Whenever I travel OTP I use Yelp to look for vegetarian and vegan options. I noticed right away that the yelp description said no meat in the veggies. It also just happened that we were visiting a business in the same shopping center. We had: biscuit (scrumptious), cornbread muffins (sweet yellow corn and delicious), limas, black eyed peas, cabbage, collards, and scalloped potatoes. Everything was 5 star for me except the potatoes. They were tasty but they really needed about 20 more minutes in the oven to be completely done. The seasoning and salt levels were perfect. People listen I hardly ever do reviews because running a business is not easy and I wish all owners the best, This was like something that really make you wonder how could this be. 1) called placed an order the young lady was very pleasant. 2) picked up the food no wait no problem. 3) Was told to check the food by the staff member I declined 4) home opened the plater and baby I was shocked first I thought they forgot the fish then I look some more and realized what they had given me smh. The Greens was just salt! The max and cheese looked like it was mixed with old and new mac & cheese. Look at the pic's. Great soul food in a cafeteria style lay out. Seating is fine: 2 four tops, 2 two tops, 1 6 top. Very casual ambiance with food We had ribs, Jerk chicken, and a vegetable plate including rice, cabbage, Lima's. All the plates came with a biscuit or corn bread. If you want good down home cooking, GiGi's is the place to go! I've never been here for lunch, but their breakfast is great and always a treat when I'm craving some Southern comfort foods. Their prices are very reasonable for the large amount of food you get, the restaurant is clean, and the staff is friendly and welcoming. The decor may be a little outdated, but that's not why you come to GiGi's and certainly doesn't stop this place from having plenty of regulars. My daughter wanted some fried chicken for dinner tonight. This will be our 3rd time visiting GiGi's. When we arrived we were among the first to order. However after a large amount of dinner goers arrived we were the last to leave. We were told that there was a new cook on board and some mistakes were made with the order. After about 30 minutes, very hungry and on the verge of asking for a refund dinner was ready. Fried chicken, Greens, macaroni and cheese, yams, and chocolate cake for desert........WAS WORTH THE WAIT! We don't usually eat like this but ......SO GOOD. To my delight, they sold whole fried wings, 3 for $4, so I placed my order. At first glance, I was very pleased; hot, just the right size, golden wings. Looks can be deceiving was my lesson for the day because they were soooo flavorless. Literally I don't think they even used plain 'ol salt. I am not a fan of this restaurant. The food is not fresh and the taste is bland. The restaurant moved from one location to the other and I've seen no improvements. I tried the breakfast and it tasted like the cooked a bunch of Instant grits eggs and bacon (if instant bacon is a thing). I'm willing to give the dinner a shot but I'm not going to get my hopes up. After reading a lot of the wonderful reviews I decided to go and try this place out for myself. I will say that all of the food is cooked extremely well and packed with a great amount of soul food flavor. I actually have tried this place twice. The first time I order the cubed steak which I say is probably the best meat side to order. It came with rice and I selected yams and mac. The yams were extremely sweet and soft, but still delicious. Just too sweet for me. The mac was good. No complaints on it, it's a typical mac. The cornbread now was amazing! It was the reason for my second return. Unfortunately the second time wasn't what I was expecting. I went on a Saturday afternoon. There was no cube steak so I settled for the baked chicken which was good as well but not like the steak. I also got rice, and selected mac and collards this time and cornbread. The cornbread was nothing like the first time. The first time it tasted homemade and fresh, but the second time I feel that was straight jiffy so you know I was upset lol. But the mac was good once again and the collards were kinda swimming in water but still tasty, I just had to drench it in hot sauce. Had an early dinner with my Sweetie this afternoon, and we had such a great time. It's a small place, everyone was very friendly and helpful. We had salsbury steak over rice with gravy, mac and cheese, greens, black eyed peas, cabbage and homemade cornbread. I thought long and hard about this, I been eating at Gigi's since they relocated to Covington and they was on point..,then a few months in to me eating there Everything from the macaroni and cheese to the potato salad had garlic in it I mean a heavy garlic I stop eating there a while then I decided to eat there again because I wanted some soul food my rib tip didn't have that rib tip taste my black eye peas had no taste...
