would get it, I said no, because the whole place is contaminated, who knows what has been touched without gloves and what has been subject to droplets by an unmasked employee. This is not the first time I have observed unhygenic practices behind that counter, employees eating and drinking, removing masks to do so, they were just handling a mop or broom or washing dirty pots and pans and do not change their gloves before touching your deli meats or other foods. They really need som employee training. I have been a customer for over 12 years now and I am done with this store. I like to support local business, but this places needs one of those rescues on proper hygenic procedure. I will also say that the quality and consistency of their prepared foods varies greatly, the same recipe can be vastly different each time. It is obvious that they have employees that are just there to get a job done, no respect for quality or pride in their work, Very Sad. Grauls has the absolute best bakery! They can do anything specialty bakers do for half to a third of the price. Salad bar and deli options are good too! Would have given a full 5 stars, but for regular groceries, the selection is a little small and the prices a smidge higher than other stores. I needed a dozen glazed donuts with strawberry icing (no sprinkles) for a birthday today. I called Dunkin early this morning and ordered them to be picked up over my lunch. I went to pick them up and found that they didn't take my order they were going to give me what they had on the shelf and the donuts had sprinkles. Wal Mart, Weis and Giant told me they make donuts in the morning and couldn't help me. Wegman's said getting strawberry icing on a glazed donut was nearly impossible. Are you serious? Every store sells this type of donut. I called Graul's as a last resort. Dan answered the phone. He handled my order with no problem whatsoever. Not only will I have the donuts that I need/ordered I will have it in less time than any other store needed notice. I will never use Graul's as a last resort ever again! My wife (fiancée at the time) and I chose Graul's simply because they offered a great selection of wedding cake options for a great price. First you'll want to call and make an appointment to visit the bakery and taste the different cake flavors they have, an austere process. After you've decided on a flavor (we chose plain - tasted great), you'll want to choose your size. Our cake was a Tier 3 cake that could feed 130-160 guests. Let me just point something out to everyone - we had 153 guests at our wedding - basically a third to a half of the cake was left over by the end of the evening. Not everyone is going to eat the cake; some people don't even like cake to begin with (I know, they're weird). Also keep in mind there are no gluten free options available at this vendor, only delicious gluten filled cake. I bring this up because my wife is gluten free and subsequently, we ended up baking a small gluten free cake for her and the others who couldn't enjoy the bakery's cake. The cake was delivered on time and looked lovely. We ended up adding flowers day of at the venue. Overall, I highly recommend Grauls; you won't be disappointed. Cute, tiny little market off Padonia Road in Mays Chapel. Very similar to Eddie's. We stopped in today to get a cake for a work birthday party and also picked up some lunch. There's a deli with many choices for to-go food, as well as made-to-order sandwiches. I tried the Ruxton Club on a croissant (good) and the three potato salad (not good), and some mini brownies (awesome). I didn't try any but the crab cakes looked amazing. We couldn't decide on just one cake so we picked out a kahlua creme cake and a cheesecake. I didn't try the cheesecake but the kahlua creme was the perfect amount of chocolate cake, lots of kahlua, and creme. I would've rated higher but it's very small, pretty overpriced, and the deli was incredibly slow. A nice change from most of the regular grocery stores in the area, but can't really compete with Wegman's for quality, selection, price, and overall delicious-ness. read more
